Reasonable beer selection and pricing. It's unique charm is being a old front room of a house. Pleasant place though seemed to be cash only.

Proper pub. Beer and conversation and usually busy. No food, 1960s/70s music in the background. Only two small rooms so be prepared to talk to other customers who are a mix of locals and visitors

Easily the most friendliest and welcoming proper pub I visited on my brief sojourn to the island. The ales are well kept and paraphenalia on walls worth the price of a pint to see.

One of the best pubs in Ventnor and with a 'friendly local' atmosphere. A regular in the Good Beer Guide and hosted by a very experienced and friendly publican. On my last visit Bass was on draught and you won't find that in many places on the island. I recommend that any visitor should look in at the pub, if only to see the huge array of memorabilia that adorns the walls. This is a very unique and delightful drinker's pub, that would feel equally at home were it transported back in time fifty years ago.

Brilliant proper local pub. Friendly staff and locals. A real experience if you are on holiday and looking for a great pub. I am originally from Birmingham and met a local who lived in Birmingham only about 5 miles from me and knew exactly where I lived. Does not serve food and there is no swearing. I will be in Ventnor again next year, it will certainly on list of pubs to visit. The beer is good too.

This is a gem of a real ale pub, small, cosy and what a relief, somewhere to enjoy quiet conversation, and sometimes acoustic music.

Visited mid week - staff excellent in every way dealing with customers and providing exceptional service. Food very good value and quality - beer equally so. The atmosphere reflected how well the establishment was able to deal with a majority of locals with a number of visitors interspersed in a single space.

A proper traditional Pub with clean pints and very smart well presented barmen wearing shirt & tie. Walls filled with historic memorabilia, I love this pub 6 stars.

If you're not sure what a pub should be like, The Volunteer will be an education. I've know this place for very nearly 50 years and still delighted when I visit. NO food Excellent beer.

Good small pub, welcoming landlord and friendly locals, a few nice beers and a craft cider. In the Good beer guide 2022. It has a sister bar a few hundred metres away called "Perks".

Very friendly great service at reasonable prices. Definitely go again. Visited whilst waiting for family member in Dentist next door.

This wonderful bar/cafe is situated in the heart of the town and the heart of the town is situated in Perks. A real blast from the past with walls covered in pictures and photos from way back when. Superb coffees and light meals at extremely reasonable prices make this my favourite venue in Ventnor. Highly recommended.

A lovely quirky pub selling excellent beer. You naturally fall into conversation with other customers. The barman had a lovely sense of humour. Amazing stuff on the walls - almost a mini museum. It's definitely a "go to" place if you're visiting Ventnor.
