Booked a surprise 60th birthday for my friend in the conservatory and it was just amazing. From start to finish the staff were incredible. When we arrived to set up all the staff including kitchen staff where so happy to help (just wished I got names but everyone were AMAZING) Food was excellent, so much and such good value. My friend loved the afternoon as did all the guests, would definitely recommend for a private party. Sun was out and everyone spilled outside later into the afternoon, just the best for all the family. Thank you to the bar staff, kitchen chaps and the chef...we will return x

As a change we decided to cal into the pub for some lunch. It was quiet with 5 or 6 people already dinning. The menu is quiet large for a small pub with some variety, my wife ordered the Lams Liver, i went for the Cheese and Steak Sandwich. Its says they serve real ale, but in side no real ale available. Service was slow our order took over 25 minutes, when it was served both meals looked nice. My wife started to eat her liver and she noticed it didnt taste nice as if its been over cooked, my sandiwch was ok bit little greasy. The lady serving asked if everything was ok, my wife said the liver was not nice, she went away and the manager came over my wife explained the situation. She went and said she checked with the kitchen and then offered her a pudding as a replacement!! No offer of a refund, i finished what i had then we left! We wont be going back, the least they could have done was refund the my wifes main course

Not been here for a while as it has changed hands several times and rarely has a decent amber ale. Had heard some good reports about Sunday lunches so thought we'd give it a try. A lot of people in but the tables in the conservatory were too close together. Mince and dumplings were lovely but my wife's ham had a large piece of gristle and her lamb was fatty. Seemed to be constantly short of full range of meats and were slow in topping up the vegetables. Cauliflower cheese was excellent but turnip mash was lumpy and carrots undercooked. Doubt we'll be back.

Just back for the week after 6 months…looks like a lot has changed since my last visit. Where have all the staff gone? New faces everywhere, and dare I say miserable ones at that!! The blonde in her 40’s strutting about like she owned the place with the younger gent stuck to her side at the carvery. The original chefs are no longer there and the bar staff look to have been replaced? It was great to see Brian and Terry on my previous visits and have a bit of a chat, there is definitely something lacking now. It’s hard to see a once thriving business under Paul Trett go to pot, i've never seen people complain about their meals before and ask for refunds??? What on earth is happening? The whole place felt awkward and unorganised with the added “no atmosphere whats so ever”. This is such a shame, this was my favourite pub to visit on trips back to the North East, well it looks to be the Shire Horse or the Station for my next meals. My meal was just okay, nothing special and just warm (not hot like normal). They seriously need to up their game.I then popped into the Plough and an older lady who currently works at the Killingworth Arms had a lot to say about her boss! I’ll not go into what was said but who needs bar staff like this, no wonder its gone down hill. I think her name was Louise??Well anyway cant see me coming back but do hope this gets better in the future.

We havent been here for about 2 yrs so decided to stop for lunch. Extremely quiet when we arrived even though 12 30 on a Friday. As we are not a fan of caveries in particular since covid arrived, we ordered mince and dumplings off the main menu. When they arrived they were taken to the carvery area and the chef shouted to come and put out veg on. We went very reluctantly and didnt guess as by this time there were quite a few waiting to be served. The veg was lukewarm and unappetizing, the mince and dumpling was fine. We wont be returning again. We left through the conservatory and the sanitizer was empty. A once thriving place, now serving mediocre food. What a shame

Fantastic Pub it’s one of the best in the north east, it’s a classic and stereotypical British pub which I like about the establishment. Carvery is lovey on a Sunday with it being in the conservatory, good atmosphere in the pub with fantastic staff. The menu is is basic however the food is very tasty for a pud. I would go again during Christmas as it’s enjoyable. Highly recommend going.

This place used to do a lovely carvery. However, after my visit yesterday I won't be returning. My Dad had the lasagne, did not bring the garlic bread and the lasagne itself looked like ot had be reheated for about the 5th time. It was so dry and had no sauce at all. Had to send it back. My daughter had chicken nuggets which were pink inside and looked nothing a chicken nugget. The other 2 meals were carvery. Meat was extremely dry and tasteless and I cut into a raw stuffing ball, Yorkshire puddings were so tough. We asked for gluten free gravy, it looked like it had been served from a tin of dog food. WILL NOT RETURN. Such a shame.

My husband, friend and I have just enjoyed the best Sunday lunch we've had in a long time. The choice of 4 meats all perfectly cooked and very generously sliced were fab. Large Yorkshire puds perfect roasties and a good choice of vegetables all done just as we like them, not mushy. The chef was a hoot. Cracking jokes with patrons. He very kindly gave me a plate of meat scraps which my 4 dogs thoroughly enjoyed too. We over indulged and managed to force a delicious apple crumble and custard down too. The manageress did offer to wrap puds up for us to take home but we struggled on great food. Great staff. Well done.

My mother thought with it being a beautiful day she would have a much needed day out for lunch. This lovely day was soon ruined with the very unsympathetic, aggressive attitude believe it or not this was from the delightful manageress. My mother only trying to find out if her food was ready, as she had her grandchildren, my I add they are both disabled and display behaviours. My mother noticed a few individuals arriving after her were sitting eating their meals. The manageress offered her the money back or was told to just wait and sternly suggested that she should have said her grandkids were disabled. The manageress snapped at my mother "well we are trying to deal with COVID-19", hmmmm correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure we are all trying to deal with COVID-19.. I feel that this lady/manageress clearly needs to attend some sort of customer service course or better still just be kind. Treat others how you would like to be treat its as simple as that. if you can't deal with a public house with a handful of customers you are clearly in the wrong job. As my family finished there drinks and were leaving the establishment the manageress offered my nieces food to another table stating it was no longer needed and they can have it free of charge as she looked directly at my mother. I am highly upset that another individual could treat another human in this manner never mind my family. ABSOLUTELY DISCUSTING

Decided to treat 4 generations of family to a Saturday Lunch to celebrate combined birthdays and Mother’s Day. I chose the Killingworth Arms based on Trip advisor comments. There was 9 of us in the party ranging from 2 children aged 2 & 3, 7 adults, one disabled in a wheelchair and the 82 year old matriarch and all catered for in terms of access and seating, so a huge thank you to the staff for your welcome and your help. It makes a difference. Got to say this is a really good location and we had a brilliant gathering. The food is excellent value for money especially the Carvery. Only one complaint received about the Apple crumble. Recommend you reserve table as it gets busy which comes as no surprise.

My last ever visit to the Killingworth Arms. Arrived with family ordered drinks which included 2 glasses of wine and asked for a little ice in the wine glasses to be told they didn’t have ice? When does a public house not have ice? I could of understood if it was late at night but this was 3pm. Wine came out of the fridge it wasn’t even cold and the rose tasted very cheap considering how expensive it is. Very disappointing!

Me gusta aquí. There were six of us booked in for a family catch up meal. The food was terrible. This was a bit of a shock as in the past it has been very good. The chips were hard as rock, my husbands steak pie was sent back as he said the meat was not tender but hard inedible chunks of meat. My Sister-law who over many years has been a regular to this pub, told the waitress that her Hunters Chicken was the worst meal she'd ever had there. On a positive note my Son-in law said his Chicken Cesaer salad was lovely. After our complaints we were offered complimentary sweets but we declined. Probably won't return in the future.

We went yesterday for Sunday lunch, and my gosh it was dreadful. On arrival our table wasn’t ready, despite plenty of empty tables. The bar service was slow and only one person serving?! The barman then went on to catch a huge spider running across the bar, I mean I know that doesn’t mean it’s not clean but come on.The roast was absolutely awful. The veg was old and half cooked, and the beef- I couldn’t even cut it let alone chew it. Lots of people said the same. Totally gone downhill. Needless to say we didn’t stay for pudding!

Nunca me quejo para quejarme y nunca antes he enviado algo.

The carvery food was very nice, lots of meat and a good range of veg which was well cooked. However the pub itself didn't look or feel clean, the tables were sticky, place mats marked and old and the bar area was in desperate need of redecoration, new seating and carpets which was disappointing and off putting. We produced her bus pass but were turned down as this did not show her d.o.b which we thought was very petty and small minded after telling her that it was a free meal. What 88 year old has a driving license or carries her passport? We ordered our meals and 3 of us waited 40 minutes for them and had to ask where the food was. Two other meals were carvery and the meats were very dried out, veg soft, potatoes lumpy, swede was puree and gravy tasteless. I couldn't complain about the taste of the carvery, it was outstanding in every way, the fact its placed tightly behind a set of tables was off putting, was very cramped, and just too full to sit and relax, very hectic and not an ideal place to eat when places are just THAT busy.My partner had the mince and dumplings and she had about two mouthfuls of it and left the rest as the dumpling was doughy and under cooked, said it tasted like fish shop batter and the mince was under cooked also, i wont base the review on her thoughts, just to let people know to be wary.Would not visit again, pity because the staff are amazingly helpful too, reduce the table amount, please.

Been here a good few times for the carvery which is second to none, but this time we opted for something different from the menu & we were not disappointed!! Myself and my wife opted for the burgers, she had a chilli topped one & I had the one with bacon & cheese ( & an extra burger) our friends had the scampi, & mince & dumplings. It was busy so the waitress told us there'd be a 20 min wait as they were busy, which we didn't mind as at least she'd told us, (& my seat was positioned so I could see the champions league match on tv so I was happy) food came, was well presented, plates were full, burgers were fresh, ( possibly made on site) not frozen & you can taste a massive difference in them, bit salad, just enough BBQ sauce, bacon & cheese, loads of hand cut chips ( which again is an excellent touch I think, my friend also commented on this) was spot on!! The wife's was lovely as well with chilli on. Scampi was great & mince and dumplings were also a hit, 4 clean plates, only thing left was a few home made onion rings as there was a stack in a portion. Even squeezed a pudding in! Service was spot on, very reasonably priced in classic village pub surroundings, if you haven't been, I suggest you go as you'll not be disappoint, book before you go as well!

First of all I'd like to say that the place is gorgeous, the food is always amazing and the staff are very friendly. I'm writing this review just because of the stupid policy of not giving out a separate plate so a child can have something to eat.My nephew is autistic and will only eat carrots, mash and Yorkshire puddings when he's out for Sunday lunch. We clearly didn't think it was necessary to buy him a full child's Sunday lunch so asked for a tea-plate to put him some food on from our own food. I understand that some fools would try to pile their plates up with food so that they could feed their entire family with only one meal but my nephew is tiny (3) and was the only person without a carvery ticket. We were a party of four (five with my nephew) and we'd all paid for our carveries. To not give us a plate is terrible and we had to use napkins on a table to put him some food on because he needs 'his own food'. It was very degrading, not only for him, for all of us. For the sake of a plate for a tiny boy it really left us feeling upset. As I've mentioned, the staff are all lovely, the Sunday lunch is second to none and the place itself is well looked after with a lovely feel to it. This stupid policy has really ruined the place for me. My partner and I are often here for drinks and occasionally here for Sunday lunch with the family but this is the first time we've been with our nephew. I really feel like this is a spiteful policy. Kids under two can get a plate but my nephew is only weeks over three so clearly he's not going to eat the same as a seven or eight year old. I really hope they re-evaluate this policy.

We went for sunday lunch, the last time it was a rather odd option for the vegetarian choice which was cheese and onion pie with veggie gravy and the veg and mash etc from the carvery, I thought it was rather an odd thing to have with a sunday dinner so I thought I would just take it home for tea and had the veggies with gravy which was lovely, THIS time, The choice was Lasagne, again very odd, very late and with no gravy after asking twice, I did not eat the lasagne as it was undercooked and to be fair NOT a lasagne, under cooked large pieces of onion and very thick lasagne sheets, it was disgusting and I did not eat it, When the woman came to take my full plate away she was not going to ask if everything was ok so I mentioned I was not very nice at all expecting some sort of refund or apology, Instead nothing she came and went and continued to clean away tables , even watching as we left , Absolutely shocking service!! I will not be going back, you expect at least an apology or something off your next meal. The attitude and odd choices for vegetarian options is enough to stick to the shiremoor farm from now on!

Turned up on a Saturday night, waited 10 minutes for service, ordered drinks then was told that as I wasn't part of the mystery tour I couldn't be served. No effort to serve me thereafter. Really poor.

Just home from a 5.15pm visit to the carvery. Could not fault anything - the food was hot, meat (I had beef & pork) was tender and plentiful. It's not often you're given the chance of a second yorkshire pudding! For £6,45 it was great value. Highly recommended.

Been going to Killy Arms for 9 years & have to say it's the best served food I've ever had. Carvery is out this world with fresh veg & home cooked yorkie puds. Never been disappointed. Also has lovely friendly staff(Jenny) that's always willing to help.Cheers Killy Arms on your fantastic hard work

Been going to Killy arms on and off now for about 5 years, always good food as it was today, prices have gone up as they have everywhere so didn't mind paying just short of a tenner,BUT I do not like paying £4.85 for a tonic water and a small lime and lemonade,as a fellow bar owner I reckoned up how much I charge in my own pub, and it would have been £2.10 (£1.20 tonic and 90p for small lime and lemonade)I think they need to look at there pricing,as instead of heading to the Killy arms without thinking of anywhere else,I will be looking at all the other establishments that offer better value for money in the future.

I cannot praise this establishment enough. Not only did they accommodate a late booking, they also went out of their way to make my mother, a wheelchair user, feel comfortable and valued! The food was excellent with a varied choice, something for everyone, and the knickerbocker glory was divine. We will be back.

Went to the pub for a family Sunday lunch. Very cozy and friendly pub. The staff were great with both kids and adults. The Sunday lunch was very very nice, with plenty served. The kids enjoyed the outdoor play area which is easily viewable from the conservatory part of the restaurant. We have been back since and will continue to go back due to sheer quality and value for money.

Ate lunch today at The Killingworth Arms with my elderly Grandma who has visited a few times previously with my auntie, and has always raved about how lovely her meals have been each time so she was keen to take me! I was not disappointed with my food. I had the Mince and Dumplings which I'd describe as simply being a proper geordie mince dinner! So so lovely, real tasty home cooking. Great value for money and I feel like alot of love goes into all cooking here! The pub itself is cosy and comfortable enough, and each member of staff I met were all friendly and welcoming! I'll definitely return. Thanks!

First visit here, had lunch beautiful baguette served with a fresh salad and gorgeous chips,a lovely warm cosy pub varied menu plenty of choices for everyone reasonable prices as well.nicely decorated inside and out, one piece of constructive criticism however and the reason five stars not given is due to the fact that during our whole visit the barmaid/ waitress stood at the next table sorting cutlery throwing them from one metal basket to another !! Does this really need to be done in the customer area when people are eating? The racket was terrible such a shame she spoilt the whole ambience of the occasion.

Just had a lovely meal from the carvery and good value too. However the woman service us needs a few lessons in customer service. I felt like I was being treated like a resident in a poor care home that was being herded through the meal. Please tell your staff not to shout at customers no matter how elderly they may be or to get impatient because they have something better to do.

we visited the Killingworth Arms for lunch on 23rd November. we entered through a busy little bar with a good warm atmosphere.we were with family from Australia who were very impressed with the carvery.we bought the drinks at the bar then were seated immediately. no body wanted a starter, 3 of us decided on the carvery & 1 lasagne, we placed the order at he bar,we only waited a few minutes for the lasagne then we went to the carvery. a choice of 3 meats & more than enough choice of vegetables. all the food was very tasty & well cooked, the lasagne was ordered with chips however these were not needed as lasagne it's self was more than enough. the food was very reasonably priced with the cost for 4 being under £30.

After reading reviews we decided to give this pub a try. We checked the website to confirm opening times. Therefore, it was a disappointment that when we arrived, we were told that there was no food as they were having a conservatory fitted. We were offered free soup and sandwiches, and a £5 off voucher. Why not keep their website updated to avoid customer disappointment?

Character pub with large conservatory.Staff friendly. Happy hour drinks button. The fish and chips at a little under £10 was a disappointment. Not fresh white fish and batter rubbery. Mushy peas spread across the chips and strange bowl of garlic, not tartar sauce served with the meal... Other family members did seem to enjoy their tapas meals.

Hadn't been in years and heard it was lovely....and it certainly was. We ordered the double cheese burger and mince & dumplings. The mince was served and then you just helped yourself to veg from the carvery, so as much as you wanted. Mind the carvery looked pretty good too. The menu had loads to chose from. What I had a nose at from other tables it all looked nice and everyone seemed to be enjoying it. The only possible negative would be that its a little small so could easily fill up. Decor is very dated but food is that good it doesn't matter. Will definitely be going back and will hopefully have room next time to try the pudds

This is a lovely pub with a lovely atmosphere but the last visit we had one of our party had chicken on the carvry which he couldnt swallow as it was so dry we mentioned this to the waitress when she came to clear our table she could see the chicken was all left on the plate she appologised and said she would mention it but I think the £8.95 for that meal should have been refunded as it was not edable but nothing was done to compensate this bad meal

The waitress was very attentive and explained the menus, there is a great selection of homemade food for everyone. We had the summer saver meal - 3 courses for £11.50. The starter was ok, but the choices were mushroom heavy. The main course was great. I had the carvery, others in the party had other things and we all agreed the meals were excellent. The pudding was also very nice. The service was particularly good. We had 2 young children with us and they were very accommodating, including bringing my toddler a bowl of vegetables from the carvery. Nice outside play area too.We went on a Thursday and it was pretty busy. Glad we booked. Recommended.

Opted here for tea. Carvery was good however ordered steak and found it of poor quality, please and veg were just taken from the cavern and the chips were not up too much. Also had a chicken dish on our table and they chicken was very dry and overlooked.Place could do with a little tlc menus were dirty and tatty and the place was looking worn including the toilets with broken mirrors dirty pipes etc. Good for kids as they can play outside, good choice of drinks, service average.

We visited recently for Sunday lunch. We had pre booked but had to wait 15 minutes for our table to be ready. We were asked to wait in the bar area but as it was so busy there was no where to comfortably wait and ended up outside. The bar area was packed with only 1 member of staff serving and no seats. We were eventually seated in the restaurant area, although our table was extremely close to our neighbour. The staff serving the carvery was lovely and very friendly. There is a choice of meats, and then a choice of potatoes, veg and gravy. The food was lovely and hot. It was not left to stand which is good to see. It was all very flavoursome and we piled our plates full. We also had pudding which was waitress served. The puddings were a generous size and had the options of cream, ice cream or custard. Two courses for £11.50 was excellent value. They only take bookings for one the hour, so because our 2 pm sitting had gone in late we could see the 3 pm sitting all waiting in the bar for the tables to become available. We left at 3.30pm. Overall a bit busy and hectic but the staff were lovely and the food delicious and great value.

We have tried other places for Carvery and always return to" Killi Arms " , wonderful home cooked food, friendly staff and a great buzz around the place, for a small venue its always busy and buzzing with families eating and locals just having a drink and a catch up. Never felt out of place here (which can happen in some Village pubs) on one Sunday afternoon when we visited we decided to have a few drinks at the bar before food and must say a big Thank You to Marie who kept us a table and looked after us, been a few times during mid week too and the food and service again is always spot on overall a great family pub with Excellent food and lovely staff :-)

We had heard really nice things about this pub so we turned up without booking, we were told there was about a half hour wait which was no problem to us, it turned out to be about 10 mins, we paid for 2 courses as we were told this worked out a little bit cheaper. The Sunday lunch was really nice with plenty of choice of vegetable and meat, there was also a choice of mince and dumplings, everything was hot with plenty of meat put into our plate. For desert I had lemon meringue pie with cream which was lovely, my husband ordered the apple crumble and custard, he was a little bit disappointed with his as he said the crumble seemed to be very oaty this might have just been him so it has not put us off, overall a very pleasant little pub with great food and service I am sure we will return.

Came here a few times; tried both the carvery and the normal menu. The carvery is very good for the price. The food on the menu is average and sell a good variety of food. I did have the steak and ale pie once and I wasn't keen on the pie lid. I have also tried the beef baguette and the beef was very dry and the baguette. However, the mince and dumplings and chips are very nice.

I have visited Darcies a number of times now with my Nanna who might I add swears by this place. They always treat her and her friend like royalty and always go the extra mile to make sure they are both happy! All of the food there is home cooked to perfection and tastes amazing. I’ve had the Yorkshire pudding wrap multiple times and it never disappoints potions are huge and good value for money. Lisa and the rest of the staff are lovely! There’s no doubt that she knows exactly what she is doing. I will happily be returning to Darcies and can’t wait to try the chicken nuggets my nanna raves about!

We stopped in here instead of opting to eat on the Newcastle-Amsterdam ferry. Brilliant move as the fish and chips (cod) were outstanding. I'm a bit picky about fish and chips in general as we get very fresh fish over on the West Coast of Scotland. Longsands massively delivered as the fish was really fresh and the chips excellent. Food was on the table very promptly and the serving staff were super friendly and helpful. Not the cheapest perhaps but for such quality it is a no brainer. Also opted for the curry sauce which was also excellent. Would definitely do this again prior to paying £25 each on the ferry for very medicore food. The bill for 4 of us was only £65 at Longsands!!!
