The village diner in Bridgend

I have been going to this cafe for years on and off and have never thought to leave a review. I have to say I love the feel of this place. Full of regulars which in itself says something about the food snd the staff. Never ever had a bad breakfast, lunch or dessert here. Full cooked breakfast and chicken curry are my favourites.

We went in. For. Lunch Lots of Tables uncleared with food piled up very off putting Food took ages to come out and at that point there were four dirty Tables which attracted the flies very disappointed Especially as They walked past the tables to bring the food NOT GOOD ENOUGH she was on her phone. all the time

Been coming here for years. Never had a bad meal. Home made cakes and food are so nice. Corned beef pie lovely. Usual buy a desert to take home. Have used for take away Sunday dinner. Very nice.

We have just returned after having Sunday lunch at the Village Diner in Ewenny. I just had to write about our experience. I last went approx 9 months ago and wrote a review, that after we had been going for years, how disappointed because I felt that the deliveries were overtaking the cafe. I HAVE GOT TO SAY, THAT HAS ALL CHANGED. I had a beautiful cooked Sunday lunch, with my husband and my mother in law. The food has always been excellent and now the delivery people have to go to a totally seperate door and not through the cafe. It is so much better. It is fresher and brighter, with new table and chairs and the food is, as near to a home cooked dinner that you can have. We will definitely be regulars again. You get really good portions, exceptional value and the most amazing deserts.

Wonderful café and wonderful hot pot of tea and cute milk urn for the milk. Delicious apple pie and icecream and throughly nice lady serving at till. The home cooked dinners and huge selection of lunches, cakes and buns were excellent. Very appealing. Large room suitable for groups and dog friendly. Which was helpful as we have a small dog. Very popular with the locals.

After a recommendation for Sunday lunch I decided to down from Cardiff I must say I was not disappointed large portions of food homemade gravy. What more can you ask for I will be back

This is a good cafe with decent parking space. It is dog friendly but not overrun with them. The large breakfast was lovely although the sausages were catering standard. I am sure local butchers could provide some of far better quality. Unfortunately the tomatoes were tinned rather than fresh The young lady taking the orders and serving was cheerful and welcoming

Called in after shopping, fancied a roast dinner,both of us had chicken such a lot on the plate for a standard size.Well presented and piping hot, staff always courteous, will be calling again soon, perhaps for a curry.

Visited today for breakfast. One lady taking orders and making beverages, another young girl just hanging around waiting to take orders out and clear tables while the queue just built up. . Food did arrive swiftly but wrong items on breakfast plate. The breakfast itself was bland, sausages were like pulp and hash browns soggy. Not worth the money and not an experience I would like to repeat

Ordered 2 beef dinners at 10.30 am by phone for delivery 1-1.30 pm. By 1.30pm still no delivery. Rang and asked where our order was, and was told driver had been held up and would be with in 20 minutes. 2.10pm still no delivery received phoned again and told they had no record of order. So i said but i was told it was out for delivery. Could hear a discussion going on in back ground what shall i tell them. I'd had enough and ended call. Really annoyed first the order obviously hadnt been placed and second i was lied to. Very poor customer service. I have been a customer for over 20 years. Very disappointed.

Lovely cafe. Good value for money. Food good. Busy and frequented by locals. Efficient service. Warm and friendly. Seating inside and out. Would visit again.

We are fairly regular customers and usually happy with our meals . However today there was something up with the mashed potato , possibly milk beginning to turn or something accidentally mixed in . My son thought the tang was like Apple Sauce . We were a bit disappointed as we couldn't eat the mashed potato .

I went into the cafe on Sunday and I was pleased to find out that they catered for gluten free diets/allergens. The wonderful lady explained what I was able to eat and what I was not able to eat, the price was very reasonable and I will absolutely be back for more! There were no GF cakes on Sunday, but they explained that they do usually have one or two, so I will be back for sure. It's wonderful to have somewhere to go in the local area with a nice walk to follow after a filling breakfast.

Visited for a Sunday lunch for the first time while visiting friends and it was brilliant. Good, solid comfort food at its very best. The staff were great, friendly and efficient and the desserts were soooooo nice. We had our one year old daughter with us and didn’t feel out of place. Thank you, we will return on our next visit!

Slightly disappointing. Service good from young female, however, older female removed her mask to have conversations with other customers. Egg over cooked and ham extremely fatty. A menu designed around quick and easy, not quality food for the price charged.

visited this cafe as we had been walking in the area, they were very busy but we found a table without any fuss , we intended just to have drinks but on viewing the food being served decide to try sunday lunch, various options were on offer , Lamb , Beef of chicken as well as other meals. the sunday Lunch meals come in a small or large size. We had the small plates which were rammed packed with various veg and a good amount of meat too. the food was pipping hot and without much of a wait. The meal was good value for the money.

My partner and I recently had a three course Christmas Lunch at the Village Diner and it was excellent. We started with the prawn cocktail with prawns on a bed of salad and watercress, followed by the Glamorganshire turkey main with all the trimmings, five vegetables including the roasted parsnip, all perfectly cooked. There was a wide choice of desserts to finish, and crackers to pull. The three courses only cost £12.90, the larger sized main would be £1 extra.

I recently visited the village diner for breakfast with my work colleagues and I can honestly say that the breakfast is average and expensive as well I personally won’t be going back there again as there are much better places to go for breakfast and cheaper as well......that is my true personal opinion

I had a large breakfast consisting of 2fried eggs cooked in fat/oil cheep beans, 2 sausage and ,hash browns with 2 rashers of the most salty bacon ever it left a greasy residue all over the plate and coffee if you can call it coffee a basic greasy spoon but done very badly for the money really expensive dont go there it has gone to the dogs

It is our second time here. Last time we were here half a year ago. We came here after visiting Dunraven Bay. This time we had Scampi, Curry, Hunters Chicken. All meals were delicious. Definitely coming back again

I visit often and nothing is too much trouble for the friendly and professional staff. As a Vegan my options are limited but they will cook just about anything I ask. I do love a load of fried mushrooms with fried potatoes and a gorgeous mixed salad for breakfast! Even my meat eating son admitted it looked amazing. On Sundays for Vegetarians they do a superb nut roast with vegetarian gravy.

Been here so many times over the years and I have never been disappointed! It’s some where to get a really good home cooked meal at a great price. The Sunday dinners are LUSH!! They always have a selection of lovely looking and tasting deserts!! Always really busy on a Sunday but that’s to be expected with how good their dinner is.

We are becoming regular visitors here now, we like it so much. Delicious food, big potions, low prices, friendly cheerful staff, what’s not to like. My favourite is the chicken curry, half and half for £7.20 and the apple tart and cream for £3.50 which I had for Sunday lunch, my partner having a beef roast, with four veg, roast and mashed potatoes, perfectly cooked for £7.20 and a take away Manchester tart. There was plenty of room and a nice atmosphere.

Called in on a Sunday afternoon with a friend. Most of the other customers were having a roast dinner, but we fancied a breakfast. It was very busy, but our order was taken quickly by a very friendly waitress, we ordered 2 large breakfasts (£6.20 each). Our breakfasts arrived within 15 minutes, and they were absolutely lovely, piping hot and well cooked, also huge in size; 2 bacon, 2 sausage, 2 fried eggs, hash brown, beans and toast. We enjoyed it so much we went back the following weekend and did it all over again. Well done Village Diner, great service, excellent food and very good value for money. We will keep returning, and pass the word on!

I had heard good reports so we thought we'd stop by for coffee and cake. Its was extremely busy, we managed to get the last table. We both had a slice of cake and a hot drink. To my horror I was a few forkfuls in when I had to spit out a large piece of hard sugar. Unfortunately it wasn't a piece of hard sugar but a piece of hard plastic the size of my little finger nail. I didn't wish to make a fuss in front of the busy cafe, I simply went to the counter to show the staff member and asked for a refund on my cake. She told me she had to get the manager, to which then I hear a lady saying from the kitchen "I didn't make that cake, I don't make that one" before I had even seen her. She then continued to be extremely defensive as to why this couldn't have come from her kitchen.....I wasn't making a scene, I was extremely calm considering. The young girl on the counter kept apologising but the manager wasn't as concerned as I'd except her to be. They didn't even take the rest of the Victoria sponge off from sale?!

Hate having to come online to give s bad review but after a recent experience I must.

We come here for breakfast/lunch often, lots to choose from, lovely coffee and the staff are always very friendly.

Came here to have cakes and tea after visiting Dunraven bay. Big selection of cakes all of us had a different one and everything was fresh. Definitely coming back

There were a load of cyclists in here when we visited so it felt quite busy and there wasn't a lot of room generally. I nearly went for a breakfast but in the end I went for an omelette and chips. It was a lovely omelette and I enjoyed it very much but the chips looked slightly underdone, although they tasted OK..

Called in here on my way back to southerndown quite shabby looking from outside but didn't let that put me off as I walked in I found it very cramped far two many tables squeezed into such a small area I ordered home made cottage pie with veg at £6 90 not the best very stogey with gravy like glue l looked at the dessert Menu £3 40 for homemade puds very overpriced I thought I'm all for value for money but this diner wasn't in my opinion shan't be making a return visit in the future I'm afraid

Come here quite often for breakfast as it really is tasty and good value too and have never had a bad experience. The cake selection is also pretty good as are the deserts. I have come for lunch a few times too but breakfast is definitely my recommendation.

Hemos utilizado el servicio de entrega de cena y no son domingos sin duda decepcionado. Fácil de orden, entregado en buen tiempo y la comida era deliciosa. Todavía estaba caliente en la entrega, tenía una buena variedad de verduras y abundante - yorkshire en particular era muy rico! Una gran relación calidad-precio - volveré de nuevo.

He estado aquí y bajar durante muchos años y, a diferencia de algunos críticos, nunca he sido decepcionado. visto que el negocio crezca de una cafetería sencilla, a un menú más variado. Fuimos a día de la madre (sin reserva pero nos encajaba) y tenía una excelente relación calidad-precio el menú de tres platos de comida estilo casera. Servicio con una sonrisa. El equipo es muy servicial y la comida estaba deliciosa.

poped in after being down the beach with a friend sat down had no hello but was looked at and it took about 5/10 mins before we got served the girls were to busy playing on there phone..anyways think a girl name jenny took our order she could of been a little bit happier customer service was shocking. took about 20mins for the food to come it was nice but was put off when I could over hear who your staff have been meeting up with.. your suppose to be running a business not a gathering for you staff to talk to each other about there outside life.. yes I may be young but I was disgusted.. I will not coming again..

food terrible and the girls that work there look like they have done there make up and hair for a night out maybe if you took my time in caring for your customers rather than your appearance you may have better reviews. will not be coming here again as my husband didn't know where to look and the food wasn't the best

Me pasó en la última semana a llamar con mi esposa que está en una silla de ruedas para el té de la tarde a 4 de la tarde, y los todoterreno mi esposa al final de la rampa, preguntó donde están los baños discapacitados para que mi esposa pudiera hacer una visita antes de que se normalizaron para el té de la tarde.

I had lunch with my partner and two children yesterday at the cafe and I will not be visiting again as two of us now are unwell with cramping stomachs and nausea and vomiting. We should have complained at the time but three of us had chips which were tough and some were raw. Also of the tables were covered in dishes from previous customers.

Lovely girls and food ok but not on the ball re service. Meal was not hot enough and everytime we asked for something it was brought 5 mins later. No one seemed to be in charge.

Me and my mum come here all the time for lunch, we love the food! The only place we can find that does real home cooked dinners (real food) not pub grub that you find everywhere!!! Corned beef pie chips and gravy every time!! Yummy! Don't even get me started on the cakes and desserts... To die for! :)

Prompt service with a smile. we chose where we wanted to sit.the waitresses were attentive and pleasant.

Full welsh breakfast comprises of two sausages, two eggs, two rashers of fat free bacon, beans /& toms, toast 2, "proper" sliced fried potatoes, with extras if hungry - nice cup of tea (coffee not so good). Lunches served as well as Sunday cooked lunches; tea and a large variety if cakes, snakes; a good choice all round with parking right outside the door.Well located on the road from Bridgend to the coast at Ewenny, round the corner from the garden Centre and en route to Southerndown and Ogmore for sea and sand. In all a good stop morning, noon and late afternoon.

Visited with friends. Was nice and full, so seemed popular. Cakes looked delicious and fresh. Tea was lovely and served in nice clean crockery. Food was of good quality and quantity! Price was good value. Nice atmosphere. Service needs improving, but not so much that it caused us any real problem...one tea was forgotten which had to re-ask for and food was served to table at different/varying times which meant I had finished my food before my friend had even had hers served despite her ordering first. I would (and will) definitely visit here again, and would recommend it. It is a cafe with a nice feel.

Called in here after spending the night in the camper near Ogmore beach. Good value breakfast at a reasonable price. Enough said.

Good place to eat, clean and excellent value for money, the portions are huge, service is good and the staff are friendly, the only fault is the toilet, outside across the car park and not very clean to say the least

Went to the Village Dinner last Saturday for breakfast with my family, the girl on the counter was really helpful, if a little dizzy, we had a lovely breakfast which we found was really good value. The deserts looked amazing, pity it was morning time as we would definitely have got stuck into them. Overall we will definitely be going back soon.

Hubby and I arrived Sunday, just before 2pm. Took 10 minutes for an unwelcoming waitress to appear who proceeded to take the order of the table next to us who arrived after we had. I waited for her to finish and politely asked if we could order now please. She grunted something and walked off. Another 5 minutes later a different waitress appeared who was obviously busy but not rude with it and took our order: ham salad sandwich with crisps and coleslaw, mushroom omelette and a pot of tea. Tea arrived reasonably quickly. 40 minutes later I was looking in my purse to leave £1.30 on the table for the tea and to go when the food appeared. Ham sandwich contained half a slice of ham between two slices of bread. No crisps. Mushroom omelette was greasy. We ate because by this point we were ravenous. Hubby went to pay and I saw the chef wander out to the counter, WIPE HIS NOSE WITH HIS HAND and walk back into the kitchen. Needless to say I felt ill leaving there and certainly would not return. Reason for saying Gordon Ramsay would have a field day is because they need to decide what they want to be as they are trying to do far too much and not very well. No establishment should be trying to serve roast dinners and cooked breakfasts at the same time. It's a small diner and they should be focusing on that and not trying to be all things to all people and ending up in the mess they were in on Sunday.

We went for sunday dinner and to be fair the food was fantastic (as always). The service on the other hand was shocking! First of all, the waitress was so rude (couldnt even crack a smile), it took over half an hour to order desserts after asking 3 ppl if we could order. We even tried to order at the counter but was asked to take a seat and someone would come over. The manager, on the other hand, didnt stop. She found the time to be polite, work at a good pace and look after her customers. I would go again, just maybe not on a sunday.

Visit this cafe 3 times a week every week without fail sometimes more and the choice of food is superb and tasty and all home cooked great choice of pies, cooked meals with hand cut chips not them plastic oven chips most cafés and even pubs serve!! And the cooked dinners are superb with generous portions of vegetables and meat which you don't get in the chains and the prices are very good for the portions and service you get and the home cooked deserts and cakes are the best around bar none and absolute huge you gotta see them to believe them. Well done will be back soon

Went to this cafe for Sunday lunch and wasn't really that impressed, my lamb roast had been plated up ready and heated in the micro making the gravy all dried around the edges, also the veg was in large chunks making the presentation look awful. only god send was the desserts which were lovely and lots of choice

Visited the cafe the other day, staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was very good value for money all homemade. The selection of desserts on show were fantastic!!

Went to the village diner for lunch on Monday with the wife, we had some realy lovely home cooked food with great service throughout. The girl on the counter was real helpful, she recommended the crumble and custard, Wow!! Will definitely be going again! Thanks

Haven't been to this cafe for a long time and I am sad that I wont be going back for a while either. In its heyday it was full to bursting with people wanting good quality food at a fair price. The food is still excellent but its so expensive for a cafe (with an outside loo). An additional 5% for debit card payments is very nasty sting in the tail. The staff were not the brilliant & cheerful happy people they once were, the relaxed village cafe atmosphere has gone, the attention to detail it once had has gone, it was altogether very solemn. A feel of neglect was apparent, the walls badly marked with chair backs hitting it and finger prints - these things happen of course but a wipe every single day or darker paint, problem solved. The food is still brilliant, proper chips etc and home made pies etc - yes all reheated in the endless row of microwaves but tasty and moreish. If they brought their prices back inline with good value for money then they would be queuing out of the door again, neglected or not.

Went here for Sunday dinner, good food, good price but the service is terrible, had to wait for 45 minutes after ordering, would go back but only when café is not so busy.

Thursday 4/12/2014.Waited almost an hour for two breakfasts only to be eventually told they had run out of bacon with not so much as a word of apology.Wont be back.

I ate here last Sunday (6th April) and the food was fantastic, service is second to none!! Staff are so well organised and lovely. Couldn't recommend the Village Diner enough. Oh and all the cakes are homemade which pleased me no end. Will be returning very soon.

Used the Diner on numerous occasions and never ever had to wait so long for food to be served. My daughter in law was immediately in front of me to order their food had their food arrive a good 20-25mins before ours arrived, ruining what should have been an enjoyable Saturday lunchtime. And people who arrived after us, were getting food served before us.No apology was offered for the delay. And then, when it arrived, my fish was over cooked and the veg on my mums plate, hard boiled and inedible - by which time, we'd lost the will to live and way beyond complaining. And we couldn't even walk out in disgust as you up front for your food!

Was in Bridgend delivering something i'd sold on a Sunday, headed out toward Ogmore for a walk by the sea. Stopped at The Village Diner and had a fantastic roast dinner. Beautiful Lamb and roast potatoes etc. Really enormous raspberry pavlova, shared with my wife coffee and tea - £13.Lovely friendly service, lots of families, people walking out with dinners on plates [for relatives perhaps].Wonderful value, so if you are ever in the area try it. They say they are open seven days, i'll certainly be back.
