Dirty tables, dirty floor, dirty toilet, cobwebs, Aircon unit rusty, cakes on top of counter with no covers, display units open at back so insects can get in. Cables from electric Till draping over cakes in cabinet. Ordered a chicken & bacon roll, (no ingredients poking out sides) when served to me it was egg mayo which the lady didn't notice egg smell, when opening the packet. Last month heard one staff member say "how many flies" Been in there times at 2pm, they Sweep up around you making you feel you shouldn't be there. Unfortunately, we won't be visiting again, but will go to the much nicer, cleaner, friendly stores in Newport & Ryde....

Just came to get an iced caramel latte, not a single bit of ice in it so it’s a luke warm. Crazy amount of caramel in it as well that’s all you can taste not the coffee which is a shame because the isle of white roasted coffee is what I was looking forward to trying and tasting. All the staff look absolutely miserable like they would rather be anywhere else.

Amazing cakes and pastries. I recommend the eccles cakes which are like a cross between a 'normal' eccles cake and a giant cookie. However, the so-called IoW doughnuts are very disappointing, they're solid cinnamon doughnuts with a few sultanas in the dough, no filling at all. Plenty of other yummies to have instead! Be aware they're closed on Sundays, despite their website saying they're open every day.

Not a good experience in Shanklin. Popped in for a coffee and a cake told it was takeaway only despite the fact they were still open for another 30 mins. Staff had no interest in their customers, only in getting out on time. Personally, some of the worst service I have ever received. The coffee was unpleasant, to say the least, and was binned after just a couple of sips. A really disappointing experience.

I was staying in Shanklin and needed a decent priced coffee seeing as the holiday park charges nearly £4 for something that tastes like dishwater. I decided to pop into Graces as the queue always seems to be out the door which I take as a good sign. Despite being busy I was served quickly and the coffee was lovely. I paid £3.50 for a decent coffee and a biscuit. Service was friendly. Will definitely come back during my next island visit.

We had pasties with salad and two different cakes. I'm afraid to say that everything was just.. 'Ok'. Average and nothing special. An improved salad would be nice to see. Maybe some dressing? Different leaves? The little things like this can make a huge difference! The seating area out the back could also use a bit of love. be prepared to have your purchases all but thrown in your face, and to share your drinks with the trays. i would like to think it could have been me, or a single, unsavoury, bitter old staff member tainting the service but after several trials this is clearly a shop-wide (possibly franchise-wide?) problem that is the truly horrible, entitled and downright rude way the staff treated us that made us give up after several purchases. this includes in one instance (and is a sticking point for me) that staple of british bravery: the rude gesture through a window, to a child, when you think the parents cannot see you. and i do see the irony of complaining about this on tripadvisor, but just did not want to subject any of us to more abuse. definetely a stain on Shanklin otherwise mostly friendly commercial community, which it could happily do without. oh and p.s.: if you think rainbow bunting during pride week is a sign of lgbtq+friendliness ...you've been pinkwashed.

Went in to order some breakfast and was not greeted with an ‘hello’, just ‘what do you want ‘ from the elderly gentleman. He immediately put my goods into a plastic bag then huffed and puffed when I ordered drinks to have in. He promptly threw the bag away and made it obvious that he was upset about my order. The fact that he did not even wait for me to inform him that I wanted to eat in was obvious. The coffee was great but the service is certainly to be desired! He definitely needs retraining.

today I was for my forty-fourth birthday visiting the Isle of Wight in Shanklin and the previous day before arriving searching on Google where to eventually visit a pastry shop on the spot near the hotel booked to have a birthday cake, me my partner and my 2 daughters (3, 5 year old), one of which is also called Grace, we entered with enthusiasm but we were served in the worst way that could be received, really not welcome, premise that I am Italian and respect as the basis of teaching and good education and living in this state for more than 10 years I do not always expect a welcome but in a place with few inhabitants that should also have an eye for the tourist instead the opposite happened, when they asked what i wanted I asked for a brioche asking my wife what she wanted in the meantime for her to decide and look for something suitable for our children the elderly gentleman behind the counter put mine order (incomplete) in a paper bag as if it were to take away but when I ordered him (waiting for the rest of the order from my wife) a cappuccino and my wife a latte he almost snorted looking up as if wasting a bag of paper was an immeasurable loss from there only a descent towards the abyss ... continuing the order of another 3 brioches that were placed in the tray that was in front of my eyes almost with such listlessness and lack of elegance as in the worst of pub where a loafer, well that loafer was there spend £ 22 for a birthday breakfast trying to have a good morning with his family, pay card lack of eye contact and we sat in the back room to consume, in leaving I waited until the end heading for the exit for a"have a good day" that never came and so for one of countless times I have not deigned to greet or wish good day to that old gentleman who served us in a disgusting way and the young girl in gothic music style who had not even considered us ... place to not back anymore (ps sorry for my bad English) Davide

I want to preface with the fact that I think Graces is one of the best independent bakeries in the country. I frequent the Ryde and Newport branches when I am on the island with the occasional visit to the Shanklin branch. My visit to the Shanklin branch today however, was abysmal. Me and my mother were served my an older gentleman who had no time for us whatsoever. I felt like an inconvenience to him by placing my order. When I asked for a BLT he simply fondled around the sandwiches going ‘Which one which one is it’, surely a staff member should know where their stock is? Then he couldn’t find a sausage roll directly in front of him. He made us feel as if we were making his job harder by simply ordering food and drinks, the point of a cafe. I’ve worked and trained in hospitality for many years and I can safely say that today I received some of the worst service I have ever received. No eye contact was made, no greeting as we entered, just a huff. We didn’t get thanked on the way out and wanting to pay card made him even worse. Another huff as my mom went to put her watch on the PDQ. I was very close to walking out of the place all together due to his attitude. It’s disappointing because my last visit to the Shanklin branch was so pleasant and my visits to Ryde and Newport are always great. This gentleman truly lets you down Graces and unfortunately I won’t be returning to the Shanklin branch. I would never dream of speaking to or acting the way he did to my guests in the Hotel I work in. I think customer service training may be needed for this gentleman in particular.

Ate in the cafe at Graces both in Shanklin and in Ryde. The service in Ryde was 10 times better than Shanklin We had salad & plates with our sandwich in Ryde. In Shanklin, we opened our own sandwich from the cardboard package. The coffee was great at both shops. If you want to gain great reviews, then maintain consistent service across all your outlets. For the Shanklin outlet - needs improvement.

I’m pretty confused by the other reviews. We visited here whilst on holiday from London — mainly based on the good reviews. The service was good. The food was dire. I was very surprised to find a complete lack of sandwiches other than preprepared basic packet sandwiches that looked worse than a Tesco meal deal. Whatever happened to good old fashioned cold cuts, salad on ciabatta or bread roll? Not in this bakery! I got a sausage roll and my partner a steak slice. Both were worse than you’d get at a supermarket. So greasy and poorly seasoned. And the steak slice had not a single solid piece of steak. Just gravy and mush. I daren’t imagine what meat went into the sausage roll. Definitely nothing special there. We also got two different cupcakes, an apple and toffee slice and another fruit slice. I have a sweet tooth and there are very few baked goods I stop eating. But the cakes were SO dry as to be difficult to swallow. Thank God the co-op just a few doors down sold Belgian chocolate choux buns. Anyone rating this highly needs to get out of the Isle of Wight to the many many local bakeries in towns and villages across the country that truly are 4-5 stars!

As someone who live to the rear of this bar I and many others have complained about the excessive noise, anti social behaviour, drunks flowing into the rear car park as if it part of the bar's property . They also use the car to park their vehicles as if their own yard without paying for a ticket. The children's slide and climbing area (if approved) is monitored from a distance! With all the anti social behaviour around this area the owners do nothing to help improve it; especially the noise polution this bar and it's clientele create! The "new. Management " promotion is a joke! Just the same anti social crowd! No respect for any neighbour even after the recent "noise complaint" raised with the council! Close the place as it should not have rear access / facilities within a residential area! Gives Ventnor a bad image!
