This is such a brilliant idea, and makes the meal really interesting when you get to observe the trainees. The food was excellent and we enjoyed guessing what they had been learning about this week based on the menu choices! It was hard to book, and I think we booked about 3 or 4 months in advance. However for the price it’s excellent value for money and a fun evening out! We ate 3 courses and left in exactly 1 hour and I think the attentiveness of the staff made it a very efficient, pleasant and enjoyable meal! We will be coming back.

It was our first visit to Pillars Restaurant but it most definitely will not be the last. We opted for a two course lunch menu which offered a lovely choice and both the starters and the mains were perfectly cooked. The students working front of house were attentive and professional and with that level of cooking and presentation of the dishes I could not recommend this restaurant highly enough. So thank you everybody for a delicious eperience and we most definitely will be back.

I ate in Pillars as part of a group of ten when visiting University of West London. This restaurant is part of the catering college and gives students on hospitality courses an opportunity to learn and train in a real life environment. The restaurant is bright and airy with modern décor. Welcome was warm and friendly and our table laid to a very high standard. As a large party we had pre-ordered our meals so starters were quickly served. All were fresh and nicely presented. Mains were served once starters were cleared and again all dishes arrived together. The quality of the meal was absolutely first class. Ingredients of high quality, cooked to perfection, beautifully presented and served by a very accomplished team. The overall experience was excellent and an absolute steal for the price. This is one of several college restaurants I have eaten in over the years and they all offer great value for the diner and great experience for students training for future careers in the industry. It would make this my first choice venue for lunch or dinner if back in Ealing. Well done team you are undoubtedly the stars of the future

This is a teaching restaurant which offers exceptional value. The seating area has been adapted from a classroom or lecture area, so does not quite achieve the ambiance of an intimate restaurant. The welcome was good. I ordered a zero alcohol beer but was brought an opened bottle of low alcohol beer which I declined, asking for cranberry juice. This came quickly but with ice which I did not want: two assumptions. My partner had a warm salad which she enjoyed and finished before my soup was cool enough to taste: it was very good but served too hot. Our main courses and desserts were very good. Coffee and one glass of wine for my partner were inexpensive. Overall a good experience if you like dining early, as we do

Our first visit, a miserable Wednesday night. We loved the warm welcome and although the restaurant was quiet it had a really pleasant ambience, spotlessly clean, decorated with attractive fresh flowers. I really liked the menu, the choices were appetizing and I really could have happily eaten everything on the menu. My starter of beetroot tarte tatin was delicious, the egg perfectly cooked. A fresh foccacia was provided on the table and we soon demolished the lot. Our table chose the cod and beans and the oxtail as our mains. We all raved about the food. If we were being picky we all found this course a little heavy on the salt, not enough to spoil our food but our preference would be for less. We all ordered dessert. The choice of a melting chocolate sponge or pannacotta. Now I'm a fair cook and I regularly make pannacotta but this made my own (well regarded) efforts look poor! It was 10 out of 10 perfection! Fabulous. All very simple and that is not a criticism. Our waiter was careful, attentive and gained confidence throughout the evening. Full credit to him. Well priced, good quality wine also added to our enjoyment. My only minor issue was were was the lemon in my G and T? 😊 We will be back, thanks for helping us to have a very pleasant evening.

The restaurant is tucked behind the University of West London in Ealing. An inviting warm atmosphere with a modern decor. The students are training and supervised. You can tell a bit nervousness in the students but overall they did a great job. The chefs were able to accommodate a gluten and diary free diet and also my colleague who was vegetarian. The bread and butter was better than top end eateries in London. Also, a gluten free bread was delivered. We asked for an additional serving! Water was served infused with mint & cucumber. The cauliflower steaks were flavorful and filling, the soups were served hot and at a perfect consistency. The value you get for nourishing cuisine is to phenomenal. Lovely food, but maybe not quite as hot as it should have been. We had to ask the waitress for a copy of the Christmas menu as we were not given one. Other guests were handed a menu when they arrived. No wine list was offered and when we asked for one, the waitress brought the drinks list, not the wine list. We had to ask again and the wine list arrived with another waitress. Lack of attention to detail and supervision by the overseeing management. Surely a senior person should be watching the students and correcting them if necessary. I saw none of this happening. All in all, an enjoyable Christmas lunch, but a lot of important things lacking.

Y no patatas asadas! El budín de navidad que siguió fue bien pero sirve muy cubiertas con salsa de brandy que no sobras congeladas era muy apetecible. Tarta con Misa del Gallo y café para seguir, no me puedo quejar el valor y lo seguiré recomendando a las columnas.

This restaurant, based in the University of West London, is staffed by students and trainee chefs. The meal was amongst the best I've ever eaten, and at £18 for three courses an absolute bargain. Even the wine is well-priced; my Burgundian dining partner was impressed! Being new starters in training, there were mistakes and some staff seemed nervous. My order got messed up but they did everything they could to put it right. There was no ill-feeling though as they were so nice about it and clearly trying their hardest, and the food itself was so good. The restaurant is smart and clean with a silver-service approach. It's not the cosiest or places as it's based inside a university building rather than a purpose-built restaurant, but we still had a relaxing evening and were treated like royalty. Check before you go - you need to have a reservation and they're only open on certain days and in term-time. In short, superb experience. I hope they bring in an online booking system so that we can start getting dates in the diary for our next visits!

Part of the experience is that every meal is a training event. the waiters and the cooks are students, well supervised by the staff. Last night we had an excellent menu - three courses for £18.50. I had pork belly, followed by duck, then Tiramisu. The meat was excellent - cooked to a very high standard, though the duck was served on a waffle which was a mistake! The service was very attentive, though occasionally slow. There is a modest wine list, our Malbec was excellent and very cheap by restaurant standards. We had an excellent evening, the food was mostly excellent and well presented, and did not cost a fortune. In addition, I like to think we helped a group of young people on their way to a career in catering.

I had a meal last night at Pillars Restaurant at West London University. The food was excellent and the price a very pleasant surprise. A three-course dinner for £18.50, but also very reasonably-priced wine (a bottle of Malbec for £18), meant that this added up to outstanding value.I began with a starter of pork belly, which was cooked to perfection. The main was lamb, again very nicely cooked, and the pudding was an incredible Pecan Pie with home-made ice cream. All courses were beautifully-presented and the staff were attentive, and although they didn't always get it right, they tried very hard to make this a pleasant dining experience. This is a training restaurant for the catering school at the university, but trainees are clearly very well-supervised. The head chef came to the table and chatted with us, keen to gain feedback about the food. We also ordered a half bottle of Sauternes to go with the puddings - this cost £9, and I remarked that in a hotel or central London restaurant, you would have paid that for a glass! The atmosphere is pleasant, without oozing ambience (it's a bit 'modern' for my taste), and the staff are wonderful - to a person they were pleasant, attentive and polite, but without being sycophantic.Highly, highly recommended.

I has a salmon starter which was excellent and the sirloin steak which was melt in the mouth delicious. Sticky toffee for pudding which i felt had been over worked as it was a little bit too stodgie. My parter had the artichoke soup which was flavoursome and seasoned well. She had the roast lamb for main, which although cooked well, was under seasoned. The plum and almond tart for dessert, which was tasty but could of done with a little more custard. Wine as £13 for a sancerre again great value. I was there with the Food Club's annual meeting and so we were treated to having each course announced and the staff standing to ovation at the end.The students/staff tried incredibly hard, although there were mistakes with serving and bones in my fish, as well as spilling of the wine when pouring, it was still a great evening. This year 22 went and I must congratulate the restaurant management and staff's responds to a vegetarian member that was also dairy intolerant, they quickly producied alternatives for both the main course and sweet courses, well done. All of the walkers enjoyed the food on offer and I cannot help but wonder were we will go Xmas 2015. If you live locally do yourself a favour and visit the best restaurant in town.

I shared a fabulous Christmas lunch here today with three friends. The food was delicious and very well served. Two of us have been lifelong teachers (I was in Food Technology) and it is so rewarding to observe students who have been well tutored and trained to a high standard. There is a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant and everyone is genuinely welcoming. This will not be our last visit here and I shall be happy to recommend Pillars.

Described as above by a local newspaper and justly so. We went the other day for the last Christmas Dinner service of this year. I knew of the principle of these establishments (our local one was 'privatised' some years ago and disappeared) but this was the first try. Delightful and value for money.Though based in a typical 1960s block the restaurant area has been renovated and furnished extremely well. The waiters were all trainees on the courses run at this college and had youth, energy, enthusiasm and dedication at their core. The Christmas dinner comprised, for us meat eaters, of smoked salmon and creme fraiche with smoked halibut starter, followed by mushroom soup with 3 types of funghi, A turkey Christmas dinner (masses of turkey meat) followed with roast potatoes, roast parsnip, sprouts, carrots, chestnut stuffing and bacon wrapped sausages with gravy. Then Christmas pudding with brandy sauce followed with a mince pie and coffee. We had table crackers with good quality trinkets inside and a small box containing 2 home made truffles. The drinks included a free glass of mulled wine and we bought a bottle of Prosecco for 4 of us for £15. Cocktails alcoholic and non alcholic were available from the bar.I'm feeling full just reviewing this! .The food was excellent. Well cooked and professionally presented The staff were understandably conscious of their roles being observed. They were, in my humble opinion, worthy of any thing a West End Restaurant may expect of them. I'm delighted to have been there and shared in their futures. We were hosted so i don't know the exact cost but looking at another review from last year's dinner I'd be surprised if it were more than £22 a head. Try it yourself in in the area - but book first!

All of the walking group who visited The Pillars last Xmas enjoyed the food so much that we decided to return again this year. !5 of us enjoyed a seasonal meal with all the trimings. We took along some new walkers who also enjoyed their meal, there is a good chance that God willing we will all return again next year. I would recommend this venue to everyone. We were served by a young lady student and a young man student who's name was Oscar he came from Poland and I promised to mention him in my review.

My recent visit to this training restaurant was with a large group (60+) for a lunch to celebrate St George's Day. I had an excellent meal of leek and potato soup followed by perfectly cooked lamb with fondant potato, al dente green beans and caramelised carrots. For dessert I resisted the tempting 'chocolate box' and ice cream, which I was told were delicious, opting for the fruit salad which included some less usual fruit. We finished with delicious petits fours (several in my case!) and coffee. The price including a glass of wine was just £18 - amazing value! And an extra bottle of Merlot cost us just £10. As well as being cooked by students, all the service is carried out by students - under the eagle eyes of their tutors - and it was a pleasure to be served by them. The only slip-up I noted was when they started clearing our soup bowls while some people on our table were still eating; this was corrected by the time we had our mains. I would certainly recommend Pillars. It is not a venue for an intimate meal but for a group it would be hard to beat.

The Ealing Walks Wednesday walking group that both my wife and I attend visited this Restaurant last Thursday 13th December 2012 for our Xmas Lunch. There were 15 ladies and myself I was outnumbered. This was the first time that most of us had been there, it was recommended by one of the ladies. This was quite an experience, all of the waiters are students learning the skills required for their chosen careers. The food was once again cooked by students. The lunch which was 5 course started with a Smoked Salmon with prawn and potato salad dish, the soup was pumpkin which I have not tasted before and this was good enough for me to try it again, this was followed by a tradditional Xmas dinner plate presented as a stack with the tradditional accompanyments the xmas pudding with a delightfully different Brandy sauce finishing with Coffee and a hand made Mince pie. We had Mulled Wine, a couple of chocolates in a small box and a Xmas cracker. This cost just £21.50 each great value. I will try the normal daily menu in the new year which I am told is great food for great value. If you decide to go there be sure to prebook. WELL DONE TO ALL OF THE STUDENTS

Pillars is The University of West London School of Hospitality and Tourism's award-winning training restaurant. The restaurant is a specially designed educational environment where students learn the art of fine service and culinary practices. I have been there few times and every time was an unique experience, students are developing menus that are worth it a five star and service is great. I would suggest this place to anyone in the area that would like to enjoy a michelin starred experience at a very low cost. The restaurant is to the public on Thursday evenings during term-time in addition to serving the public four days a week during lunch-time.

What a great bar, the best in the Ealing Broadway/South Ealing area in my opinion. The Sunday carvery is amazing... delicious food and plenty of it! Great for watching rugby too. I would highly recommend. Thanks!
