White Hart Hotel in Braintree

Great place to stay whilst visiting family great atmosphere , great team and Scott is the icing on the cake. Certainly stay again next time we're in the area. Can't see better value for money or service in the area.

To all staff this last 24 hours. I dont usually find the time to write reveiws or send emails unless Im generally intending to gain from it like most. In this case, I felt I needed to make an exception. Can I just say the few staff there were, and there weren't many deserve a mention and big thank you. A wedding function, full bar, busy hotel, over the Christmas period would not of been easy with from what I could see a challenging staff rota. Well done and thanks to all......all 4 of you.😂 I get it. You've eaten too much you've drunk too much, you dont want to be at work but you managed to smile and help strangers that aren't at work none the less. Cheers. The food was excellent, I dont like has browns anyway. The service, polite efficient and friendly even when clearly rushed. Multi cross department tasking at its very best. The rooms clean and warm. We all just walked away content and happy. Just thought you all needed a big thank you, and know your hard work was very much apreciated at this time of year. Thanks for a great stay. Enjoy your days off! You all deserve them.

We had a lovely afternoon, and a lovely meal on Christmas day. We were looked after from the minute we arrived . The atmosphere was fantastic . Each course was cooked to perfection, compliments to the chef. This was our first time eating out Christmas day, and we are confident in saying you will see us again Christmas day 2025 as our new family Christmas tradition. Thankyou to all the staff at the white hart hotel Braintree for giving up part of their day to make ours so special.

What a welcoming and completely hidden gem in Braintree. It's dog friendly. Staff are friendly and the food and wine was lovely and at really good price.

Very impressed with the service , right in the middle of Braintree, the rooms were fine , just a little jaded , nice bed and a good shower. Great breakfast, a lot of stairs , so might not be for everyone, I am not sure if there is a lift I did not see one. My family and I would definitely stay there again.

The hotel was as amazing as always. The staff are so friendly. Disappointed that when you call the hotel you get a blunt automated voice that wants you to either go to a central reservation team or book online whereas I like to talk the hotel in person. But I found if you say "talk to human" it eventually puts you through to the hotel. Lack of parking still a problem but the hotel cannot do anything about that. Breakfast was amazing, would highly recommend this hotel for it's lovely manager & staff & excellent service & the olde worlde charm!

Had to wait ages for someone to even see we were there. Slow service. The food was very substandard. Straight out of a Microwave.We were asked if we wanted a serviette? It used to be such a wonderful place to go years ago, but sadly, it's not now.

Strategic places to stay in Braintree

This is a lovely pub and hotel in the middle of Braintree!! It's a 15 to 20 minute walk from the pub, and there are bus stops at the station too! The room we had was a good size, with large ensuite and a wardrobe for clothes! Big bed as well! The breakfast is a large choice, including cooked! All portions are large but delicious! Food for lunch or evening in pub is also well made and delicious too!!

Only went for a pre theatre meal. The food and service were very good

I enjoyed a very pleasant one night stay on a Saturday at The White Hart, Braintree. I booked direct and received a discount voucher for food and beverages, I enjoyed a delicious fish goujon sandwich and cappuccino at the bar when I arrived. The staff were very welcoming and helpful, offering help with my bags. Parking is free to guests so long as you register your car on the terminal in reception. I went out for the evening, when I returned the music from the bar was travelling up to my room (No 1), but it stopped around 11.30pm I think. The room was clean and nicely decorated, and the bed very comfortable indeed. I had an excellent night's sleep. My room rate included breakfast in a lovely Georgian dining room. There was no one there to greet me at 8am, and no-one else in the restaurant. Eventually I found the cereals, juices, tea, coffee etc tucked round the corner, and when I returned to my seat a waitress arrived to take my order. This was the very best hotel breakfast I've ever had. The food was perfect and clearly the bacon, sausage and toasted bread were of a very high quality. I made a point of telling the waitress and chef how good it was. Highly recommended.

We held our wedding reception at the White Hart. From the moment we first enquired about using the hotel, until the moment we left, Scott, Ben and the team were amazing. Friendly, approachable and flexible (it was a wedding after all). Thank you for an amazing evening A&B

We were a large party who ate here. The service and staff were excellent. The food was standard and a bit pricey. The venue looks small from the outside but is very spacious and had a relaxed feel about it with ample parking and an outdoor area.

We have been previously and not had a good experience, after reading some recent reviews and talking to some friends who had recently been we decided to give it another go. We had a lovely meal, all cooked fresh so yes, a bit of a wait, but that’s ok when you know it’s being cooked fresh and you’re chatting with the family. Drinks arrived timely and served with a smile. The food was very good, and so much better presented than previously. We all had various things from the menu, I had the gammon with was very good, some had the salmon which they thoroughly enjoyed, the squash risotto was very much enjoyed and the chicken in a basket went down very well too! All in all a superior visit and we are returning again tomorrow with the family to enjoy some time together.

Great place and a the favourite in Braintree. Staff are amazing, Fay is a fantastic host, Grace, Katie, both the Josh’s are alway friendly and super attentive. Love the quiet room at the front and the main bar area always has a nice atmosphere. Look out for the events because they are always well though through and good fun. Love this place!

Had a very pleasant stay. The staff were excellent especially the front of house staff and the ladies who work the hardest. (Chamber maids) not sure what they are called now but lovely ladies. 5 stars for them.

Had a meal there , very pricey for what you got , got meals mixed up also the staff are to loud, we sat there listening to there conversations which you couldn't help ,the manager wanted a wee and a shower and another one talking about puking over things when she went out , we won't be going back for some time

Smooth check in, welcoming, beautiful quaint pub loads of ups and downs, beams wonky walls added to the age of the building, tastefully decorated too.

Traditional English hotel located in the centre of Braintree, only a 10 minute walk from Braintree train station. Beautiful rooms with exposed beams.

Stayed here as we were attending a wedding in the area and didn't want to travel home late. Absolutely great pub, restaurant and hotel. Full of character and well located, the dining room is especially a sight to see. Had the steak for lunch the first day and couldn't complain in the slightest, I had the full English for breakfast the next morning which was also exemplar, with my girlfriend having the smoked bacon and poached eggs on toast, of which the only slightest comment would be that the hollandaise sauce was a little on the sweet side, but this is personal preference. The rooms were more than adequate, and the shower in our room was excellent. All the staff were super happy, helpful and attentive, helping us out with anything we needed. Would definitely recommend staying here if you need to spend a few days in the Braintree area!

Kay was our hostess and she is incredible! Fantastic customer service and very attentive.

We stayed for one night on our way to France. Rooms were clean and spacious, staff helpful and friendly. Food in the pub was excellent and their kids menu was perfect for our three picky children.

I wrote a review 4 months ago, simply because the experience was excellent. How things can change, Tues 09/07/24, we had dinner in the bar, with my daughter, her partner and my nephew, my nephew was staying at the hotel. Three of us had breaded mushrooms, seriously overcooked, the so called garnish a 'sprig' of green stuff, not what I call a garnish. My daughter's partner and nephew had the belly pork which he enjoyed so much on his previous visit, this was a let down, presentation was poor, the veg part which I believe is peppers and onions was virtually none existent. My daughter and I had the 'Homemade Battered Cod' homemade it is not!! Our cod portions were identical, the fish was dry and the chips were overcooked. Whilst I accept they were a 'man' down two of the team on duty were management, perhaps some of the time spent vaping outside and sitting down conversing with a male would be better spent looking after the customers!! Added to that the gents toilet was out of action and apparently only half the kitchen was functional. Seriously Greene King if one your hotels reports an issue the get it fixed ASAP, not leave until your contractor can fit it in. My nephew is back this way in a couple of months, doubtless he will stay at the White Hart, but if we meet him for dinner it will be somewhere else. Yes we could have said something at the time, but quite simply our experience should not have happened, if food doesn't look right they you don't serve it, clearly something was lacking here.

There was a group of us dining on a weekday night. When we ordered they said they were busy and it would take 30 mins for the food to turn up. Fine I said. However it did not appear until 1 hr 10 mins later, I kid you not. I did ask them after 45 mins how long it would be and they said another 15 mins so even that was poor, when it was more like 25 mins not 15 mins! And we had 2 under 5s dining so that was terrible for them. They apologized when it did finally arrive but warm words are easy. They didn’t offer anything in the way of compensation. We had to ask for complimentary desserts which they countered with drinks. By that time it was late but we agreed to some hot drinks…that took another 10-15 mins to come! The food when it did come was ok but note there was no chicken available!

Excellent service, staff could not be more helpful, especially Kay and Logan, they allowed us to decorate the table and helped make our friends birthday special, food was 5 stars and came out hot and delicious

Lovely hotel in the heart of town.parking available .pets are allowed too which is great The hotel is historic with great bar and restaurant.We have been several times mainly due to the excellent staff We would single out Susan on reception who is hard working, professional and so friendly .Nothing is too much trouble and she assists us every time with finding a suitable room for us .Highly Recommend a visit.

It's walking distance from where I live. Love this place! It has lot of history, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. It is definitely very relaxing. They also have a very good menu..I like it. I definitely recommend 👌:)

Came here for quiz on Monday. Had a fantastic experience, all the staff were especially friendly and great at what they do. Lucy, our waitress, is clearly loved by all the regulars around, who were singing her praises, and really made our evening so much fun, always with a big smile. A really well run quiz by all. Great evening.

Great overnight stay lovely comfortable roon so kind to let us keep room longer as husband doing the colchester run and needed shower on return as got soaked ! Thank you

Check the events calendar!!!! 27th April big party going on. We asked the manager about the noise as my young son and I had traveled a long way and needed a good sleep for an early start to complete our journey. We were assured we wouldn't hear anything. In bed for 9 can't sleep. Rang the number they gave us if there was a problem. No answer. Left several messages on it no answer. At 11pm i had to phone holiday inn for availability and drove there for a peaceful sleep. I know they need the revenue from parties/events but I asked them about the noise and the reply was it will finish at 12.... That's not a good sleep for us then. Had they been honest I would have booked elsewhere there and then . The fish was off but my son being young didn't suspect it being off and he ate it and is now paying for it sat on the toilet. My steak I think had been warmed up and like rubber, it was £38 wasted. Not nice at all. Honesty goes a long way.

I live locally but had never visited until today. I feel annoyed at myself! Beautiful place with delicious food, brilliant service and so reasonably priced. I never leave reviews but this one is well and truly deserved. Can not wait to come back ☺️

Went to the Jazz night last weekend. Excellent singer (Manuella) - she was fantastic. The meal was very good too with excellent service provided. The newly decorated room was very elegant and made for a wonderful relaxing evening. Please book Manuella again.

Have not been here for a number of years as last experience was awful but was recommended to come back and was so pleased we have excellent service and a very good reasonable price meal will certainly be back our sever Katie was a joy.

If im not meeting friends for coffee, im there for a meal with friends or family along with sunday lunch. Great atmosphere xmas eve, lovely meal boxing day. Wouldn't go anywhere else. We have visited a few times now for lunch or drinks. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. Nice surroundings and easy parking.

Went for xmas dinner £75 even though we had to pre order our whole meal it took over 30 minutes for the starter to come out and another hour for the main meal which was awful very disappointed certainly not good value!

Definitely visually the best pub in Braintree. It's got the 'cosy' vibes of an old English pub. Heads up, a lime cordial and soda (any soda drink) will cost you £3.50 instead of the standard 35p-90p of surrounding pubs. Food was very average. I can't recommend this pub. 👍

On check in no one was available for 10 mins, got to my room and it stinks of cigarettes. The window is broken so it won’t close, the shower isn’t working and now the heating doesn’t work. 2 stars because unbelievably I’ve stayed in worse hotels.

We had a table for 11 book for yesterday Sunday 10th. When we arrived there was a sign on the door stating the kitchen was closed for ‘repairs’. This was a birthday meal and most of us had travelled an hour to get here! The lady (manager) lied and said she had called all tables and cancelled them this morning but we hadn’t had a call or email nothing. If she had,we could have anrranged something else. Absolutely disgusting, birthday ruined, no where nearby could accommodate a table of this size at such short notice! She couldn’t care less basically smerking at us like it was a joke!

The room was great, dinner was excellent & quick service. & breakfast & service by laura was fantastic. Couldn't recommend the white Hart highly enough. Only downside was lack of parking.

Great central location, great price, wonderful breakfast and ever so willing staff. Bit tired (hotel, not me!) but assume the scaffolding around the hotel is a sign of an uplift!

We came for a birthday dinner of 20. Scott and Kay ensured we were all sorted and settled. The service and food was 10/10. Couldn’t have asked for more. The pub has completely changed from before, for the better!

We booked for 1 night bed and breakfast and had an evening meal at the White Hart also....NO COMPLAINTS !!!!!!......room we stayed in was large, lovely with everything one could want, it's a big place which is very dog friendly, has a lot of character throughout, downstairs was a great to drink, eat and be happy, also had room for the TV sports, it was all clean and inviting, breakfast was exceptional with so much choice for EVERYONE !!!!!...the dinner we had in the evening was really very good and I have to say very reasonably priced........ALL the staff were helpful, courteous and very friendly.....would thoroughly recommend The White Hart Hotel and we will definitely return...A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE STAFF FOR A GREAT STAY !!!!!!!....Richard, Lesley and Bertie the poodle.......

We had stayed overnight and ate dinner. The haloumi fries were lovely and squeaky and the sea bass risotto was superb. The sea bass, shrimp, scallops and mint risotto were perfectly cooked. The risotto rice was al dente and nicely wet to start so that during the meal it remained succulent. It was a real treat.

Great delicious meal, special thanks to waiter Alfie, he took great care of us. I recommend to try out the dinner while you stay.

We dropped in for a spontaneous lunch on a very hot Saturday afternoon. (16/09) We were informed when we arrived that there was an event happening at the same time so there could be some delays, however we really didn't wait very long and the staff were really attentive. The food was lovely, all 5 of us were more than satisfied with what we had. We'd especially like to mention Nick who was great the whole time - really friendly and welcoming! Thanks guys.
