Looked at the Great Reviews many times and made my way there, however they are always seemed to be closed and NEVER answer their phone. Only wished I could try their food but looks like a part time or closed business that opens on seldom occasions. Perhaps the reviews are Not Real..?

Maravillosa comida para llevar! Los champiñones estaban llenos de sabor. Rissotto sabroso y lubina delicada.

Bellamente cocinado rosa a mi pedido. Gran restaurante sin una decoración elegante pero buena comida honesta bien preparada a un precio razonable.

For many years we’ve been meaning to eat at The Walpole, tantalised by its menu whenever we walk passed. It is only open at weekends and you have to book in advance. Last night we finally got our act together and reserved a table for three with our daughter. We were in for a very special night, starting with the Raspberry Martini and homebaked bread and ending with a delicious pudding of Siena cakes and chocolate truffles. All the courses are enormous and delicious. The sea bream with Parmesan risotto was truly tasty as was the home cooked Hollandaise sauce that accompanied the fresh Norfolk asparagus. The service was efficient, while being delivered with a warmth that left you believing you could just be in the chef’s front room.

This amazing restaurant opens only on Fridays and Saturdays. The food is very fresh, taste delicate yet robust, it has depth. Started with their home made bread - amazing crust - and with high quality butter which is packed with flavor. I had their signature sea bass.... I was impressed that the fish was just cooked to perfection... a fine balance to cook fish, and it was very fresh. And the mushroom risotto was amazing. First class execution of flavors. For dessert, I had their signature chocolate pot caramel and sea salt ice cream.... again delicious. The chocolate pot was rich and dense yet smooth, complemented by the refreshing sea salt ice cream. Even their house red is very good. The portions are very generous too. And the host, Wendy is very friendly and one who knows her food! Her customers have stayed with her for years... can see many loyal regulars. An amazing restaurant, will definitely go back.

I revisited the Walpole after a gap of about 18 months. This time it was to celebrate my birthday. Our party of 9 were given a warm welcome by the owner. Being a few days after the new year break it was not busiest of nights. The paper table cloth was a great surface for the kids in the group to show off their artistic bent between courses. The restaurant remains one of Ealings best restaurants.

visited this restaurant recently with friends, located just outside the main part of Ealing it was easy to park the car, we received a very friendly welcome from the owners and staff and were soon tucking into starters and a nice selection from the menu. It was good to be able to see the owner himself preparing the food at the back of the resto and the portions were simply enormous, this venue is renowned for their lamb although I didn't have it, opting for duck, those that did said how good it was. A very friendly atmosphere and the staff were very attentive, doggy bags were offered at the end of the meal, all in all a charming experience and with reasonable prices ! Well done, we shall be back.

Yet again the Walpole goes above and beyond. The flavours on my tomatoe starter exploded around my mouth. The Wagyu with Boston beens was mouth watering, and very satisfying. Not sure where I put it but the homemade ice cream selection was just the best. For once we splashed out on the wine, and went beyond the house. Thanks for pointing us in the right direction here. Keep up the great work, stimulating, sumptuous and I'm still fasting 3 days later.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

This is without doubt a peculiar place to eat, not least because it is currently open only on Friday and Saturday evenings. More research is necessary to establish the history of the restaurant. It's part of a Victorian terrace in South Ealing and the decor inside and out may date from the distant past. Its name presumably commemorates Spencer Walpole MP (1806-1898), whose name is remembered throughout Ealing, notably in Walpole Park and the former Walpole Picture Theatre. (The MP is also buried in South Ealing cemetery). The current management has been in situ since 2001. Until fairly recently the restaurant was open the rest of the week for breakfast and lunch, but it appears that a lack of passing trade put an end to this. The interior is distinctly old school with paint peeling off the chairs and brown wrapping paper used as tablecloths. The ambience, however, is appealing. The staff is friendly and we got chatting to people at the next table who have been coming here for years. At the moment two courses cost £22.95, three £27.95. We began with an extraordinary raspberry Martini (£7.95) consisting of sorbet drowned in vodka. The menu changes every week and you may get everything from curry to Scottish salmon. But there appears to be a British bias. The portions are huge and defeated us. My recommendation would be to skip the starter. Cheapest wine is £24.50 and we thought it unlikely that anyone would buy the most expensive, £90+, which would be an odd accompaniment for the plain food. Cooking and presentation are not haute cuisine. It's basic, palatable but not sophisticated. But there are not many restaurants of this type left in London and it's unclear how long this one will survive. On a Friday night there were plenty of empty tables. The Walpole will appeal to the adventurous, particularly someone trying to impress an equally open-minded first date. But it will never receive a Michelin star.

I'd been meaning to visit this restaurant for a long time, and having finally been, I cannot say how excellent it was. Reserving a table (an absolute must) over the phone was efficient and friendly, and I liked that they called me on the day to reconfirm. Walking in for dinner on a Friday night, despite never having set foot in there before, we were greeted like old friends, had the menu and their signature cocktail (raspberry martini) explained, given water and bread and butter and shared a laugh with the waitress (owner?). My friend and I variously had: -Sausage roll starter -Both had the lamb shoulder (which came with excellent mash, real gravy and glazed carrots) -Bakewell tart (when was the last time you saw that on a menu?!) Everything we ate and drank over the course of the meal was faultless and the portions absolutely enormous! No wonder other tables were taking home doggy bags. I was full to bursting after a main and dessert and I've a serious appetite. I saw a couple of plates going to other tables of possibly the largest steaks and portions of chips I've ever laid eyes on. The wine list looked varied and reasonably priced, although we stuck with cocktails and water. In short, a brilliant place, almost a dying breed of restaurant - old fashioned in the best possible way, somewhere other places would do well to take a leaf out of their book. Keep up the great work, Walpole team - Looking forward to visiting again soon.

The service was friendly and attentive. Aside from that, there's no way this deserves the high ratings it has received on here. The menu is limited and unusual. The portions are massive. The quality of the food is poor. The feel of the restaurant is like a low budget hotel or a standard cafe.Compared to the other restaurants around the area, this is easily one of the worst. It's actually pretty expensive for what it is as well.We are currently trying out all of the restaurants in Ealing, and so far out of the 10 or so we've visited, this is the only one we wouldn't go back to.We read on the Walpole website that this was Marco Pierre White's favourite restaurant. This place pulls off the near impossible in chain driven London. It's a haven of what you dream of but has disappeared - a genuine bistro. Close your ears and you could be in France circa 30 years ago. So unpretentious and focused only on good food, lots off it and a great atmosphere. Reassuringly simple but classic decor. We dined under a large original Baci poster. Some great appero' mixing going on from a low level zinc bar. Duck, ceps and papardelle was superb and the steak frites I saw at the next table will have me coming back pronto. Two courses , coffees and drinks £120 for three.

Great welcome from the patron who made us welcome straight away. Husband was the chef who did a great job as the restaurant was pretty full by 8. Safer to book as only open in its restaurant guise Friday and Saturday. Generous amounts of delicious bread with proper butter should have given us a clue to the generosity of portions. All the starters were great and obviously perfected by the chef. I loved my papardelle( main course size) and the crab bisque and the interesting egg mayonnaise with anchovy - which worked so well. I'll have this retro item next time.Main courses were delicious also. The pheasant dish was 2 confit legs and pan fried breasts with all the trimmings while my lamb was a so tender and tasty rolled mini joint that was still feeding me the next day( they ask you about doggy bags).Only 2 of the 6 of us managed dessert which was a delicious chocolate pot with salted caramel ice cream - decadent. We were staying with family at Ealing last week. After a hectic day in London we just couldn't face a trip back in to London to eat in the evening - SO we decided to eat locally and found Walpole's on Trip Advisor. If you are impressed with glossy frontages, posh interiors and expensive furnishings, then don't go. If you are impressed by SUBLIME food, quirky, friendly and attentive service then just VISIT AND ENJOY!3/4 of us had the Romney Marsh lamb - I can only say that if I were to be shot at dawn then this could well be my 'last meal' of choice. Cooked for 8 hours, it was just stunning. Starter was a shredded pork loaf with home made picallili - wow! Lashings of home cooked bread preceded this yumminess, and it's really tough to find anything negative to say about the whole eating experience. TIP - go when you are hungry - the portion size is generous and you'll struggle with 3 courses unless you are properly empty.ps the steaks are the size of aircraft carriers, so if you're a meat lover this will really float your boat. We will return as soon as we are next back in London. 10/10

I was quite surprised but a couple next to us said it is great for having after a hangover the next day! We took home the chicken liver for my friends husband and they even put in a bit more! The service was good but there were two waitresses who seemed to be just learning and seemed to be a little uncertain and not as welcoming as they should be. Was a little taken aback going to a "by day Cafe" for dinner but was soon at ease when seated in the humblest surroundings and reading the enticing menu. WOW is all i can say the menu was carefully put together and that of a top end London restaurant without the chandeliers lush surroundings and countless often clueless staff, Here was the warmest down to earth welcome from non other than the chefs wife Wendy who makes you feel relaxed and explains the menu to precision and with heart. The food is carefully thought out and one of the best meals i have ever experienced. Starters the goats cheese soufflé with cherries was a match made in heaven who would have thought! Mains well all delicious but must of course discuss the steaks which in my husband words was "handsome" .. having been to NY Chicago and Florida have never seen him as excited about a steak since America where they do it very well it was huge cooked o perfection and juicy. We didn't get to desserts as food portions are generous but we did manage to try the Espresso Martini and few bottles of wine. The food was delicious and would rival any top chef, Wendy was fabulous and there is a sense of family pride that goes into the menu restaurant and food that is priceless. No frills but every penny goes into the menu from source to taste. Will go back and highly recommend a true find and one id like to keep a secret for a little longer. Can not wait to go back. For those looking for exquisite food but do not want to travel to london this is it right on your doorstep here in Ealing. One thing is for sure it won't be a hidden gem for long.

Despite the "Opening Times" clearly stating 7am to 10pm on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, we have gone there on a number of occasions from breakfast on these days and it has been closed? On Saturday 26th July we walked down from North Ealing for breakfast and despite the sign being outside on the pavement, the closed sign was on on the door yet again. I think they will lose customers because of this.

A fantastic evening with excellent wine and extremely flavoursome food. The lamb, as always, is to die for! My husband, who always enjoys a good soup, was blown over by the cauliflower soup as a starter. The rhubarb crumble and homemade icecream finished off the meal beautifully. Excellent service and a friendly welcome. See you soon, louis, Wendy and Co, we'll be back soon !

We love this place and it is so local for us - thank god for the Walpole!!

Hadn't visited in ages, and wanted somewhere to take chef friends, so the Walpole it was. Paniced after a couple of poor reviews, had it gone down hill......? I had native breed Romney Marsh lamb, sourced direct, homemade chocolate pot and awesome ice-cream. My chef mates ended up begging for recipes, and I know why, it was fantastic, and affordable. The wine was great, the cocktails top draw. Why did I panic, no idea, it's well worth a 3 hour round trip for me, I'll be back, and I know my mates will be to. Keep up the great work.

My wife took me here for a birthday celebration meal. We live locally and had wanted to try it for some time. It didn't fail to live up to our expectations. The food is very much the standard which one would expect from a top notch gastro-pub but set in a charming local setting with excellent personal service. I had the lamb with mashed potatoes and carrots which was outstanding - really succulent and tender meat with perfectly cooked delectable carrots. The portions were very large (said by someone with a big appetite) which I consider a good thing in a restaurant serving "good honest comfort food". There's a good selection of wines and cocktails as well. Potentially a nice sized venue for a small party too. We'll definitely be back.

I enjoyed a meal at the Walpole two years ago when my daughter moved to London. Back in January she had again booked a table there to celebrate her late father's birthday and we were eagerly looking forward to the evening. The table had been booked on the Thursday for the Saturday of the same week. The restaurant had said they would phone to confirm but unfortunately my daughter was separated from her phone and by the time she called them, about 6pm, they had cancelled the table. Clearly this was a busy night as there was no other table left!I wrote to them questioning the severity of their system but unfortunately they did not have the courtesy to reply. Very disappointing.

What looks like a simple cafe outside, is a delight to the tastebuds inside. There are so many reasons I could rave about The Walpole - the food from Louis is divine, the service and welcome from Wendy and her team is like coming home for Xmas every time you visit. The wine list is great and very good value for money, and the Raspberry Martini is a firm favorite for an aperitif as well as for dessert! I wish I could discourage people from going so we wouldnt have to share this gem of a venue.....but it is rude not to share. Note: You really have to book!

Summary:I would honestly not recommend this place to anyone. You can get a much nicer meal for less in pretty much any place in Ealing.Walpole serves you large portions of food which isn't very nice and is very dated (think 70s/early 80s). They seem to almost think serving too much to people is a selling point. The people behind us (mid 60s) left with FIVE burger boxes (yes polystyrene burger boxes) with food in each. Assuming your aim is to have a good evening, with great atmosphere and excellent food and wine then I suggest you stay well clear of here.We gave it a try because we had heard some good reviews but this place simply rates itself as something it is not and I guess still living on a review from 3 years ago...don't know if the food has changed or what has happened but its very expensive for what it is. Review:My wife and I visited on Saturday night expecting a great meal [first time we left our baby with Granny for the evening]. The place has a nice feel as you walk in - kind of French bistro if you like but sadly it went quickly downhill from there.Run through of the meal:1) On the menu was a raspberry martini which sounded nice as a pre-dinner drink - when it arrived this appeared to be a blob of sorbet in a martini glass filled up with vodka. Definitely not shaken or stirred! Tasted awful even when mixing the sorbet a little...I didn't drink it...that's how bad it was :)2) Starters - My wife had Terrine while I had musselsThe mussels were in a pleasant sauce though the mussels themselves were small and unimpressive...it was ok but nothing special. My wife's terrine on a ‘jus’. She ate a bit but didn’t enjoy it at all – I didn’t try it as I thought it looked awful alongside my wife’s comments [and she is usually positive about everything]3) Mains - Lamb and Sea BreamMassive portion of slow cooked lamb/mash/carrotsThe lamb was okish, kinda felt like something you would have for a Sunday lunch...but this made it clear beyond all doubt that this is a basic food type place so if you go that is how you should order; albeit the lamb wasn’t greatSea Bream was served with a Risotto...the risotto came with big chunks of parmesan on top of it....the dish was average at best…fish was a fillet and risotto didn’t have great flavour albeit this was ironically probably the best dish - however, you would definitely get better at a chain such as Carluccios.4) I have a sweet tooth but neither of us felt great after eating the food and didn’t want any more from this restaurant...I also woke up the next morning not feeling great either5) The wine was a joke. The prices were high and the quality was very poor. I discounted everything from the board on the basis I knew the cheap bottles of very average wine being sold for £30-£45 and ended up plumping for a half bottle of 2012 valpolicella at £17.50 which was very disappointing and we didn’t even manage to drink it all!6) The service was poori) Pleasant on arrival ii) When asking the waiter for any recommendations on wine...he didn't like white and when asked about one of 6 reds on the board he hadn't tried it.iii) when asking for the bill the waiter was observant enough to notice that the martini had barely been touched and asked about it. I explained it wasn't good and he half apologised...at which point I assume he will take it off the bill.iv) The bill arrived with martini included. I mention to the waiter the martini and he takes the bill. Next thing we know, the owner/manager dashes over to the table asking 'what's wrong with it - is it the sorbet or not enough vodka'. We were both a little taken aback though after a brief exchange it is taken off the bill. At the time we said that had taken the place from a 2 star rating to a 1 star rating.7) The bill for two bad courses of food and half a bottle of cheap wine was £70 - way too much for poor food and poor wineI don't like having to write a bad review but want to ensure if you are thinking of going you have the full story.

Exquisite crab bisque, and my companions loved their twice baked camembert. Ham pie also liked and very filling, but a fraction saltier than some would like. Sea bass also excellent although not quite so filling, comes with imaginative barolo risotto; maybe a goof idea to order another accompanying vegetable. Service rustique, welcoming and accommodating. What a pleasure to visit a restaurant with down to earth service and decor, no obsession with portion control and where you know Brake Bros vans do not visit. I thank the chef's going to such great efforts to find the best ingredients. Good value.House wine a little pedestrian and prices rise fairly sharply thereafter.

Having read all the positive reviews, not to mention Marco Pierre White's comment, we were really looking forward to eating here. Unfortunately, although the service was good, the food was well below average and felt very dated, especially the starters. Although we ordered different dishes they both were essentially mounds of shredded vegetables, not exciting, tasty or appetising. I had the fish and risotto for my main which was incredibly bland - I had to add salt which I NEVER normally do. J's main of cassoulet was dry enough to render it almost inedible. The puddings were pleasant enough although my portion was tiny and J’s cheese was a veritable slab. The price was cheap but as the food was so poor I still feel hard done by. Will not be back and would not recommend.

In a world of cafe and gastropubs, this is a classic greasy spoon. Brown paper adorns the table and crayons are provided for kids. Breakfasts are massive and come in two sizes one at £5.50 and the other at £6.75. Bacon, sausage and black pudding taste of quality and you will leave with a happy tummy

We dined here last night having been recommended it by neighbours. It is a very friendly place with a set menu choice for dinner. Dinner is served on Friday and Saturday nights only. The owner spent time going through all the menu choices including an explanation of the ingredients etc. I chose the haddock frittata, sea bass with wild mushroom risotto followed by the chocolate pot served with sea salt Carmel homemade icecream. I enjoyed my meal, portions are hugh but having tasted husband's choices I may have preferred some of his. He had the chicken liver parfait, delicious , roast lamb, tasty but slightly overdone, rhubarb icecream served with homemade shortbread, yummy!! We also had a lovely bottle of wine. We really enjoyed our night, the Walpole is a simple place serving fine food, attentive staff and the owner and her husband the chef are clearly passionate about their food, and the service to their customers reflects this. Our meal cost £87 good value, we plan to go back.

After the reviews we were extremely disappointed. You had to go up to order so no waitress service service. They didn't offer decaf which I would have preferred. The breakfast was satisfactory but certainly nothing to be vowed about. Try visiting the front room in finsbury park then compare! What was most annoying was that we were greeted by signs asking for no prams which would be half their target audience. As I'm pregnant I couldn't understand why women with prams had not been allowed. We were greeted by this very cold person who we think might be Wendy who didn't do much for the place. All in all cold, quite dark cafe and prejudiced to young mums. Not our cup of tea!

The restaurant itself is like an old English bistro, all character, no fuss. Wendy the co-owner is wonderful, giving every customer a full briefing on the day's menu. The wine accompanying the meal (Fleurie) was also excellent and highly recommended. We have tried the rump steak, the chicken and ham pie, and the lamb signature dish. All were seriously good. We eat here as often as we can as we love the Full English Breakfasts. This is a cafe style restaurant and does not try to be anything different. What you see is what you get...be warned the portion sizes are huge and very well cooked. You can mix and match I like me, you don't eat sausages and they really are flexible. The owners are remarkably calm even in the height of a extremely busy service, they are really lovely and the waitress is always welcoming and friendly. Kids are welcome and they can draw on the paper tablecloths which are changed as soon as a customer leaves. In the evenings the cafe is changed to a restaurant and OMG, the food is fantastic. Their signature lamb is the best I have ever eaten and the wine choice excellent. Worth a visit but you have to book in the evenings on a Saturday night. Well done - highly recommended!!!

Had heard and read great things about The Walpole so when we went with three other couples I was really looking forward to it. The restaurant was full and the staff made you feel very welcome but everything after that wasn't anywhere near as good as I had been led to believe. The owner Wendy was lovely but her lengthy spiel of the ingredients and cooking method of every dish became too much quite quickly. Then as we waited for her to explain everything we were told that they were running out of certain dishes, which when you're running a slim menu with only 5/6 dishes to pick from could have been a problem. Then the food turned up. The portions were way too large and comments from our group included 'no seasoning' and 'nothing special'. The fact that 3 people had the cassoulet and no one got close to finishing it or even getting halfway through gives you an idea of how huge and off putting the portions are. It's homely hearty cooking but in my mind certainly nothing stand out and to be honest a bit bland. The ambience of the venue and the people we were with still made it a good night out but don't get too excited about the reviews you may read about this place in terms if the food.

I asked for a flat white (£3.60) and was told it's a £5 minimum card charge. In 2024. In London. Fine, I begrudgingly add a cereal bar. I'm brought over a mediocre coffee, milk was overheated and "cooked". Unfriendly service. Won't be back. Atmosphere was OK.
