Grecian Taverna in Plymouth

Another memorable family celebration at the Taverna. Fantastic food, service and music to keep the party going. Our guests had travelled from all over the UK for a 60th birthday celebration and had a great time. Thank you to Sarah, John and all the staff for a brilliant night and for the care shown to our guests.

Set course for £19.99, including a bunch of sides, was a great value. Massive portions Service was fast, friendly and the lady serving us was great. Always looking out for our needs. The place needs better visibility outside. It's not very inviting, but the inside is a very cute basement. Deffiniately recommend. Will be coming back here again!

I question its authenticity and quality. Not had many Greek meals but had much better food for less

One of the best Sunday roasts in Plymouth. Not only do you get a huge selection with all the trimmings included, the gravy is delicious, the starter and dessert options are never ending and the meats are tender. The staff are incredibly welcoming a friendly. Couldn't recommend it more

Went for a 30th birthday meal and honestly would never step foot in here again, the service and staff attitude was appalling.. pre ordered all our meals and was there for 2 hours before food came out, most of the party were finished before mine came out. Which was a chicken breast on a massive plate, when I asked where the rest was they told me I was suppose to share the platters of veg and chips which was now leftovers and freezing being out a hour before my main arrived. Asked politely for ketchup for my 3 year old son which again was told I’d have to wait for 30 mains to be brought out before getting any. Child’s food was cold by the time he got it. Waitresses walking into each other clueless with orders screaming over each other. A older waitress with dark hair literally acted like she was working at “Karen’s diner” the worst customer service skills and attitude I’ve ever heard. Avoid avoid avoid!!

The Grecian Taverna has long been a family favourite to visit, for food service and atmosphere. However last night 09/02/24 was probably the worst experience of eating out. The food was luke warm, and came out staggered, so by the time the last plate went down, many of us had already finished. One of our party complained about the food not being hot, but nothing was done about it, no offer of a replacement and when someone else complained about the cream being off, she was barked at saying the cream was fine ! A lot of little incidents that made the evening a disappointment. It's not the place it was, after many years of great food and entertainment at the Grecian, I think it may be time to try somewhere new.

28 of us went to the the Grecian Taverna for a post Christmas party. We could not have wanted or expected more from what we received. The service was incredible and the ladies were funny, efficient and made sure we got everything we needed. The food was beautiful and everything on all the different dishes we had came out wonderfully cooked and hot- baring in mind how many there was of us … and the rest of the restaurant was full and eating. And then the tunes played ensured we were all up dancing the night away after. We had 2 ladies whose birthday it was and the whole restaurant sang them happy birthday and they gave the ladies a shot of tequila rose. It was a lovely enjoyable evening and really enjoyed it- thank you

Took my parents for my mum’s birthday. The staff were amazing, very friendly & even sang happy birthday to her. The food was incredible, cooked to perfection & the portion sizes were plentiful. My parents had been before but it was my first time & I will definitely be going again. Absolutely fantastic.

Had a brilliant new years eve celebration at the Grecian Taverna. The food was fabulous, the staff were attentive and friendly and the atmosphere was amazing. There were six in our group and we all agreed it was a very enjoyable night. We especially enjoyed the bit of Greek dancing and the music playlist was perfect for getting people on the dance floor. Bang average food Xmas day. Had to wait 2 hours for the main meal (Roast) to come out. There was others who had been seated after same time eating desert and some had finished we still not had eaten are main. We had 4 children and we was told children prices and at the end they tried to charge us full price. Cheeky!

Went for Christmas function. Meatballs burnt, told by Sarah the waitress "Don't order them again" main course steaks were appalling, three quarters off the party left before having sweet. Would not recommend, overpriced and rubbish quality.

The food was OK. Went for a works Xmas do, staff was lovely. Very busy that night. Great music great atmosphere. Starter was nice, steak not so good , pudding was OK.

We went there with friends for our Xmas meal. Great music, great food & atmosphere, all combined to make a lovely night altogether.

Possibly the worst food I have ever eaten at a restaurant. Please don’t waste your time. You will have a better meal at Wetherspoons across the road.

I went here for a work Christmas party, the staff were absolutely fabulous. They really cared for there customers and they were also getting involved in the dancing and showing us some moves. The food was lovely and generally a great atmosphere. I’m saddened to find out there closing down but they said they would move to another property anyway. Wherever they will be in the future I would definetly be returning. Thankyou so much Grecian Taverna

First the staff were super - attentive, friendly and hard working. Secondly, the food was very good and in very large portions. My only reservation was that this was 'anglicised greek cooking' and a bit remote from the real thing. I had a lovely rack of lamb, but it came with cauliflower cheese, carrots, chips, roast potatoes and a greek salad. The Greek salad was not what you might expect. Go there and enjoy it, but do not expect it to be authentic.

Accusations of bringing in wine when we had purchased it from the premises? To have it taken away and then returned with no apology.? Insults with food choice when you was served. .poor sense of humour. Table placement on the dancefloor and it was OUR fault we was in the way?.... As a gesture we was repeatedly asked if we wanted free alcohol as that was their method to try and shut us up. Which we refused. Chairs went missing and moved purposely so we couldn't finish our 3 courses And finally as a parting gift I was shouted at for "blocking" the bar when saying our goodbyes. Would not accept a refund if offered as this is money much needed for customer skills training for the manager, also stock control and table placement skills need serious improvement.

lovely little restaurant literally hidden under Plymouth! Super friendly and good atmosphere lead by Sarah & her team! love the food in there, we go to get our fix of Meat Moussaka! John is very generous with the portions! Would highly recommend!

Bit hidden entrance but I've tried and not disappointed 😋 Very nice surprise. Good atmosphere, all boxes ticked. No push for tip, portions big enough so may have to ask for help getting up. Greek salad served as a standard with set menu 11/10 😋 Not a vinaigrette bunch of greens- propper salad 😋 😀 Apologies for not posting any pictures but I was busy enjoying my meal.

Absolutely fantastic from start to finish! Food was incredible and so much of it - great value for money! Service was 5* couldn’t do enough for us! Felt so welcome my little boy was accommodated for at every opportunity - including chocolate to keep him happy at table! Cannot rate this place enough gutted we never came sooner!

Excellent food and service. Had the two course set menu for £19. Great choice of food and several daily specials added. Large amount of food and absolutely delicious. Best moussaka I’ve ever had. The waitress (Katie) I think her name was , so friendly and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed all the food. Highly recommend. Great value for money.

Great place to eat, can get 2 courses for less then £20. Either starter & main. Or main and dessert. They will happily let you take away your food. There is always plenty of sides available. Staff are very friendly. Been coming here now for the past month will continue to support this little gem

Had a family meal here last night, and I can honestly say I was blown away with the service. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Sarah was knowledgeable and passionate - even fetching cuts of meat to show us the size of the steaks. Cooked to perfection for all 11 of us, there were loads of food - we were all filled to the brim. Later on, we had a little dance as a DJ played popular music, and were told we could stay as long as we like (our table was booked for 6pm) I found it so unusual these days,to be served and looked after by truly passionate people - the best restaurant I have visited in Plymouth and definitely worth a visit!

Ama,ingredients food, great atmosphere and always fully booked so get in early. This will be re-located due to the council buying out the local properties for development, so make sure that you get yourself down here! It's always amazing. I've been coming here for 20 years!

It was a terrible dinner. Our table was so close to the dance floor and the people was hitting the table until we left. We asked for changing our plates and glasses because of the stains on them. Thanks the staff for changing them. The food was good but I suggest you ask them where your table will be if you don't know the place and its vibe.

Have never tried this place as it doesn't look much at all from the outside. However, it's been recommended to us several times so thought we'd give it a go and we weren't disappointed!! We were greeted by very friendly staff, who were all helpful throughout the evening. We had garlic mushrooms and a prawn cocktail for starters, souvla and a porterhouse for mains and homemade cheesecake and a chocolate fudge cake for dessert. Very good food, very tasty and you get plenty of it! It's all reasonably priced too. Great first visit, really enjoyed it and can't wait to return.

A little gem in the heart of Plymouth. The restaurant is beautifully laid out despite being downstairs and spotlessly clean. The food was delicious, just too much of it, and was served quickly. The staff, especially Sarah, were very friendly and made me feel welcome and not on my own which was greatly appreciated. Thank you.

By far the best Greek restaurant in Plymouth. Being Greek ourselves we can be quite fussy but the Grecian Taverna never disappoints! There’s always something different/unique on the specials menu and the staff are all lovely. The head chef is happy to cater to any dietary requirements too. We will be back again soon.

Had my niece's Hen Party here and would thoroughly recommend this restaurant. The food was delicious, staff/customer service outstanding, and the music and dancing provided the best fun. If you haven't been there, you should go ( but watch out for Hen parties 🙄).

The Grecian Taverna used to be one of the best Greek restaurant for miles around. Now it’s just an embarrassment. I can’t find one good thing to say about it. Food bad, service appalling, atmosphere non existent - bar server constantly going out to smoke

Would have been five star but where we were sat was like a wind tunnel and had to wear my coat as I was cold.heating was turned up but made little difference. And fairly cramped had to keep pulling my chair into let people squeeze past. Food was lovely and staff lovely especially the young lady behind the bar. Will only allow you to use visa/card for purchase over £10.

Where do you start with this place? The feel inside the restaurant is amazing, the set-up on the inside makes you feel as if you are sat in a mediterranean courtyard The service is absolutely top tier, never had a bad server there. The food portions are huge, and absolutely delicious, there is also something for everyone ranging from barbecue chicken to beef stifado. There is a specials board for deserts depending on the day, however I have gone for an apple crumble on both occasions and I have absolutely no complaints. There is a large range of soft and alcoholic drinks, including local greek beers. Overall I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys greek food, 10/10 every time

This is the best roast I have had by far. It came with 5 different meats and all of the trimmings! What more could you want? I am very very impressed and highly satisfied. The whole evening has been outstanding from start to finish. The roast was the perfect sized portion with 5 roasties and a huge range of vegetables including Cauliflower cheese my favourite! So much effort, thought and passion went into each component and you could tell. Cute atmosphere with lovely decor. Staff were welcoming, friendly with excellent customer service. I cannot wait to revisited and highly recommend to everyone.

Incredible food- try the lamb. High quality and very tasty. I had the meze sharer and wasnt disappointed. Great value for money. Service was excellent with staff noticing when the air con was too cold and changing immediately. Our table was also moved- not at our request but as a result of staff noticing we were sat near quite a loud party and offering us the option to move if we liked. It's this 5* service and excellent food that I would recommend. Only watch out is it does get very busy and noisey/loud as a result of being popular. I dont mind this but it was a bit overwhelming for my sister- until we were moved to a quieter spot which was perfect. Will be coming back. Thank you.

Located in the basement, easier access via Colin Campbell Car Park. Booking is not essential but highly advisable. We were a party of 16 for a surprise birthday party, so pre-booked and ordered starters and main courses in advance. This made the work of all staff much easier, which they appreciated. Food was excellent, including vegan and special dietary needs and a couple of young children. Drinks are ordered at the bar with a minimum card spend of £10. Staff were very helpful and competent as well as patient with the children and disabled members of the group. Not suited to wheelchair users as the flight of stairs is short but steep. Overall, it was good value for money and a good night out. One downside was as the evening wore on, the music got louder and conversation was impossible. That was the general consensus of the group. Having said that, everyone enjoyed the night and would recommend it to others.
