The Village Inn Restaurant in Isle of Wight

Came in to see a friend and left with a warm contented feeling, the place is warm and cozy and very friendly, but spacious enough to not be overbearing. The food is excellent and it has to be the best burger on the island hands down, it’s huge, full of flavour and seriously tasty, highly recommend the village inn

What an awful place to try and have an afternoon tea. We sat down at 1.30pm after booking afternoon tea the evening before and the man confirmed at the time the £20 price for 2 people twice as we requested 4 people. On arriving we advised we were here for afternoon tea. The barman stood behind the bar going backwards and forwards and interrupted one conversation about ADHD and Autism that I was talking to my parents about which I found very rude. We were sat for 35 minutes before the incredibly rude barman asked if we'd made any decisions on what we wanted to eat. We replied with yes afternoon tea. He said that could be anything afternoon tea, cream tea or lunch i told him no we wanted afternoon tea, he then told us he wasn't in yesterday (not our problem as the customer) - after eventually walking out we realised there is only afternoon tea or cream tea, so not sure what he was talking about Absolutely disgusted with how we were treated and it has ruined our day. Fortunately we came across the road for lunch at The Crab which is amazing!! AVOID The Village Inn!!

A very pleasant location with friendly staff and nice ambience We came for the Sunday roast which was good value and nice size/quality. The only fault was the roast potatoes had been cooked in deep fryer and were both solid and tasted of chip fat! What a shame - such a silly mistake when serving a quality traditional roast Would return but will avoid the Roast due solely to this

We popped in at 5pm looking for a quick early evening meal before getting a ferry back to the mainland after a long weekend on the IOW. We were immediately taken by the warm, cosy, tranquil interior of the pub and the friendly welcome from the staff. We were able to get a table in a corner which was perfect for us. The menu has the usual pub fare with a few specials. We had the squid and prawn cocktail, followed by pork belly and the house burger. The food was freshly prepared, served quickly and was delicious. The portions were plentiful. All the staff we encountered were attentive and polite. The bill was reasonable too. A really pleasant experience and we would definitely visit again.

been here lots of times,Pre booked a table for food and pub was really busy ,ordered from the specials board and I had the burger (huge)and my wife had baked cod absolutely delicious,had a bit of wait for the food which annoys some people ,not us, Bottle of wine and few pints of neck oil, bill come to about £80 not to bad ,lovely atmosphere good service,my only thing is it was hard to strike up a conversation with the staff about anything,I mean anything ,all in all loved it, can't wait to go back

This is a really lovely place to eat. Food is amazing. We eat here every time we visit Shanklin and have never been disappointed. X

Charming pub in the heart of Shanklin. Very friendly staff who found us a table in the corner in what was a packed pub. We had scampi & the veggie stroganoff, both of which were delicious, piping hot beautifully presented & plentiful. There was a little wait for our meals and it was explained that everything was cooked from scratch, so we didn't mind. Prices were reasonable & service was great. Would definitely recommend this pub for drinks or food & will be back if ever we find ourselves in the area again.

Our third year visiting Shanklin and our third year having a lovely meal at The Village Inn. Staff are so welcoming and helpful, food was good and prices are reasonable. Highly recommend

It took us a while to find it because we got given the wrong directions But when we arrived we were so pleased the staff were lovely and when we ordered our food it was high tea it was made on the spot and the scones were lovely

We visited this pub for Sunday lunch yesterday. We hadn't booked, but the staff were still able to find us a table in the garden. My son has a food allergy and although the pub doesn't have an allergy menu, the female member went above and beyond to ensure my son's meal was safe for him. The roast dinners were enormous and very tasty and my other son loved his burger. The toilets were tiny but absolutely spotless. Would definitely recommend this, if you want a traditional pub experience.

Average Pub Fare. Was OK but we didn't return as we found a nicer restaurant. We felt that the staff here could have been better. Fine if there isn't an alternative and pub food is what you want.

We went in for their Sunday roast. We all said it’s one of the best we have every had anywhere including my own cooking. Very large portions and lots of different fresh vegetables. The Yorkshire pudding was filled with crispy parsnips, lovely. We will definitely be back and will recommend to all our friends.

Love the atmosphere in the pub and the lovely food. And the staff are so friendly and helpful. Try it you wont regret it and will definitely be wanting to return

While Shanklin is lovely and peiole friendly. The Villag inn is Not dog friendly anywhere .. .. rude without and no sign outside -

The attention to detail and level of service was beyond expectations. My wife is gluten free, dairy free and vegetarian so menu choices are always limited. Thd chef came to the table and discussed options and made her a special meal which was delicious. I had the ribs which covered the entire plate by itself. The rib bones just pulled clean straight out of the meat. We will be going back!

Very Nice Pub We used it for two meals during or stay in Shanklin (Evening meal and Sunday Lunch) both were excellent with big portions at very reasonable prices. On our last day we retuned for an evening drink and were recognised by the staff showing how friendly the ambiance was. Would recommend it if you want an old fashion pub with good beer and food.

Lovely pub with great food and plenty of it. Staff friendly and welcoming. better to book as it gets busy in the evenings. Good range of beers on offer. Ate here a couple of times during our recent stay.

We didn’t book and turned up on the off chance we could get a table. We were warmly welcomed and offered table service upstairs. The staff were excellent and our server was particularly helpful and attentive, unfortunately didn’t get her name . The meals were delicious and quite large. We enjoyed it so much we booked to return again during our stay.

What an amazing place service and food amazing. The guy who was incharge of the upstairs restaurant couldn't do enough for us. I had the most amazing chicken Kiev I had ever had and my partner had the baked salmon in honey and chilli dressing. All i can say is wow and an amazing old building

A great pub/restaurant, great menu choice and ample sized portions. Seems to be very popular so if going at the height of season book ahead otherwise you'll be disappointed

Myself and my partner visited the pub last night and the food was satisfactory. However we returned for a late lunch today where my partner ordered a crab sandwich which was advertised as locally sourced fresh crab. After much anticipation the food arrived. Fresh seafood as we all know should never smell strongly of fish, however this smelt like a tin of cat food and looked completely pre-processed. Eventually a member of staff appeared to clear the table at which point we offered our concern and explained in detail how awful our purchased turned out to be. In which point the young lady promised to speak to the chef, however nobody returned, no explanation offered and on leaving the premises staff were seen to be laughing and joking and having a splendid time and appeared happy to let us vacate. To add insult to injury 2 plates of lunch food and 2 drinks cost in excess of £40 and we feel some what ripped off!!! After all we don’t believe that fresh locally sourced crab should smell like cat food!!! Terrible service will not be returning

A pub with lots of seating both inside and out. The menu had a great deal of interesting dishes. Staff were accommodating as we were able to find a space in a very busy setting.
