The menu for a Saturday night was boring have been here before for Sunday lunch & it was very nice & our table was not in a very nice area & very tight as we had booked before we arrived I though we would have had a better table ?

Fabulous country pub in the middle of nowhere. Food rating of 2 for hot dogs and poor chips at beer festival... suspect Sunday lunches in regular restaurant much much better. Beer and staff excellent and friendly.

Very tasty Sunday lunch, this pub is very old and somewhat cramped inside, but it was never built as a restaurant but as a Ale House that has now become a restaurant. Great location in the woods as well, I would definitely go back.

Out of the way can be a good thing, or a bad thing: for the Viper, it's an excellent thing! The Viper has always been worth travelling to, for food or drink, and the cosy atmosphere (with some olde worlde decor) just reminds me of what good well kept pubs were and that there's still a place for them. Well worth a visit.

The Viper is like an oasis, especially if you travel by bike; located in the middle of woodland it feels miles from anywhere. There is a very good range of beers, and the brews we sampled were really good. However this isn't a foodie destination; the sandwich I ordered was nicely presented, but the bread was a bit dry, and the choice overall wasn't very inspiring.

revisited the Viper again yesterday with some friends and was very disappointed with their menu. We have been here numerous times in the past and had some really good lunches like the excellent ham or cheese ploughmens, ham ,egg and chips, steak and ale or chicken and mushroom pies, sausage and mash but all seem to be missing from the present menu ? The menu is now very basic more like a cafe menu such as jacket potatoe with cheese (£7-95 ) or tuna and sweetcorn (£8-95) or sandwiches e.g. ham and mustard (7-50) and their beefburger at £16-95. The menu now seems expensive . We left with out ordering and do not plan a return visit

Went with three friends to their beer festival on Friday 26th of May. Whilst the beers were nicely cooled, many lacked any condition (and this was the 1st day of a four day event). We were even more disappointed that of the 40+ beers on offer, all but one came from Essex (that was in the pub bar). What was really annoying that all beers up to 4.9% were £5.00 per pint, and all at 5% or over (of which there were few) were £6.00 per pint. These prices are an absolute rip-off. It was also unnecessary to charge a non refundable £1.00 deposit for an old CAMRA beer festival glass. Probably the cooling equipment was provided by local breweries and therefore those breweries wanted their beers showcased, but you do not go to a beer festival to drink beers brewed locally and commonly available in many pubs in the area. We will not be attending any such event in future.

These little sides are a disgrace very small and there's no dressing for the salad. The people though are quality people just not the food portions.

Came to visit daughter on placement from uni. Wasn’t busy but was told food be about 30 mins was over a hour till we got it. Husband had a lasagne and daughter and I had ultimate sharer, which was only 2 of each different selection?? Wouldn’t class as ultimate as needed at least 4 of each thing to feed 2 people. Husband said lasagne could had been bigger portion as well. Food was nice though but bigger portions would be great. Staff were all friendly can’t fault them. Would visit again if bigger portions.

Booked a table for 2 last night. When we sat down we were told it was their last night before closing so the menu was limited! Why weren't we told before we booked?! Literally 5 dishes left on the menu. Poor quality. Unprofessional staff, treating the place like a youth centre. No wonder it's closing down.

The afternoon teas are always delicious here. I love that they always have something savoury and different to accompany the sandwiches and different sandwich fillings, not the traditional flavours you normally get. It keeps it interesting. The cakes are bite size, which is perfect and the scones delicious. The only thing I would say is maybe a few more tea selections, i.e., maybe Earl Grey and a rooibos tea. Anyway, it was a great afternoon.
