Covid safe and clean. Was a pleasant day so could sit on their outside patio area. Had a bacon sandwich, friends had cake. Bread was dry and I wish places would use proper butter, not some spread. Even with bacon you could still taste it... Service very friendly and pleasant.

Firstly, in other 1 star reviews on here the owners of this cafe state that the establishment has ceased trading, so just to preempt that nonsense I can assure you they are very much open...On another review on here the owner threatens a reviewers reputation...nasty...check how defensive their replies are to some of the reviews below...Gordon Ramsay would have a field day...And now for my experience...Welcome ladies and gents to ‘greenstead green barn cafe’ where dreams are crushed with over priced hospital food and terrible, weak, stingy latte’s (I’m sure the cakes are nice tho ;) )On first impression my date and I were impressed. The interior was full of character and the waitress smiley and friendly, but then came the food. May ordered a jacket potato with cheese with a promise of a crusty potato skin. What arrived was a soft skinned spud with a stingy ‘sprinkling’ of cheese on top and a side salad. I ordered a jacket with chilli con carne. What arrived was a spud with a smattering of ‘beef worms’ slavered over the top. Extremely unappetising (see photos) Basically the minced beef hadn’t been ground up and infused into a chilli sauce. Instead it occurred to me that the beef had most likely been lazily dumped into the pan and was undercooked....but that wasn’t the worst of it...The lovely waitress asked how the food was (the only plus) May and I told her it was poor. She then grabbed the owner who was simply desperate to justify herself and play the victim. After telling her about our experience she ran off to grab an old crusty spud she’d baked earlier, and slapped it on our table along with a childlike justification...’see, I baked this a while ago, I take pride in my jackets so I didn’t use this one!’ (Apparently we were supposed to be thankful for that??) Ironically that spud looked better than the jackets we were given! When I went to speak the defensive owner yelled, ‘let me talk! I’m the owner’ desperate to justify herself about her terrible food. It got worse but I’ll spare you the full narrative....AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

This barn cafe, which is in a rural location, is good for a mid-morning coffee and cake when out walking, as we were. There is a good network of local footpaths in the vicinity. The premises are neat and tidy and well-presented and we were made welcome by the friendly staff. We each had a coffee and piece of cake chosen from a good selection on offer. The premises are interesting. It is in a former agricultural barn and in addition to the café includes a farm shop, post office and shop selling gift items and dresses. We have called in previously and are sure to return when next walking in this location.

Fortunately we had reserved a table for 7 as the cafe was extremely busy. Parking took a few minutes as we needed to wait for a space. Our food took quite a while to be served as they were very busy, but the menus were confusing. The crustless tart ordered by 2 in our party was actually the same as the tart of the day as it came with crusts and chips! Despite this, we enjoyed our meal. There were some gluten free options available, all standard fare including chilli with baked potato for our coeliac. The waitress explained that they’d run out of jacket potatoes so they cooked rice instead.

My daughter booked a table for Sunday lunch yesterday as a treat for my granddaughter before she returned to Uni. The table she had booked was already occupied so we were squeezed in to another table. Drinks ordered and delivered, then 15 minutes later a further drinks order was offered, obvious lack of communication between staff. After an hour waiting for our meal we gave up having been told there were still 2 orders to be delivered ahead of ours. Obvious system failure.

As the barn had changed hands in March, the manager refused to accept the voucher. She has recently been treated for cancer and has been unwell and she told them that she had been unwell and unable to come any sooner. No empathy or understanding from the manger and he walked away. The young girl at the till was very embarrassed and apologised, not her fault. We left and we are absolutely disgusted with his attitude. Never will we go there again . Went here with friends for a Christmas lunch today and was a little disappointed. Chose this venue as we have been here a few months ago and location was suitable for us all. We all decided on the 2 course as we thought for a lunch it was a little on the expensive side at £27.50 for 3 courses and as the menu said coffee and mince pies included that would be sufficient. On arrival having pre booked and pre ordered as requested it was apparent we were the only booking. We had to place our order again as they couldnt find our details and it was quite a wait for our starters. The food was okay nothing special, mains of turkey dinner was covered in gravy which we would have preferred to have served ourselves. Had to ask for cranberry sauce no bread sauce and the pig in blanket was well different. The finale was the coffee and mince pie not a normal size one but a mini mini mince pie! An interesting lunch but I don't think we will be rushing back any time soon.

Food ordering at the counter was a little slow but the staff were helpful. Beautiful barn. Post office, small food shop and second hand children's shop across the courtyard. We visited this place at the weekend, this place needs new management (or maybe I should say some management) otherwise it wont last much longer. I am sorry to be so harsh but the staff looked like they have no drive. No one can be bothered. We waited for 50 minutes for dinner even though we had booked. The food when it arrived was stone cold. Fortunately one of our party ordered additional gravy and this was piping hot and managed to warm the meal. The potatoes and the meat were lovely, but let down by the temperature and the cheap frozen vegetables. No one was clearing plates throughout the time we were there. Tables were just left. Not the sort of thing you want to see when you are having your Sunday dinner. Didn't look like any one was in charge, when waitresses walked back to the kitchen they went back empty handed. If I was the their boss they would have been given their marching orders for that one. This is an honest and truthful review. Its meant to be constructive because honestly I love the place believe it or not. But the service is shocking. Annoyingly for me it was my recommendations that we all went there.

We booked a table for Sunday lunch but we were very disappointed.. We had been there in the past and the cakes are quite good, so we thought the meals may be the same.. We waited nearly an hour for our dinner while other people arrived after us and were served before us.. We had seen other peoples dinners which had cauliflower cheese and a good selection of veg including carrots.. I specifically asked for the gravy to be served separately, but when the meal arrived it had been poured over it.. The waitress said, oh sorry I did tell her' and walked off.. Our dinners were nearly cold, we had just a few veg, which looked very apparent as being the frozen variety.. Mini sweet corns and peas, one tiny yorkshire pudding which was the nicest thing on the plate, and the gravy was the instant type and still had undissolved lumps in it.. Overall the meal was very disappointing and when I asked if I could please have some cauliflower cheese and carrots like everybody else, the waitress just said 'we don't have any left, these are the last meals' !! Despite the fact that we had booked especially as we had relatives visiting.. When we ordered dessert after the main meal, this was brought to us and put on the table while all the dinner plates were all just left there..It was actually quite unbelievable.. I have never seen anything quite like it.. What a shame!

Went to the new Bistro last night, called Grants, and had the three course menu for £23. the food was excellent and such fantastic value for money. the choice was not massive about 5 options for each course, with vegetarian options.I understand the menu changes every week depending on what is in season. The service was also excellent, right from being greeted at the door to fast, efficient service right through the meal, At the end of the meal the chef came round and spoke to customers to ensure everything was perfect, which it was. .Its only been opened a month and hasn't been widely advertised as the chef/owner wants to grow his business slowly so he can keep the quality of food and service. Had breakfast there, one piece of cheap bread!! Dreadful coffee and cheap tasting sausages... I'd pay more for better quality... the changes that could make the food lovely are so easy. The coffee was disgusting, you have an expensive coffee machine, change the setting to stronger, the coffee is so weak it's not worth drinking. As for the decaf is was literally brown water. The breakfasts... ONE PIECE OF CHEAP BREAD just isn't good enough. Make your own or serve nice granary bread.... for some reason this really annoyed me! The sausages were so poor! Serve better ones simple as that. And worst of all is the serving/ queueing system you have, of you are a restaurant/cafe... start behaving like one! Every time I've been there and there is more than 5 or six customers everything collapses and the waiting times go up to 30 mins for a cup of coffee (actually happened) get training a working system and competent staff!!!Like my title suggests, you have a captive audience of people that will return... please do better! I felt compelled to write a review after the superb experience I had today at my son's 4th birthday party hosted by 'Tiggy's Barn' part of the Greenstead Farm offering. Pre-party organisation was excellent with great communication throughout and always friendly and flexible to our party needs. Come the day, there was no doubt we just had to turn up and enjoy the experience as we were in good hands. The Tiggy's experience was such great fun. Despite January UK weather which saw torrential rain and winter sun within the same half-hour, we were sheltered and enjoying animal feeds, a chicken treasure hunt and firm farm favourite - bunny cuddles. With plenty of attentive Tiggy's helpers on hand and led by out friendly farmer host this was a delightful experience for adult and child alike. I loved that the birthday boy always got VIP treatment. Next up was child feeding, which took place in the gorgeous barn setting of the main Greenstead farm shop and cafe. We had our party table, decorated and lovely little packed lunches were distributed to hungry guests. Whilst the kids munched the adults enjoyed their own treats from the cafe and warmed themselves in front of the welcoming wood burner. Plenty of locally sourced goodies available and service was always with a smile and courteous. After tea there was a well equipped play area which the kids retired to, adults still happy and relaxed chatting with kids in plain view. I can't praise the Greenstead team enough and heartfelt thanks to Maria and Jason for delivering such an excellent experience.

Went there for a light lunch. Started off badly as we found it difficult to locate the entrance into the bar barn. We both ordered Welsh Rarebit and when it arrived it was nothing more than an anemic runny mess layered over an onion chutney on a half of a ciabatta - it was tasteless and looked most unappetising. For this they were charging £6.50p. We had a drink; my wife chose a red wine. This was served in a small screw top bottle and just labelled as a French red fruity wine - they charged £6.50p for this and my wife commented it was tasteless. I had a bottle of a local brewery pale ale and they charged a London West End price of £6.10p for this bottle. Overall not a venue I would recommend it was extremely disappointing.

After checking on the Website that breakfast is served until 11am, We made a special trip this morning to have a family Breakfast. Our special trip turned out to be wasted as I quote " sorry, the chef has cooked enough breakfasts this morning and does not want to cook anymore". It was 10.50am and the only other people in the cafe had finished their food. I could have understood if the place was packed but it wasn't. Left very disappointed having wasted a 45 minute round trip. It's a shame as the setting would be perfect for my wife to take the children for coffee and cake during the week, but not with that kind of service....maybe that's why it was empty this morning.

I stumbled upon greenstead farm whilst holidaying with my wife. After a six mile bike ride we found ourselves rather peckish so decided to stop for a bite to eat. We had two cheese and bacon turnovers (splendid cheese) with coffee and along with excellent service, the old oak beams were a delight. Bliss!!

As a family we love coming to this farmshop, there is so much on offer for the children, and the food and welcome are excellent. My two girls are always nagging me to take them there for lunch so they can go on the wooden swing/slide set and trampoline in the garden. There is also a secure play area for young children inside which I wish had been open when my two were little as I was always looking for somewhere safe where they could amuse themselves while i had a coffee and bit of a break while keeping a close eye on them - this is the perfect place for tired mums! And there is the excellent animal petting zoo next door. The food is great, and so reasonably priced, the staff are always friendly and accommodating. I'm honestly puzzled by the few poor reviews on here, i would be interested to see how they review other places!

I was surprised to read some bad reviews on this lovely barn with its cafe, childrens play area, and Tiggys farm.I take my 19mth old grandaughter there on a fairly regular basis and have never been disappointed.Occasionally you have to wait a little while for the food to come out, but that is only when they are really busy; and i've always found the food to be good and freshly made.Choice of food for babies/ children is very well thought out; my grandaughter loves the ' healthy bite plate' and at about £3 not too expensive, or the homemade fish gougons & veg sticks.Personnally, i,ve always found the service has always been friendly and efficient

Had seen some iffy reviews recently so was skeptical but risked it whilst passing over the last few days and can honestly say these were pleasantly proved wrong. Lovely little cafe. Staff were friendly and paid us a lot of attention despite having a large queue of people when we arrived. Food reached us at a reasonable pace and was thoroughly enjoyable. Great place for my four year old who also had plenty to do! We will definitely be back!!!

Arrived at 3pm, no greeting, just a cold response to can we order food. In that the answer was No, food stopped at 2:30, we could have drinks & cakes - which is fair enough. After 10minutes sitting in an empty cafe no one took our order so we politely asked. The waitress did not write down our order. And told us there were cherry scones on offer, 5 minutes later we were told only plain or cheese scones were availiable.10minutes later our order came, the camomile tea I ordered was breakfast tea. With no waitress in sight, I put up with it.We ordered a second drink which took 15 minutes to arrive, despite the cafe being empty. Our table was not cleared in the 1 hour and 15 minutes we were there. The experience was not a very good one at all. I felt unwelcome & no customer focus at all. No hello, No goodbye - Not even taking our order! Unfortunately we made a special trip to this cafe and we were left dissapointed.

Sadly, a really poor experience.Long time waiting for two overpriced bland meals.Told the owner we weren't happy - and she just said 'all portions are costed' (no apology and really rude attitude. Example of one meal - £7 for two slices of bread with a stingy filling of cheese (bland mild cheddar) and tasteless pickle. Few leaves on the side with no dressing.Avoid this place - plenty of other nice places around

Visited with my daughter, 4 yr old grandson and 8 month old grandaughter. Visited Babs farm, £3 per person, free for pushchair baby, fed the animals and petted them. Lovely staff who were great with children and animals, then went to cafe, Grandson had fun in play area [£2 free ,for U 9mths], whilst we could sit right next to it and interact with him. Good coffee to peruse menu. Yes service is not speedy but it is very personable and appreciated fresh coffee being brought to tables when we had a handful of bags and buggies. We were not in a hurry and it was not what you could call slow. There was only 1 lady on the counter and waiting on yet she was equally pleasant with the steady stream of people coming in. She made an effort to make some conversation and smiled it makes all the difference . Very good children's menu for babies and little ones . High chairs available too. We had a vegetable tagine and cous cous whilst grandson polished off his good quality sausage, mash and peas with his favourite gravy. Nice touch to have special cutlery for children. Baby devoured her bread sticks and hummus . Large brownie was shared , well G son had 3/4 and rated it lubberly, other cakes looked great but I am following a healthy eating plan! Tea and coffee ,then out to play on slide trampoline and tractor. In the summer there are nice tables and chairs on a patio. Home made takeaway savouries are available in the Post Office bit of the shop and a few nice gifts and cards . Ended the visit by going in the second hand baby and children's clothes shop. Really good stock and excellent quality plus some quality new toys for sale. Already recommended to several friends, just check opening times of farm if want to see animals.

Food was excellent, and the cakes looked fantastic, there must have been about 10 different ones to choose from and apparently all made on the premises. The play area was good for our little one, but there is also a lovely garden with trampoline and swing/slide for older children. Was also surprised to find a building selling really good quality secondhand baby/children's cloths and equipment. There was also a petting farm, although we didn't visit this.Really good for a visit for young and old alike. Will defiantly return.

We found that Greenstead farm is a lovely venue in a stunning building and setting, nestled quietly in the country with sounds of the farmyard and a lovely garden which is safe for children and dogs. The food is brilliant here, not drive through junk if that's what you want, but all freshly cooked and you can tell it is all made from scratch. The cakes are wonderful, all fresh and a brilliant array to choose from, you can even be naughty and take pieces home! The children's play area allows parents to join their children for quality time, children can socialise with other kids and then have lunch and drinks after!the post office is an added bonus. Wonderful destination definitely worth a visit :)

Been a few times for breakfast, coffee and a sandwich. It just gives the impression of grabbing money off you for anything and everything. The breakfast was genuinely terrible, bacon had been previously cooked and warmed up, toast was cold and the sausages were poor quality, but they are happy to flog you quality sausages in the shop for stupid prices ?The prices are very high, service is average and food is really poor for the price and lacks imagination. The latest money spinner is selling you the opportunity to stick your kids in a pen in the corner of the restaurant for £2.00 a go. The issue is that the noise is so loud that you can no longer just go for coffee and a chat.If they could charge you for the oxygen used, they would.its a shame really as its a great building and a great location !

Once upon a time there was a farm shop and restaurant. It was a bright and sunny land with happy smiling people eating their fill from a homely and tasty menu. Families filled the air with laughter as parents tucked into imaginative sandwiches and lovely salads, as their rosy-faced children played in the garden. Jacket spuds overflowing with scrumptious fillings and delicious soups with thick chunky bread, cakes and gateaux tempted people from far and wide. But then a wicked and mischievous spirit descended on the land and took away the tasty fayre that everyone loved. Instead the fairy substituted posh food. Pheasant took the place of fresh salad, tagine replaced tomato soup. And with high end prices to match the high end food, the townsfolk were saddened as they watched the darkness descend across the land. Where once it was hard to get a seat at busy times, now there are plenty to be found, so now the folk wait and hope for a shining knight to arrive and restore order and return it took a place where ordinary mortals can again drop in for a quick, tasty and inexpensive meal.

Avoid this high priced emporium if you can.We arrived for a Sunday lunch. Pretty simple, booked and arrived in good time. Nevertheless, café had run out of meat on a minimal menu. We opted for beef, as lamb was 'off', and waiting a considerable 35 minutes to receive basic boiled vegetables and meet tough and grisly and fatty, my knife would not go through it.Being British it is hard to complain, however, I did mention it to the waitress as I was paying, who grinned and seemed to find it amusing. This meal did not meet any reasonable expectation of a pleasant Sunday lunch. As a keen supporter of artisan and Farm produce I am greviously disappointed at my experience in this shop. The Staff seemed oblivious to the poor service and quality of produce, did not ask at any time if the meal was agreeable, and grinned at my comments. Not good.Avoid if you can!!

We went on a Friday late lunchtime, lasagne and quiches on the specials, took us a while to find a menu. Ordered at the counter, pleasant staff, and sat outside waiting for our order. After 30mins my friend went in, asking how long it would be as we were time limited. They found our order ticket still at the counter, it hadn't made it to the kitchen. Owing to time constraints we had to change our order to sandwiches and the food portion of our bill (which we had already paid) was refunded. The sandwiches were very nice, bread not too thick, lots of filling and served with a fresh side salad and cup of crisps. The chef brought them out to us and apologised personally. I don't think this mistake happens often and it was dealt with very well. We will be going back.

I really don't know who this place thinks it is!The lunch type food is decidedly average at best yet they charge harrods prices! This place has no idea if it's a shop/post office/cafe or grocery? Why not just do one well, rather than all badly? The items in the shop are so tacky and twee at such eye watering prices it's actually worth a visit for the laugh at a £25 egg cup or the £45 candle. It's clean and warm however and the coffee is nice, better places around the area though.

Last year we had a lovely Sunday lunch at Greenstead farm shop café,last Sundays experience was something else! My Mothers beef was so tough it was inedible, you could have soled shoes with it.The young waitress was not the least concerned when I asked to take it away and bring some pork which I was having and was fairly acceptable.Fifteen minutes later the replacement pork still hadn't appeared. Our meals were now cold waiting for my mothers pork. When asked where the pork was we wre told it was been heated up.I said surely you had a pork joint from which you carved slices.Yes was the answer but it has to be heated up.Reheating already cooked pork!!! Of course we wanted fresh veg as they were now cold and my dinner was taken away for reheating.the waitress was quite surprised we had waited to resume our meal with my mother,"oh you wanted to eat together" was her comment. My mothers meal wasn't all that warm when it arrived and we ate a little then gave up. the gloss had beentaken off what was intended as a nice lunch out. After complaining one meals price was taken off the bill but I would advise anyone not to bother at Greenstead Green.

There are many good farm shops locally, but Greenstead Farm shop has to be the worst. Long-life bread isn't artisanal and this was no more a farm shop than my Tesco local. The meagre stock of eggs, jars of preserves, a few baskets of oranges (now they're hardly local) and some vegetable stragglers – too few to make up a useful purchase – were a real disappointment and don’t constitute a ‘farm’ shop.On approach to the village of Greenstead Green notices announce a new chef and new menu at Greenstead Farm, but that in itself doesn't guarantee good or even better! The village has nothing else to offer visitors so a trip here is needless. Our little one was hankering for food and to stave off our disappointment we thought that we would eat ourselves happy and try the new fayre. We liaised with staff over where to sit before being seated at a table, the log burner nearby pumped out some welcome heat whilst the view of a corrugated iron wall was less appealing. We waited for at least 15 minutes before our table was cleared of the previous occupants dishes, but the food would surely make all this worthwhile. My wife placed our order at the counter and was astonished and upset by the attitude of the supervisor who had zero customer service skills, and had demanded that she would need the table back in just over half and hour and blamed her colleagues for their seating arrangements. If together they can’t manage ten tables, how would they manage service of additional outdoor tables in the warmer months, the mind boggles. After a considerable wait of a further 15 minutes for hot ciabatta open sandwiches and a portion of chips, the plates arrived. The ciabatta portions were tiny, literally comprising of two miniscule pieces of cold salt beef and predominately fatty tissue at that, sitting aloft two very small wedges of ciabatta just about equivalent to one full slice (60x100mm) and the ciabatta was stoney cold. Ask any North London deli how to serve salt beef and they will tell you hot! So I requested this. If the supervisor came over to ask us to vacate our table I promised my fellow dinners that I would bend her ear. We had waited for over half an hour for food and even then it didn’t meet our expectations. The meat was once again stone cold despite our request, the ciabatta toasted but barely warm. So we are all voting for Greenstead Farm shop and café with our feet! We recommend you do the same and spare yourself the disappointment.
