The Waterfront Cafe Bar in Aberdeenshire

Rotten service. Rude staff. If prisons had public cafe's you would get a better service in prison than you would here. Not worth wasting your time going here. This is not just my opinion . It's mine and many other opinions as you can see from other reviews.

Another visit to the Waterfront and once again FANTASTIC! Great for a coffee, scone or a fine PIECE!Good choice of food from all day breakfast to Scampi and chips. Delicious homemade soup or have soup and sandwich! There’s no skimping on the fillings for sandwiches or Baked Potatoes! Very reasonable prices too! Staff are very welcoming and nothing is too much bother! It’s always our Go To in Stoney! Well done Waterfront xx

We waited a while to be seated, staff too busy chatting. We were seated right next to the ladies toilet even tho there were plenty of other tables. Staff were not very friendly and waitress took three trips to serve two teas. The macaroni cheese was excellent and the cheese and onion omelette was cooked just right. On leaving said goodbye to the staff and we were totally ignored. I think this place has gone downhill since winning their award.

The welcome was bleh. The fry ups were poor and not good value for money. There are other cafes in Stonehaven where you can buy a nicer breakfast and sit in a nicer atmosphere. The best thing about this place is the view of the sea if you get a window seat. All else is underwhelming.

We stopped in Stonehaven for a lunch break on our coach trip up north and we went into this cafe we ordered the seniors fish and chips which was delicious and well presented and just the right size for us as we are not big eaters . The staff were very friendly the cafe is obviously well used as it was pretty full

Only lets me give 1 star as the lowest but I’d be giving zero if I could. If you like the idea of standing waiting while being looked at by the staff for ages awaiting a table, to then be spoken to like absolute rubbish then this is definitely the place to go. For all I know, it may be a nice place food wise but maybe extra training for the older members of staff is required as this is 2023 and the way we were spoken too was absolutely ridiculous. I doubt the staff/owners care but we will give this place a miss and I’d advise anyone thinking about going to serious reconsider………Unless you want to be belittled and treated like something on their shoe

We were looking forward to a nice coffee ,possibly a cake or scone.I decided on the special Victoria cake and husband decided on sausage egg and chips,two flat whites.The sausage egg and chips was good although he said the eggs were a few seconds away from being perfect.My sponge ,although tasting nice ,was dry ,it felt a bit stale,however,the coffee was awful. Flat white as advertised is supposed to be a double shot,strong with foaming milk.it should be coffee mixed with the milk to look dark and milky.Tge moment it was laid down we knew it was week and wishy washy.abd it didn't disappoint. On a good note the staff were nice and it was clean. It's just annoying when one plays nearly £6.00 for two coffee's and it's crap.

Absolutely loved this place the view was incredible looking out to sea you can sit inside or out The service was brilliant and the staff worked incredibly hard thank you The food was lovely and fresh we had the breakfasts and scrambled egg on toast - the service was excellent when requesting extra drinks when other family members joined us Looking forward to returning and highly recommend

No rude staff not dog frendly went along the road found the fly cup and the drifter excellant I suggest that the lady goes to classes how to deal with people or give up dealing with them as she has no idea how to take a walk to your rival how they mange tgere buisnesses I cant commet on the food or coffee as you need to be able to taste I could not get that far I have seen from other reveiws this jas been a issue I did not look before I write this one I write fair ones if they good I would say but on this occastipn I cant do this So avoid unless you want rude service

Awful…. Worst attitude and rudeness we have experienced in a cafe ever!!!!certain member of staff has a face like thunder and her attitude stinks… we had with us a family member on holiday from Canada and he couldn’t believe the rudeness….. def wouldn’t go back and wish we had of got up and left….. need to sort out wheelchair access and make it better and be a lot more helpful and accommodating!!!

Disgusting! Staff bad attitude very rude! Aggressive seagulls demolished our whole table! Children were traumatised, staff didn’t care just told me to pay full price, even though all our food and drink was destroyed by the seagulls. Tables inside but they said only tables of two they couldn’t put two together!! I will never go back due to staff not the seagulls!! Food looked pretty grim too.. only fit for seagulls!! The staff took delight in making me pay the £32! Not one member of staff asked if the we or the babies were ok, awful.

Normally, it's a great wee place, but do you honestly think throwing every breakfast item, including the tomato, into the deep frier is the way to go? On plus plus side (there are loads and loads) My wife loved her panini, and the staff are braw. Please make your all-day breakfast great!!!! Hungry and disappointed.

We entered this cafe today and didn’t see the ‘wait here to be seated’ sign and the young waitress was so rude when she eventually saw us. She told us four times a combination of “make sure you don’t do this next time” and “don’t ever let this happen again” in an extremely rude tone of voice. We told her there won’t be a next time and we won’t be eating there today either to which we got a sarcastic smirk and cheeky comment. We were told by a couple who had just left that we dodged a bullet by not eating there and went to the bowling club just along the road where the food was excellent. Won’t be using this cafe ever again and would recommend others to avoid it.

Stopped for a coffee on our walk, nice place. They have plenty of outside seating and very close to the beach! Nice to be able to sit outside with the dog

Staff very pleasant and helpful, clean place, service very good. The quality of the food good and at a decent price. Good disabled access with plenty of room throughout. Seemed very popular.

Soup and sandwiches were just what we needed, cheerfully sand promptly served. Picked up a box of strawberries and a raspberry scone at the till to takeaway, both excellent.

The staff here accomodated our party of 8 with ease, even though it was very busy. Had vegan options, fresh hot crispy chips, great service! Such friendly staff, really warm environment.

This is a nice roomy place with a large number of covers. Staff not as attentive as they could be. I had asked for a pot of tea with some hot water to top up with. “Fortunately” in a way the hot water never came....

A very average cafe. Food was decent, but really overpriced, making it poor value for money. Exeptionally rude staff makes this place a mediocre hospitality outlet. If you can't be bothered with customers and basic hospitality skills, you're in the wrong game. Not recommended.

Visiting Stonehaven and noticed this cafe - looked good from the outside, just wish we had read the reviews first! Entered the cafe and asked a dark haired older waitress if they were dog friendly, "no, you'll have to eat outside". No problem, I asked...

We stopped for drinks and a scone, taking an outside table. A pleasant young girl took our order and delivered our cola and my 'flat-white', together with a knife and serviette. The thin froth on the coffee disappeared straight away and I waited to show...

Lovely light lunch in the sunshine on the terrace. Good food and lovely friendly staff. Excellent COVID practices in place to keep everyone safe too.

Totally perfect lunch and ultra friendly staff. Food was perfect, plentiful and reasonable. Fantastic little seafront cafe. We will surely go back and try the Mince, Tatties, Peas & Skirlies next time.

Come here alot for the breakfast as its nearby. They always have space, a lot of tables removed and request that masks are worn by customers when they are not seated. The service is good and always pelnty of staff on duty. Food is prepared...

Was a lovely day, took a day trip to Stonehaven took a walk along the harbour, stopped here for a drink, the smoothies were lovely, I had a traybake, whilst my husband and daughter had chips, coping really well adapting to the new normal

Ate here with family on a windswept Saturday. The cafe was very busy but we soon were served with our drinks and ordered our meals. All the meals looked inviting and tasted lovely. The toilets were clean and tidy. There is a small children’s play...

stopped in by for a cuppa and a cake. nice selection of cakes did not eat off the menu on this occasion as we had booked lunch elsewhere, but have used in the past and always left fulfilled.priced correctly and nice atmosphere

It is a nice cafe that has a great location as it has a view of the sea. They serve typical british food, which is average, and there is not many vegan options. It is family friendly and is easy to find.

We visited with friends for The Fire Balls and ate at The Waterfront in the evening, the restaurant was full but the service was still amazing and the food delicious. Fish and chips, Macaroni Cheese and Stovies were all so good. I commend the staff...

Wonderful cafe/ restaurant in the centre of Stonehaven with sea view and outside seating. Breakfast visit with family . Very friendly and attentive staff, excellent service and very tasty all day breakfast. Great touch with the kids play area for our 4 and 6 year olds.

Great Breakfast place to stop by in on your way to Dunnotar Castle. The town itself is quite cute and the Cafe faces the waterfront on one side with seating outside as well. They had good breakfast options including Vegetarian ones.

The fish was greasy and the oil was not very nice. The chips were nice. The peas were cold. But we wouldn't go back there again

As we had the dog with us we had to eat on the outside terrace at the rear, although it does look out to the sea. We only had coffee and cake, but both were good.

Visited over the weekend before walking up to Dunnottar Castle with a friend. We walked in and were pointed to a table to sit at. The staff, two or three in particular, had a real attitude (not in a good way) and were frequently mimicking and mocking customers between themselves (but loud enough for others to hear) for asking questions or (like i did) asking for milk for my coffee! Customer service is something they don't seem to know how to do too well. My friend asked one waitress for a piece of shortbread, he was brought a scone by a different waitress who then argued with him when we pointed out that he'd actually asked for shortbread and not a scone! Having visited other coffee shops and cafe's in Stonehaven and had a much better experience than this, I would highly recommend AVOIDING this place and going elsewhere.

Wir waren hier zum Lunch mit drei Personen. Meine Frau und ich hatten Fish and Chips und unsere Teenietochter eine gebackene Kartoffel. Es hat uns allen gut geschmeckt. Es ist natürlich kein Sterne Essen, aber das war uns klar.

Visited Dunnottar Castle Thursday last week and went in to Stonehaven for lunch. Didn’t know where to go and it was suggested by a young man to go to the Waterfront Cafe. Unfortunately there was no room for our party of 4 adults and 3 children. Susan, the owner, sent us away and said she would call us back when a table was available. 15 minutes later I got a call that the table was ready. It was worth the wait - the food was well cooked, fresh and well presented. Great variety especially for our different needs. The cakes, home bakes and pancakes were to die for. Coffee was hot and flavoursome. Would recommend a visit - we’ll definitely go back!

Interior cafe seating was busy, but as it was a nice , warm and sunny day we opted to sit outside at the wooden tables. A few seagulls were in evidence hanging around hopefully - but on their best behaviour on our visit. Just had a light lunch of a tuna sarnie served with crisps, salad & coleslaw - and it was freshly made & tasty. Friend ordered a mushroom omelette & it was both visually appealing & apparently yummy. A very pleasant & chatty lady attended to the outside tables. Think it was all the more of an agreeable experience to eat out in the sunshine & fresh sea-air, and not only look out onto the sea-front, but hear the waves crashing on to the shore.

After touring Dunnottar Castle we drove in to Stonehaven for a late lunch. We chose the Waterfront Cafe simply because we walked by and we were not disappointed. We were seated inside although it was a very warm day because all the outdoor tables were full. The back door was open and we had a very nice view of the water from our table. The staff were very friendly and the food was tasty. After we ate we were able to leave the restaurant by the back door and take a walk on the beach.

Heard good things, prime location, very busy, but don't know why? Food was average at best, coffee was worse than nescafe original, just nothing to recommend it. Left it so long to review because young waitress was pretty clueless too, but don't want her identified in any way.

Called into the Waterfront Café for tea and a delicious blackberry scone. There is a lovely outdoor seating area with tables set back, but overlooking the sea. There was a warning sign to beware of seagulls stealing food as food would not be replaced, but luckily no seagulls bothered me. On a sunny Saturday morning, the café was very popular with the locals, although they were all sitting indoors, presumably to avoid the potential seagull menace! Reasonable prices. Friendly staff.

Went in with my partner for lunch to what seemed a relatively lively place to eat. The fact we could see the sea was part of the appeal. Unfortunately we left before we had a chance to eat as after sitting for twenty minutes, not being acknowledged, and seeing people come in after us have their orders not only taken but delivered to their tables made us decide that it was time to leave. Staff did not even acknowledge us in any shape or form. Very disappointing as this place potentially should be fantastic with being in such a prime location, but poor customer service from staff will let this place down time after time.

In Stonehaven there are officially no left luggage facilities. That's a pity for those who want to make a visit to Dunnottar Castle and this lovely seaside town. We found a nice cafe with seaviews that was willing to store our luggage for the afternoon.( it closes at five). Naturally we had our lunch there, which turned out to be very good. We had lentil soup and haddock and chips. All very well prepared and served by a most friendly staff.

Serving a group of 27 people at once when only two of them speak English is never an easy task but The Waterfront Cafe managed fine.

My wife and I like to drive to different places around Aberdeenshire and try out different Caffe's and restaurants, but we always return to the Waterfront in Stonehaven, where we always receive a warm friendly welcome from Susan and staff, fast service, and first class fresh cooked food. location is perfect, with the front entrance on the Main Street,and the rear entrance on the beach, with a lovely view, what more could you ask for

We called in here on way back to the car after walking around Stonehaven harbour. No tables were available and they indicated one would be available. The table was cleaned and available in a few minutes. Order swiftly taken and food was provided quickly.

Popped in for a bite of lunch today. Didnt want anything too big so ordered a coronation chicken toastie. Lovely freshly made dish served with a fresh salad, crisps and coleslaw. Quick service even though place was very busy. Nice view of the bay out of window too.

Had coffee here with family. We both ordered flat white coffees. The staff were efficient and friendly.

Came here for lunch and expected fresh fish and chips. This was not the case. Nice batter coated round a very dry fillet of fish. Disappointing. Breaded fish on the table looked much better. Chips were good. Suggestion: make your own tartare sauce as the sachet stuff Just isn't great!

Visited on a very busy Saturday lunch time. Managed to get the last table. Both had soup and sandwiches which were hot, fresh and well presented. High chairs available for kids, and ample space for prams etc. Pricing in line with what you would expect. Overall a very happy visit.

My wife and I pop out a couple of mornings each week for breakfast/brunch. Usually a filled roll with bacon or sausage and a fried egg. Black coffee and flat white. Our visit to the Waterfront was great, busy place excellent filled roll and coffee. Staff were great too. Their scones looked super. (my good lady has been more often than me meeting friends). Great views out to sea too. My number 2 favourite of all we have visited.

I went in for a quick brunch/lunch and I got great quality food and service. The staff were very friendly and the food was very tasty.

The Cafe Bar is close to the harbour and the beach at Stonehaven, which is a lovely little town on the Aberdeenshire coast. The staff are kind and it is easy to get to the Cafe Bar. The food is really good. Stonehaven is a good place to stay if you are touring the north east of Scotland. There is a lovely castle close to Stonehaven.

This is the perfect spot for a family lunch. Good selection of food and reasonable prices. We had 3 x paninis and 2 children's meals. The only negative is the ample childrens portions are served on small plates. Our 2 children were both put off by all the foods touching and the mac cheese nearly mixing with the beans. I am sure they arent the only children that feel like that.

Visited this morning on route to Aberdeen. Wish we hadn't bothered, food was absolutely shocking. 2 poor quality sausages 2 bacon 1 egg 1 tomato 1 hash Brown all deep fried and chucked on a plate - disgusting. Who deep fries a tomato? they clearly don't have a clue. Avoid at all costs.

Excellent food served by friendly staff in pleasant surrondings. Highly recommended. Closes late afternoon.

In over 20 years of drinking hot water as opposed to tea and coffee. This is only the second establishment that’s ever charged me for water Filled roll and tray bake average Sorry won’t be rushing back.

Had never been before but was most impressed. Other than types of coffee and things like a panini that you wouldn’t have seen in the past, the menu was similar to something you would have see years ago.

Our family group of 12 was out driving around Scotland when we stumbled on Stonehaven and popped into the Waterfront Cafe without warning. We had a slight wait while the staff could put together an area where we could all eat together, which we really appreciated. Susan, who I recall is the owner, greeted us all, explained dishes, accommodated gluten free family, and helped make our family trip to Scotland more memorable. Looked like a place where the locals go to eat. We all enjoyed it.

Went for lunch with my partner and 8 month old daughter. I don't understand the reviews saying they aren't baby friendly, this certainly wasn't the case during our visit. Plenty of room for numerous prams and a lovely spacious toy area. Baby change was available in the ladies toilet.

really dont know why people are saying babies and kids not welcome susan and her staff are always very welcoming theres a toddlers play area and plenty room for prams as you come in front door as you can line them up each side of front door and they wouldnt be in anyones way but if 4 or 5 people take their prams right into cafe then indead that would be a problem as then you would be blocking the aisles and thats health and safety matter, as for saying the food isnt up to much i disagree the food is lovely and homemade and ample the price is in keeping with other eating places very reasonable have visited here many times and will continue to do so.

A lovely cafe with a decent amount of seating and a small kids play area with books & toys more aimed at toddlers. Extends from Allardice Street through to the beach walkway.

We enjoyed a coffee sitting in the sea facing courtyard, Coffee was good and the service first rate - we will return.

Popped in for afternoon cuppie and sat outside to enjoy the sea view. Yummy strawberry tart and gluten free caramel slice with our tea. Quick service and pleasant staff. Will be back.

Popped in here when walking through town centre. Pretty busy. Sat outside with seaview. Daughter had a lovely homemade soup, wife had a superb homemade fruit scone and I had one of the best bacon and egg baps ever. Big pot of tea, daughter had a very lovely smoothie and we sat in the sunshine. Lovely experience. Service friendly and very efficient. Whats not to like here. Sensible prices too.

Stopped at Stonehaven on road to Aberdeen after wander called in at the waterfront cafe for lunch. Lovely fresh hot food we had scampi and fish cakes both were delicious. Staff were lovely, helpful and friendly. Options for indoor and outdoor dining with views of the sea

Ordered two Americano coffees, a cheese scone and a blueberry muffin. Coffees were good, muffin moist & tasty and the cheese scone was really good full of cheese.

Walked in when the cafe was full and luckily a table had just become available. Given the table with a warm welcome and the table was quickly cleaned. The owner apologised stating that we would have approximately 15 minute wait as a large party were about to be served. We were quickly given water and drinks while waiting. Food arrived - fish and chips, club sandwich quite quickly. Great food and reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

I regularly go to the Waterfront with friends but most times it's coffee, soft drinks and lovely homemade scones. However today my husband, myself and Aberdeen friends decided to have a meal. We opted for 1 battered haddock, 1 breaded haddock, 1 homemade lasagne and 1 ham salad. I'm told the fish and lasagne were superb, all freshly cooked and piping hot. The ham in my salad was excellent with no fat. Susan the owner and her staff always welcome you with a smile and today was no exception. Table service by the young girls was top notch and when we went to the counter to pay the young girl was brilliant. Top marks from all of us for this well run and welcoming establishment.

Etter en dag på tur var vi sultene og tørste. Etter litt søken fant vi dette stedet ned uteservering i hagen. Rask og effektiv betjening. Øl på flaske og dagens suppe ble vårt valg. Suppen kom raskt og var varm. Vi kunne velge mellom lyst og mørkt brød. Det var mye måker i bakgården som vi ble advart mot, men ingen tok maten vår. Et godt måltid til en rimelig penge. 20£ for to personer.

Not sure why this place has received bad reviews as I’ve always had good service and a warm welcome. I always find the food good and enjoy it. I find sometimes there’s too much for me but that’s not a bad thing. I don’t get why all the complaints from mothers and babies as there’s always little ones playing in the play area when I’m in. As far as I’m concerned the owner is always pleasant and has never been rude to customers. I’ve been in here quite a few times before and after the current owner and always had a pleasant visit.

Excellent service with friendly and helpful staff. They made our children feel very welcome with an indoor and outdoor play area for them. Delicious food & a chilled glass of wine was a bonus too. Will definitely do back.

My cousin and I went here on a busy Saturday afternoon when the folk festival was on and we were a bit rushed for time as we had a workshop to go to. The service was really quick considering how busy it was inside and the food was great. We had a cheese and onion toastie each and it came with salad, coleslaw and crisps.

I had tea and cake. Lovely venue with a good view of the sea. Great scones. Early grey tea on offer.
