For £10 we shared a prawn sandwich . The only way to describe it was massively disappointing! 3 bits of brown supermarket bread, not even cut in half, with very few prawns dumped on our table with a few bits of salad on the side. How do they get away with serving rubbish food? Wish I'd have taken a photo!

Places like this are few and far between, which is a shame. We had lunch on a grey day, and the fire behind us was roaring! We had a burger and chips, fish finger sandwich, and a steak baguette and chips, and they were all delicious. My son maintains that this is the best burger he's ever had. We were sad to hear that this place had been sold, and hope the new owners don't change too much. Hope the landlady has a relaxing retirement after 15 years here.

We have visited this traditional pub/bar many times before over the years. We really appreciate the warm welcome by the barstaff who were very helpful. The music is great (not your run of the mill pub channel) and the food is good traditional English Pub food cooked on site. Thank you for all the years and great memories we just hope the new owners don't strip it of its character and turn it grey and beige!

Great little pub serving fab food. Stopped in for pizza, hand made, and superb. Sad to hear it's possibly going to be 'gentrified' as every village needs a 'village inn'. Great banter from the young Yorkshire (Leeds) lad behind the bar. Worth a visit!

Avoid! A long overdue refurbishment is needed. A bad attitude of the barman. Asked why our food was taking so long, he went and asked the kitchen, came back and said it will be ready in 2 minutes or you can have it raw. Cod and chips with a portion of cheesy chips does not take 20 minutes + Vacuum cleaners at the rear of bar. Disorganised and chaotic to say the least. It needs a professional person that knows hospitality inside and out.

Went for lunch last year in July of 23 and the service was great. We recently visited the Village Inn a few days ago and the service provided by the young chap with the green streak of hair, behind the bar was diabolical. The sarcasm on him and the rudeness was just uncalled for. Asking for what kind of drinks they have and to turn around and say 'this isn't a Bistro now is it?' And unable to pay separately is beyond me. We all had a cod which was cut into three pieces, the plates were thrown down on the table, not a care in the world. To top it off the young chap was sat down on his phone. Will not come here again as a shame was so nice last year. I personally work in customer service and being sarcastic and rude to people is not the way to be. My party members were explaining that we are sitting on the same table but paying separately, which shouldn't be a difficult task. When approaching the outside of the village inn, we noticed a board which states ''warm friendly welcome with a smiley face" this was not the atmosphere we felt. Disappointing!

Really big portions, however, there were three different things wrong with my meal. They did give a refund just under the value of that particular dish. My partner complained for me but it did feel like the staff would rather talk to him than me. Service was not fast including ordering. Felt a bit out of place. Decor needs more doing to it and it is a bit dirty inside (pulled curtains with mould stains facing customer seating). Saw many groups walk in and right out. Looks like a lovely place traditional old pub menu looks good so we decided to eat here. We ordered two burgers it wasn’t particularly busy! we waited over an hour ,another table left because they had waited so long. We would have also left but we had already waited so long and were so hungry ! I asked for no onion rings on the burgers due to an allergy and one came with them . The chicken burger was nice and the beef burger was clearly frozen out of a box not homemade and was so dry. The guy on the bar didn’t seem bothered he didn’t apologise for the wait nor did he ask how our food was, he was more interested in watching the rugby on the tv really disappointed

We popped i to the Village inn after reading the menu outside. 12.50 for lamb seemed a decent price compared with other places in town. Food arrived after about 20 minutes which was fine. Good plate full to be honest with a decent amount of well cooked veg in a separate dish and a very plump yorkie. Only complaint would be not enough gravy. Could do with a tidy up inside too as it was a little scruffy in places.

Refused entry because one of the guys was wearing a tank top .. staff pointed at the wall and said we have a no shirt no entry policy.. so wearing a tank top counts as being shirtless does it? Menu says food served all day, but guy behind the bar said kitchen not open until 4:30, realised we were tourists and then said Kitchen open at 6, but people were getting served food the whole time we were there. He turned the lights off where we were sat. 8 out of 9 of our group were having a drink (alcoholic and non alcoholic) but he rudely told us all to leave because 1 person didn’t buy anything. This is a great place for anyone who wants to feel highly unwelcome. So unwelcoming, we were told that anyone without a drink must leave, despite 7 out of 8 of us having bought drinks. Bossman turned the light off in our corner of the pub, and kept changing the timing of the kitchen opening so that we wouldn’t stay! Friendly staff. We had the steak from the specials board and it was excellent. Cooked exactly to our requirements. Came with chips, onion rings and salad. All in all good quality and good value.

Quirky, interesting pub with an exceptional barman - Connie. Enjoyed a lunchtime drink so much, compelled to return the same evening. Well kept ale, fine selection of malt whiskeys and friendly locals.

We’ve been recommended to go here for Sunday lunch by several friends. We gave it a try today and it was delicious. The roast potatoes and meat was fantastic, there was a great selection of accompanying vegetables and sides, the gravy was amazing & to make it all even better it was very reasonably priced. We called last minute and were still made to feel very welcome. I’d recommend for everyone to go and give it a taste.

Had a very good long weekend break in the recently refurbished bedrooms. Could not fault the staff who helped us during our stay.

It was very busy and I'm not a fan of town centre pubs. However, for a quick drink before the theatre this was a perfect stop

Poor service. Impolite staff. Terrible food. No wonder it was the only place with seats available when everywhere else was busy. Avoid avoid avoid.
