Recently visited this pub for Sunday lunch with my family after booking a table the day before over the phone and checking the prices of the roast being told the standard roast being £12.99 and a mixed meat being £15.99 , when we sat down after paying we realised that we had possibly paid too much and asked the bar maid how much the roast was ? We were then told the mixed meat roast was £18.99 !!! Whilst the roast was nice we didn’t think a extra £6 on top of the £12.99 was fair being it was only a little extra meat and at £18.99 that’s restaurant prices , with all due respect the walrus is definitely not a restaurant! I have left a comment on their fb page to give people a heads up on the prices and I’ve now been blocked !! How professional. Won’t be returning

Not been in here for 40 yrs or so. We had a good home cooked chicken roast and it won't be 40yrs before we come back. Staff very good and we were too early to comment on atmosphere. Thanks to all concerned.

The 2 ladies serving behind the bar on the 23rd February was very rude and they wasn't welcoming at all. I wouldnt ever go back again. They really need to go on a customer service course so they can actually treat customer with respect.

Rude staff and they have told the landlord lies to try and badmouth me but look at the rest of the reviews the 2 ladies that worked there are rude and let the pub down they was rude to all 18 of us considering we was the only people in there and spent around 500 pound never have I ever left a pub feeling bad from the way we was treated until now.

Very rude lady bar tender and no therapy dogs allowed, only dogs for the blind so we had to sit outside in the cold to have our drinks

Absolutely terrible place . Dead Quiet , 2 of the most miserable and rude bar staff you could imagine . Never at the bar always outside in the smoking area , no manners or respect for paying customers. Would not recommend. It’s a shame the bar staff let such a good pub down as the landlord seems nice and is trying to create a good atmosphere.

Went in on a quiet nite sound place

Went here to try the Sunday Roast as it was walking distance. Did not disappoint, generous portions filling a the plate and a choice of meats. Taste good too.

Was there for a party, bit small in the dining room side, could do with a good redecoration.

Friendly, clean public house with a decent bar crew.. visited on Karaoke evening and was pleasantly surprised by the standard of the singers and organiser. Would benefit from a refurbishment to help what appears to be a very decent establishment

I won’t recommend this place to anyone, neither will I visit this place again. I am an international student from Singapore and when the bartender saw my ID for verification, she just kept staring at me with a frown on her face the whole time she served me. When I asked for the receipt saying “could I please have the receipt?” she rudely replied, “you could say please, it won’t cost you anything.” If she didn’t have such a negative impression of me to begin with, maybe she would’ve heard my “please”. I’ve been to many places around Plymouth the past week and this has been my first encounter with such rude staff towards me. Please improve your services, it won’t cost you anything, it might just pay for the missing “U” in front of your pub. Replying to your update : The fact that you all do not respect your customers shows how much you care about your business and your service. When you get feedback, learn how to take it with graciousness and learn from it. Y’all won’t lose customers that way. (Ps turn your volume down. People want to sleep on weekdays)

Was looking forward to coming here for a roast but was waiting 1hour and 20minutes for just two roast that was also booked, the guy even came over at about an hour and said can I get your name and order again! And when our food finally arrived all we got was a sorry it’s busy! Even the, only other couple in the pub said they were really sorry as they felt they had our roast and had ordered after us, even ate it and was leaving when we’d only just got ours. The meat was absolutely spot on but for the rest we’ve had better for cheaper (£40) x2 roasts x1 beer and x1 j2o, Very disappointing as it also made us late picking up our daughter

When we visit Plymouth we always go walrus but this last time a lady,and I use the term loosely,tried to pick a fight and we were sat having a quiet drink enjoying the music.the doorman who had seen what had happened threatened to throw US out and took the side of the local person.Was not impressed with his useless attitude

This the second time I have been in this place and both times have felt unwelcomed and that the bar staff don't want to serve you because it means they have to actually do some work rather than eat something at the bar.

Great home cooked Sunday lunch, plenty of fresh veg and lovely gravy. The cauliflower cheese was good. Was very surprised to be entertained in the afternoon with some live music, nice way to end the weekend.

Went for first time in years. We were a large party. The food was absolutly lovely, hot and plentiful. My only complaint would be the lack of bar staff. One lady to serve drinks, take food orders, deliver food orders as well as look after all the take out firms that were coming and going. But despite that would certainly go again.

Came for mates birthday and had a brilliant night, one of the best of the year as a student. Sarah and Jackie were wonderful all night.

Nice bar, good entertainment but won't be going back because we paid £30 for 3 tickets for the entertainment and then they let anyone in free of charge, so feel a bit conned.

As bizarre as it's ever been. Great mix of people and good live music.

We went to a party here as our friends had hired a function room. They did their own catering so I did not experience any of the pub's food. It was very quiet when we visited. A few of our drink glasses weren't very clean but staff happily swapped them over for us with apologies. They have a small car park behind the pub. This has quite a steep incline and it might have been easier to park in the underground section of it as it is flat.

Came with 3 friends mid-afternoon for a Sunday roast. I cannot praise it enough. The meals were all fantastic. Big full plates with generous helpings of meat & veg. Staff very friendly too. You can also get the roast dinners delivered as there were a couple of delivery riders that came in while were there - I’m not surprised as the food was wonderful.

Took this pub by surprise on a Friday late afternoon 60 men ,One young lady behind the bar to serve us ,But what a fantastic job she done until reinforcement arrived .

Turned up for a last drink after a Navy reunion. The last drink turned out to be 4 of them. Beer was good, service excellent and the booked singer, she was superb. Nice to see there are still some great pubs still going in Plymouth

Went there the other Sunday after a meal for some live music .. What a lovely atmosphere.. there was a real eclectic mix of people singing and dancing - danced and sang along to the music .. definitely worth a visit

A pub like no other, and what a dance floor!

Myself and my husband were staying in a hotel very close to The Walrus and we walked past it a few times jokingly saying that it looked like a social club. We decided to pop in on our way back to the hotel last night. Well, what can I say. We walked in and it really was like a social club stuck in the 80's. Nevertheless, we had a drink and took a seat. The bar staff, weren't the friendliest either. There was a group of 3 lads, who were obviously regulars and thought they owned the place, but 1 in particular was very aggressive and clearly out to cause trouble. He came over to us and shook my hand and my husbands and said something that we couldn't make out. He then pulled me out of my seat forcefully to try and dance with him. I managed to use my strength to release my arms from him. Meanwhile, my husband told him a few home truths but he was outnumbered and the lads looked prepared for a fight. We name our escape whilst the gobby one was in the toilet. This seemed to be a regular occurance and we would NEVER step foot in a hell hole like that again.

The lady upon entry was very rude! I will most certainly be taking my family of 6 to dine else where during our stay! Definitely not a family place to be!

top proper boozer. came with my two young lads we all had a great time, friendly staff and nice drinks in the sun. Also came back with the mrs for live music on a Sunday night, busy lively venue with a great atmosphere.

If you haven't got a covid passport don't bother. Didnt ask if I was I'll or have a reason I don't have a passport, very rude. Just rejected me.

We visited The Walrus on Friday night and had a brilliant time. Darren Maskell was a great entertainer. We enjoyed his singing and his hilarious comments. The music afterwards was superb as I love Northern Soul. All of the bar staff were nice and friendly, the door staff friendly and polite. Had a good chat with other drinkers enjoying themselves. I only wish you had another draft ale as the Tribute was off. We had a top night. Thank you.

Love the vibe. The night I was there I enjoyed the music played and because of that I will be back.

Wife received a recommend for Sunday roast and after trying it, have been back a couple of times. This is not fine dining but good home cooked food with lots of meat and big variety of vegetables. There is always a choice of at least 4 meats including some weeks an excellent belly pork. Whilst eating here the take away roasts are flying out the door so other customers must also rate the roast.

local pub for local people not very welcoming

As it was 100 yards from out hotel, this place was located just right, and four of us on a football away day, it was okay. The Saturday lunchtime I think caught them out, for there was just one barmaid serving and around 50 lads in there. It was a little pricey for what it was, but it was clean enough and the staff were friendly and accommodating.

I went to the Walrus last night to meet a few friends and the atmosphere was amazing, the staff where lovely and the music was great. The staff go out of their way to make sure you enjoy yourself... when they didn’t have the drink I wanted they made me an amazing cocktail that tasted just like what I wanted anyway 🥰🥰 short story short I’d happily come here again

Not a patch on how it used to be when I lived in Plymouth. It was my old local 30 odd years ago. Bawdy interior and bouncers on the door. Got a pint though and was served quite quickly despite it being a very busy Bank Holiday Sunday. I much preferred sipping a pint in the back bar with the locals. Sadly those days are long gone.

Awful over aggressive bouncer on the door to the pub.He was rude to everyone and roughly dragged me off the premises when I sat down to talk to a friend I knew.Instead of talking to me politely and asking me nicely to go back and sit down before I knew what was going on he had grabbed me off my chair and escorting me out of pub like a rag doll until my friend intervened and asked what company he worked for. Even the other bouncer admitted he should never have put his hands on me.Never going there again.
