Always had a fantastic experience with great food and service with Andrew and Alex. Unfortunately the last visit before it changes hands left me with an awful experience that will leave me with a negative memory. One of their staff was rude, pushy and plainly bullying. A long haired woman, who always seemed through various vsits create a less than positive atmosphere when left to run the cafe. Hoping she is not going to be left behind to work in the new cafe to open at the location, would not be a positive start for them. Such a shame after all the hard work by Alex and Andy and pleasure they have brought to so many people.

Simple floral themed decoration. Fantastic ‘old fashioned’ cutlery and crockery. Good menu choice at OK prices, including delicious paninis. Proper tea (with leaves and a strainer). Friendly owner/staff. The whole experience evoked memories of tea at nans. What’s not to like?

Brought my neighbour for afternoon tea to celebrate her birthday. Our welcome could not have been warmer, even asked for her favourite singer and played their music during our visit. So nice to be able to select your own afternoon tea items from an extensive menu. Food was delicious and the presentation was just perfect. Lovely atmosphere with great decor. It’s obvious the whole team take a real pride in providing delicious food in this well loved establishment. I highly recommend you give this lovely tea room a try!

After trailing the other cafes on the road this was the only place that was serving scones and they were just on their way fresh to the counter. Best scone, real scone in Whitley Bay so far. Posher places cannot match them at this cafe, and they are not small! The best homemade experience. Will not be going anywhere else now.

What a treat..... Popped in for a cup of tea, when the charming gentleman at the till told us that there were hot scones almost ready to be plated up.....Well say no more....yes please. My sister wanted the fruit one and I plumped for the cheese. Our lovely man told us that we should then opt for the high~tea scone combo, which included jam and cream and tea, or cheese and pickle with tea. The perfect choice. Scones were light and very, very tasty......... Lovely atmosphere in the cafe, light and airy..... Thank you

Lovely coffee and the kids really enjoyed their milkshakes. While everyone loved their cakes that they had chosen from the big selection of choice they had here. Very good sizes of cake too and not one of the kids could eat it all. Ran by a very friendly couple that made us feel extremely welcomed, I would certainly go back again for coffee and cake, with gluten free option too.

I was my friend in Whitley Bay and coming from Norway, I had made a wish for English afternoon tea. What a lucky choice this was! The sandwiches were fresh and tasty, the quiche was yummy, the scones were sooo good and the cakes - we didn't have room for the cakes, which we brought with us home and very much enjoyed later in the evening. The staff was very kind and service-minded. The cafe itself is cosy and sweet, and it feels like walking into your grandmother's house. Everything - including toilets - was nice, clean and tidy.

Booked this after it was recommended by a colleague. It was very quiet when we arrived and we were greeted by staff immediately who asked if we wanted our nails done before or after the afternoon tea. We choose before and we’re shown to the back room (used for treatments and parties) and both my daughter and I got our nails painted in our chcoice of colours. We were also offered a choice of a good variety of drinks whilst we got our nails done. The lady was very chatty and friendly and the atmosphere was very relaxed (unlike other beauty and afternoon tea places!). Afterwards we went back through to the tea shop and another lady came to ask my preferences for scones, cake and sandwiches (also lots of variety). The food came in good time and was presented immaculately! Everything was delicious and we couldn’t finish it so took the rest home in a doggy bag!I also asked for a hot chocolate for my little girl, expecting to pay extra but I wasn’t charged for this.£30 for everything we had which is excellent value.A lovely place, wonderful staff and we will be returning!

Booked a table for 3 for afternoon tea for a friend's 70th birthday. Firstly I had difficulty parking as on-street parking is only for an hour. Then we arrived to find all tables (only 6) were taken. We were assured that they had our booking and one would be free very soon so we were left standing in waitresses' way in the confined space until a table for 2 became available and we were invited to sit down to wait. After a long wait we eventually got a table. The afternoon tea itself was, I guess, OK. I have had much better but paid more, but my friend said she had also paid less and had better so ....... Also, it was quite cold and I regretted buying a new top for the occasion as I kept my coat on all the time! It was not a good day for the staff as a long strip of plastic fell from the ceiling, hitting one of the customers on the head! Because we were so late getting a table we were the only people left in the cafe but that was soon filled with workmen with stepladders!! On the plus side, I have to say that the staff were extremely pleasant and apologetic. We were offered tea or coffee while we waited and, as well as deducting one person from the bill, we also received a voucher for a future visit for afternoon tea for 3. I think that was very fair. However overall, I feel quite sad that our treat for our friend was disappointing. Perhaps they need to look at their policy on booking tables for the future.

Been here before for afternoon tea and it was ok. Called in on a Saturday afternoon and ordered proper food - by that I mean mince and dumplings, chicken and mushroom and leek pie and a breakfast. The place was quite busy and very very cramped. After waiting for ages, my daughter got her breakfast - on 2 plates because they didn't have a big enough plate! My mince and dumplings came next - a very small pot with lid on a tea plate, served with bread and butter. Inside the pot was the smallest amount of mince and a dumpling! Wouldn't have fed my 1 year old grandson, never mind me - and there were no vegetables to have with it - fresh or otherwise! My husband's pie was the same. Someone suggested to me that these might be 'vintage' type meals - but they do not carry a vintage type price!! It was extremely expensive for what it was and such a disappointment. The young waitress was wearing a dirty jumper and looked as if she had just fell out of bed. The older lady was very nice but got very flustered. All in all, not a good experience and I will not visit this establishment again.

So it is a good place for proper Tearooms, should you want old fashioned traditional Tearooms and not Costa or Flaming Grill !There is a good choice for Vegetarians and people who cannot consume sugary products. Cleanliness is quite good. The interior is one tearoom. Which has attractive coloured tables , chairs and paintwork. The ornamentation is pretty , with old fashioned teapots displayed. I got the feeling it was Shabby Chic or, a Modern version of the 1930s and 1940s. It did not feel or look Victorian at all. The olde Coziness level was not huge. But the place was nice. The waitress was extremely polite , gracious and had a calm attitude. Even with another customer who complained about their food After eating it all. They are very happy to alter what's on the menu and cater for special diets. This is a massive Plus and a true sign that people care for the customer. There was no loud, pop music. Music was softly played and from the 1950s or 60s. One waitress had hair, make up and clothes that were a modern take on the 1940 s or early 1950s. Our food was nice. They have a decently imaginative menu. Our tea was presented in old fashioned tea pots, jug, cups and saucers. Which was delightful. The only downside was a rude woman with a new baby who banged into our table and upset the teas. She left it to her mother to apologise for her. For twenty minutes, she talked loudly , until they left. The place then returned to peacefulness. It's sad there are no rules to bar such individuals! There was room for our wheelchair inside. We sat in the two nice armchairs by the front window. The other seating is all standard wooden backed chairs with seat pads. Not the best for bad backs or neck illnesses. A nice tea room. A pleasant place. We will return.

If you are looking to go somewhere slightly different for Afternoon Tea, the Vintage Powder Room and Tea Shop in Whitley Bay is definitely worth a visit. Decorated in the style of years gone by, it’s a quirky place - with some of the staff even dressed up to match the vintage mood. I had been there previously for lunch but decided to take my mother for Afternoon Tea which at £8.95 was incredibly reasonably priced. A selection of freshly made sandwiches – including a vegetarian option– and one large scone each with clotted cream and jam were followed by a number of tempting cakes (we admitted defeat at this point and were given the uneaten items away in a goodie bag!) Additional special offers include various beauty and hair pampering sessions – but be warned, you would be well advised to book your table in advance – it was very busy when we visited and there are less than a dozen tables. Only complaint was that I was charged full price for a latte when I chose not to have the tea or coffee which was included in the Afternoon Tea – I had been advised a small extra charge would be made but I did not expect to be charged for the latte in full, in addition to the £8.95 which would have included a cup of tea or coffee anyway!

friendly, helpful staff, nice cosy tearooms with little nic nacs, nice interior decor, was like stepping back in time, nicely presented food, although myself personally found the scones a bit heavy, bite size sandwiches, sausage rolls cakes all very nice, will definitely go back.

Looking for somewhere new to have lunch with friends and found this little place. Fifties shabby chic, a tasty panini and a good pot of tea with home made cake to follow was just what the occasion called for. Parts still to be refurbished but it looks promising. I would definitely go again.

first , when we got there, the lady's were very polite and made a cup of tea for my mum and dad . I waited for my friends and as soon as they all arrived we all got started . While some of us were getting are hair and make up done they gave us nail plaits to draw on . I was the first one to get my make up done and i thought they done an amazing job, I had never looked so pretty before . Later on , i got my nails and hair done i had curls and roles in the top of my hair my hair was the most prettiest thing ever . For my nails i got pink sparkles and a light pink bass, my nails looked really good .A while after I got a stick on Tattoo and it stayed on for a while it peeled of because it was on my hand .After all of the pampa was finished , me and my friends had afternoon tea and it was delicious , they had a very large variety and lots of choice's of food . They had a very good service and i would defiantly go back there with friends or family.by Eleanor

A lucky find over bank holiday weekend. The kids enjoyed Reese's and Crunchie milkshakes, and I had a really good coffee (am a coffee snob so I know it was good!) Fantastic nicely presented cake and scone selection and even a gluten free scone for husband.Lovely environment with pleasant background music (50s? Wouldn't normally notice or comment on the music but put a smile on my face. Added to ambience) I didn't use the toilet facilities (which previous reviewer mentioned) so can't comment. Everything else spotlessly clean so I'm sure they would be too. The overall impression I got was that it's a business run with care and doing their best....Loved the idea of mum and daughter nails and various other such treats advertised on blackboards - just the kind of thing I would have gone for when my daughter was smaller!Would definitely call again and highly recommend if in Whitley Bay. Further benefit of easy parking across the road whereas seemed trickier elsewhere...Cakes were AMAZING!! Lovely ambience. Price seemed good. Try it!

I have visited Darcies a number of times now with my Nanna who might I add swears by this place. They always treat her and her friend like royalty and always go the extra mile to make sure they are both happy! All of the food there is home cooked to perfection and tastes amazing. I’ve had the Yorkshire pudding wrap multiple times and it never disappoints potions are huge and good value for money. Lisa and the rest of the staff are lovely! There’s no doubt that she knows exactly what she is doing. I will happily be returning to Darcies and can’t wait to try the chicken nuggets my nanna raves about!

We asked for our fish to be well cooked as if it’s not we have found the batter near the fish to be uncooked, once again the batter was uncooked ( soggy) The chips were lukewarm not a great experience
