The Walrus in Lambeth

I have mixed feelings about this hostel so I will try to detail our experience without saying if it was positive or negative. There were two of us and we had reserved two beds for three nights. They send a reservation email where you can register online and not have to go through reception. To do this, you must provide photocopies of the passports of everyone present (two here). I would like to point out that I made the reservation, check in etc. Arrival at the hostel, good atmosphere, very loud music but it's a bar at the same time so normal. I had not received an email with access codes to the rooms etc. as expected. At the reception they only found my friend's reservation (which she had not booked anything personally because I had booked for two). So I have to pay for my place, only two nights because, unluckily, the last night the hostel was full. My bed was never made. There were iron bars in it when I went to bed, probably because they were doing work and not knowing that someone was going to come and sleep, they left them there. I slept on the mattress, without a pillowcase or a duvet cover, the entire stay. The hostel is located under train tracks so there is a lot of noise when they pass. The bathrooms are very clean and modern, the toilets are also clean. Lockers are available to store luggage with padlocks that you can bring or purchase. Be careful they are quite narrow, large suitcases may not fit. The beds are with curtains on all sides where they may be overlooked. The atmosphere at the bar is great, artists can come and do open stages, the cocktails are very good and there is a percentage discount at the bar when you are a resident of the hostel. Breakfast is included in the price and is ok. The staff is very kind and available, young and willing. The location is very nice, close to Big Ben in particular and the tag tunnel. I take away points for the inconvenience of my reservation which was not found and which I had to pay again, my personal bedding which was never made. However, we had a very good stay.

Pleasant rooms - comfortable beds, guests behave very quietly and calmly. Breakfasts were modest but good. The downside is that the bathroom is very cramped and, unfortunately, cold. Good prices in the bar - cheap and good coffee. Great location and good price for accommodation.

The location is perfect for visiting London ✨️ So tired from the day that I couldn't hear the noise of the metro at night 🚇😂 The only downside (for me) is the breakfast: no salty foods, always the same for 4 days, no microwave

A good enough hostel a few mins walk from the London Eye and Big Ben.

The rooms are good, despite the noise from the train station right next door. The staff are very friendly, the bathrooms on the second floor are good. The place is clean and quiet and the breakfast is great. The location is excellent, close to several subway lines, Westminster Bridge and the London Eye. And oh, the pub is really cool, with live music on some days of the week. I stayed for 5 days and I highly recommend it :)

Backpacker hostel, mixed rooms. Not even a sad xon coffee

They turned the upper floor of a bar into a hostel. People laughing and the sounds of music until late at night, and the sound of the train crashing over the bridge right next to it, were quite difficult for someone who is not a deep sleeper. 28 people were accommodated in the room; When you enter, a strong smell hits your nose. The beds were comfortable. Although there are not 28 places in the room, there are places to put your belongings in the locker. Even though it used Wifi6, the internet connection was very bad. Only toilets were on the same floor and showers were on the upper floor. A code is used to enter the hostel. Breakfast consisted of cereal, hot and cold drinks, fruit, bread and marmalade. The only reason I chose it was breakfast and being close to places to see.

It has good access from the main station, a bus stop is right next to it, and Big Ben is within walking distance. There are only stairs, so there is no privacy in the rooms, and there are almost no electrical outlets throughout the building, which is inconvenient, but there are multiple showers and toilets, so you rarely have to wait, and the rooms are fairly well-cleaned. The kitchen is fully equipped, and for breakfast you can enjoy bread, fruit, coffee, tea, juice, etc. at the bar on the first floor. Lights go off at 11pm, which is comfortable but inconvenient if you return home late at night. Ear plugs are provided as the train noise is quite loud. The price is quite reasonable, so I would like to use it again.

Very very noisy, be AWARE... It's advertised as "trains might be heard"... It is guaranteed except from midnight to around five AM... The staff is very friendly and super accommodating and helpful as well. The luggage 🧳 storage is very convenient and secure in our experience, and price is competitive Breakfast is very basic : cereal, milk, juice, toast, fruit (🍎 🍌), coffee... But for sure a great way to start your day while exploring the city! Restrooms were very decent and they did have hot water 🙏🏻 😊 Rooms have lockers but they don't have a lock, so being your own or be prepared to buy one.

lovely hostel! it was my first time staying in one and it may have spoiled me. i was in a 4 female dorm, both the room and bathroom/toilets were clean. great staff, great location and the included breakfast was a perk!

Only stay if you're on a tight budget. The rooms are very hot and stuffy. Extreme noise from the trains (even the earplugs failed to reduce it fully) made sleeping difficult. Breakfast is good.

The staff is great! The breakfast is good for a hostel! The toilets and shower rooms are clean. The negative things is firstly that my bed squeeked as hell and secondly the air conditioning/ventilation were non-existing. I spend one whole night sweeting in my bed not being able to sleep

The hostel is very conveniently situated. Less than 10 minutes walk from Waterloo, and an even shorter walk to Lambeth North tube station. Unfortunately, being literally on top of the UK's busiest train station, it's extremely noisy throughout the night. The hostel itself is well maintained, though, and the staff were helpful. Also, the staircase to reach the rooms is extremely steep, so steer clear if you have difficulty climbing stairs. Otherwise, I'd absolutely recommend!

Laid back bar, decent atmosphere, good selection of drinks.

Great location. Lovely service. Breakfast included. All for a great price. Rooms are big. Like 28 people. But the beds are fine. So if you don't mind that you're good. It's close to traffic, but also very close to the London Eye and Big Ben, which means transportation is super convenient here. :) If you're staying at the hostel, you get a discount on the drinks at the bar. The hostel feels safe, with multiple locks, only known to the people staying there. Not once did I feel scared or worried.

Great weekend in the city centre with the kids, you'll hear the rumble of the trains but it's nothing that earplugs wont fix. :)

WARNING This Hostel is not secure, thefts occur there. Thieves get in with fake IDs since there is no security control. I strongly advice against staying here for your security. The manager is not at all kind or understanding.

WARNING WARNING!!!!! THIS PLACE IS DANGEROUS. They let a thief into our room while everyone was sleeping at night. He stole all my belongings (passport, money, identity card, credit cards, etc.). This place didn't want to take any responsibility, nor did they want to refund me because I couldn't stay there any longer after this shocking experience. Please, people, be careful out there. I really can't recommend this place.

Lovely vintage style building with a cute bar on the ground floor and backpackers hostel above. Perfect for those wanting to visit the central tourist attractions by foot!

Lots of positives: location close to Big Ben, on a busy street with restaurants/bars, friendly staff, secure access to the hotel and rooms, clean bathrooms and kitchen, free breakfast in the morning. The only big flaw: the train passes all day and most of the night right next to it and makes a lot of noise. With earplugs I still slept well.

Unsecured hostel, my daughter had her entire bag stolen which was under the bed while she was sleeping. The staff was negligent since the thief entered with false papers and they didn't even look at the photo. I advise you to pay a little more and stay in a secure place where you can sleep peacefully.

A good hostel located next to the Waterloo station. Kind and friendly staff. Rooms were clean, beds too, and also a big + for charging sockets for every single bed (as far as I’ve seen). Definitely would recommend for solo travellers staying for one night, like me.

Came for a Xavier Collins concert - was super fun!

I had the worst experience in this hostel. In fact, I had my entire bag containing a phone and all my identity documents stolen while I was sleeping at night (around 5 a.m.). The manager I contacted was very rude to me. I was in a state of shock, traumatized by this theft which happened to me while I was alone, in a city I didn't know, and while I was sleeping and he didn't show any signs of concern at all. empathy or listening. Instead of showing compassion while I was going through this very difficult time, he told me that "thefts were very rare in the hostel" and suggested it was my responsibility while the bag was under the bed like most of the people who stayed in the room. Safety in this hostel is really not guaranteed. The person who robbed me was able to get in using fake IDs. And in fact, when I checked in, the person who greeted me didn't even look at the photo to check that it matched my face. I would still like to thank the two young girls who were at the bar in the evening and who were attentive and understood how traumatized I was by what had just happened to me. Kindness and empathy are qualities that not everyone has, but I am convinced that mean people (like the manager of this hostel) always end up reaping the rewards of their behavior. So I trust fate :) And please, Walrus, don't waste your time responding to this comment, I won't read your response. I put this message just to warn people who might think that your establishment is secure, when it is not at all, and that you are letting thieves in.

Centrally located hostel with the essentials, attached to Waterloo Station

I highly recommend staying at this hostel. I would like to give a special mention to Trent for being an amazing tour guide. He was enthusiastic, lovely and provided us with very interesting information. We will see you next time for sure :) xx

Very nice hostel, it meets all the "requirements" to be one. Excellent attention and very helpful. The only thing to highlight, (which it does have), is that the living room and the kitchen are together and are VERY small. Beyond that, the location is unbeatable.

Super stoked! Great first time experience in a hostel, free continental breakfast every morning and a free walking tour every couple of days. I would recommend this if it is your first day or two staying there as a charming aussie bloke shows you around the area and you get to learn a bit more about its history. Highly recommend! The only thing I would mention is that the rooms get quite hot and stuffy. It is also quite a loud area being near the trains but the good location is so worth it!

It was a really good place to stay. It is really close to Westminster Abbey and London Eye! Good service in general and the breakfast was ok. The rooms are clean and in general the place is clean enough. It might be a bit noisy as the train rails are closeby but nothing to worry if you don't care about the noise

Highly recommend with a great set of drinks and a good selection of things available. If I were to miss a train, I'll be coming here.

Excellent staff but in need of an update

My friend and I stayed there for a couple nights while in London. The rooms and bathrooms were clean, the bar was nice but a little pricey and the location was great. The staff were nice and very helpful. The first day we got there we went on a complimentary walking tour with Trent. It was a fantastic way to see the area nearby and also get some recommendations on where to eat and visit across London. Overall it was a great experience that I would recommend to others.

My experience is with a score of 2 or below. The code method to enter the bar and room is tedious. Yesterday at dawn, the credit cards of a girl he was hosting were stolen from the wallet, everyone was sleeping, and a thief dared to sniff other people's wallets. The method for entry and exit should be a contact less card Yesterday I bought food and I had leftovers and to my surprise today it wasn't in the refrigerator. Very good location but a lot of friendly people Today is my last night and the truth is that I already want to leave Breakfast very little of anything. Only the location saves it

Great value for money. The staff were great and let us in early to drop the bags off and we're really friendly and welcoming. As long as you come prepared you'll have a great stay as the rooms are clean and comfortable. They even supply ear plugs but we brought our own. Bar downstairs, very close to the train line. Breakfast is included.

Pub night trivia was not accomodating for international travellers - asked too many England specific questions. Real shame.

The most comfortable hotel in terms of prices that I could find, it is a little annoying that it is close to the train and the noise can be heard. It has a bar on the first floor, they serve only until 10 pm. Breakfast is simple, very close to Big Ben, a couple of blocks away.

It’s really at the foot of the rails so the noise is constant and unpleasant. Cleanliness is average. The lockers do not close with certain types of padlocks, there is nothing to put your belongings in the bathrooms, breakfast is only available from 8 a.m. There is a charge for leaving your belongings.

The best place for a hostel! Yes, there is some noise because of the Waterloo Train Station, but you can still sleep very well. The bathrooms and toilets are very clean and private. The breakfast is simple but is good.

All god but the bathroom upstairs is atrocious, not clean, no way to wash hands besides going to the shower. To me cleanliness is important and it could really use some

This now one of my favourite pubs in London to meet friends and family. Not only do they have great beers and a super friendly bar team but you can bring your own food which is a rarity anywhere yet alone central London! Not only that the Walrus sits on one of London's coolest yet under the radar streets and is 3 mins walk from Waterloo station. Do not judge by appearances....you've just found your new favourite pub in Waterloo!/. Highly recommended!

Tres bien place en bas d'une gare donc évidemment on entend les trains qui passent au dessus alors que je pensais aussi entendre Big Ben de plus le personnel est très sympa et l'avantage on rentre avec un code et non une carte ou une clé

Very clean, tidy, with friendly and helpful staff and great value. The building itself has an old historical charm as well.

La ubicación genial. Las habitaciones no están mal aunque la que me tocó para 4 era bastante pequeña y cuando coincidíamos todas había que hacer puzle para pasar. El colchón hundido. El desayuno 3 libras tipo buffet con lo básico. Lo que no me gustó fue parte del personal, te dicen que está abierto hasta las 23:00 pero a las 22:15 tocaron una especie de campana con fin de barra. Miércoles noche las chicas que trabajaban estaban ocupadas en sus cosas personales y con gusto les decían a la gente que está cerrado, incluso con burlas. Nos quedamos afuera un rato y vimos muchísima gente intentando entrar y ellas les decían que no y entre ellas se reían. Tampoco se puede usar la cocina y no hay una zona donde se pueda socializar. Una pena.

La ubicación inmejorable. Es una calle peatonal y de lunes a viernes ponen un mercado de comida de varios países, La calle de los gráfitis al lado. Muy cerca las paradas de casi todas las lineas de autobos, y el metro igual.. Casi detrás ell big ben y london eye. El personal, muy bien. El ambiente es bueno, tocan música en vivo en el bar. Lo único que no me gustó fue mi colchón, hundido en el medio y terminé con dolor de espalda. El desayuno cuesta 3 euros, tiene lo basico. Si tienes que guardar más tiempo el equipaje también cuesta 3 euros.

Precio calidad, aceptable tiene duchas y desayuno por 3 libras mas

Not posh by any means, but the accommodation does what it says on the tin.

Muy bien ubicado, barrio alternativo moderno y con futuro, ustedes sencillo, limpio y con estilo. Por poner una pega, el sonido de las habitaciones continuas (nos tocó la habitación Blue), aunque se insonorizara, escuchamos perfectamente los vecinos (menos mal que no eran ruidosos) es un lugar para llegar dejar las cosas y salir y solo volver a pegarte una ducha dormir y al día siguiente desayunar y volver a salir… El desayuno está bastante bien con zumo, cereales, tostadas y mermeladas con mantequilla y marmaid Estuvimos dos días y siete un día para otro, por lo menos no hubiesen cambiado las toallas, hubiese sido ideal.

Ubicación perfecta, tanto para el aeropuerto (el bus te deja a 5 mint de ahí) como para el centro, andando o en bus. La gente que curra ahí es muy agradable. Las camas cómodas aunque a los baños le hacen falta algún que otro arreglo.

Grande maison avec une belle atmosphère anglaise. Le personnel est très accueillant et souriant. On fait attention de réserver via le site pour avoir le petit déjeuner gratuit (pain céréales fruits et boissons) ! Petits bémol pour l'absence d'une véritable salle commune et pour l'impression de poussière dans le dortoir. En revanche les salles de bain sont impeccable ! On vous fournit des bouchons d'oreilles neufs, pas de refus car le train passe juste à côté... Autrement la rue est très sympa avec de nombreux cafés, supermarchés et restos abordables

Lovely interior, location, service and great beer wine, etc choices

Pretty basic but great location for South Bank. They give you foam earplugs as it's right next to the train tracks which was good. Beds and bedding are basic but clean. Bring your own padlock to use the lockers. Also there are no lifts, just stairs.

While they were lovely on the phone. They cancelled my booking because my original payment method didn’t go through. This was one day before. I thought it would be paid on arrival but was charged I guess the day before. They stated they sent two emails but I had received one with the room cancelled within approximately two hours of the first email. Just an unfortunate situation but left me without accommodation the day before.

Hostel muito bem localizado, limpo, barato, ótima estrutura. Café da manhã barato e bom. Banheiros limpos e bom chuveiro, sempre tem um disponível. Muito bom!

The Walrus Hostel offers a very basic and no-frills accommodation experience. I stayed at this hostel for three nights in September. Unfortunately, the bathrooms had issues with bugs, lockers were in disrepair, and the noise from passing trains was constant, except for a relatively quiet period from about 1:30 to 5 am. I’ve decided to give this hostel more than one star primarily because the staff was friendly and the location couldn’t be more convenient. However, overall, I regret my stay due to the hostel’s poor maintenance and would have preferred spending a bit more for better accommodations, even if they were further from central London.

Went there for a quick, lovely decorated, service quick and lots of seating inside and out.

Nous sommes restées 3 nuits, dans le grand dortoir commun. Les locaux sont propres, bien sécurisés. Pensez bien à prendre votre cadenas, ou sinon on peut en acheter à la réception. Idem pour les serviettes de toilette ou les boules quies. Le personnel est très disponible, très gentil et de bon conseil. Petit déjeuner copieux le matin, pas trop cher pour Londres. Le soir, le bar est très sympa, nous avons assisté à 2 concerts très sympas ! Attention, espèces non acceptées, donc il faut tout payer en carte au jour le jour, pas « d’ardoise » à la fin du séjour. À refaire sans hésiter :)

Visited here for a good few hours Saturday afternoon into evening. Great friendly pub with a really nice vibe. Very clean and tidy, great choice of things on tap all reasonably priced. Great choice of music too!

Necesitaba una bebida sensata o dos el sábado por la noche, a 100 yardas del 'Nox Hotel' Lower Marsh, disfruté del ambiente, buena música rock, no demasiado fuerte, las cervezas eran buenas, cerveza real y Guinness.

Tiene un ambiente estudiantil y desenfadado a unos precios razonables teniendo en cuenta la zona. A nosotros nos sirvió para relajarnos después de un día de pateó por la ciudad.

El hostal es un lugar de promedio bajo. Es barato y es lo que uno tiene que repetirse en la cabeza una y otra y otra vez mientras se está aquí. Tiene una muy buena ubicación y supongo que eso es lo más destacado de este lugar. No tienen ni un lugar como para guardar o cocinar alimentos lo que te obliga a comer siempre fuera. La verdad eso no lo esperaba de un hostal ya que es uno de los puntos principales a conciderar al momento de realizar la reservación.

Entramos a tomarnos unas pintas, el pub está muy cerca del London Eye. Ambiente joven y mobiliario vintage tirando a trastos viejos. Tienen también habitaciones. Justo enfrente hay una tienda Coop.

This is a bar with a hostel upstairs / on side. The staff were super friendly and walked me up. Shower had great water pressure and plentiful hot water. WiFi was average...better at night. 15% discount at the bar. Breakfast was good. Real butter! 😍Nice homey feel and authentic british experience. One centralized electricity extension...& they pick your bunk for you. The showers and bathrooms on all floors were full (1 on each floor).
