Standard Costa Coffee, although it was nearly empty. At one point there were more staff than customers. Service was very fast!

Adriana was just spot on from when i entered the coffee shop till she handed me the coffee and greet me a good day! Such a valuable team member you’ve got here. Traveling the country up and down with my job i have been in many coffee places and seen many people. Adriana is one of the rarest gold stars employee. You cak change someones day with just a little bit of care and a big nice round smile 👍👍

It was a quick service - just another Costa environment, too noisy. Their coffee isn't strong doesn't feel like drinking a coffee but more like hot milk :). Cleanliness is an issue as feels a bit dated - staff are friendly and working hard.

Nice place set on the main road. Noisy coffee machines so hard to hear when trying to talk to friends, so advise you to sit as far away as possible. Was hard to find parking but managed it as it was a Sunday. Would go again if I needed to meet a friend in the area.

Extremely poor service and incompetent staff. Member of staff put my latte on a tray, stirred it with spoon( while glass was on a tray), put a spoon next to it, spilling a drink and making a mess and didn’t even notice it.

This is not even worth a star! The place is absolutely filthy. No-one cleaning tables; windows are filthy! Toilets are disgusting Behind the counter lacks cleanliness The floor is grubby

Despite a recent refurbishment the cleanliness and hygiene was a disgrace! No clean tables inside or out, filthy floor covers in food, overflowing bins and filthy work surfaces behind the counter! Added to this I was told I couldn’t have a proper cup! What is is coming too ! This is supposed to be a premium brand but we would have been better making a flask of coffee and taking it the park!

This is the worst Costa I have ever been to. The staff are incompetent, ask you to repeat your order 3 times then bring you the wrong thing. Constantly given a takeaway cup to save them washing up although I always say I’m eating in! Half the restaurant is usually closed to save them cleaning & tables are usually dirty and still have the last persons’ dishes on them. Truly not worth any money for this experience. Staff also love smoking outside & chatting to customers for ages while things pile up inside. A disgrace to the chain really.

Updated review: Still awful. I spent £3 odd quid on a coffee which was made incorrectly and given in a take out cup, even though I wasn't asked if I wanted to have in or out. I threw it directly in the bin. Next time I will save time queuing and just put the £3 in the bin

If you like dirty tables, dirty floors and seats then this please is for you. Every time I come into this coffee shop most if not all the tables are never cleared. This will be the last time I visit here as no improvements from either times I visited. Not the cleanest of places, very poor for a costa coffee shop. Also way to many flies flying about, please invest in a fly trap!!

Bored, disinterested, unhelpful staff. Miserable selection of food and the majority of cold drinks unavailable on one of the hottest days of the year. Walked out in disgust.

When I first came here the tables and everything was unclean and messy but now there is a young lady who has coached her staff to get everything done now everything is clean and sometimes they even do table service! I will definitely make this place a usual !

Oh dear, a bit but shame to give this particular Costa a 1 star but sadly it was well deserved. This is purely and simply down to cleanliness or the lack of it. We went it as a family of 4 and sat at a table. This table was still dirty and had not been wiped down nor sanitised either. Looking around there was in fact 9 tables all with dirty cups on, that's, food waste etc. Now in the current climate this is not acceptable at all. There was no queue and no excuse other than staff laziness. It was a full 15 minutes later a lad appeared from the backstage area and slowly cleared away without purpose or enthusiasm either. It is very clear that this particular branch is NOT covid safe and I would actively say that anyone that is at high risk etc to avoid stopping off here. The management really needs to get this particular ship knocked into shape As another quibble why do you not offer filter coffee like pretty much every other branch.

One member of staff was rude and the toilets... well they need a cleaner!!

Bit noisy when we were there. Sometimes felt I (and everyone there) needed to speak loudly to be heard. Coffee was good though!!!

Staff seem rushed and rarely get your order 100% , when asking for extra hot drinks it usually comes as luke warm

The visit in its self was great.. only critism.. when you need to see in to see if it's safe to go inside.. there's so many posters on door it's impossible.. then you get told off for opening door as too many ppl 🤦‍♀️. But service is great and staff too

Very nice for a quick cup of tea. Staff pleasant asked for some more hot water, and they said will bring it over to you. Been treated a lot worse in so called pusher places!

I go here at least 3 times a week to study. The atmosphere is lovely. The staff and very accommodating and friendly! They are always ready to have a conversation! I would definitely recommend!

Update. As summer is on the way. Some frostinos were a welcome treat. Good covid measures in place too

I have very little to say positive about this place. Not impressed at all after paying my hard earn money I don't feel like I am given any care of hospitality. This shop should operate more like a takeaway coffee shop like the ones we see on train station so you don't walk in thinking or having an expectation that you will have quality time with your loved ones. Nothing exciting and no care by the management which totally reflect from dated and disgusting furniture and carpets, totally awful. The coffee barista is nice but hard to strike any conversation as they are stretched to work with little staff sometime only one person to handle the entire shop....this is how multi billion company treat their customers and staff...let alone how much they care about us who actually pay for our coffee or cakes....I will certainly avoid going to this shop again!!!

My family lives in Halstead but we met here after many months. I like going out to coffee shops and this particular one is not very clean, old carpet with lots of stain, toilet stink no ventilation awful and disgusted with the lack of cleanliness. The table was not even clean and dishes are left we had to clean tables ourself to make some room when we had our food picked up. I would not recommend anyone to go there only go if you have no other option left. Halstead is not very buzzing town but Costa being multi billion company should look after there store....

A friend and I went for a catch up coffee, before Xmas the place was very busy, but no one was cleaning tables and there was no where to sit, unless you cleared the table yourself, which is not what the customers should be doing.

Second visit in as many weeks and once again disappointed. Luke warm weak coffee, tables a mess, cups plates etc all over the tables. Not sure on cleanliness of work station. What’s going on. Get more staff in your busy times please.

Not the best Costa I have visited. The service was slow and it all seemed a bit unorganised. It took a long while to get our drinks despite no one being in the queue in front of us! The appearance of the shop seemed a bit messy and tables needed to be cleaned. Having said that, staff were very friendly though which was appreciated and they did apologise for the long waiting times.

Nice place to go for a coffee but lots of the seating this evening was sectioned off/ not available, and tables were slow to be cleared by staff. Nice hot chocolate though!

Dirty cups and plates on every table no trays to put our food on had to go get one off one of the tables when spoke to the people behind the desk they said they was short staffed never been anywhere like it they needed to stop serving for 5 mins and clear everything away so customers could sit at a clean table

The staff are friendly and drinks are nice but they are always understaffed and the seating area is always dirty and full with trays of cups.

I know good coffee can't be made instantly but it always takes longer at Costa and it always seems that one person is serving whilst one or more others are standing about doing nothing while customers queue. Makes grabbing a quick coffee between meetings impossible.

Dirty floor. Dirty tables. Inexperienced, slow staff. There are several much more committed and competent cafés within 5 minutes walk.

A small group of us quite often sit outside with our coffee watching the world go by. The Coffee isn't bad either.

Popped in for a coffee and snack whilst shopping with our dog, therefore had to sit outside. Tables outside crammed together and we frequently got in the way of the doorway. Wait incredibly long with such limited snacks availability we just had a drink. My teapot was absolutely filthy - it had clearly not been washed underneath and there were unappetising tea streaks on the outside of the pot. Came across like a low-quality greasy-spoon approach. Will not be going back. We're regulars at Costas elsewhere but this was unacceptable customer service.

Lovely, dedicated staff who help with what ever you want. Clam and collected atmosphere. Great coffee and side selections. Plenty of space to sit or get work done. Overall a lovely place.

Being a regular customer, I was very disappointed with the service on Saturday 24th August 2019. Only 2 staff in there at the time of my visit(12.40pm),and it was the 1st day for 1 of them.

Why when I use any Costa, not just the Halstead branch are the tea cups and tea pots always so filthy?

Tables and area are always clean, quality of products always very high and the baristas are very helpful and friendly, even the baristas in training are very helpful, quick and kind.
