The village in Bromley

This f&c shop was recommended to us by friends. We were told their chips were crisper than the normal soggy chips we receive. The food is expensive. The fish is what I would expect but the chips are soggy. The ladies serving were very friendly and efficient.

This has got to be the best fish and chips I have had in a long time, so fresh and served up piping hot. The service and atmosphere was great too. Highly recommend The Village Fish & Chips in Petts Wood.

Visited The Village last night and despite it being very busy, the quality of food was still as good as always. The team never disappoint. Service came with a smile and our fish and chips were beautifully cooked. Looking forward to visiting again

We’ve just used The Village Fish and Chip Shop for my husband’s 60! From start to finish the process has been so easy. The food was amazing! Piping hot and delivered bang on time. Thank you all so much for making the party so easy! We would 100% recommend and so would all our guests too!

Best fish and chips in Kent! Lovely staff with freshly cooked fish and chips. Usually I have to wait for fish and chips about 10 minutes, but waiting does not feel that bad, thanks to the ladies.

We normally order from this fish shop most Friday evenings although today (Good Friday) we discovered that they were serving frozen Iceland chips! We popped into the Iceland around the corner before picking up our order and saw one of the servers filling up a trolley of frozen thick cut chips. Moments later the same server was in the fish shop. We got home and opened our food and indeed found that they chips were different and not up to their usual standard and tasted like frozen chips. Very disappointing.

Friday night isn't the weekend without a visit

Disgusting food , food cold , rude staff I will never buy from here again , tables dirty , fish not fresh, women server coughing and not putting hand over mouth.

My first visit to this fish and chip shop certainly won’t be my last. I ordered a takeaway of one plaice, one cod and a large chips with the two lovely ladies on the counter. So chatty and smiley, plainly enjoying their work. Spotless and well laid out interior made it very inviting. A short wait and the freshly cooked order was wrapped, bagged and on the way home. Absolutely delicious..!! Light crispy batter to two beautiful pieces of fish and the tastiest, fresh, perfectly cooked chips we have had in a long time. Top notch professionally cooked food presented in the most pleasant manner. You’ve got to give it a go. Thank you.

As far as fish and chips go this place is a cut above most fish and chip shops The only negative I've got is it needs to men on cooking side its way to busy for one person I do notice the difference in the quality when two men are cooking 🍳 The girls on the service counter are faultless Quick service with a smile Nice takeaway for a Friday 🌙 night

Went here for first time to check out reviews on how good this place was. Had takeaway instead of eating in. Staff were very nice and friendly. Didn't have to wait too long for the food. I ordered Cod, Haddock, battered sausage and chips. Chips were awesome. Crunchy on outside and soft in middle. Battered sausage was good as well. Good batter and moist sausage - not dry like some other places. The Cod and Haddock could have been better. The batter was good but both Cod and Haddock were dry in some places. Maybe this was because I had takeaway instead of eating in? There are other fish and chips around Bromley that do better fish but then then let it down with chips and battered sausage. So it depends on what you are looking for to eat. Prices were reasonable.

Chips are lovely. Big bag equivalent price.

I work all over South East London. This fish and chip shop is in my opinion the best. I have been using it for 5 years and it just gets better. The staff are brilliant.

Worst fish and chip shop I’ve ever been to in my life staff are somewhat friendly but the quality of food is poor 350 for a large chips the large is a small net worth of money at all.

Absolutely awful well overpriced chewy fish and awful chips with black bits in , I will never eat here again , absolutely awful and excessively over priced !!!

Fish is lovely , chips are okay but £1.50 for the smallest pot of tartare sauce (literally a tub with about 3 tea spoons). Ridiculous.

I'm really perplexed as to how this has been voted best fish and chip shop. I'm really struggling to find the positives. Dry savaloy, hard as rock. Chips don't come with salt and vinegar, you have to add your own. And don't you dare ask... Because you'll be told off like a naughty school child! Only highlight was leaving knowing we will never return

So here's a weird thing. I bought a savaloy and chips to eat on the way home. I declined the single use plastic vinegar because this is terrible for the environment. Instead, I walked into the restaurant area and used the vinegar out of the bottle. My goodness, did I get a telling off from the lady behind the counter. It seems as though you can only be environmentally responsible if you choose to eat in.

These are oven style chips not fresh at all spent £22 and it was the worst food ever and total waste of money . I didn't even want to give it 1 star 👎

Such nice staff only went in for a really small portion of chips for my 2 year olds and they was so lovely could not be more helpful👍 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We only ever order haddock and chips and the haddock is always LARGE and very TASTY, the batter is excellent. Friends and family who have eaten with us have commented too on size and taste. In the past I tended to not eat all of the batter especially the skin side (trying to be a little bit healthy) but when we order from here I find myself eating the lot. The curry sauce is nice too. The large chips just need that extra spoon full to make them truly large chips (in line with other local F&C shops) but with the large haddock exactly as it says, we are all left full. Not only do people want tasty fresh food but we want service with a smile too, it keeps the customers coming back. For me this is more 4.5 Stars but with the potential for 6*!

Had our first meal from here last night, having been recommended by a friend that lives nearby. Cod, chips, mushy peas and homemade Tarte sauce. I can honestly say it was one of the best fish and chips we've ever had and put a lot of restaurants to shame with the quality of the food. The batter for the fish was incredibly light and non-greasy, the cod itself was perfectly cooked. Chips, although a "large" bag felt a bit small, were the best we've ever had from a chippy. Peas and tartare sauce were also great. Will definitely be coming again

The numerous bad reviews that go unanswered by the proprietor on here say it all. I ordered via Deliveroo steak and kidney pie and chips. The chips were old (hot though I must add) they had clearly been in the holding cabinet for far too long. The mushy peas consisted of 80% green water and 20% peas they looked utterly disgusting. The is no quality control here. my pie, chips and mushy peas came to £13.50 which I obviously I didn’t mind up till the point when I opened the bag and started serving the rubbish, they’d sent me. I had another issue with this chip shop a couple months ago but decided it give them the benefit of the doubt and give it another go. They don’t care what they send out to their clients so that’s me done never again. I’ve been recommended Mo’s a mile up the road so will be giving them try next time.

I've lived in Bromley my whole life; chippies come and go but this remains the absolute best fish and chips I've had within take-home driving distance. There's a reason you always see people in there. I'm surprised the rating isn't higher, and having tried several options around here and beyond, I have no idea why anyone would suggest those instead (confusingly there are several different establishments nearby with a similar name - I am certain the review below with a picture of frozen chips is meant for of one of these other places, as I have literally never seen that kind of chip here in dozens and dozens of visits). It's all cooked fresh every time: the chips are thick, tasty and the perfect balance of crispy and soft, the cod is chunky with the batter always properly fried onto the fish (none of that gross soft batter) and the extras are really well-made (I love the mushy peas and homemade (!) tartare sauce). I was so impressed at their Covid procedure too - very safe and no hassle. Portions are always massive. If you want luxurious, authentic, ultra-satisfying fish and chips near Bromley, try this place.

The rudest girl I've ever come across, after waiting for everyone i met outside to be served I approached the door to make an order, only for her to say " move out of the way for other customers your order is not ready yet" sha hadn't even attended to me yet or taken my order or anything. Very poor service from a very rude girl.

I rarely give a poor rating- let alone 1 star. But this restaurant, I feel, was rude, unhappy to serve me, overpriced, and completely unwelcoming.

Due to the Coronavirus problems they were highly organised having a very easy to use online site. Always use them and the quality of fish and other products are excellent.

Was really excited about getting Fish and chips from here but after driving a fair distance to collect it. Was really really disappointed. Only a third of the chips were edible. As the chips were black and dry. Ordered a battered sausage and had barely any batter on it. And the batter it did have on it was dry and hard. The fish only thing that was edible was the fish. But would definitely not recommend or return. Sorry to say it was just a waste of money.

Terrible food the chips were burnt and dry fish was dry. Such a shame to see people taking advantage of being able to serve poor quality food during this time when they don’t have to answer the phone

The fish is amazing - flaky and doesn't taste "fishy" at all (you know what I mean). The chips are up there with the best chips I have tasted - even posh ones from reasonable restaurants. Even my kid, who hates chips, likes them. I'll be going back.

Was a delicious fish and chips as always, reallyis the best fish and chips in petts wood. It has a good variety of fish and chip shop staples with some other options like chicken nuggets, although the fish looked of a much higher quality than the chicken. The price was reasonable considering its popularity and quality. The only negative was that it did get very busy and the staff did seem very rushed although it appeared they were training a new member of staff on the tills, but they had to split focus between walk in take away customers, the sit in restaurant customers and online delivery services. Overall definitely worth a visit but be prepared to wait a little during peak times.

Friendly, efficient service and the food is consistently good though the cod seems to have shrunk a little of late in order to avoid a price rise.

Lovely staff. Fish great... BUT the restaurant feels like you have gone to heaven, so so bright you will need to wear sun glasses. Heinz bottles filled with cheap ketchup l will never understand, we are not fooled.

I ordered a take away and collected my order but as I went to put salt and vinegar on the lady shouted NO that's for restaurant only the vineger is in the bag I said I don't like malt vineger that was in the sachet I wanted the chip shop vinegar in the bottle she screamed NO you can't have it I was gobsmacked so rude and ridiculous I definitely wouldn't recommend this chip shop my first visit will be my last I've never encountered anything like it

Visited for fish and chips at the end of the day,where I was greeted with friendly efficient staff and I was served with a FRESHY COOKED piece of cod and chips . Best fish and chips in the area ! I will definitely be returning. 👌👍👍👍

Has to be the most pompous chippy I've ever been in! Cod and chips were good but one of the serving staff has delusions of grandeur. Let's hope she was having a one-off bad evening and doesn't interact with customers like that all of the time. I've since been back and staff were lovely!

A little expensive, however very good fish and chips

Poor service and indifferent attitude to what they serve let's this place down. Tonight's offering was on a par with a wetherspoons, not least because they gave us fries, not proper chips, with no warning. I understand that they might run out of traditionally sliced potatoes from time to time, but they should be transparent and let their customers know before they take their money. I suppose we should be grateful... Last time they forgot to put the chips in the bag completely, forcing me to run back to the shop while my fish got cold at home. On that occasion, the girl behind the counter looked at me like I'd just insulted her mother, and bagged up the chips (proper ones that time) without even a hint of an apology. Tonight we made the mistake of giving them another try. Never again.

Love this place! We eat here on a pretty regular basis, always a warm welcome. Typical....two helpful friendly female members of staff last night and as usual great tasting fish and chips! Thank you for having line caught haddock as a choice. Although cod is now considered to be at healthy levels again, a lot of concern over the massive nets used to catch and the damage the nets do to other animal and plant species. Thanks also for the cardboard take away box which is recyclable . Brilliant!

Food mediocre if you don't want tomato sauce!! Service could be much better...Having ordered fish and chips to take away I asked for some tomato ketchup and I was then told that this would normally be covered if I paid extra to eat in. At this point I'm thinking "come on...are you being serious?". The experience was very strange as I've NEVER been to a fish and chips shop that refused to provide tomato sauce without paying extra. Incidentally I was not offered salt...perhaps I would need to book a table for that and leave a tip? It's a fish and chip shop that is trying to be a classy restaurant but failing badly. As another reviewer put I felt rather awkward and uncomfortable the whole time I was there. The food was mediocre at best and it is unlikely I will be returning.

I live in hope of finding a good fish and chip shop but this isn't it. I don't mind having to wait on a Friday night but I was surprised that chips were an additional cost on top of fish. The scamp was fine but not better than anything I could have bought frozen at the local supermarket. The chicken was dry and overdone. Undoubtedly the biggest let down was the chips which were the usual overdone in fat, soggy experience which I had hoped to avoid. I might not have minded all this as much if it wasn't so expensive. Don't waste your money.

Cooked while you wait, this fish and chip takeaway is a cut above the usual, they also have a small restaurant where you eat inside. The food is always really nice, very fresh and well cooked. Staff are always friendly. The cost is about the same as most other fish shops, very slightly higher, but the quality is always good. The food is cooked fresh while you wait. I think they have recently won (or come highly rated) in national best fish and chip shop type competitions? Highly recommended if you are in the area.

The fish and chips were lovely, if a little pricey. The service however, was honestly the worst we have encountered anywhere. The woman serving us was surly and did not exchange any pleasantries at all throughout the course of our meal. She actually made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome....as if we were a bother to her. It got the point where we felt too uncomfortable to ask for the things we needed. I sat and watched her as she worked and she was so obviously warmer with every single other table. We're not an unfriendly or unreasonable group of people; we're a group of gay women and men in our 30s and 40s with children who are relatively well behaved and some of us happen to have different coloured skin. So the only conclusion I can come to based on us and how she treated us compared to every single other table - is that she racist and homophobic. We won't be back.

Food is ok nothing remarkable. Those stupid little packs of wet salt are irritating. No salt and vinegar on the counter. Prefer Britannia over the other side.
