Fish and chips that seemed to come straight from the freezer. The batter was then overcooked. So the food was disappointing. The place was almost empty so had no atmosphere. But that wasn’t anyone’s fault and the service was friendly and efficient.

First time at this place,we are her for a few days, Stopping at a cttage ,food is fantastic,service first class, price very good, we will call again in the next couple of days.Great.plus drink & wine beer.

The menu is very diverse, everyone will find something to their taste. Delicious food, pleasant atmosphere and good service.

Butcombe not great and barman with a beard should work outside customer svc not friendly or welcoming! And a lazy short measure ... Didn't make you aware of it because I couldn't be bothered - won't come again.

Chloe is an outstanding waitress, who has a fantastic way with all her guests nothing too much and the food is fantastic, the chef Jason always delivers an ample amount of food too much to eat sometimes, , good food good atmosphere highly recommend

I came here for the charity boxing event. What a night! Amazing food, quality staff and the land lady Karen is lovely! Will definitely be returning again, one of the best nights iv had in ages. Very welcoming and the atmosphere in this place will make it hard to leave, anyone passing should stop by.

Went with partner who is wherlchair user. Staff were so helpful and even cut his food up in the kitchen before serving. ( meal was wonderfully presented) .All staff were very caring polite and professional. Food was homemade tasty and plenty of it. We will definitely be going back xxx thankyou

Absolutely lovely. Went here today for Sunday lunch, family of four. The place is decorated so nice large outdoor area which we took full advantage of in the lovely sunshine. The staff were so attentive and nice really excellent service. The food was stunning and so much of it. First time here but won't be out last, our new favourite place.

Lovely large car park, ramp for disabled access. Staff were very friendly, place was beautifully decorated, fresh flowers on the table. Food was amazing, good size portions and came out very hot. Will be recommending to others and returning.

We visited this restaurant today for a family gathering. The service was friendly and efficient and the 3 course Sunday lunch was fabulous. If we didn’t live in Berkshire we would back to enjoy on a regular basis.

We had Sunday roast today (19/5/24) all we can say is OMG! Roast beef and chicken filled with stuffing, wrapped in bacon. Roasties, new pots, roast parsnips, yorkies filled with stuffing, cabbage, carrots, peas, cauli cheese and extra gravy! ALL for £12.95! Stunning ingredients cooked to perfection with excellent, friendly service. Highly recommend

We hired a function room at The Village Inn for around 30 people. The pub team did an amazing job, providing great buffet food with several choices, being amazingly flexible in the run up to the event, and all within lovely spacious setting.

Portions were big, staff were nice and overall just nice

Just moved to the area and tried this establishment on several occasions; excellent food & service. Oh dear oh dear👎I took my family (8 people) to this establishment today (23/12/2023) to find a complete disaster which was quite embarrassing having said how good it had been on previous visits. Service was awful, the girl who took our order was, to be polite, completely useless/unfriendly. My wife’s main course did not arrive despite the order having been read back to us. Very annoying to get one’s food 15 minutes after the other seven of us. When finally received it clearly had been heated for too long in a microwave and came with cold chips. My peas were both not cooked and cold. A drink did not arrive until chased up. Others found cold poor food. VERY DISAPPOINTED after previous experiences. Very likely will now never return which is a great shame as it is effectively our local. Your loss as over the coming years we would have been regular customers and would have spent many hundreds/thousands of £s.

I have been in a couple of times with my wife since it changed ownership. Been very happy on those occasions. Very extensive weekday menu and a very good Sunday Roast. The food has been great, portions are large and the service very good. Only minor point was that our Sunday roast dinners were not as hot as we would have liked but overall not enough of an issue to raise at the time. Will definitely go again.

Took my parents and my wife and boys for a late lunch on Saturday 23rd September. To be honest I wasn’t expecting such a fantastic meal and service. But our village pub did us proud. Clean and tidy. The young lady who served us was fantastic and then the food……. We were spoilt by both the quality and quantity. I wholeheartedly recommend going. And if management read my post. Please pass on to the lady who served us and the duty chef. We will certainly be returning. Thank you.

Had meals here today with my son and his girlfriend. Absolutely beautiful and the price is very good. Staff were polite and helpful. We will be returning sorry didnt take any pics as the food looked so good we just dived in😂😋😋

The food was good but the staff were rude and seemed to have a disdain for the customers We visited on Saturday 27th, we were a larger group of 9 and after a lukewarm reception we ordered drinks. We asked for a couple of drinks and were told that you didn't have, which was fine but later when the rest of our party arrived the exact drinks we had originally asked for where offered to them. They however were told you didn't do Ale!! Even though doombar was clearly available at the bar. Anyway after the drinks confusion we ordered food with no issues, which arrived promptly and was good quality. We were just finishing our meals when another member of staff came up to the table and announced in a sharp tone "don't put rubbish in the glasses, there are bins" before then swiping some empty glasses off the table and stomping off. We all looked at eachother slightly surprised by the interaction and then looked around for the bins to only see one the far side of the garden. On the day we visited there was a gentle breeze which is why we had put the sauce packets into one glass to stop them from being blown across the garden, simply turning the glass upside down over a bin they would have fallen out as they were not stuffed or wedged hard. The final icing on the cake was when it came to paying the bill, we paid it all in one go as we did not want to be a hassle splitting it but through out the paying process we where hassled and pestered for a tip. Needless to say after our experience we did not feel a tip was appropriate.

We live local and decided to try this pub when we had guests staying. We left feeling really disappointed. The food was really below standard. My friend ordered fish and chips. The fish was a cheap breaded piece of fish that you’d expect from a box from Iceland. Dry and over cooked. I had lasagne which had been warmed up and then cold cheese sprinkled over the top. The other meals were also not very good. The only decent thing was the side of vegetables. We had asked the waitress what she’d recommend and she said wrap of the day. My friend asked what the lamb chops were like and she said they weren’t worth ordering?! The staff were friendly however the food does really let this local down. It’s not on par with other local pubs in the area. It’s such a shame, but I think they need to get a proper chef in or some training as it’s really not worth a visit if you’re looking for some good pub grub. Would visit again however if the food was better. Sorry I can’t reply to your comment - we came on the 30th April, you had a bouncy castle. My friend 100 had breaded fish. I looked at the photos on the other reviews and I can say our food wasn’t like that. The fish or the lasagne. We were excited to come as its u see new management we’d heard. The waitress did ask. However, it’s pretty hard to rectify 4 adult meals and you had a bus of stags turn up and were busy once we had had our food served.

Lovely pub, not crowded and service was excellent.

The food is absolutely beautiful the price is very good also well worth every bit we went for a family meal. I would highly recommend. We will all be going there in future. Staff were brilliant also polite, amazing with table service definitely give higher than a five star A*******

My local. Used to have a reputation for good food, well cooked hearty fare. A weekday visit to grab an evening meal. The order was for a beef lasagne and a Hunters Chicken. The waitress was keeping all the balls in the air behind the bar, taking orders and serving the food and responding with a smile and chat. The food when it came was a surprise. The Hunters chicken was created with char grilled meat and two slices of processed cheese on top. Upon eating the chicken was cooked to a crisp. Most was so tough it could have been used as biltong. The lasagne had been heated to a crusty black top. Chatting on way home we couldn't think of a worse meal we had had since a pub served us soup with a Brillo in it We so want this place to succeed but they need to sort the kitchen out

Food is great at good value & fast service. Much better since the pub has been under new management. Pies were incredible, lasagna was great and the lamb chops were HUGE!

This pub has been taken over by new owners. They have reopened recently after doing some renovations, which looks great! The pub has a TV for sports on one side and the dining room on the other. We went to grab a meal and watch the football. We were told they would allow us to order from the pubs tv area side only this one time and normally only serve food in the dining area. This was a disappointment. If we're going out to watch the football, we usually get food or snacks and a couple of drinks. So we may not watch sports here in the future unless that changes. The food was nice. My spouse loved his pie. My fish was also tasty 😋. We'll go back for the food. Hopefully, they will start a pub quiz or some entertainment of some sort. 😀

Turned up after lunch time (3.30pm) but were happy to serve us food. Amazing Sunday lunch - pork & beef - tastiest around here. - great staff polite and friendly nothing too much trouble. even gave us bacon for the dogs! Desserts were so tasty and very nicely presented. Can’t recommend enough. Great value for money.

Disappointed with their fish and chips ,went for lunch with friends and wouldn't go back, their sweet was nice and all of us enjoyed that ,but we would have paid more for a decent piece of fish and home made chips .The waitress was very nice and helpful,and maybe other meals on their menu are good but we're not going back

Lovely place to visit, good food and great service

As we’re staying in Sedbury we spotted The Village Inn and thought that would be ideal for our 1st night here. We weren’t disappointed. Firstly, our dog was very welcomed inside. The staff are all really friendly and helpful. We went for 3 courses and again very pleased with the food and the service. The special burger was brilliant and reasonably priced. My favourite bit was the dessert, my Eton Mess was delicious. We highly recommend coming here. Thank you, we may very well be back.
