The Village Rest in Argyll & Bute

After appalling service at Duck Bay we went here for lunch. Warmly welcomed. High chair for my grandson and the lovely waitress brought a bowl of water for the dog. Food was amazing and we were able to eat it indoors without being rained on because we had the dog (as happened at Duck Bay)! She also brought a treat for the dog. This place is fabulous and welcoming. Had a wonderful lunch and will definitely be back. 5 star service and food.

Been here before. The food is very flavoursome particularly the lentil soup, the staff are so welcoming, made a fuss of our family in general. I love the fact our child was made feel like a little adult and asked personally what they would like to eat. Our pooch had it’s own doggie menu (fantastic) great kids menu and doggy menu. Will certainly visit again and again. Staff are a credit to your establishment

Stopped off for a coffee and a whisky after a walk in the Luss / Loch Lomond area. Very warm welcome and even treats for the dogs. Dogs are welcome inside and outside but we sat outside to enjoy the fresh air. We hadn't planned this visit we just popped in. Next time we are in the area we will stay longer for a meal. Allan, Lynsey, Thomas and the dogs.

Our second visit to the Village Rest and it has now become fixture on our journey to the north of Scotland. Great service, Great food and great staff. We enjoyed the beer battered fish and chips, which are never soggy, the Cajun chicken and scampi. All excellent.

Zeer vlotte en vriendelijke bediening. De sirloinsteak was perfect gegaard, zoals gevraagd. Heerlijke zelfgesneden frietjes. De chili con carne was pittig en lekker van smaak. Een heerlijke appeltaart met caramel en slagroom als nagerecht met een stevige kop cappuccino! Vriendelijke bediening ondanks de drukte! Prijs-kwaliteit prima adresje in het toeristische maar erg mooie Luss!

Another visit to The Village Rest. Food was good and service good too. We were having a quick lunch before going on a loch cruise. We all had sandwiches and not much left! Some of us had coffee and cake too. All very good. Set us up for our adventure on the high seas! (Well, Loch Lomond) Would recommend, but usually best to book as it can get very busy at times.

Great service and atmosphere, lovely non fussy food. Our dog was warmly welcomed too. And all within less than 50m of our B&B.

With our two dogs in tow we were warmly welcomed. The dogs even had their own menu too! The service was friendly, sincere and welcoming. The food represented good honest fayre, generous portions thoughtfully executed, well priced and many choices. A well run business worthy of a visit.

What's not to like? Good food, friendly staff and keen prices. Food arrived quickly and service was on point.

What a fantastic place! We needed to stop somewhere for lunch and to have a break on our way from holidays and this place is just amazing! The food was delicious, th staff very attentive, even our dog got spoil by a fantastic lunch menu.

Visited today with friends for lunch. Great menu catered for all tastes.and lots of wonderful desserts. Staff were excellent. Really helpful. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Village Rest to anyone. Thank you. 😊

The food was good and the price was OK. Apparently a popular spot for coaches, as it was packed with Spaniards at the appropriate level of noise. There was also relatively loud music in the restaurant. Full, difficult without reservation. Parking in one of the public parking spaces as the street belongs to residents and is patrolled by police.

busy day on sunny sunday. since suddenly change planning i dont do booking and just myself. even i see some empty table outside i still cant seat there and went inside that so hot in jul but fine. order scone and guinness that very good esp for scone.

Lovely, Lovely place. Cakes and Scones looked amazing. Breakfast wasn't the best ever had, bit dry and smallish for "Full Scottish". But the service was soo Lovely, 2 young ppl looking after us were absolutely amazing. I bet it would be nicer if we've gone for afternoon tea rather than Breakfast but still, really nice spot x

Awesome family restaurant with delicious food especially spicy bean burger & veg soup of the day. During our stay at Lochgoilhead in Scotland, we visited this restaurant 4 times and every time we enjoyed the food. I would recommend this restaurant to give a try n i'll definitely visit again.

Such an excellent place! Service was wonderful, and the food was delicious. My husband ordered the haggis burger and said it was the best burger he'd ever had! My mac+cheese was super too, and the coleslaw that they came with was the best I've had also. Highly recommended!

The staff was nice and the sprite was as expected. The food was nothing at all. Offering a meatball in a bun as a premium burger for 20 euros gives me the impression that I've fallen for a rip-off. The house, which looks traditional from the outside, feels more like the snack bar of a casino from the inside.

We stopped off in the village on the way to Fort William, as it was lunchtime we thought we would give the village rest a try. The menu has a bit of everything for everyone. The restaurant has a few outdoor tables and inside tables, as the weather was hit and miss we decided for a table inside. Service was quick and efficient and the food arrived in good time. Scampi, baked potato, bacon burger and chicken goujons were on the menu for us. All very nice and everyone was happy. One comment from me would be that hot plates would be nice. When we left there was a queue of people outside so get in early is my recommendation.

There was no place inside, but the weather was good so we sat outside. You placed your order directly through a window on the right and paid for it straight away. Then delivered. After the last sip, it is immediately taken from your table

Family meal with dog. All staff were so so welcoming. Lovely atmosphere and great food with good sized portions and selection. Even for veggies! Recommend the house beer, chilli and enchiladas.

We booked a table here for 1st of August for 8 of us. As it was my 60th birthday I was wearing a badge or two and of course that just prompted some teasing and good banter from your front of house host. ( I'm sorry I can't remember his name, old age creeping in I think). Anyway we got the best welcome ever. Very pleasant surroundings and a great atmosphere. Food was delicious and plentiful. Plenty of choice and something for everyone. Very reasonably priced too. Would highly recommend.

Charming building and a lovely guy front of house showing us to our table, service took slightly longer than normal but can be forgiven as they were busy but still managed to seat us without a booking. Food was as described in the menu and certainly hit the spot. Note: I’d eaten most of the chips before taking the photo, you get much more than seen

We stopped at Luss on the way to the Highlands on probably the only sunny day of the summer for food. We quickly found the village rest. It was busy and there was a queue to enter but within 10 minutes we were given the option to sit inside or out. We were seated inside and placed our order. There was a good selection of home cooked style food. The food was good, and filling. Prices were a little high but it was a good experience and we would visit again.

We stopped here on our travels for dinner on the off chance they had space after seeing it on Google maps. It did not disappoint. The atmosphere was lovely and we were welcomed with great service. The food was just what we needed, it was tasty, fresh and tasted like proper home cooking (if that makes sense) - delicious! Definitely stop by if you're in the area.

This is the best dining place ever!!!! other than the amazing food and drinks the staff were outstanding as i lost a well important item in luss and they went and searched for it until they found it and kept them in safe hands… AMAZING!

Stopped here on a bit of a whim and thoroughly enjoyed the impromptu experience. Was quickly seated with the option to sit outside or inside. I decided to go outside, where there were about 10 (ish) outdoor picnic bench-style seats. The menu was good and varied and it was a café-style menu. The food was reasonably priced and came very quickly. I ordered a feta salad with a Diet Coke which was delicious and beautifully presented and fresh. The staff were friendly and polite and cleared my plate quickly. The place had a generally nice atmosphere about it. Wouldn’t hesitate to stop here again!

In the middle of Edinburgh. Great...The beer is not for me as a Bavarian. You can only order and pay with your smartphone... well... you just have to get used to it.

Lovely staff, the food was delicious and well priced! Only issue was that the restaurant wasn't heated very well, had to eat with my jacket on. Regardless, I'd visit again 😁

Bistro is lovely. Food fantastic along with great staff. Will definitely visit again. Manager even arranged for a charger for sons phones as he was running out of battery. Definitely went above and beyond.

Best restaurant in the whole country

Our last night in Luss was spent here at the Village Rest. It was a beautiful night so we sat outside watching the tourists go by. For dinner we had thr lentil soup starter which was rich and flavourful. The steak and mushroom pie was filled to the brim with tender beef. The fish n' chips was delicious and filling. The restaurant was busy and service was efficient and friendly. We would recommend a meal here. (We think the steak and mushroom pie and the fish n chips are the most popular orders. There were 3 other orders with the exact same entrees! You can't go wrong.)

I brought my friends here as I had good memories of being there before. To be honest the food was fine but there was a major mix up with the order. The lady who took the order was very friendly and welcoming. The food arrived in the wrong order and in dribs and drabs. When we brought the problem to the attention of the lady serving the food she made us feel it was our problem by protesting that ‘ this is not the way the order came into the kitchen’ there were apologies from senior staff but still the entire experience was very disappointing especially for me bringing my friends here for the first time

I can see from the reviews that folks are very divided on this restaurant. this was one of the poorest meals we had in Scotland on our 17 day trip. We came for dinner. It was overpriced tourist food that was mediocre at best. They couldn't even deliver "hot" chocolate (It was cool to put it bluntly and the cup was only 1/2 full.) We had the smoked Salmon Caesar Salad and the Caesar Salad, The staff was not attentive, and we did not feel welcome to boot, even though we were 1 of 4 tables filled. I'm guessing more folks are agreeing with the poor reviews... We found two much better restaurants in the 2 days we were around the loch: The Clachan Inn in Drymen and The Oak Tree Inn in Balmaha are where we found locals enjoying a meal and great tasting food.

We did a quick stop at Luss during our Highlands road trip and our lunch at The Village Rest was tasty and with a quick service! Nice atmosphere and good choice of traditional food.

We popped in here for a couple of Drinks after a long day travelling/trekking, staff were super friendly and their local Lager was super tasty! Decided not to stay for food which we now regret because it looked and smelled fantastic 🤣

Great gravy with steak pie, ordered a tea pot, but got only boiled water. Told that to first waitress, then to second and finally on the till. They didn't give a damn.

Unbelievably rude manager. Told our family with pram and wheelchair to get out and wait outside for our takeaway order after paying for it as they were too busy in an almost empty restaurant to have us inside in the rain, did not allow kids to pick takeaway cakes, did not want our business. Avoid at all costs.

There is a good quality price relation. We tried the chicken wrap, highly recommended; the lentil and vegetable soups, also very good; and the steak and mushroom pie.

Dogs allowed inside and outside. Lovely outdoor area. Food delicious and good portions. Menu available for dogs.

I had the baked potato with haggis and peppercorn sauce. HAVE THE PEPPERCORN SAUCE!!!!! You will not regret it😉 Others had a “wee” (huge)scone. BLT sandwich and a baked potato with egg. Delicious food and lovely warm service, as usual. I would have posted photos but the plates were bare when I’m writing this

We thought that the supervisor was rude to her young members of staff. A young lady was dealing with our bill when the supervisor came up to her and in front of us said “ can you go and take that order on that table,OR HAVE I GOT TO DO ALL THE WORK?! “ The poor waitress couldn’t even finish dealing with us. Very unprofessional on the supervisors part. If you have something to say to your staff don’t do it in front of customers. And for the record the waitress we thought had been working hard to look after us.

Very friendly service, food however is overrated and too expensive for what you get: 12£ for a sandwich made with stale/old bread and a tiny salad drenched in dressing. The soup we ordered was also accompanied by old/stale bread (but a different kind). Can also get quite loud inside due to amount of tables.

They even had a menu for dogs. Their house Lager was bomb AF and staff were fantastic. Burgers were good too. We had a lovely time

Order takeaway coffee. By the time it was ready it was pouring rain so we found cover under an umbrella. The waiter was very rude and asked us to leave despite the heavy rain.

We stopped off here for a quick bite to eat on the way home. We were greeted by a friendly gentleman and we ordered from the lunch menu. The menu offers a broad selection of dishes to suit everyone’s tastes. I ordered a jacket potato and I was worried that it was a bit pricey and had fallen into a tourist trap, but when it arrived it was delicious and a rather large portion too - so definitely value for money. We encountered a couple of members of staff who were polite and friendly, except one lady who was quite rude. She was curt and miserable for no apparent reason. Lack of engagement with customers and seemed completely uninterested in being nice to customers. So unfortunately for this reason, I have given 4 stars. It’s a shame as I would have given 5 stars had it not been for this employee’s poor manner.

Always busy because the food is delicious.

They have limited gluten free options, including soups and jacket potatoes with various fillings. They were very attentive and can help you navigate the menu for food issues. The dessert options were more sparse. This place was one of the few places to walk in and eat in the area without a reservation.

Ate here 2 days in a row. Pretty much the only Scot who isn't afraid of spices in his food 😁 Friendliest, honest food and cordial service. Even a special dog menu with a donation for charity.

We love The Village Rest and visit every time we are up at Loch Lomond. The food is varied and good and the service is excellent. Busy evenings are worth a phone call to book as they close at 8pm but we’ve always managed to get a table no problem. Highly recommended.

Very poorly received. Empty bar. Very unpleasant staff. I go to order at the bar and I am told that I am doing it wrong, that I must go see the table number at which I wish to sit on the terrace and then come back and place my order in another area of ​​the bar. I do so and a lady tells me that I have to come out, go around the building to speak to her through a small window leading to the same place as where she is. She clearly didn't want to serve me.

A very well run cafe bistro in the pretty village of Luss. Served a very nice selection of sandwiches, snacks and drinks.

Cute and cozy space with good food and exceptional service! Unfortunately didn’t get our server’s name, but he was so kind and even printed us a list of recommendations for the Isle of Skye! The doggie menu was also super cute 😊

Lovely wee spot. Nice and warm on a cold rainy day. Staff are so friendly and welcoming. The Lentil and Smoked Bacon soup was disappointing more like a basic vegetable soup and far too salty for my taste. It was nice to sit in the warmth for a while at least.

The food was good quality pub style food and the fish was very nice. The service was great and staff friendly but the actual building could just do with a bit of a spruce up, everything is just a bit all over the place but other than that I'd definitely recommend popping in for a bite to eat

Had the fish & chips . It was very greasy . Also had a scone which was enormous but it was hard & dry. Upon checking , manager said it was baked in the morning & nobody has ever complained about the scones, so we requested to have it warmed up but it didn't make it any better. The ducks would have enjoyed the scones !
