Went for Sunday lunch. Food was excellent but I was not happy about having a dog at the next table. The dog owner asked if we were happy with the dog. When I said no she went to management & asked for a different table but was told there wasn't one so they sat next to us with a large & smelly dog. Dogs should be kept specifically to one are of any place providing food. I am asthmatic & dogs often set my asthma off.

Visited twice during our holiday. Both times the front of house staff and service were very good. Sunday lunch was enjoyable, a good choice of vegetables, decent vegi and meat option, and plentiful. Restaurant was full and we were glad we had booked. Unfortunately mid week was the opposite. Very much overcooked fish and chips which were dry, hard and not particularly hot. The vegan cauliflour/hummus seemed to have been just taken out of the fridge and waved at the overhead heat lamp. Tasty but so lukewarm, and no flatbread with which to eat a fairly sloppy meal. I did ask if there was a flatbread or crusty bread to go with it and the answer was no as it would put the price up considerably? Its doubtful based on our second meal that we would return, purely due to the food and not the staff who were very friendly and as helpful as they could be.

Dreadful food. The lemon chicken, polenta and organic vegetable dish was thrown together, watery mess, lack lustre and unappealing. I can’t believe the kitchen sent this out. I went away disappointed and hungry. It was taken off the bill. I was offered a free pudding but decided not to take up the offer. Such a shame as we’ve eaten here in the past and roast dinner on a Sunday was good. Never mind. Won’t be returning any time soon.

We had a Sunday roast some had roast beef and one had lamb I can say that it was the worst Sunday roast that we have had in a long time. They use the cheaper cuts of meat but charge premium prices, my wife could not eat the beef because it was that tough I ate some but could not finish it because it was like leather we took it home fore the dog. The greens we could not eat they were also very tough to sum up very very disappointing would not recommend.

Fantastic meal with friendly service. We pre-booked our evening meal and were very happy with the food and service. The Cornish sole, fish & chips and farm vegetables were all delicious. Arrived in Goldsithney after an 8 hour car trip and then decided to walk into the village for some food at 7.30. Well the welcome we got from both pubs was a bit frosty. We decided to walk the 25 minutes to the victoria arriving 5 minutes before they stopped food. The welcome we got was fantastic got told to relax and not to worry. We both ordered the Rib eye which was cooked to perfection ans was so tasty. Thank you so much for making us feel welcome and see you again soon.

We were hungry. Hadn’t had much to eat all day and remembered the Victoria from a couple of visits a few years back when the food had been magnificent. Sadly not the case on this occasion. We were greeted well enough when we arrived, just before 6pm, and shown a choice of two tables. We were served drinks quite quickly and given menus straight away. From a surprisingly limited choice of items on the dinner menu we ended up choosing starters of scallops and a ham hock chowder. The three tiny scallops, each no bigger than a 50p piece, were tasty enough, but expensive at £12.50. The chowder was thin, not particularly hot, and tasted of nothing in particular. The mains were not much better. Spiced chicken thighs, with polenta and spring vegetables, and a mushroom and potato bourginon . The bourginon also had a few bits of carrot in it but not a scrap of any accompanying green veg. It was pleasant, but very unimaginative for the money. The chicken was tough and the spring vegetables were much the same. Most of it was left. During our ‘mains’ nobody enquired if everything was ok as staff seemed much involved with dealing with arriving guests as well as a small party. We decided to forego dessert and went to the bar to pay. The bill was presented to us immediately with the usual query ‘was everything alright for you’. Sadly our observations of the meal didn’t result in the offer of any reduction to the bill by way of goodwill or apology, only that they would be passed on to the chef. We shan’t be returning.

Went in at 10pm for a drink. Official closing time is 11pm. I repeat: the officially advertised closing time is 11pm. The barmaid at first said she could serve me one pint, and then she switched and decided to say that she cashed up for the evening and so couldn't serve me a drink. She was obviously being controlled by the supervisor, who looked like a nondescript bearded buffoon. I was extremely insulted by this mistreatment of a customer. Obviously this place doesn't want your money!

We stayed at the Victoria Inn for a couple of nights over the Easter weekend. The room was quiet, spacious, clean and well-appointed and we particularly liked the complementary freshly ground coffee and cafetière in our room before heading downstairs to a selection of breakfast options, including a generously portioned full English. We enjoyed a delicious, traditional roast lunch in the restaurant on Easter Sunday accompanied by a nice bottle of red and repaired to the cozy original old bar afterwards to relax in front of the wood fire. Before we left on Easter Monday, we both enjoyed a tasty fish and chip lunch, made with fresh fish cooked in a delightfully light batter. The staff were attentive and professional throughout and we look forward to our next visit.

My lunch started with a scotch egg with mayonnaise, no garnish whatsoever served up on an ordinary white plate like something you’d get in a transport cafe. The main course was a seafood chowder which was very heavy on potato and very light on fish. No shrimps which were meant to be in it according to the menu, about half a dozen mussels and a couple of bits of whiting. I’ve been before on several occasions and had no complaints. Won’t be returning any time soon.

Lovely pink building. Interior is cozy and a bit claustrophobic, as in: not much space to move around in or drink in. So you have to shuffle around a lot and cringe and whatnot. But the drinks on offer are good, and the food is mucho gusto. And the minority of the staff are actually friendly, which is a huge plot-twist for Cornwall!

A very sad disappointing trip to the Victoria, was a warm welcome even if the pub wasn’t too busy , not that that matters , we were shown to our table and offered a drinks list . Albeit the drinks a bit pricey we thought with the reputation this place had gained over the years through the previous two owners it couod be justified …. We were wrong. Starters were ok , soup was fairly bland but we carried on , then came the mains . I had fish and chips which was particularly disappointing , overcooked fish with lukewarm what seemed like reheated greasy fries . My partner had a fish pie that was ok but nothing special at all and for the price contained barely any fish , Didn’t bother with desserts all we know is that it is a far cry from the standards set from the previous owners

Turned up to an empty pub at 12.15. Greeted really well. Ordered a pint of cider and a medium glass of white wine. We’re told there were two options - the cheaper and the more expensive. We went for the more expensive. Total cost (just to remind you, for two drinks) £17.55!!! I did question the amount but was assured that the 175ml glass of wine was over £11.00 (making the bottle £49.50!!!). You don’t sell drinks at this price over the bar; if diners want to be fleeced then so be it (the majority of weekly covers come from Chiswick). No wonder the “local” pub is dying. Not going back there again. On the flip side, The Cabin by the beach is the best value for excellent food you’ll and drink you’ll find anywhere.

Sunday lunch, feted as a British staple, is suffering. It's not a difficult meal to prepare but my is it difficult to see a fine or even reasonable example at the table...in fact, as at the Victoria, merely a warmed-up delivery. The Victoria Inn does nothing to change this sad circumstance and that's not withstanding the shoddy serving and service. Once, the Victoria was at least dependable... but what can be relied upon now is a far cry from tradition.

We decided to have a light lunch at this pub as we have been using their sister pub, the Ship Inn, whilst staying in nearby Porthleven. Very different to the Ship as the Victoria is more of a dining pub. Absolutely delicious soup of the day and a starter lamb croquette. Cosy bar areas with log fires whilst both bar areas and restaurant area are doggy friendly. Very reasonable prices for their Wednesday special. The pub is featured in the Good Pub Guide and Alastair Sawday pub guide, not to mention the A.A., Best in the West, best roast awards, amongst others. Friendly and engaging crew. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

This we did on Saturday to celebrate my birthday. The restaurant area was busy with a large birthday group so we were sat in the bar area. Table was a good size and the pub atmosphere was good. Two of us ordered scallops and two ordered the chicken starter. They were excellent and gave us great expectations for the main. Two Fillet steaks a Lamb shank and a chicken. We were not disappointed all the food was excellent. The lady's had deserts which again went down well. We discussed the meal afterwards and we all agreed it was probably the best meal w had had for many years. Can't wait to go back and try something different.

We ate yesterday at a very well known, Michelin starred restaurant that specialises in fish. It was good but not great, and the cooking and presentation of the vegetables was disgraceful. Today we had lunch at the Victoria Inn. It was far,far better and cost 60% less and it has a lovely ancient pub ambience. We arrived an hour early following a visit to St Michael's Mount but that was no problem. Staff were friendly and welcoming and the beer and wine excellent. We both chose seafood linguine. Someone else was eating it at a nearby table and it looked and smelled magnificent. We were not disappointed with perfectly cooked scallops (including corals), prawns and layers of white crab meat with perfectly cooked and seasoned pasta. The chef clearly understands both seafood and pasta. We followed with a lime and strawberry creme brulee (me) and local cheeses with all the right accompaniments. Lovely. This was the best lunch I've had in a very long time and cost under £100.00 including a pint, 3 large glasses of wine and a glass of port.Probably best for fish lovers, but if you are one of those don't hesitate.

Well, it really was a game of two halves. Firstly, we ate one evening & whilst we can't complain about the quality of the food, it was very expensive and the portions were meagre, I ordered the crispy belly pork (£18.50), it arrived with 2 small new potatoes, a single sliver of roast carrot & 2 tiny beetroot wedges plus a jut. I could & should perhaps have ordered a side dish of veg and potatoes, but this would have resulted in playing £27.50 for a belly pork meal in a pub - we felt mugged to be honest. I genuinely feel that a pub meal should provide sufficient portions without having to order sides, it seemed like they are trying to extract every last tenner from its customers, we didn't like this. We did however return for a Sunday lunch on our last day as it had been recommended from someone we spoke to. The contrast couldn't have been more different - we had an excellent meal, the crunchy cauliflower cheese was superb, excellent value too at £15. I would add that it is a quintessential Cornish pub, great areas to sit in or outdoors, at the front or rear. Just a shame about the price & meagre portions on the evening menu!

This is one of our regular haunts when we stay in the area, and I have to say, while it certainly doesn't qualify as 'cheap eats' it is worth every penny. On our most recent visit, like all of us, it has had to embrace Covid Compliance which is well done and well managed. (One way system, sanitiser, no standing at the bar etc.) One side effect is that it is harder to just come for a drink during dining times, but hey - just eat as well! The staff are really friendly and welcoming, and flexible on all fronts. The food is excellent, the menu varies daily but is consistently reflective of high quality, locally sourced, beautifully prepared selections that will delight you. There had been a number of similar reviews to mine and we were heartened to hear from friends that the owners appeared to have listened to their customers and instituted changes. On our visit recently the menu not only gave more choice but had gone back to a more traditional feel albeit with some interesting flavour combinations. We had a Sunday lunch and a nights stay. Have eaten here before and as ever lunch was delicious. Always a solid list of wines on offer. The staff are wonderfully accommodating. Covid is handled professionally and safely without it being issue. Room was lovely and quiet. Thank you.

You need to book in advance for dinner. We had a lovely meal the scallops were beautifully cooked, followed by rump steak which was cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful. The pub is full of character and charm which still shines through even during Covid restrictions. The staff really friendly and helpful. My only niggle and it is nit picking is that we could have really done with steak knives as it was hard going with the normal knives. Would recommend dining there. My last point which is important to me is lovely coffee.

Been eighteen months or so since our last overnighter here, in which time management has changed. However, we are always blown away by the experience. Firstly, the rooms: well heated if needed, comfy beds, good en-suite shower/bathroom, hot drink facilities, TV and WiFi and some parking. Breakfast is delicious and uses lots of local produce- I always have granola, Cornish yoghurt and berries; husband goes traditional full English. You’re a short walk from the beach, Boat Cove walk (by the church) Trebarvah for more views, the Chinese buffet and both beach cafes. However, EAT IN!!! If you don’t, you’re missing out! Delicious local fish dishes or Cornish steak, vegetarian options, range of ales at the bar...Prepare yourself: The pub closes at 10.30/11 and if you sleep early, like us, you WILL hear life downstairs (what do you expect- it’s a very old building!) I’ve got to say I find it comforting and not disruptive.

my husband and myself decided to choose this restaurant for a meal out after being in lockdown for so long. Have to admit it is a long time since we have eaten here, but my goodness was it worth the wait. It must really have been one of the best meals we have had for a very long time, and the service was amazing.

I pre-booked this restaurant before coming down to Cornwall on holiday because of restrictions everywhere. I didn’t know quite what to expect, but we were certainly not disappointed! The Victoria in its a beautiful old pub with a lot of atmosphere. We were there on a Monday night and every table was full. There were 3 girls working there and they worked very hard and were very efficient with the service. (We were sat directly opposite the bar so could see everything that was going on!) My husband and my daughter had the Plaice special and I had the Steak and all our food was absolutely gorgeous! Highly recommend this pub for a lovely evening meal.

We chose this pub as the half-way point of a walk from Penzance and back, without knowing anything about it, and we were not disappointed: we had been looking to have crab sandwiches during the week so we were delighted to see them on the menu. The price would have been shocking, but we knew that it was on a par with other places we had looked at but couldn’t get into without a booking, and the quantity and quality was good. All washed down with a couple of excellent pints of Tintagel Gold. A great end to the week.

I live local and have seen this place get a little bit worse over time. Food is secondary to the tableware. No sauce for a steak?? so just dry chips, steak and an oily mushroom not worth £18. Needs a new chef or chef need to go on holiday and refresh themselves.

Got off to a bad start as the sanitiser dispenser on the wall by the entrance was empty. Mentioned it to the waitress, but she did not take much notice. Was then told that I had called that morning to cancel my reservation! Pointed out that this was baloney, and finally the staff realised that they had made a mistake. They were not quick to offer us a table, and at one point I thought that they would turn us away. However some diners who had a reservation 15 minutes before us had not turned up. I suggested that perhaps these were the folks who had cancelled? Finally we were shown to a table.Dining room's decor looks tired and uninteresting, so not good first impression.Had a Doom bar shandy to drink and then we ordered. I had River Exe mussels with chilli as a starter with freshly baked bread and it was superb. Really tasty and would make a good main meal.Main course was fish and chips. Again very tasty with proper rough cut chips. Had some vegetables instead of mushy peas. My wife had a carbonara with brocolli which she really enjoyed.Contactless Mastercard payment.Tables were socially distanced and menu was a piece of paper, so I suspect that they are not handed to the next diners.Staff apologised for the muck up at the start, so that was OK.Really good food and drink and will return.

We ate here on Saturday 8 Aug and were treated to a superb meal in all respects. The group had several different starters including scallops, mussels and the chowder - all received top marks. For the main course the majority of the group chose the day boat plaice fillet, one went for the rump steak and one paella (all of these from the specials menu) and everyone was delighted with their meals, with the plaice being voted by three of us as the best they had ever tasted. The food was complimented with two lovely wines, the Rose and a great red, ensuring that the evening will long be remembered. Thank you to chef and staff.

Beautiful little pub, and so pleased they were able to fit us in for lunch at short notice. Limited menu due to Covid, but the fish and chips were excellent as was the sea food chowder. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Ice cream excellent too.

Good food and service fine but rather pricey for what we had. Shame this is one of the few restaurants not participating in the eat out to help out scheme and no sign of any reduced prices from the change in VAT. Will not be returning any time soon as so many local places are giving customers the discount.

On Tuesday as my wife and I had just taken our two dogs out for a walk at loo bar, we decided to stop off in Perranuthnoe, but unfortunately our chosen venue was shut so we went to The Victoria inn, and I am very glad we did, we were fortunate enough to have dry and sunny weather, so we were able to socially distance outside. The member of bar staff came out & took our drinks order and whilst I cannot remember the name of the ale I had, I can say that it was a pale ale and it was kept really well and tasted great. The barmaid then took our food order, I Ordered the starter portion of Halloumi & chilli linguini with a side order of fries and my wife ordered a goats cheese and red onion jam sandwich on gluten free bread again with a side of fries.Well maybe it was just because we were finally able to get out that time seemed to pass by, and then my wife said it’s been a while and it was only then that we noticed one of the chefs rushing back with some gluten free bread. Now you could be forgiven for being a little aggravated for the delay but in fairness, rather then disappoint a customer they sent out for some special bread and that shows a real commitment to customer satisfaction.Following the delay we were not disappointed with our meal. 1st I am so glad I only ordered a starter portion, now I’m a big guy with an appetite to match generally but in this case not so much and we needn’t have ordered two chips as one would have been ample. My linguini was full of the sweetness of the tomatoes and onions with a gentle kick from the chilli. The Halloumi was not a token offer but a generous amount so that I was able to get a piece with every forkful a great choice in my view. As I said my wife ordered the goats cheese sandwich and this arrived on a board with generous helpings of leaf salad and flavoured crisps (not plain as is the norm) and a pot of herb coleslaw and with the addition of the fries she was super full afterwards. There was a generous amount of cheese in the sandwich and it was not over mature, as can often be the case with goats cheese giving it it very distinctive flavour. This one however was smooth with a creamy subtle flavour that was complimented by the red onion jam. I have to say that for a impromptu venue we were both very impressed and we will be back so if you’re looking for something great for lunch, I would certainly recommend them.

We may well be the last tourists to visit for a while, hopefully not too long. We were enjoying a couple of pints yesterday when the news of the closure of pubs etc etc came in. Shocking but particularly so for those who rely on pubs for income.I must comment for all who will visit in the future that the attitude of the Barman - take a bow, Jamie - was incredible. He received the news with greater dignity than can be imagined and his conduct was in sharp contrast to the swarms stripping bare the shelves in Sainsbury's.The pub had changed hands since our last visit and the owners deserve better luck than to have a closedown after their hard work. I hope that when all the pubs reopen people realise just how important they are to the community, not just to people like me that like a beer, or two.We will return as soon as we can not just because this is a great pub in a great village with friendly engaging locals but to shake a young man's hand and tell him that his actions last night restored my faith in human nature.

I was in the village to take some images of St Michael's Mount and decided to eat here...again.It's a great pub that's a bit of the beaten track but worth tracking down. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Inside the decor is in fitting with the location and adds to the ambience...especially when it's cold outside and the log fires lit!The menu isn't huge but it will still suit most tastes. My food looked fantastic and tasted superb. Price wise it was good value.I'd happily return here again (and probably will do soon) and recommend it.

Whilst exploring the Cornish coast, we dipped into the pretty village of Perranuthnoe quite randomly. It was turning dark and the lights of the Victoria Inn were welcoming. We could not believe our luck on stumbling on this place. The building is 12th century with snug but bright rooms. It’s a long bar with very friendly service. Tables are well spaced and dogs welcomed. It is the FOOD that is especially good. Starters included scallops, honey glazed duck salad and five spiced crab. It’s a real gastro menu in a proper pub where locals sup and people like us were greeted warmly.

Generous portion of well cooked meat and nice selection of roasted veg which came already on the same plate as the meat. Furthermore there was a fluffy Yorkshire pudding and dish of additional veg. A very good meal that was well cooked and served by a team of young waitresses, who, although not very knowledgeable about gluten free options and menu choice were very friendly and efficient.

We have eaten at the Victoria in Perranuthnoe three times this month, as we were so impressed with the standard of the food. I ate there in the evening as part of a large group at Christmas time, and the food then was outstanding, and very generous portions, but recently we have just had lunch there. The lunch menu is quite varied, catering for most people’s tastes. On a Tuesday they offer an OAP menu for over 60’s with two courses for £9.95. We noticed that this included a roast beef meal last week. I can highly recommended the crab chilli chowder, the Arancini, The fish and chips and the spiced plum and walnut crumble. All delicious and very generous servings. The restaurant, to the side of the main bar, is light and airy and has been busy each time we’ve been. There is also ample seating in the bar area. I noticed that they were advertising Happy Hour in the bar on a Friday evening, which I will definitely make it down to sometime soon, as the staff are very friendly and the atmosphere warm and welcoming. My only criticism would be that parking is very limited, but this is out of the landlords hands, and the toilets are pretty chilly! All in all a lovely, friendly pub with the added bonus of fabulous food.

The ice creams here are beautiful! Really generous portions and are very well presented. The customer service we received was outstanding, my daughter had a massive meltdown (ASD) and they were nothing but supportive, understanding and helpful. We'd had a very tough day today with meltdowns galore and this one was by far the worst of the day yet I never felt alone or judged. People like you make the biggest difference and I am so very grateful for you going out of your way to help and care. Thank you x
