Disappointing - we were received well, the menu looked ok but then there was the products they didn’t have! When the food came it ok but nothing special, the fish and chips dish was an apology for a fish. The service was poor - lack of training and experience. Would we go again - definitely not.

An absolutely appalling experience - it would probably make a passable comedy sketch. We arrived to be told that they had no chicken, risotto or lasagna, debated whether to stay but there were a few more items on the menu that we thought looked OK. Ordered and paid for meals - there were also no chips so opted for the mash option instead, 5 minutes later we were told that they had no Feta for my partners dish, so my partner chose the salmon dish - returned to say that was off as well - so she opted for another dish with peas - 2 minutes later serve returned to say they had no peas. Meals (what was available) arrived and they were of a very mediocre standard. Have eaten at Greene King pubs in the past and they were OK but this was just an absolute disaster.

A very cozy and hospitable hotel. Staff are very friendly. Food was also very tasty. Hotel room was a bit less, it was very warm. We slept in room 3 and the extractor fan from the kitchen came out to us. That's why we couldn't open a window because otherwise our room would smell like the kitchen. Otherwise we had a good stay.

White Hart in Coggeshall was truly a taste of England! 🍽️✨ This charming spot offers an authentic experience that captures the essence of classic English dining. The English breakfast here is as good as it gets, featuring perfectly cooked smoked bacon and poached eggs. 🥓🍳 The bacon is crispy and full of flavor, while the poached eggs are incredibly soft and delicate—definitely a pleasant surprise if you haven’t tried them before! The atmosphere at White Hart is steeped in history, with its old English design creating a warm and inviting setting. The rustic decor and cozy ambiance make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time, providing the perfect backdrop for a leisurely meal. 🏡🇬🇧 Whether you’re a local or just passing through Coggeshall, White Hart is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy traditional English cuisine in a lovely setting. Highly recommended for a true taste of England! 🌟🍴 #WhiteHart #Coggeshall #EnglishBreakfast #TraditionalDining #OldEnglishCharm

Called in for a breakfast fry up but was too late and very hungry so opted for lunch instead. Had Halloumi fries (nicely cooked and well presented) Friend had Mac n Cheese same, looked perfect and tasted great, 1 happy customer. I opted for the lamb shank, 11/10 looked and tasted amazing and was a good size super tender fall off the bone shank with great veg and even greater gravy. Best lambshank I've had in a few years. Loved every mouthful, left stuffed. Thank you White Hart for an awesome feed.

Hmm not good, staff struggling with online short bookings and walk-ins. Apparently only 1 chef on. Although food did eventually turn up it was a long time before it did. Staff seemed harassed and a little edgy to customers (not all staff though - some tried hard to resolve issues). Was told by bar staff that it's better not to use the app to order drinks.... Which in this day and age is quite normal to avoid queues at bar etc). Disappointed and won't be back. Sorry but certain staff need replacing whilst others need promotions. For those that work hard the lazy ones make life difficult. Such a pity. Sorry it's such a negative review - people need to know.

Me , my daughter and grandson came for lunch today. My grandson had the vegan sausages, jacket potato and corn on the cob. The potato and corn were lovely but his sausages were very overcooked and he struggled to eat them. I had to remove the ends as they were far too hard for him to tackle. This seems to be a greene king thing though as all pubs we've been to are the same. Just a recommendation to the chef's in your pubs that the vegan sausages don't need cremated. My rosemary and sea salt fries were perfect though so not all bad.

Can't comment on the rooms as we didn't stay. Just had a drinks but it's a real pity such a beautiful historic building is being used as it is. Indifferent staff, they'd rather take up the remaining seating in the bar for their post-shift whinge than let paying customers be comfortable. As stated, the building is stunning but the atmosphere is cold, soulless and uninviting. Which is a shame as I'm sure it doesn't need to be. As my teachers used to say "could do better"

On a positive note we enjoyed our stay at the hotel with regards to the room ,although needed a bit of updating. The cooked breakfast was very good with a good continental choice. On a negative note the evening main meal was very poor, with a long wait for our food and then could not eat it all as not cooked correctly. Very disappointing. We did not have to pay for the food so this was a positive action. Also when we checked out we had to pay for another breakfast of £12 as app due to having only booked the room under one name we only had one breakfast included! When we booked in together we were told the breakfast was included in the price! So an additional expense.

I cannot believe that after two or more years, Greene King have still not taken their supplier of meat to task for supplying the toughest steaks in East Anglia. My family took me to the White Hart for Mothers Day, hoping for a lovely, relaxed meal unfortunately after arriving and placing our order from the set Mothers Day Menu, we had to wait an hour and a half for our starters, there was no halloumi available so my son asked if he could have a side instead as he didn't really like any of the other options, he was told no, he couldn't swap. After finishing our starters, which were OK (apart from the prawn cocktail which had hardly any prawns in it) we had to wait another hour for our main course. My husbands steak was well done and not medium rare as asked, it was really tough and he didn't enjoy it at all. A table close to us had been waiting over two hours for their main course and having children with their party it was incredibly stressful for them. I know it is difficult to find staff but the delays were unacceptable, we did get money off before we left but it was a shame that what should have been a lovely special occasion was spoiled by such terrible delays, the pub was packed and there was a lot of very unhappy people. Unfortunately Greene King can't keep staff, the morale is low and there just isn't good management, this has been the case for years. The White Hart is a lovely pub/restaurant/hotel but the poor service and management is the reason why there are continuing issues.

Really poor Mothers Day meal on Saturday evening. We had to ask for the mothers day menu and staff said it was basically the same options as the main menu (surely they'd want to push the three courses?) The food took hours to come out, despite the restaurant being nearly empty. The staff were okay, but we did have to stop them to ask for more drinks during the long wait. The food was not worth waiting for, the steak was really poor. We were really looking forward to dessert, but decided against it after the long wait and bad mains.

Xmas lunch on Xmas day. This was a very costly meal £75 per head for 6 so we expected a much higher standard of service and made to feel a bit more special. The food was good overall, although some of the starters were a bit unexciting and a bit slap dash. The service was at best chaotic. We were served over an hour after our allotted time slot. They did apologise for the delay before hand and said they were running behind about 30-40 mins but it was much longer before we got any attention. Even though the staff were very pleasant and attentive and apologised afterwards. I think if you leave guests waiting that long for such an expensive and special occasion, you should offer at the very least complimentary drinks as we spent more waiting around in the bar or a reduction off the bill.

We popped in for an early dinner on the way home from a shopping trip. The main restaurant was empty of customers, so we decided to eat in the bar. After ordering our food we quickly realised where we had chosen to sit was a dreadful mistake. Close to us was a table seating approximately seven people, this group of people very quickly showed themselves to be foul mouthed. They were very loud and probably one word in seven spoken was vulgar. Because they were so very loud we couldn’t escape hearing it all. We decided to move to a different level but still remained in the bar and whilst we could still hear them it was bearable. Our food arrived it was edible but quite mediocre, The staff were pleasant but we were surprised they didn’t politely didn’t ask these loud mouthed people to tone it down. I don’t think we will eat there again. The ambiance was so very disappointing.

Stayed here for 2 nights, with family and friends,as we had wedding at a nearby venue. The rooms in the hotel are nice and adequate for a few nights. Price also included breakfast, but would advise anyone thinking of booking, to just book the room. Our first evening we had booked a table for 8 in the restaurant at 7pm. Ordered Camembert to share, only to be told none left. Ordered nachos to share, sorry no nachos. No fish cakes or rissotto and this was at 7pm!!! Breakfast day 1. Only one person in the restaurant, taking orders and serving. Wait for the breakfast was around 30 minutes. 2nd morning. 2 people working in the restaurant. Arrived at 910am order taken at 930. No white bread left and no more fresh orange!! Surely, knowing there was a large wedding party staying, then you should have had more staff on and able to replenish the bread and fresh orange. You had a bar, why could you not have got the juice from there???? Eventually our cooked breakfast arrived at 1030. Only an hour wait. The biggest joke of all though, is that we were charged £4.02 for 4 hash browns, that my grandaughter wanted. She had nothing else from the menu but was charged because they were not on the menu!!! They were included with the full breakfast, which if you paid for it was £12.50!!! Some of our party did not even eat from the breakfast menu and had only toast, so you were saving money there, although bread was in short supply. I do not know how you had the audacity to charge for 4 hash browns. What a joke. Really need more staff to ensure guests are not kept waiting and not having to go and look for them to have an order taken and served, within a reasonable time scale. If you know the hotel was going to be busy, which you did, well in advance, then guarantee your guests would not have to be told that certain foods had run out by 7pm!!!!!

Went for lunch, was absolutely starving when I go there. I usually don't try new foods but i decided to give it a chance I got the vegetarian sandwich and it was great! Brownie was also quality, so was the soup, oh and so was the garlic bread!

At the heart of the village, this place offers accommodation, food and drinks. Staff and service are brilliant and very friendly. The menu is well priced and beautiful and the beers are competitively priced. The building is amazing, 15th century I'm told, and has quirks and features in every room. Absolutely amazing.

Beautiful old building, our room was lovely and clean. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Had a roast dinner on the Sunday evening and it was delicious. Had the full English for breakfast, and it was well worth the cost. Tasty and hot.

Lovely evening, friendly staff good food. Will definitely return for more. Second visit food still good and service lovely. Sat in the restaurant for a family meal and was not disappointed in anyway. Steak and ale pie and chips for me but all food looked great can't find a fault. Thank you

Lovely old building and nice pub with kind and attentive staff but I'm not a fan of Greene King, so wasn't too into the beers. Food was good pub grub. The beer garden is good with a mega undercover area which is great for those rainy/drizzley British days. We also stayed 2 nights, it was the best value in the village so we were surprised at how good it was. Comfy and maybe too warm (it was winter)

Lovely old higgledy piggledy building, staff couldn't have been nicer or kinder. Seems to attract a friendly group of customers and guests, which all all adds to the overall experience. This is a pub, not a boutique hotel so rooms are simple and menu is pub food, wholesome and great value.

Accommodation was a very simple room, which is expected for the price. Bathroom was too small…one of those which you could shower your feet, sit on the toilet and brush your teeth in the sink simultaneously. Others in our group had better sized bathrooms, we were unlucky with room 8. But everyone agreed it was simple room. But for the price…I was pleased.

Party night 9th December. Good party atmosphere but food completely let it down, very disappointed. Prawn salad - one lettuce leaf and 5 prawns. Definitely not a salad. Burnt pepper and tomato tart, pastry so hard it couldn't be cut. Christmas pudding- never seen one like it, was a thin slice, not a pudding. Wrong wine served twice. Wouldn't recommend or return here. I understand its a busy time but service with a smile would be nice too.
