To be fair the quality was good. Portion sizes somewhat pitiful however. Had sea bass. 2 very small pieces, 4 small potatoe halves & a miserly portion of veg. My wife's mixed grill was the smallest I've ever seen. Both meals were the size of a starter. Very poor value.

Another enjoyable visit to the Water Witch. This time we were picking up our son for his Easter break. Food was excellent and staff were very friendly. We were particularly impressed with the attention shown to our son’s food as he has a severe peanut allergy. Whilst not as severe my husband tries to limit his intake of gluten. Again the staff in the kitchen took care with his meal. Much appreciated and we recommend this pub to anyone visiting Lancaster.

We visited the pub on a Sunday evening to celebrate a birthday with our son who is studying at Lancaster University. The pub was not particularly busy but it still had a really pleasant atmosphere. Visited recently on one of their special burger nights (we were only aware of this as we’d checked the website before our visit). On arrival, our menu had no mention of the burger offers and the staff made no mention of it. I went to the bar to ask and was loosely pointed in the direction of some specials sheets that were in a pile on a random table. The two staff members, whilst pleasant enough weren’t very hospitable or overly eager to serve/advise. When the burgers arrived they were a little smaller than expected but were very tasty and we did all enjoy our food. It was by no means a terrible visit but a warmer and more helpful greeting from staff would have gone a long way.

I visited the Waterwitch tonight with my sister and brother in law and have had the most amazing meal. Two of us had the pie which was absolutely huge and totally delicious. We needed a gluten free meal and there was a great choice and the fish and chips was again a massive portion and tasty. I had the lamb shank which melted in the mouth. So dog friendly as well. We also enjoyed some really lovely red wine which was really good value for money. All in all a great night- highly recommended

Decided to try out their vegetarian menu so opted for the vegetarian hotpot as recommended by the counter staff on my visit early October 23. Based on a previous visit I had made when there was a chef’s special dish which was excellently priced at around £9 made this pathetic mere mortal of an offering pathetic value in respect obviously a rip off. The dish came in a tiny metal hotpot type dish with a lid and I was told by the counter staff that there was only the hotpot or lasagne as vegetarian options on the menu as there was no chef available at the time? I should have twigged as this was such a shockingly meagre vegetarian concoction of a few potatoes lentils and gravy and a half portion at that for £14.99 who do you think your kidding! Well I will not be visiting again and will strongly advise others likewise very dissatisfied customer going by some of the reviews I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks likewise …..AVOID!!!! Instead city centre offer much better value including beer prices look out for thwaites.

Sensational food in a brilliant location. Often times places in these perfect spots rest on their laurels and can safely produce poor food knowing they are guaranteed footfall. This is not the case here.Three of us sat outside on the canal side, one Italian was with us and we were looking to impress with traditional english fayre, the waterwitch delivered. The menu was tatty which was a worry and there is a bizarre main course ordering set up where by you can order a normal main course or a huge one for 2/3 more money, im not sure thats really necessary. The ploughman’s was as expected, decent portion, the fish and chips though. Christ. This is what fish and chips is meant to be. Massive fish, golden golden batter, so crisp, perfect fish. Astonishing. Seafood chowder. Yep. Burger. Tick. Beer, brilliant. Staff, superb. Visited alfresco with a two hour time slot easily booked on their booking platform via their website (more than can be said for some pubs attempts at a usable system) Considering the state of the customer numbers at the moment and the risky weather the menu was extensive and varied. I enjoyed a burger and several pints of Cross Bay beer which in my humble opinion is one of the better local breweries. It’s certainly nice to actually see it for sale locally in Lancaster. A barrel of Zenith would be nice The service was attentive and friendly. Every effort was made to keep tables dry and clean even after any rain showers. The pricing is as expected for the food and the pints I had were priced accordingly for the location and quality.

I had a table booked on a sunny Friday night and we knew it was only for 2 hours. We only had 15 minutes of our slot left and they allowed us to order more drinks. After the drinks arrived we were told you have 15 minutes to drink and leave. At this point there were 6 free tables around us so we didn’t think it was a problem if we spent a litte bit longer to drink our drinks (It’s not nice trying to down a pint of cider). However at exactly 17:30 when our slot was over, the waitress said we had to leave, not politely I must add. She even poured our drinks into takeaway cups and made us walk down the canal with our drinks. I know it’s difficult times and we only have a 2 hour slot but it’s not nice to be forced out of somewhere and count 8 empty tables on our way out. All we wanted was another 5 or 10 minutes to finish our drinks. We weren’t going to order anymore drinks and abuse the little bit of extra time we were given. She was a rude waitress and we won’t be going back.

First time back to The Waterwitch since lockdown eased. My friend booked a bench table on the canal tow path for 6 as a birthday treat. The weather was lovely, the atmosphere great and all the tables were busy. We ordered a selection of dishes including Mushroom risotto, Chicken salad, fish and chips and a couple of vegan choices. Drinks were ordered and paid for straight away, with no ability to create a running tab, so as everyone had to make card payments, it was tedious. The place was busy so we expected a wait though the serving staff made no mention of this at the time of ordering, which is typical if there is to be one. Overall we waited about half an hour. The chicken salad (£8.49) was disappointing with a trio of different lettuce in such huge pieces obviously meant to create bulk to the dish. Lettuce, chicken, 3 croutons and dressing, and that’s it!? The Mushroom Risotto was smaller than expected and could’ve done with a bit of side colour as it looked insipid though my pal enjoyed it. Apparently, the vegan dishes were lovely though the cheese savoury sandwich was supposed to be on brown bread but arrived on white! Even after the waitress had made an extra trip out to enquire which bread was her preference, seems totally pointless given her request was ignored! The couple of hours we were there were lovely with all the staff really working hard and trying their best to serve their tables proficiently, in what has to be a difficult time. It was fab being able to meet up with good friends in a safe setting. It only occurred to me once I was back at home that no track and trace contact details were taken for us individually which I’m pretty sure is a requirement (though they would’ve had the details of the person who booked)

On being seated the service was great from start to finish, the drinks order was taken immediately, with the drinks arriving promptly. We were given sufficient time to choose from the menu, I decided to order the same as I had ordered on our last visit. When the food arrived and it was as expected, very warm , well presented and adequate portions, it was great to then have the chance to order more drinks and stay for dessert. It was great to catch up General Manager James to put a name to face, what a pleasant and friendly guy, it was a nice end to the experience and to be able to thank James personally for the chance to return and enjoy what we had been used to.I appreciate that things are difficult due to our present circumstances with COVID19, what I will say The Waterwitch is very organised in relation to the guidelines and procedures. A great experience we will definitely be returning, we have to keep our local establishments going and it gives us a chance to have a nice relaxing time out Thanks again Gez :-)

We chose this waterside pub because it was a sunny day and there are plenty of outdoor tables along the canal. Due to covid-restrictions which encouraged pre-booking, many were already reserved however we did find a table and initially had drinks and then lunch. We shared halloumi fries as a starter, then I ordered a pizza, my Mum had fish and chips and my partner had a panini and chips. All the food was delicious, and my pizza was so big I had to take half home with me. There was frequent and friendly table service and a one-way system in operation to get to the toilets inside so it was very covid-safe. I would definitely go back to this pub again, but make an advance booking for an inside table now winter is drawing in

We went here for an early evening meal on Monday to find we were in time for the burger night. We normally miss these event nights at restaurants because we have two small children. It started at 4.30pm which was perfect! I had the Cajun chicken burger which was tender and not over spiced - partner had a Farmyard burger with extra onion rings and egg - they were both incredible!!! One of our little ones has 8 allergies so eating out can be tough and often disastrous but the staff were great in accomodating allergen requirements and no reactions after the meal which was a refreshing change! Our other little one had a kids pizza - we expected the usual 4" cheap frozen pizzas to arrive so we were impressed when a soft fresh pizza was served! Halloumi fries & calamari starters were just the right size.Staff were friendly and explained the whole covid routine/ service with us.Very impressed with the service, food and cleanliness of the restaurant. We've booked again for next week as it's a place we can trust! Thank you Waterwitch!

The four of us enjoyed a very nice lunch there today - a Tuesday - all chosen from the lunchtime menu where meals are set at £7.50 with about 8 choices. The service was very good; a perfect blend of friendliness and professionalism, which was great given how busy it was. I’d recommend pre-booking like we did to be sure of getting a table howeverThe meals were all delicious and delivered to our table piping hot.The only negative point was trying to find somewhere to park. Aldi and it’s large car park is across the road but you only get 90 minutes parking, after which the ANPR cameras will send you a Parking Charge Notice. The surrounding roads are festooned with double yellow lines and restricted residents’ parking. The point is however; Would we go back?An absolute, definite certainty!

Came here for a drink and food with my son. I had calimari and prawn cocktail which were both excellent and very good value. We sat outside next to the canal. Lovely location. Very good service from Brooke, Elly and Alex.

We stopped off here, on a sunny Wednesday afternoon, we didn't have a reservation, however the staff were welcoming and accommodating and explained their process for service and covid measures before showing us to a table. We just had drinks, it is all table service now, however order was taken quickly and drinks arrived promptly.Great place to sit and watch the world go by, people out walking, cycling the canal or the occasional boat.Prices reasonable and would definitely recommend and will return

We stopped here whilst cruising the Lancaster canal. We booked an outside table and found the drinks and food to be very good at a reasonable price. This pub is very well known and worth a visit.

Had an amazing afternoon in the sun on Monday with my partner. Amazing food, great and attentive staff. Without a doubt the place to be in Lancaster! Sadly, had to witness a trio on the next table having ridiculous complaints and abuse towards staff and we were so impressed with a young , dark hair lady handling it so professionally and politely! Shows what a great service you provide!

The canal side location was perfect, the staff were friendly and attentive but the food was poor, we opted for fish and chips and although the chips were good the fish was bland, waterery and mushy, I initially thought it wasn't cooked but it was hot throughout, it was obviously frozen cheap fish which wasn't reflected in the price, we should have gone to the fish and chip shop round the corner.

The food was okay and the staff attentive but the ambience of the bistro was so stale, lacked ambience and was just really quite strange. It felt like being in an empty conference room. Not for us and we won't be returning
