We came here last week after a funeral, as it was local to the church. Looked a nice pub, great that it has a car park and easy access for elderly, as a couple in our party were. However lack of basic staff hygiene really put us off ordering food. Waitress with the pink hair and tattoos was frequently stroking customers dogs, then serving drinks and food - no hand washing!!! Come on, this is basic hygiene. We won't be back. Customers next to us were complaining that the chips were different and were dry, as were the burgers... so we went to Washington for an Italian instead!

Came here for a meal with the family, we'd seen the inn before but never had thought to pop in before. We all chose different meals which all arrived in decent time. Our waitress, I believe her name was Jen, was lovely and very patient with my young daughter. Place has a lovely atmosphere and I recommend to anyone considering visiting.

Ahhh I’m so disappointed because food during the week is brilliant but Sunday lunch today wasn’t the best. We got leek and potato soup which was quite thin and had no seasoning at all. It came with bread and butter but the bread was a burger bun which was stale. The mains arrived and the small pork dinner was fine no complaints from the person eating that one. The other two beef dinners again no seasoning, mash was very watery. Yorkie pud decent. The desserts were okay the sticky toffee pudding a little on the dry side but fine and the apple crumble no complaints. We also felt a little rushed we were seated at 12:20 and were out the door by 1. Plates were whipped away and next course at the table within a min. Such a shame because the food during the week is amazing so thought we’d give the Sunday lunch a try.

The pub itself is so pretty , the owner is lovely however the food left a lot to be desired. I had the arabiatta with chicken which was tasteless, no seasoning and no or very little garlic. . Tasted like tinned tomatoes tossed in pasta. My friend had the corned beef pie and said it was just OK . The girl who came to collect the plates didnt ask if every thing was OK despite the full plates, but what she said was "do you want a sweet or NOT". It's a shame the staff couldn't have sounded interested in their customers .

Food is disgusting no flavour and dry the only okay part was the garlic sauce that came with the starter. Dont understand how you can forget to cook a childs meal when the place is basically empty. Should of been a sign not to order in the first place.

Had a mixed grill here last night 13th September 2023 at a price of £14.95 and it was really poor the steak was tough the lamb cutlet was so thin you couldn't get any meat off it but the biggest disappointment was the items that were missing! I was asked if I wanted peas or salad, neither were on the plate. There was supposed to be black pudding and onion rings but again they were missing. Really poor experience. My wife had the chicken Kiev which was dry hard and over cooked and looked as if it had come straight out of a box of two from a budget supermarket. The staff are lovely the pub itself has always been welcoming but last night the food was a major let down. Yes we should have complained but we aren't the type ! So our loss and lesson learned !!

We went for Sundays lunch and had a table of 4. Everything was normal to start with until we received our meals. 3 roasts and 1 lasagna. The older lady who waits on tables is extremely rude. It felt as though we were a nuisance by being there. I have never had a waitress be so rude and blunt with me - unbelievable. Also the table system means that the staff shout your name out - very strange and made us feel uncomfortable. It became a running joke as we were there. 2 meals came out and then 10 minutes later the final 2 meals. The roasts were very average. No additional veg or gravy were provided, just bog standard. The mash was extremely spicy and we genuinely think the chef spilt pepper in the mash by accident - I have never had mash like it - strange. There was another waitress who wore a top which had all of her back exposed - unprofessional and made us uncomfortable. She also seemed drunk/high as she was speaking to herself and being generally strange. We ate our food what we could and then again 2 plates picked up, and then the other 2 left for another 10/15 minutes. Very inconsistent and poor. We then ordered deserts and these took over 20 minutes to be brought to us. Bang average again. Treacle was far too sweet. Portions very small for the price. The bill was the quickest thing that came to us - shock! It was slammed on the table. We paid up and could not leave quick enough. The staff need to smile because I have felt more atmosphere at a funeral. I have been here a few times and always had a good experience however after this time I will not be attending again. New management perhaps? I would advise they read the recent negative comments before too many people are turned away. There are close competition nearby (Engine Room & The Ship) which are very nice which I will be going to next time.

We stopped off on a lovely sunny bank holiday Monday, As someone who has to be careful with gluten for health reasons, the staff were brilliant. As soon as we mentioned in 3 members of staff were able to tell me what was gluten free and offered to double check with the chef. The menu is extensive and there is lots of choice. We opted to sit inside and the interiors are beautiful, lots of space between tables and a lovely ambiance. As it was lunch time, I opted for a jacket potato with beans, which came with a very fresh side salad and coleslaw and my mam opted for the hot beef stottie. The slices of beef looked lovely, they were very tender and chunky. This was also served with chips and a the choice of a side salad or peas. As designated driver, I only drank water but my mam had a large pinot with soda and the total came in under £25. Couldn't fault it at all and can't wait to return. Thank you!

Absolutely dreadful Sunday lunch. Servings were very small, meat was that thin it could be used for tracing paper and beyond dry. Nothing on the plate had any taste whatsoever. Never had a bad meal here. Our new go to place over the past six months. They're often busy, and occasionally we've had to wait to for a table, but it's always worth the wait. Staff are friendly and the food is always fresh and piping hot. On our last visit, I opted for the chicken supreme in a tarragon cream sauce from the specials board which was tasty and enjoyable. My daughter had the Whitby Prawns starter, followed by honeycomb cheesecake which see said was one of the best she'd had. The atmosphere is also as good as we've experienced. Recommended for couples and families, but book!

I’ve just returned from lunch at the Waggon - we have been here lots of times and never could fault a thing. The place was always packed, not today. Empty car park, very few occupied tables. Service was spot on, staff lovely. The prices have shot up (maybe to be expected), we ordered our usual hot beef sandwiches and the scampi. All three meals were dry as bones. The bap was stale, hardly any gravy inside, the chips were stale and my side salad would have fitted into a spoon. The scampi was hard and chewy, same issue with chips. I paid and fed back on the issues to the staff, who said we could have asked for more gravy, which is true enough, but nobody came and checked with us. What a real pity as this used to be a fabulous pub of choice.

Our table was spaced at least five metre distance from the next, so we felt safe. The staff were very attentive from start to finish, the food arrival quickly and was piping hot. I had the cajun butterfly chicken which was very nicely cooked. This was our first visit out since lockdown, and we felt safe and thoroughly enjoyed out whole experience from the food to the welcoming of the staff. We have re-booked for next week and could see this becoming our new "local"

There were no visible, marked disabled parking bays. There is only one way in and out, making social distancing impossible, if someone is going in at the same time as someone else is coming out and you have to run the gauntlet of smokers outside the entrance. Sanitiser is available throughout the pub. Our original seats were very uncomfortable and we asked to move, which we did and the result was much better. There was a nice breeze coming through the open windows. However, there was also a degree of cigarette smoke coming in, from the smokers outside. If Corona virus doesn't get you, lung cancer will. Some members of staff were not wearing masks and whilst this may not be compulsory in the hospitality trade; common sense ought to prevail. As the virus is most readily spread by minute droplets from the mouth, someone standing over you whilst you are seated, can easily distribute those miniscule particle, whilst they talking to you. Therefore, a mask should be essential. The food was very nice and I had a lovely piece of Salmon; though my full salad accompaniment could have been a little more imaginative. For an expensive £2.50, our lime and sodas could have done with a lot more fizz in the soda, as they were virtually flat. The menus were standard and not single use. As they were not laminated, I find it hard to believe that they were continually cleaned after each use, without them showing signs of rotting away. Having been to a number of eateries lately, I felt the least safe here.

Hadn't booked and was a bit wary from some poor reviews recently added but couldn't have been happier with my visit. Me and a friend hadn't booked but they said a table was due to be free. It had just stopped raining so we asked to wait outside and the member of staff wiped down the very wet table and chairs for us. We ordered drinks and were told the table would be available as soon as it was thoroughly cleaned. We did wait a little while for our food but it wasn't a problem. The staff were very helpful the whole time. We'll definitely be back.

Called in by chance whilst passing and was impressed. Friendly staff Quickly shown to a table ( a few reserved signs so popular) and browsed the menuChose the home made Steak and Kidney pie and the Missus has the Corned Beef Served up quickly and devoured with gusto. Looked around and the other diners seemed to mirror our appetite Great little find and worth the return visit in the future

Booked a table to take advantage of 50%. When we arrived we were taken to our table, drinks orders were taken then 10/15 mins later food order was taken. We waited nearly an hour for our food to be served. The food was nice and hot and tasted nice. During the meal we had 2 half glasses of coke and had been charged 2 different prices with a difference of .40p!!!The reason for my not returning is there was absolutely no social distancing. The tables were next to each other with less than 1 meter between some. The staff were friendly but only 1 out of 5 was wearing a face covering. When leaving the restaurant we had to squeeze past people who were queuing to get in.The restaurant has ample space to move tables around to make it a safer environment for customers but I feel other than taken orders at the tables and putting a couple of bottles of sanitizer around they havent followed any social distance regulations.

We visited The Waggon as our first meal out in 4 months thanks to lockdown. I’d seen photos on Facebook of the lovely renovation of the beer garden and after looking at the menu online, we decided to give it a try for the first time this week and take advantage of Boris’ eat out to help out deal. Booking over the phone was no issue and we were really looking forward to it as we’ve not eaten out for ages. On arrival we waited at the entrance to be seated. This took around 15/20 minutes but we could see they were busy and understand there is extra pressure to fully sanitise tables after each customer so we didn’t mind waiting. Once seated we decided to take advantage of the 50% off deal and go for a couple of steaks from the grill menu. We then sat for around half an hour waiting for someone to take our order (we had no drinks or anything at this point). Again, we chalked this up to them having to get used to new restrictions and did not complain as they were clearly very busy. Eventually we placed our order and were then told they didn’t have 2 of the steaks we had ordered, they only had 1. Fine, we changed the order to a different steak. We ordered them medium rare. We then waited a further half an hour or so for the food to arrive by which point we were feeling a bit frustrated. It was busy but not completely full and the people around us were all also getting a bit frustrated at the slow service. When the steaks eventually arrived they were completely overcooked and tough and really just not that pleasant to eat. I tried to speak to someone but no one came near our table again for us to be able to. By this point we had been waiting around an hour and 20 minutes for our meals and we were really hungry so we just ate what was there. When the plates were cleared they asked how the meal was and we told them honestly it wasn’t great it was very overcooked but no one came anywhere near for us to tell. We just asked for the bill and when it came they had deducted the 2 soft drinks we had had from the total. I totally appreciate that there are new restrictions in place and that it was busy but the food and the service were both very poor and unfortunately, this first time visitor won’t be back as there are far nicer pubs in the area. We appreciated the small deduction in the bill (very glad we weren’t paying full price for the food anyway) but an apology would have been better rather than the rather abrupt attitude we got instead. A real shame as the pub looked lovely.

We arrived without booking and managed to be seated straight away. Hand sanitiser available upon entry. We were guided to to our table and given a menu. The pub offers table service, we ordered our drinks which were presented to up promptly by a friendly member of staff. We ordered our food and it didn’t take long to be served to us. The food was delicious with generous portions. I opted for the Homemade Chicken Curry, it was well presented and tasted great. The prices are very reasonable, staff very friendly and the food delicious! Highly recommended.

we came here regularly even for family meals for parties , and never had any problems , we went back after lock down for our first meal out , wish we went else where , we reserved seating over the phone days previously , to be told to sit else where , then got asked if we wanted ice and lemon in the pepsi , we said no , they brought ice and lemon then made us look like liars when we sent it back , asked for one condiment each , only one brought out , salt two tiny packets and one already used packet , got sat next to a radiator which was on full blast when it was 18 degrees ?! ordered three mains , two were correct, one was advertised as lamb cutlets, they gave us chops which are much cheaper than what they are charging for cutlets , they were full of fat and bone , unedible , got made to feel stupid , two of use tried to find meat , got told we left a full chop which we did not it was the fat and bone that was left ! £3 took off the bill so we paid £6.95 for veg ! then felt rushed to finished , never again !

Visited the waggon inn this afternoon for afternoon tea which I must say is one of the best I've had everything lovely and fresh with as much tea as you can drink all served by lovely friendly staff. You have to book it at least a day before and they give you a few options for your sandwich fillings of which you choose 3 so at least you know your going to like them and for the £10.95 price tag a bargain all 4 of us came home with a goody box we just couldn't finish it all. Get it booked you wont be disappointed.

Ate here for 4 days whilst on a coach trip. The establishment was clean and the staff were pleasant, but there were a few things that let it down. My main concern was that there were no sneeze guards over any of the food, particularly where the desserts were laid out and everybody had to pass/wait in order to get their main meal. Likewise, in the hot plate area there was no food protection whatsoever, and while this may not be a mandatory requirement, this is the only hotel in years that I haven't seen this in place to protect customers and staff alike, even before covid times. The breakfast is very good although we missed some mushrooms with our full English, and ironically the fresh bread is covered with a tea towel. The dinner portion sizes were a bit hit and miss, as one evening my partner got 1 small fishcake, 3 new potatoes and a bit of veg, not very substantial for an adult, yet my stuffed peppers and vegetables was a good size. We also thought that £37 for a bottle of Errazuriz Chardonnay was very extreme, and while we understand there has to be a mark up, we didn't pay this much in London!

A great, cheap and cheerful, good value breakfast, as a great break from some shopping in the Metro Centre. It is a big pub, so plenty of tables, including lots of booths which give a nice touch. Between us we had different breakfast muffins, including the bacon and egg, and the veggie sausage - both were great. The veggie sausages were really tasty and good quality - as good as the real thing! Using the app makes ordering really easy, and tea and coffee refills are free. So all in all, a great breakfast at a great price, in a nice setting.
