Lotus in Forest of Dean

Not been here was a while usually go to Folk and Spoon. I thought the food was pretty poor compared to how it used to be! Had Cantonese style chicken, was really chewy and tasteless. Prawn Toast was soggy! Think I'll stick to Folk and Spoon .

I just had to leave a review which is unusual for me... but .. We just ordered £40 worth of food for the family. (Cash Only!) Where do I begin? Chicken in Satay Sauce was more like Pigeon in toilet water. Prawn Toast tastes like vinegar. Vermicelli taste like mouthwash. I think this is left over food from a while ago, and definitely not fresh. Sorry to leave a bad review but it's complete honesty. Such a shame we will never return. The rice is nice and prawn crackers are ok.

Lovely food,Just a takeaway now so no restetaunt. Only takes cash now too. So watch out for a visit from the VAT man.

Best Chinese in the forest by far! Never have a bad experience! All the girls are lovely and nice to see the owner serving food and speaking to customers aswel! Always have a lovely welcome, food is always amazing! Can't fault it at all!

Served straightaway, friendly staff, good food

Lovely place, brilliant people the food is great but the only small problem is the chicken in the curry is a bit chewy and grissely but other than that fantastic result I'd recommend it 😀 👍

This is probably the most disappointing takeaway I've had. The food wasn't disgusting but it just tasted bland and also tasted a bit weird. Usually with a Chinese takeaway I will go back for seconds until I'm bursting from the seams. This time I barely finished my plate.

Order from here when in the area with family. Wasn't very tasty, would even say bland. Special fried rice was watery, which I have never seen. Rest was very mediocre , unfortunately.

Great takeaway with fresh ingredients

Recently moved to area and found this place, and what a find it was. Food was absolutely fantastic I would highly recommend it! The lamb in honey sauce was unreal! Service was prompt would defo order again!

My nephews neighbour recommended this Chinese restaurant. They don’t deliver, so had to go into Cinderford to order and collect. Staff very friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is quite lovely inside. By the looks of things, it’s operating as a takeaway rather than a sit in restaurant. We waited for around 15 - 20 minutes for our food. It didn’t disappoint. Absolutely delicious Chinese food!

It's been a long time since we had a meal from here. Unfortunately we were disappointed in the meals we had. I'm sorry to say most of it went in the bin. Meals here used to be second to none, but honestly I was disappointed.

Just had a take out today ordered duck in black bean sauce.chicken satay sweet and sour chicken and lemon chicken.the satay was not very good no taste of peanut or spices.the lemon chicken was vile the chicken was steeped in bottled kid lemon Juice.called then to complain they said I would get discount next time I go in I said not interested just refund me for the lemon chicken.they said I had to come back to get the refund processed .Not worth the 8 mile round trip.not happy

Very accommodating for picky eaters

I haven't been into Lotus for many years, didn't realise it was now only offering takeaway service. We were not disappointed with both the speed of the service providing our ordered food with only a short wait but thoroughly enjoyed the food when we got back home which was still hot enough without needing to be warmed again! Food always excellent, friendly staff

Ive ordered from Lotus almost every time I've been to Cinderford in the evening and I can say it's the best Chinese Takeaway I've ever had. The service is quick , easy and flawless. The menu is amazing and I always order something randomly off the menu, that way I can experience some new delicious food. They have a wide variety of meals and you obviously get prawn crackers if you order over a certain amount.

We always come here for our Chinese. Last night we were disappointed. The chips and chicken balls were overdone borderline burnt. Very disappointed

We always like to find a local Chinese when camping and following some research of reviews we settled on this place… it was amazing quality and service. Everything was as ordered - hot, freshly cooked with delicate flavours and on time. I don’t believe they deliver but the quality is worth travelling for. I ordered a dish I hadn’t had before - crispy lamb in chilli and honey sauce and I will be searching the local Chinese restaurants for it when I get home (they do a chicken version of lamb isn’t your thing), I highly recommend giving it a try. We will be using them again and remembering for future visits.

Oh dear drove from Ross to get a meal, looking forward to it for tea, checked that it opens at 5.30 on a wednesday, but sadly closed. What a shame!

First class Chinese. The best In a VERY long time. I recommend the crispy lamb with honey. The prawns were succulent not over cooked. Service was excellent and good value for money. Staying at Forest Barns for the week…May see you again before we leave …

First time here. 2 ladies taking orders were very friendly and helpful. Food was amazing.

I truly wish I'd found this place ages ago! I ordered a takeaway last night for my Mum's birthday and she loved it, we all did. The quality of the food was as good as anything I've had London, let alone the wilds of the Forest. We will definitely be back. If you ever do cookery courses, I'd sign up!

we have only ever had a takeaway from Lotus and it is always so good. I highly recommend the honey chili chicken. It is always clean and very prompt service. I find the prices a little more than other Chinese restaurants in the area and portions are slightly smaller but more than happy to pay for the freshness and quality of the food. staff are always friendly. usually easy to find a parking space somewhere on the road outside.

I have never had a bad takeaway from this place and would definitely recommend. The only disappointing things is not being able to get it delivered.

Beautiful food my favourite Chinese 😍

Tonight had a takeaway. Wasnt anywhere near the usual standard. We paid a substantial amount of money. The lemon chicken consisted of 12 bits of chicken with huge amount of pineapple floating in a very weak and runny lemon water type sauce. The chicken was chewy and wasnt at all nice. We've always enjoyed our food from here before but won't be using this place again.

Fresh tasting crisp non greasy food. Large portions. Absolutely delicious. Fast service with a smile. Will come again and this will be a regular.

Excellent vegetable chow mein, salt and pepper king prawns and kung po roast pork. Hong Kong sweet and sour was good but not enough sauce. Overall good quality Chinese takeaway.

Nice service there but the food was a bit disappointing, i ordered a chicken chowmain, but got chicken carrots an chowmain in a tub with GRAVEY, what Chinese puts gravey on there chowmain. Not a nice combo at all. Would of been nice to have been worned about the gravey coz i hate the stuff lol

The cuisine here is unexpectedly good! The decor and ambience is very tired and dated but the actual food is really very good. The take away menu not so tasty but eating in the tiny restaurant is a real treat for taste buds. The Special Chow Mein is a meal in itself and we always take some home in a box. The Sizzling Filet Steak is to die for and worth every penny. Essential to book at weekends as this place is somewhat of a victim of it's own success and can get fully booked very early. Avoid hen nights!

Regularly order a takeaway from the Lotus. Staff are really friendly and food is great. There’s a small restaurant area too if you want to have a proper night out.

It's a good Chinese. Have had loads of meals from them all good.

Order quite often from here and the food is gorgeous however if you book in advance for collection beware of the wait time. We’ve had a few orders pre booked for 1.5 hours / 2 hours time and turned up to wait a further 30 minutes. But the food is second to none so worth the wait. Just something to bare in mind :-)

Can't remember how many times visited. 1st place we ate on moving to Forest from London many years ago. Lovely service. Not the cheapest and rightly so. Good choice on menu food well prepared and presented. Been as a couple with family and friends. If we have visitors it is the place we go if Chinesse is wanted. Good take away as well. Best Chinese Restaurant in Cinderford. OK it is the only Chinese Restaurant in Cinderford but that doesn't alter the fact that the food is fantastic and the service is of the highest standard. If you are ever in the Forest of Dean don't miss this gourmet delight.

Can only judge the takeaway experience as I haven't eaten in the restaurant. Quick preparation of the food, large portions, everything piping hot and absolutely delicious. Reasonable pricing too. Couldn't be happier.

This Chinese restaurant/take-away is one of the best I have been to.I had the duck with pancakes and as I don't like the sauce what comes with the duck they let me choose another one.We also had the Cantonese Sweet and Sour Chicken yummy. Vermicelli noodles these were quite spicy but my partner enjoyed them.Sticky ribs were very lean very enjoyable.The staff were very friendly and were very helpful.Looking forwards to our next visit.

Great selection, good sized portions, nice tasting and not too greasy. There was a 30 minute wait for collection, which is pretty good for a Saturday evening. Will definitely order again.

Myself and two friends recently had a meal at the Lotus, it was excellent. The staff were helpful and friendly. Only criticism I can make is that the crispy seaweed could have been a bit warmer, but maybe if we had asked they would have dealt with it, but it was lovely all the same. I would certainly eat there again, but as it’s only a small restaurant you need to book a table.

What a brilliant find! We are in the area on holiday and tried out this Chinese for a takeaway yesterday for dinner.

Food high standard and service very good staff are very attentive and polite.

Ordered early and was able to collect in 20 minutes. On weekends this can be a much longer wait, but well worth the wait. Food is excellent, portions are quite large for one person. Staff are very good and friendly. Would recommend this one always.

Overpriced for a very average Chinese takeaway

Ordered a chicken chow mien from here for the first time in 9 years and it was swimming in grease. Half the tub was full of it. There also wasn't much taste tbh, it was very bland.

Best Chinese in the Forest of Dean by far

We've not been out for a Chinese meal in a while and Hubby fancied crispy duck so we chose to go back to Lotus. It's local, we know what we're going to get, the staff are friendly and the restaurant is small, clean and tidy,

As a family, we've gone out for meals and had takeaways quite often from lotus. We always enjoy our meals and rarely end up over eating. Portions are great to share between a family of four. Occasionaly the duck dishes can be on the tough side and sauces a little thin. Other than that, cannot fault the lovely food

We go back and back and back.... it’s the best Chinese food in the Forest of Dean, and the crispy shredded chilli beef is remarkable. It shatters in your mouth, but in a good way!

Best Chinese in cinderford. Probably cost a Bob or 2 more than the others but tastes much better. Always best to phone in advance because it could be a long wait otherwise.

Growing up in hong kong i have a kinship with good chinese food and at times have often become somewhat tired of Chinese take away menus being so repetitive...
