The Village Restaurant in Plymouth

Food was excellent. Good sized portions and reasonably priced, as was the wine. Service was good but the tables were too close together for comfort and had to ask for the music to be turned down as it was impossible to hold a conversation . It was lowered , at which point the couple at the next table said “thank goodness, it’s far too loud” but it crept up again. Probably would not visit again for this reason .

Delicious homemade food and great service in such a small, bustling and cosy restaurant! No wonder it is so popular even on a Monday night! Portion sizes were fantastic too and a great evening meal deal of 2 courses for less than £16. A little gem highly recommended. We had the taramasalata and pitta, garlic mushrooms (which was served with dipping bread and butter), traditional fish and chips, and the homemade fish pie.

Always visit this restaurant when in Plymouth and in the past have relished the thought of having the wonderful Fish Pie. Terribly disappointed on our last visit when presented with a pie that smelled of fish and tasted fishy but was missing all the usual mixture of chunky fish !! Missed the usual staff who appear to have been replaced. Regret that we will now have to find a new favourite Restaurant. Willy

The food and service was faultless. However, too many tables crammed together. Our table was actually touching the back of the chairs of the family sat to next to us. The two women on the other side commented saying "It's a bit cozy isn't it". You just can't relax and enjoy the food. Made it quite an unpleasant experience.

Very tasty meal! There was plenty of choice of meat and fish or both. There were also vegetarian options.

Picked a random restaurant in the Barbican area of Plymouth. Luckily they had a spare table, even though busy on a wet Tuesday evening. Everything was top notch. 2 course menu for £15.95 was exceptional value. We all had seafood main dishes which were all excellent. Massive portions. Service great. Would recommend to anyone

Sadly one of our favourites doesn't seem as good as used to be. Whether different chef not sure. Waitress lovely. But cramped with tables next to each other. Tried two times to see if one off. Unfortunately won't again. Shame as was once really good

We have been coming here for years but not been for a few months as not well.But came here yesterday for birthday meal.Eight of us arrived for booked meal.The service was great as usual lovely greeting happy smiling waitresses.But the food is no where near what it used to be. Chicken was stringy chips were alot of bit.Beef stroganoff was tuff and looked awful when served batter on fish over cooked and hard.The greek salad used to be amazing not anymore wont go on with all the dishes.But really was disappointing.Please try to sort this as we always loved the atmosphere here.Its the food that needs to be sorted.

Booked a table for 6 at 6.30pm on 23/03/24. Had to wait half an hour to be seated as no tables were free. Never have I seen people packed in like sardines at the tables before this experience. The atmosphere was stressful and the staff looked stressed. You really could not move in your seat as no room to do so. The food was good but we had to put some plates on the corner seat as not enough room on the table. The manager obviously puts profits before a good custoner experience.

Very busy, be advised to book to avoid disappointment.

Discovered this gem of a family restaurant whilst staying overnight. A friendly warm welcome , even on a Monday evening there was a vibrant feel to the place. A good choice of starters and mains, with tempting specials too. Great service and well presented and delicious food. Good value and whilst we chose well other diners choices looked equally tempting. Highly recommended.

If you live near or in Plymouth or visiting this is a must. Menu was superb such a choice took ages to decide, staff and service excellent. Food was absolutely mind blowing my wife and I shared a starter of rolled smoked salmon with one filled with crab meat and the other with prawns fantastic. Main was the Old School Thermidor for the 2 of us WOW unbelievably good. Atmosphere great well attended. Totally faultless.

Last few times I have visited the steak has been like a fake fillet had to drink my water every mouthful so dry and bitty, chips over cooked and sauce very bland! Use to be my favourite restaurant. New chef is needed total disappointment , over priced and tasteless!!!

I’ll keep this brief, the food and the service was excellent, I cannot recommend the Village highly enough. A great choice of menu and specials board made life a little difficult but we got there and we weren’t disappointed.

Really great food and super service. The menu has a varied menu, seafood, grill as well Greek traditional foods. The atmosphere is wonderful and staff are very helpful, extremely quick service from order placement. I do strongly recommend visiting however the only negative is the restaurant is very ‘compact’. Personally I feel there are a few too many tables making access a little bit difficult and having the feeling of being cramped. I do appreciate that to remain in business, it’s great to serve as many customers as possible, however when feeling cramped, it is not ideal. I will definitely return but will look to go on a weekday so I can really appreciate the food and the experience.

Never there been before but wow what a lovely lunch! Lunch with friends, service great, food great. We booked for 12.30pm and was still there well after 3pm, not once do they try and move us on or say they needed the table. Staff could not do enough for us. It was a really lovely lunch. Excellent food and excellent value for money. Unbelievably busy on a Tuesday night at around 7 ish. My only reservation is that the tables are too close together so you hear conversations from many other tables.

Great little restaurant. Effortlessly catered for a party of 8, food was speedy and delicious and staff were friendly and effective, despite it getting incredibly crowded. Absolute gem if you're a fan of seafood.

The restaurant was packed on a Monday evening, so we knew it must be good. We were made very welcome despite not having a booking. The restaurant is a fresh fish, Greek, fish 'n' chip mash up and somehow it works brilliantly! My wife had a cold fish platter and I had a hot fish platter and both were fantastic - fresh, quality, local fish. Service was friendly and efficient. Great atmosphere. Top notch!

We arrived at 6pm ordered our drinks then ordered our starters after perusing the menu. Within 5 minutes of ordering our starters arrived which made it clear they were already prepared this was Taramasalata and Tzatziki with Pitta bread. As soon as this was cleared away we had our mains delivered ! both my friend and i had chicken which was gristly and chewy not at all nice our other friend had the seafood linguini which she felt was ok. The tables are very tightly packed in so you are sat very close to other diners, I would not recommend this restaurant simply because rather than have a nice leisurely meal it was a rushed meal around 40 minutes.

Wow oh wow Greek recipes local sea food absolutely top drawer food ! All courses of seafood perfectly cooked and presented . The Greek infusion of locally sourced sea food and Style. A must for any seafood lover.

We went here for my boyfriend's 21st birthday meal. We had a lovely time, the staff were very friendly and the food was good. The only disappointing aspect was that my moussaka was cold in the middle but the staff were more than happy to heat it up. The restaurant was also extremely busy which meant that it was quite crowded. Despite this, we would be happy to return.

Second visit and once again didn't disappoint. Great food, generous portions and a very fair price. This is not a pretentious place to be seen. it's a no frills family style restaurant with good food in a comfortable atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.

Lovely place. Went around 7.30pm last Saturday with a birthday group of 10. Busy place at this time so quite cosy for seating. Food was cooked well everything from seafood, steak and vegetarian dishes 👌 thoroughly enjoyed. The service was also very good so tip well at this place they deserve it.

After being recommended to me by a couple who visits regularly, I decided to go for myself. Both my friend and I loved it. I managed to get a start, main and soft drink for under £20 and it was worth much more. The staff were accommodating, despite being busy this time of year, and served us both very quickly. I have waited at empty restaurants for a lot longer... The staff, again, were polite and cheerful; even apologising when smashing a glass accidentally off the table nearby. The staff are lovely. The food was brilliant. The seafood was amazing and pasta brilliant. I absolutely recommended coming here as it will leave you happy without breaking the bank.

Celebrated a 50th Birthday. From the moment we arrived the staff could not have been more attentive. The food was fantastic, which came from an extensive menu catering for all tastes. Could not recommend this place any more. Looking forward to returning soon.

Wonderful evening at The Village Restaurant with friends. Their menu is extensive with a Greek twist, there’s something for everyone and plenty of vegetarian options too. I recommend the vegetarian moussaka, it was so rich and flavourful. My friends enjoyed their fish dishes and it’s worth noting that the fried potatoes are incredible (must have)! The restaurant itself is small but cosy. Our reservation was lost however they still managed to seat us which we are thankful for!

I recently visited The Village Restaurant in Plymouth, seeking a delightful seafood experience, but was met with disappointment. Despite my explicit request to exclude mussels from my order, the dish presented to me contained them. When I brought this to their attention, the staff merely removed the mussels without addressing the lingering flavour that had already tainted the entire meal. The situation further deteriorated when the waiter offered additional prawns, to which I inquired about adding scallops as well. Upon learning of the extra cost, I politely declined. However, to my astonishment, I overheard the waiter informing the kitchen of my supposed agreement to the extra charge. I immediately clarified that I did not want the addition, yet, a plate of prawns and scallops was served to me shortly after. I reiterated my refusal, especially when informed of the extra cost, yet the staff insisted it was my error. Their claim of not pressuring me felt insincere, especially as they argued that the kitchen had already prepared the dish promptly. I stood firm in my refusal to pay the additional cost. Out of curiosity, I tasted the scallops, only to find them excessively salty and unpleasant. Frankly, I cannot recommend The Village Restaurant. Plymouth boasts a plethora of seafood dining options where one can enjoy a meal without such frustrating experiences. 點了海鮮但下單時說明不要mussels但上碟時有的，跟他們說，他們直接把mussels拿下就算了。整盤充滿了我討厭的mussels味道。然後侍應說你要多點蝦嗎？我說好的，也多點帶子可以嗎？ 她說"ok but need extra cost" so I said "oh then is doesn't matter"and 我搖頭示意不用了。但很快我聽到她跟廚房說我要並不介意extra cost. 我立即望向她說我不要，她跟廚房說不要後我以為完了。但他們突然給我一小盤蝦和帶子，我說這是要extra cost 嗎？他們就是，我就說我不要，我一早就說不要了，他們強行要我要，還說是我的錯。 我說你們不要強迫我要，他們說他們沒有強迫，是我一說要廚房就煮了。 5分鐘就煮好了。我跟他們說，我是絕對不會付extra cost。他們討論了說沒關係。我吃了一口那小盤的帶子，超咸超難吃。 說實話，我真心不推薦這間，Plymouth 吃海鮮的地方很多，不用來這間受委屈

Popped in whilst passing and liking the look of the menu and had the most amazing dinner.

This is a little gem of a place! I hadlunch with a friend. The Kleftico was meltingly tender, the panacotta with coulis delicious. Service was top notch too. Forget your chain restaurants and come here!

I just needed a quick bite and this indie place looked like it had a good menu. Service was friendly and speedy. Lentil soup was just the thing to drive away the winter chills and the Dover sole was nicely cooked. A pretty reasonable price too.

We go for lunch every weekend to the Village. We love the food and the family service. Fish; pasta; seafood; soups, all really good! And when on a budget to get a 2 dishes menu for £13 is the best!

Fantastic restaurant. The food is always amazing and the service exceptional. We eat here whenever we come to Plymouth. Make sure you book as it’s extremely busy.

Thoroughly enjoyable evening. Excellent quality of food. I ordered the pate starter which filled me up and was delicious. Then my hubby had the rib-eye steak (best he's ever had) and I went for kleftico. Huge amount of lamb that melts in your mouth. What with vegetables and saute potatoes, I couldn't finish it so they boxed it up to take home. It may not be in some people's eyes the best ever presented but the care gone into the food is evident and we would come back to Plymouth just for this restaurant! Oh and the banoffee dessert was out of this world. Only slight slight draw-back...it's such a popular place you can feel a bit rushed with the pace of ordering.

Had a family gathering, range of food was good. As it was lunchtime we had non alcoholic so can't say much about their range of drinks. A mixture of seafood and Greek food was available. My wife and I had the monkfish, prawns and scallops which was nice. Not living near the coast it was good to have s choice if seafood.

Smashing little independent restaurant with a buzzy atmosphere. We had to wait a little while on a Saturday night to get in but had a good time. The food was top notch. Waiting staff friendly . Recommended and certainly better than going to a chain.

Visited this restaurant to celebrate a friend's birthday. The menu looked attractive but in fact all the food me and other guests had wasn't as good unfortunately. The seafood mix with rice was oversalted, bruschetta made on bread not on toast/grilled bread, humus tasteless. Salads (which they forgot to bring) without seasoning or dressing. Presentation of food is lacking 🤔 We all ordered coffee to begin with while waiting for our food to be cooked, but it was all delivered to us together so basically it was pointless🤦‍♀️🙄as we also had our wine.

They will find room for you, the service is fantastic food is amazing and the staff are lovely. We ate there on the Friday and went back on the Sunday as it was so good, can’t wait to go again.

This is a great place for a tasty, home cooked meal. There’s an extensive menu, plus daily specials. Dishes were presented well, in addition to tasting good. Prices are reasonable for the area, especially the set menu (Sunday-Friday) and the staff were friendly.
