Very slow service (though friendly staff). Egg Benedict's nice enough, super food salad seemed to have a packaged combo of "grains" with too many sun-dried tomatoes thrown in and a horrid chilli jam, it was not great... Over flavoured rather than fresh. Children's pancakes biggest disappointment as were enough for a 2 year old at most, absolutely miniscule portions even for young children let alone older ones! The location is great though, shame about the food.

Holt is a bimbling town and ably served by cafes, each with their own identity. The Wandering Whelk is nicely tucked away by a car park. We opted for coffee and toasted tea cakes but the menu was full of breakfast/ brunch treats. There were cakes too. It was very clean, relaxing and speedy service. It is an ideal place to linger over coffee and "a little something" as Winnie the Pooh might say

We visited while staying locally (found this place after going to sister cafe Whelks Coppers in Sheringham) A late morning visit for coffee and cake, the cafe was busy but were warmly welcomed and seated. A counter full of delicious looking cakes and savouries was calling .. I chose a Nutella brownie, while my husband went for his favourite bread pudding. I requested to have my Brownie warm, which they gladly did. The rich gooey chocolate brownie was scrumptious, definitely enhanced by being warmed. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the gently spiced, soft and comforting bread pudding. They also offer plenty of brunch and lunch choices, with vegan and vegetarian options too. We will certainly visit again when in the area.

What a lively hidden little cafe! Spotted it on the way back to the car park and one of the few places open on a Sunday. Homemade sausage roll was delicious and best sausage meat i have tasted. Friendly efficient staff, lovely and bright surroundings, will definitely call back.

Have to say I was excited about having some seafood when I saw this place. Sadly none on offer. But funny worry about that.... The food is lush! I had a falafel salad bowl, it was so good. Often falafel can be made too dense and lacking in flavour. Not here, completely the opposite. And all the accompaniments that rent with it were great too. Also great service from all the staff we meet. Thx

Lovely brilliant cafe with super food! I am in the gallery next door for a week, and the people at the wandering whelk could not be more helpful or friendly 😁 it’s going to be very difficult to get through the rest of the week without having a bacon roll every day! And thank you for the all picnic stuff!

Great little find with good coffee and great service Stumbled across the cafe which is right next to the car park. It’s clean and modern, and staff were very welcoming. Cakes looked amazing and my coffee was good. I asked for a simple child’s sandwich (not on the menu) and they were very accommodating and returned after only a couple of minutes with a sandwich with raisins and cucumber sticks - lovely to see care given for a child’s meal. I tried a fruit scone which was nice and fresh. Would definitely recommend

After a walk down to Holt Station and back to do some geocaching Adventure Labs we stopped off here for lunch. We both ordered baguettes, I tried the white chocolate milkshake and my partner had a latte. Our food and drinks arrived swiftly and beautifully presented. The food was tasty for sure. We then shared a lovely slice of cookie dough cheesecake and more soft drinks including the refreshing Posh Pop from Babraham. All in all a great experience and they still accept that dying breed which is cash. Happy about that.

Excellent brunch of pancakes and eggy bread served in busy cafe. Service was friendly from two ladies who worked very efficiently together. The chef (invisible in the kitchen) was excellent in the meals of eggy bread and bacon and pancakes with fruit and fromage frais. Worth the money,

Have eaten here a few times recently when visiting Holt and it's our go-to cafe now, the poached eggs are done perfectly and the menu is unreal, premium all round. Would thoroughly recommend the veggie breakfast with halloumi and avocado, hash brown and homemade beans.. Everything here is top quality - thanks!

Queued for a coffee with my daughter and friend, waited a few mins behind another customer. Got to the till and was asked if we are taking away . We said no we would like to sit in . Very abruptly told to take a seat as it’s table service , in a tone that wasn’t particularly friendly or welcoming . So we take a seat and we waited at least 5 mins whilst staff walked in and out and served other customers at the till . We decided to leave as we felt ignored, unwelcome and generally wasn’t a good vibe . It’s a shame as I’m sure it’s a lovely cafe ( we have been once before for a coffee and it was nice ) but serious need for customer service training - please learn to smile and be more welcoming as we are now put off and wouldn’t return .

A busy half term shopping day in Holt but a space found in The Wandering Whelk. First impressions, clean and bright, and pleasant staff. Menus on the table and an assortment of light lunches and snacks on offer as well as some very appetising home baked cakes, and the regular offering of drinks. I had soup: leek and potato; home made, hot and very tasty. My wife made do with a tea cake which she maintained was the best tea cake she had eaten....she should know! Coffee delightfully hot and as I like it. All in all, an excellent small restaurant/ cafe with extra seating upstairs if required.

Called in Today for a quick snack & drink as we have been here several times in the past. Unfortunately it was not quite the same as it was a couple of years ago. One member of staff was not as customer friendly as she could have been. Food was less than average. Sorry but we won't be returning

This is the second visit to the pub- after the annual Land Rover rally for the Norfolk firefighters charity. The first time we visited was just for drinks, this time we had a meal- a roast dinner in my case. We hadn’t booked and were very pleased with the service, the lady behind the bar took our orders promptly and was very helpful with the children’s menu. Food was served quickly and was delicious, proper “pub grub” The atmosphere was very pleasant too, it was a dark, wet November night and upon entering you’re greeted by an open fire, cozy bar and cozy restaurant. Will definitely be returning- more than once a year!

Best iced coffee ever! A regular here, staff always helpful and polite. Place is always clean and tidy. Food is always freshly cooked. Dogs always welcomed with a bowl of fresh water and a butcher's sausage. Today after a stressful morning I needed a nice friendly place to go. No brainer! Megs and an iced coffee, all is right again with the world. Thanks Thomaz
