Friendly polite staff. Very welcome and efficient service. Sadly the food let them down. The food looked straight from the freezer. Lasagne swimming in liquid, halloumi cold with burnt griddle lines on it, bun burnt griddle lines and cold too.

Another amazing Sunday lunch today at the Village Inn! The food never disappoints, staff are lovely and service excellent. It was very busy today (which is good to see) so I would recommend booking in advance. If you want quality ingredients, cooked to perfection served piping hot The Village Inn is place for you (reasonably priced too)

Food was superb and tasted great and was very reasonably. 4 of us had two drinks each and all had starters and main courses. The bill was less than £100. Really awful rude staff. Had a bowl of bleach thrown over the floor by the bar maid in a fit of temper over some false accusation of sickness. Went into speak to her she put out her hand to prevent me from speaking and told me to get out. How rude. She then failed to act when a mixed race man verbally abused me. She has further abused me on messenger, I will not set foot in this establishment until the staff have been changed. The response from my complaint was all factually incorrect information and further abuse. This woman is clearly not up to the job.

Really nice evening at the Village Inn, varied menu and very good food in large portions at good prices. The service was also excellent and friendly. The covid health stuff was well handled- not intrusive but carefully done.Next time we eat there we'll skip the starters to leave room for one of their puds, which looked good, but we just couldn't manage another mouthful.

Went in for a meal with my mother, it was good. Kind staff and got drinks as soon a we were seated, after we ordered took around 20 minutes for the starters to come. The starters were nice I had the halloumi fries and mum had the squid. The squid was over powered but tasty. Then the mains came out they were both very good but the beef was chewy. The deserts were both very good also.

I attended a lunch at this pub with friends. My mushrooms starter was only luke warm but tasted ok. The main course roast of the day was beef. It turned out to be dry and tough as old boots. The vegetables were only passable. My desert, a crumble, was very nice and that’s why I have scored the pub 2 stars instead of one star. The meal was cheap but WAS cheap! I don’t think I would go there again. I should have sent the beef back but don’t enjoy confrontation. If they can’t get it right I find it better to vote with my feet and they were happy to walk out of there.

We were holidaying in the area and The Village Inn is the nearest pub within walking distance. We took a walk down so that we could have a drink in the garden with our two children and dog. Unfortunately, we were informed upon arrival that there was no children under 14 allowed due to Covid 19. I’m all for establishments being responsible but have not heard of this rule being imposed anywhere else throughout the pandemic. We were practically the only ones in the garden and my 4 year old would not have entered the building itself. We left feeling very confused! It was a shame as we had planned to eat there the following night. We would be very interested to find out the thinking behind this but it wasn’t explained!

We had a lunchtime meal with friends recently, £9 for three courses. Yes, £9. And it was excellent. Lots of choice, something for everyone. Our main course was roast beef and it was expertly cooked and very tasty, lots of tender beef and roasties with a good selection of vegetables. We could have had two courses for £7 but the puddings sounded so tempting that we succumbed to those too and didn’t regret it. The pub was nicely decorated and the ambience was good. I would definitely recommend eating there.

Quite a long wait for the meal, but lots of apologies. When the meal arrived it was just reasonable for a roast, unusual combination of vegetables, red cabbage with carrot and parsnip, was offered cauliflower cheese which didnt arrive, we asked for it and when it arrived part of the cauliflower was mouldy and the cheese sauce didnt look or taste like cheese sauce, just watery, we told the waitress who didnt show a lot of interest. The gravy was good and the meat was very tender.

Not only did we have to wait nearly an hour for the food, but when it arrived it was inedible. The jacket potato was burnt, the fish so over cooked that the batter couldn’t be eaten and the inside was dry and tasteless, and the peas were stone cold. Really disappointed that they would even think it was acceptable to serve food in that state!

This young lady was , in my opinion the best bar maid that had worked here since the pub changed hands . The atmosphere was awful so we didn’t stay . Last minute decision to go out for an early mother's day meal. Having eaten here on many occasions, all be it lunch time, it was an easy decision to book here for an evening meal. The restaurant was a little busy. Food appeared to be slow on delivery. We are selves waited a good 30 minutes for our meal. No communication from staff apologising for delay. Both my son and my meal were messed up. Into my meal, realised I was missing an item from my plate, up on speaking to the waitress, she then mentioned she hadn't long found out, yet this wasn't mentioned on arrival of the food. We were offered a discount as a gesture. Many thanks. I did feel on this occasion,a special occasion was dampened slightly. I will return at a later date of an evening, to give another try. Such a shame, what normally is a nice dining experience........

only rated at 1 star as must leave a rating. Exceptionally disappointing - Just a really bad place to eat with no effort applied to the food served. Menu has many items crossed through with even items uncrossed not available (fish pie). When the mains arrived the surf and turf was lacking the prawn skewer and when asked about the reply was that the menu was changing - this was not advised when we ordered but could have easily been sorted if they had offered more scampi. The carbonara was made with burnt, fatty bacon, the hunters chicken was lacking in barbecue sauce (must have been out off season) and the Italian burger was made with mozzarella so wet it soaked the bun to the point of being inedible. Hopefully it will improve with the new menu but I am not hopeful as management don’t have a clue. We paid for drinks and the starters though they were just as poor and left.

AT first things were going well, we found out that there was only a sunday lunch on the menu on a sunday, it would have been nice to have a option from the normal menu. The food we had was very nice, but one of the waitresses was quite rude, slatting a drink down and also the 1 desert that we ordered. She then went on to drop a clean knife from the kitchen on to the restaurant floor, and then instead of putting it back in the wash it went into the cutlery tray along with the other cutlery.

I used to come here around 3 years ago and the food was wonderful, then it went downhill for a bit and I am pleased to say that the quality is even better than before! You really cant go wrong on price, quality and quantity here. It has it all! You can have a two course meal during the week before 7pm for a tenner with a good choice of food or you can have a steak or chicken dinner for 2 including a bottle of wine for £20!! Thing is it's not of a cheap standard either. I am very fussy when it comes to quality and I must say, this place ticked all the boxes. The menu is very interesting with extensive choice, the chips are hand cut and cooked and the service is very friendly. I can't believe I have been missing out on this place for so long. We went here for something to eat and we had heard there was a band playing. Good parking and restaurant was virtually empty so didn’t have to wait to get served. However, the whole evening was ruined by a group of drunk yobs. They were chanting football songs, accosting people as they left the restaurant, shouting, blocking the entrance. The pub emptied apart from a few more civilised people who were hiding away from the yobs. The landlady seemed oblivious to it all and did nothing to control this. This pub restaurant will fail if this continues to be allowed. We will never ever go there again and we suggest you do the same.

Popped in by chance after our hike. Welcome was really friendly by the barmaid and that was echoed at the table by a really bubbly and helpful young lady. The menu was quite substantial in choice and we were advised you can have chips, jacket potato or vegs Or a mix as we wished. Although the ordering took a little while it was lovely. The fish pie was full of quality ingredients, the begs fresh hot and 4 types and the chips were proper home made. The steak pie was full of lean meat, had a thick gravy and tasted great. The jacket potato was cooked spot on and we were amazed at the low price for such food. You can select little or large for many of the meals and no one seemed to complain. Can I say that the lady did say the IT system was down and she had to do orders manually - irrespective, the meal was worth the wait and the staff as nice from start to finish. A great find.

We popped in for a Saturday evening meal, date night with my lovely wife. We walked down and after 13 years of living literally 10 mins walk this is the first time we have gone in there. We were greeted with a smile and even the locals (we didn't know) greeted us. We got a drink at the bar, shown to a table and the young waiter was on the ball. We had a shared starter followed by a £20 meal for 2 including a bottle of wine! We weren't expecting much but the combo starter was a healthy size including wedgies, chicken, salad, onion rings, deep fried brie, mushrooms and varies sauces for £7.50. The main was a really good portion. My wife had steak and ribs (really tender and probably 10oz), mushrooms, onion rings, chips and salad. I had the mixed grill with steak, lamb and pork chops, gammon, chicken, chips and salad. Add to that a bottle of Jack Rabbit rose included in the price and £20 is extremely reasonable. How long this offer is on for I don't know but worth a visit if it's still on and dare I say, still worth a visit if it's not.Live music started at 9:00pm which sounded pretty good but we had finished so made our way out. Arrived at 17:00 to be told that the kitchen did not open till 18:00; which was not, in itself, an issue. Bought a drink and then read the menu. The staff were polite although the locals were unwelcoming and it appeared that visitors are an event for discussion. Having made my selection, at 18:00 went into the restaurant; which is quite pleasant, open plan area, not a place for an intimate meal but clean and presentable. I ordered immediately, sat back and waited, and waited and waited. 45 minutes later my food arrived, a mixed grill. Nothing out of the ordinary or particularly culinarily challenging: rump steak, gammon, lamb, Pork, sausage and chips but the only thing that was hot was the sausage. The rest was tepid, boarding on stone cold. I took one mouthful and took it back from whence it came. I was offered a second attempt but as it had taken 45 minutes for the first I declined paid for my drink and left... never to disturb the blissful peace of this hostelry again. The staff were polite, apologetic but ultimately responsible for awful service.

We have eaten sunday lunch here a few times and it is brilliant value for money and very nice. Also we held a charity event here on the weekend. The staff were very helpful and the management were generous and assisted us in ensuring our day went smoothly. Highly recommend the Village inn. If it is a bite to eat, a nice drink or even a social or family event, the Village inn is the place.

We visited this pub on a pre-booked night out & meal for 27 people. We thought that the food was average, not good & the service was slow. May be just an off night but I would not visit again.

This pub was always "The Fishermans Arms" in Sedbury, locally always known as "The Fish", it has moved upmarket quite successfully and is still firmly in Sedbury although Tripadvisor list it as Chepstow. Sedbury is actually in England whilst Chepstow is in Wales ! We went for Dinner after a long, hard day moving house. The welcome was lovely, we had reserved a table but there was plenty of room in the light and airy restaurant. They were offering a deal of two meals and a bottle of wine for £20.00 and the dishes on offer included a steak at £9.95 if bought separately. The wine that we chose was a very nice Merlot. I had the rump steak which although not huge was really good and cooked to perfection (rare). (I enjoy my steak this way and I find that it is very hard to hide dodgy meat that is served rare). Others had pies of various sorts and although very generous and tasty the pastry was a bit hard. They were, however, proper pies with shortcrust pastry top and bottom and not these abominations in a dish with a puff pastry lid. Our friends are going back today to try the Sunday lunch, which shows how impressed we were. Easy to find, ample free parking ( not sure what "validated parking" means ) but not in Chepstow !

We were looking for some pub food that was not from a chain and looking for some winter home cooked food... The prices were more than reasonable with a great seection of meals at an affordable price to suit most pockets. We booked a table and made our way to the pub!Karys our server was fantastic, very attentive, friendly and genuine unrobotic service which is rare in a lot of places..The food was ordered from the evening menu and we both decided to go for the Steak & Ale pie which I have to say was fantastic, this pie is VERY hearty with a generous portion of meat and lots and lots of mash potato, it was a perfect amount and tasted fantastic and fresh. The atmosphere in the pub was friendly and the separate dining area is fab with views over the lovely gardens.I am booking now for Sunday lunch, it was spectacular, we cannot wait to return for that perfect home cooked hearty food and service with a genuine smile to match!Thank you!

Had a great meal in August and decided to return with wife. Regrettable as chef had left and standards were not even close. A real shame as the food previously was exceptional. Watch this space.

We called in for lunch one Saturday in September on our way to Chepstow. Followed signs from The A48. Less than half mile off main road. Bright newly furnished pub restaurant with tidy pleasant gardens around. Service was quick and cheerful. Lunch menu fair with a specials board. We had coffee for starters as driving. Starters were truly magnificent and tasty. Mains from the specials board were really tasty and good sized. We had no room for sweets. Tea or coffee to finish. Truly excellent value - about £55 for 4 adult meals and 8 beverages. No question we would certainly go again.

Tasty grub and plenty of it! What proper quality pub food should be. Flavourful and with quality ingredients without being faffy, and a lovely set of staff

My husband and I tried to get tea and cake yesterday afternoon. I am disabled and struggled into the garden to be met by a very unhelpful man who simply said 'its lunch' in response to my husband's polite query! When he enquired further, the response was: 'I'll get you a menu but if you just want tea, there's a tea bar over the road!' Needless to say we didn't bother or wait for the menu! Proprietor should remember it's the customers that keep businesses like this going and respond appropriately! Like another reviewer comments: Bring a packed lunch and enjoy the riverside beauty!!! The person we encountered was really rude and unhelpful!

Been before and was disappointed , left it a while hoping things had improved but sadly still very poor quality. The fish was thin inside the batter, and had zero flavour . No flaking or creaminess to the fish at all just tasted of nothing really. Not a big chip fan anyway but had a small scoop but they turned out to be dried out brittle short what we used to call scrumps and were normally thrown out . But anyway they served them and charged handsomely for them . Needless to say they went straight into the bin . Most disappointed as it used to be top notch , with nice lemon wedge and paper wrapped . Now the carbon wastage via cardboard boxes and paper and plastic is diabolical . Sadly won't bother anymore , but good luck anyway. Cheers Fred

Very welcoming, accepts dogs, good English food, very reasonably priced and lovely service. Inside it’s a bit worn down and dated but didn’t bother us as it had everything we wanted.
