Shop is now run by volunteers. Stock has greatly improved since opening in November 2017. If you request for something to be stocked, if possible it is done. Fresh bread delivered 3 times a week is excellent. Good quality Ham, local Eggs fresh Coffe and Castle Hedingham Cards showing places of interest and Architecture in the Village. People enjoy going in for a chat.

I love the village shop! It has some amazing bits and bobs! From drink, local food, art work, mugs and gifts. It really has some amazing pieces within. A must to visit if you are in the area. Easy to park out side on the road and friendly locals too!

It's great to still have a village shop in such a small village. The shopkeeper is quite a character which is also a good thing!

I feel very lucky to live within walking distance of this little gem. My weekend treat is to spend some time browsing whilst sipping one of the excellent coffees then take freshly baked croissants home for breakfast. I love that I can get stuff in there from smaller, specialist producers and which isn't available in the big supermarkets, like The Truckle Company chutneys. The Cook ready meals are delicious too. It is also a fabulous gift shop - Sophie Conran table ware, stunning sculptures, country style cards and wrapping paper. I work really long hours and don't have time to go Christmas shopping so did nearly all of mine last year in the village shop. I can also pop over and get something last minute for forgotten birthdays.

Has most things you need when you have run-out or do not want to do a big supermarket shop. It really is very much a local community convenience store. Parking is very limited

Only poped in to purchase a packet of crisps but the assistant did not even stop using her mobile phone to serve us and take our money which consequently ended up being dropped on the counter, which we found quite rude. Very expensive as well.

I have not been here for a little while (a couple of years+). Noted a sign saying coffee, called in, wounderful coffee, partries and rolls all freshly backed. The most delicious and varied foods, some I had thought had disapeared. Helpful young lady and knowledgable, a luck village to have this wounderful emporium.

The village shop has gone upmarket.Very friendly staff but not forthe feint hearted.Breadis freshly made but at a price. We waited 15 minutes while the customers formed a Queue,,,,!,, Get in early or all the Sunday papers are gone.We feel we need to support it but it does need to be more commercially focused.

Great little shop for croissants and pastries plus artisan breads and a coffee takeout. So lovely to come across a place like this in the village. If you are visiting the castle ad want something in passing it is good to go to.

How can you make up one hundred words about something which has closed early on a sweltering summer afternoon... In fact most of Castle Headingham was closed on the sunny summer afternoon - Perhaps they were all sitting snug at home watching Wimbledon...?

Very expensive for a shop in a small village. £1.60 for a medium bag of crisps. They do sell readymade meals which are nice and nice homemade bread, but this is also very expensive.

I have to say that this is one of the most expensive village stores I know. I have lived in the village and neighbouring village all my life and have to say it should offer more everyday foods and groceries at everyday prices.I'm all for home made bread but we all know it doesn't cost a lot to bake a loaf.I now get in my car or walk to the neighbouring village to get my every day essentials of bread milk eggs loo roll etc the most I use that shop for now is a paper or a sweet treat. It could use its space to make so much more of a proper village shop

Great to have this facility but can the proprietor please give some thought to having more main-stream products i.e. cheaper. If so I would buy more!

This is what it says on the tin - a village grocery; but they do hot and cold snacks and excellent coffee, which you can take at a counter with stools overlooking the pleasant main street of this most English of little towns, or at a table outside. Run by a most enthusiastic proprietress with all sorts of English speciality groceries surrounding you and local produce of all kinds. A delightful shop, with properly strong coffee and fresh pastries and rolls.Thoroughly recommended, and it deserves to succeed.

I will start this long and concise review by stating I've been in the hospitality industry. We came here pre booked as a table of 9, including 3 children at 3 pm on a Sunday. This was for my mother in laws birthday. Now the reason I say this time is because by now the kitchen had run out of several key components of their roasts and other main menu items such as beef and mashed potatoes. This considering the place was completely dead at this time. Why is the kind of chef that can not ensure they have ordered in and prepared these items that are vital components should wander down to McDonald's where someone with more experience will handle that for you whilst you're flipping burgers. Most of the remaining menu items are just thrust into the microwave or deep-fried without soul or care. Our starters took a full 50 minutes to be served, we had enquired earlier why it was taking so long as the kitchen had no other orders to prepare and was informed they were just being plated up. Still took another 20 minutes to produce these 5 starters! I'd chosen the salt and pepper squid that contained neither salt nor pepper! Bland would be an understatement. The rest of the meal was no less a long awaiting for poorly presented mess. It's clear the chef has no passion for food, and I'm certain wears a plaster on his microwave finger from overuse. The food was bland, overcooked, and under prepaired. The lamb Shank looked as if half the meat was missing, the hunters chicken was overcooked and dried out, and the beef bourguignon had no red wine, making it a tiny piece of beef stew. The list of disappointed meals went on. I can honestly say this is the single most disappointing meal I've had the misfortune of being served (eventually). I will not return and would recommend others avoid.

Covid safe and clean. Was a pleasant day so could sit on their outside patio area. Had a bacon sandwich, friends had cake. Bread was dry and I wish places would use proper butter, not some spread. Even with bacon you could still taste it... Service very friendly and pleasant.
