The Victoria in Redcar and Cleveland

Visited here on a Friday Evening because its dog friendly and every other pub in Saltburn was heaving, more so as everyone seemed to be watching the euro football . When we entered it was near empty flat and silent . Two televisions in the lounge area were turned off even though Scotland were playing in the Euro's. Charged £8.60 for one pint of lager and half lager shandy. I think that explains everything and this once popular pub is now completely soulless, drab and ridiculously expensive !

Traditional victoriana pub. A good old fashioned boozer ! Like stepping back in time. Great location. Lovely staff. Would have loved to have gone back for Sunday lunch but schedule didn't permit.

We spent a night here last weekend. It's very close to the station and the town centre, the beach is only 5 minutes or so walk away. That's where the positives end, unfortunately. The Victoria is by no means a hotel, more a pub with rooms. The problem is that it's not a very nice pub. The dark, dingy kind that reeks of stale booze. The rooms are located on the 3rd floor (no lift, worth bearing in mind if you struggle with stairs). Our room was very spacious, but equally very basic. It was freezing cold through the day as there is no way to control the heating from the room- it comes on at night and that's that. The bed was creaky and uncomfortable and the TV kept turning itself on and off. Facilities were very limited- tea and coffee were provided but rather than individual sachets it was grounds & tea bags in a jar. No toiletries other than 2 tiny rounds of soap provided in the bathroom and the hot water from the sink was barely luke warm. To access the rooms when the pub is closed, you have to use an external fire escape which heads down into a dark alleyway filled with bins. And the cost for this pretty poor show, almost £100 a night. A total rip off and extremely poor value. I know there isn't all that much choice in Saltburn, but do yourself a favour and avoid The Victoria.

what an experience ! Outside of pub hours exit is via an outside fire exit through the bin area , absolutely filthy ! i’m sure this isn’t safe or allowed ! Room was a good size , clean but basic ! When toilet was flushed it made enough noise to wake the whole of Saltburn ! Young girl n pub was very welcoming and offered to carry my suitcase up as my room was on the fourth floor ! I didn’t sleep as i was worrying about getting down the metal staircase with bags the following morning ! Never again !

Clean room, friendly staff, strangely quite an upmarket bathroom. Very basic and I’d say overpriced especially with no breakfast. And some very ‘creative’ wiring for the kettle (see photos)!

My wife and I went here on Thursday to try one of the recommended parmesans. It was fabulous but I am glad that we both went for the half portion. It was enormous and incredibly filling. Could not have managed the full size version. Great value meal at £24 for 2 with drinks. Pub looks a bit run down but the friendliness of the staff and the food more than make up for the appearance. Give it a try.

We occasionally call in for a drink whilst visiting Saltburn. A spacious traditional pub with separate rooms. Drinks are also well priced.

Basically a room above a pub ! Not advertised correctly on the booking site as there are numerous steps and access via the fire exit ! No breakfast , no wi fi in room and not really beach front position , very dissapointed as not described correctly ... The room was however clean with hot water and towels , kettle with tea and coffee, Not suitable for anyone that struggles with steps !

Had the carvery on a Sunday. Food was all well prepared and hot. The vegetables were cooked just right and not over salted. Friendly helpful staff.

Great old pub as it should be. Nice beer selection (local and elsewhere). Typical and very tasty bar food menu, Sunday carvery from 12-4, all at reasonable prices.

Great parmo - full one is too much! Also a good pint of Cameron's Strongarm. Apparently the first pub in Saltburn!

Me and 4 adult friends booked 3 x rooms here for an overnight stay. The place doesn't do breakfast ....but there are places very close by that do. It was great ... clean and comfortable rooms, lovely towels......staff professional, helpful and polite. Would definitely recommend this place... !

Stayed here for 1 night, big room and big bathroom. Very comfy double bed. Great stay and would recommend for an overnight stay. Very friendly host, thank you for making our stay a good one.

Just spent a night at this lovely place. The room was very spacious and clean with TV sofa and really everything you need. Nice little en suite. The bed was really comfortable. We were at a wedding up the road so got back to room at midnight. Didn't realise we had to go up and alley at side of hotel through a fire escape door to get in. Wasn't a problem though. Room was lovely and warm. So warm in fact we had to open a window. Pub is very welcoming and bar staff are friendly as were the customers. Would definitely go back. I think maybe there should be an out of hours phone number as we were unsure how to get in after hours. Luckily someone was in pub and directed us.

The room and bathroom quite modern but freezing cold. The bed was only a double which I think is unacceptable in this day and age. We asked for the heating to be turned on when we went out in the evening which was done. However I presume they switched it off when the pub closed at 10 as it was freezing all night and never came on in the morning. The price was £90 and no breakfast. We had to come down an alley and up an iron staircase when we returned after 10 and leave in the morning that way as pub was not open. Very disappointing

Possibly the worst Sunday lunch I've had! All frozen or tinned veg, served in a vat of water, frozen Yorkshire puddings, and dished up the scraps off the meat. The whole thing was tasteles. Quite expensive too at around £9 per meal. Very shabby surroundings, and poor general atmosphere. I live locally, and will not eat here again, clearly a way to rip off visiting holiday makers, which brings down the reputation of the area.

Visited here several times and most of the staff are really friendly and helpful with nice selection of ales and home cooked food.

The building is old and in poor repair generally which does not help your first impressions. We were met in the bar on arrival by a young and enthusiastic young lady and shown up the grubby main staircase to our room. The stair carpet was ready to fall apart !She explained that, out of pub opening times, we were to use the fire escape to leave or re-entre the building. This took us to a dark alley behind the pub.Our room was very basic but large, airy and above all clean. It could have done with a few more furnishings and more than one picture on the wall. We had to share a bedside lamp.The en-suite was clean but the toilet plumbing was a very noisy macerator which set off in loud volume every time even a tap was turned on (poor neighbours).We had no view from the room other than the apartment block opposite but it would not have mattered much as the windows were so dirty everything looked distorted in any case. In fairness we were on the third floor.The only other member of staff that we met was where the real shock took place !We were due to book out of the hotel at 10am, however, we were running late and at twenty past ten we received a loud knock on the door. We were told in no uncertain terms to leave within the next five minutes or else!! No preamble, no "I hope everything was ok for you" or "Have you had a nice time?" ect. Just go!! Housekeeping is waiting!During our stay in Saltburn, which is a lovely small town, we made every effort to avoid our hotel- it was so shockingly basic, worn out and grubby as to be depressing !!I hope we will go to Saltburn again but we certainly will not be stopping at the "VIC"

Stayed here for a night while walking the coastal route of the Cleveland way. The staff were really friendly and the food was really good. The rooms were clean and large in size, only issues were the sound of the boiler which was insanely loud and the fact I couldn't find an out of hours phone number which I found a little concerning if I needed assistance while the pub was closed. Would happily stay here again though, central location and close to the station was handy.

This is a clean and well presented pub in Saltburn. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to seek it out but you could do worse, 3.5 stars would be fair. The food was decent, a half parmo, but the portion size wasn't particularly generous and the white wine, pinot, was a tad on the warm side. The menu appeared to have a decent selection and really that sums this pub up, decent.

Decent Home cooked food but not a lot of choice due to Pandemic etc. Good Choice of Beers. Old fashioned decor but we like that sort of thing. Worth a visit. Cottage Pie is superb. Home cooke Chips. :)

Excellent stay! Large clean room, comfy bed, super powerful shower and the lady on reception/bar was so lovely and welcoming. We would absolutely use again.

Dropped in as we passed by on a Monday lunchtime. It was quiet but it was also sunny outside and we sat instead so that was to be expected. The lady behind the bar (and our waitress for the visit) was so pleasant and lovely with the children in our party. The food was really tasty. Lovely home cooked chips (Whoo hoo) and the 4 x cod/rest of meals were lovely. The children ate for £1 which was amazing! Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

Called into the Victoria for a meal and a drink 3 adults and 1 dog . Friendly welcome and covid check' served by Rachael who was vey pleasant and helpful.Enjoyed my first ever Parmo ,had a small problem with my beer quickly sorted outThe pub interior is very interesting and if in the area would go there again

booked a night with partner, confirmed booking and even had the money go out of my account! but the slow useless receptionist allowed someone else to take our booking just before we got there! warning to others stay away

We called in for a pre lunch drink last Sunday. We were greeted by a very polite guy, doing all the covid formalities before taking our drinks order, and inviting us to choose a table. The bar area was impeccably clean which was so nice to see.The drinks were well presented, and I was extremely impressed that they knew how to serve a gin and tonic correctly. This isn’t sarcasm, as I can’t believe the amount of bars, pubs, hotels I’ve been to ( including many high end ones) and they don’t know how to do it .All I can say is, well done Victoria, and we hope to see you again very soon.

Booked to stay here as was working in the area . Took money for booking , drove 3 hours to check in . Closed , no answer on the phones . Not even the decency to reply . Had to rely on booking.com to find me alternative accommodation 35 minutes away in Whitby , I understand they are in tier 3 but take the property off or have the common decency to reply . Shocking

We visited here for a meal last month and thoroughly enjoyed it. After working late we gambled on seeing if they did carry outs. Fortunately, they did. Our order was placed over the phone whilst in Middlesbrough and after driving straight there, it was ready. We don't live far from there so it was still warm and well packed.Meal was lovely with the bonus of being able to eat it in my pyjamas!

Enjoyed my night with my family. at the Victoria they Made us feel welcome & my son who is only 2, the food was lush. Staff was warm very welcoming the room got a little cold on the evening, very clean the shower was amazing the shower door and toilet seat need a look at. And the rear fire exist door key need checking out. But we will definitely be booking a stay there again soon. Would of love a breakfast as with the current situation there was no where else open.Thank you to everyone who works there. X

Fabulous Sunday dinner with lots of choice. Haven’t tried any other dishes but will. Staff are lovely. Would definitely recommend.

Staff cannot do enough for us on our recent stay at this fantastic well ran establishment Friendly clean and welcoming for a get away weather with family or romantic I would recommend to all already booked for our return visit

We always eat here at least a couple of times when we visit Saltburn-by-the-Sea each year. The beers are well kept and there's a good selection of cask ales, including Cameron's. There's also some very good pub grub on offer. If you're not from Teesside you may not have come across the local specialty of a parmo. The Victoria does a half-parmesan - try this before attempting a full parmo! We'll be back again next year...

Tipped up about 3pm on a Sunday afternoon looking for a meal, we were directed to the dining room upstairs which was lovely and warm, plenty of space and found ourselves a table. Ordered food and drinks at the bar and away we went. Portions of the meat were very generous, and the veg you play yourself. I’m not a fan of a roast dinner or carvery but I will happily go back here again - I even liked the parsnips that I wouldn’t normally touch with a barge pole but the chef said I was missing out (thank you) Highly recommended £40 for two adults two kids with a round of drinks. It’s not a Michelin star restaurant but for cheap and cheerful pub food it was great!

Great atmosphere in this beautiful pub. The decor is fabulous and the bar is well stocked, lovely young man served us. Burger and steak were very nice and the REAL chips were a treat. Just one tiny complaint, the plates were cold!

We were struggling to find somewhere to eat having arrived in Saltburn quite late. We came across the Victoria and decided to give it a try.Lovely interior- traditional and authentic.The food was extremely reasonably priced and Was actually very good (scampi, chicken parmo and the mince and dumplings were fab). Would certainly recommend.

no help for any one with a wheelchair. no help with anyone who needs help who is disabled. yet it came with hi reviews on giving people in need help but this is not true. yes the staff are lovely. yes the food is nice. but a party of people who want to enter here just cant as no help with wheelchairs users. such a shame as we had a lot of money to spend but it would have been so difficult so we ended up going some where else and yes we all got the help that we all needed. i will indeed be leaving 5 stars for the place we went to. and we will be sending a large tip in the post to that place.

We visited on the Saturday of August bank holiday weekend for lunch and were impressed with how well the place was run, although busy the staff coped wonderfully. The food was good , generous portions and excellent value for money, everything is cooked to order it's not fast food but freshly cooked quality food.

We visited on a Saturday lunchtime and ordered 2 meals from the specials board. A long wait but we have eaten here before and know it's often the case. My husband's chicken curry when it arrived was disgusting- more like a thin soup with God knows what in it. The chips had been dropped in on one side of the bowl and were soggy. He managed a few mouthfuls, then offered me a taste - awful! Nothing like a curry. My mushroom stroganoff was no better - a few mushrooms in what looked and tasted like bisto gravy with a huge spoonful of mustard - complete with all the seeds. I had a side salad and that was okay but tiny. We wouldn't have even given any of the food to our two dogs. We left quickly feeling very disappointed and a bit nauseated.

Hotel is in the centre of Saltburn,excellent location. Rooms are clean and comfortable and staff very friendly and helpful. There are a lot of steps to bedrooms and no lift so not suitable if you have mobility difficulties, added to which there are some problems with accessing and leaving rooms by main entrance when bar not open on a morning. This is a great place to stay if you are fit and healthy!

Just passing through so called in for lunch,what a nice find this pub is....the lady behind the bar was lovely and welcoming,later discovered she was the landlady,mega efficient or what! Anyway the food is lovely pub food and the prices for food and drinks are very reasonable....would definitely return.

I went out with twelve other people for a meal here last night. We all had vegan food and all our plates were clean at the end. The service was really good and the food delicious and cheap. So good to have a variety of different vegan dishes to choose from, there are also vegetarian dishes too.Just one small disappointment- no vegan desserts. Vegan like pud too. WE have been before though, and we will be back.

We went especially for steak but they didn't have any! Boo! Nevertheless, we had good alternative options, liver and onions, also a parmo. Very tasty. Thank you.

Called in on the off chance as,at the time, there was scaffolding around it and it didn't look very attractive, lovely old fashioned decor inside, friendly staff, and a good varied menu, very good value for money. Not posh food. But very nice! Will be calling back.

We didn't eat here, but we booked a room for 2 nights the room was clean and comfortable and quiet. Had a few drinks in the bar very reasonable, bar staff very friendly and approachable overall a good experience.

superb place to eat good selection of food and the portions are huge, they also have a special board and offers for 2 dishes for a cheaper price as well as a good selection of largers and beer.

Good quality food and very tasty but it was pretty expensive for a carvery and we had to stand in a queue for 35 minutes. My 75 year old parents wouldn't have been able to cope with it. The main problem was there was only the chef serving and another girl standing talking to her and not doing much else. Having anoth server would have reduced the waiting time considerably.

Called in for a couple of beers before meeting friends at local restaurant for a meal. A couple of lovely craft ales and great selection of gins. Staff very helpful and friendly and great atmosphere

An unexpected find close to the railway station at Saltburn. The Victoria is as the name implies a Victorian pub with high ceilings, ornate lighting and lots of woodwork. the service was good, the menu varied and there was a good range of beers and wines. Judging by the notices there is a great deal going on at the Victoria.

Had a visit for Sunday lunch today, have to say was delicious, carvery style with four choices of meat and nine well cooked and presented vegetables. Both my husband and I chose the beef and was lovely, very good value, nice friendly staff, will definitely recommend and visit again. Well done to all staff

After a walk through Saltburn, went for the Sunday lunch carvery in the Victoria. There are 3 price options on offer, we chose the medium. There was a choice of 3 meats all of which looked good and not dry looking. There was also a good selection of vegetables.

My wife and I enjoyed a Saturday night meal at the Vic.

Id booked in here for 7 people at their restaurant,was told they have a band on so could we do 7pm which was ok,we were all looking forward to it but to my dismay i was called at 5pm 2 say the kitchen was now closing because of the band but if we got in before 5.30 we could order food,what a joke and not good practice 2 bail on a booking at such short notice,we eat and drink regular in the vic and all live in saltburn and can say none of us will be eating/drinking in the place again....also a call from the manager might have been more professional..

Had a twin room which was small but nicely presented. Sink was tiny but we had been given the key to an alternative shower in case the fixed shower in the room didn’t work - which it didn’t! Alison was lovely and friendly, giving us tips on where to go and eat. The pub was a good traditional pub with a decent selection of beer and the food wasn’t bad either. Seems we had the smallest room, although it was clean and comfortable, so next time we will ring instead of via booking.com.

We went into The Victoria about 3pm with our dog who was made welcome in the bar area . I would say this is a good traditional pub serving good hot food at very reasonable prices

went for sunday lunch with the daughter and baby,which was not agood start as we had to leave the baby as we went upstairs to get our dinner.not good, the dinner itself was ok but not the best i,ve had mash wasn,t nice gravy not nice either.not good at all,not been back

Didn't use the restaurant, but stayed one night at the hotel. The location is excellent - close to the beach and the town. Our room was clean, well decorated and comfortable. The en-suite was small and the shower a bit weak, although the water was nice and hot. We had twin beds and they were very comfortable and I had a perfect night's sleep. Didn't eat in the restaurant but we did have breakfast (full English), which was absolutely superb, beautifully cooked and lots of it! The staff in the hotel were absolutely lovely; frendy and helpful. I would heartily recommend the Victoria as the place to stay in beautiful Saltburn.

The all you can eat buffet at the Vic is on the last Friday of the month. There's a large range of food on offer, I had mince &a; dumpling with mash, sausage and chips with onion rings, absolutely spot on, there was also curry, wraps, chicken, pork chops and a heap more stuff. This is probably the best value for money meal I've had. The staff are really friendly and helpful, what more could you ask for

We loved our two visits recently to The Victoria, friendly pub with chatty and helpful bar staff. Food and drinks were were good and excellent value (possibly the best value food in Saltburn!) Tables kept tidy and clean.

Lovely meal gammon was delicious . Friendly Clean and comfortable. The meal queue can take a little bit of time but that’s because of the choices on veg, plenty to choose from . its become a regular with us

Have followed Nicola wherever she has worked due to the quality & tastiness of her food. You wont find a better carvery in the North East.We wish her every success with the Vic!

For some years now the Vic has been ran by people who clearly have not cared about the place but that is clearly not the case with the new owners, it was lovely, fresh and clean. We arrived early for the carvery and there was already people waiting outside, which is always a good sign. We ordered the carvery, greedily I asked for a large for which you get a much larger plate and 6 slices of deliciously cooked meat and a massive homemade Yorkshire pudding, the choices of vegetables was great, carrots, roast parsnips, turnip, cabbage, proper mushy peas, creamed leeks and cauliflower cheese, needless to say I didn't finish it all, only made a small dent. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were very polite and friendly. We shall definitely be returning.

Popped in today with some friends for a lunchtime meal. The food was lovely, the staff were friendly and helpful and the pub was clean and atmospheric - good value for money and well worth a visit - would go back again no hesitation 👍

Came for lunch today and have also been for the carvery a couple of weeks ago, and all I can is fantastic! The food is amazing and the staff are brilliant and the value for money is better than any where else in saltburn, this is quickly becoming my favourite destination for food in saltburn.

went to wednesday carvery last week with family and it was excellent in every way. i highly recommend after just one visit. Staff really friendly and helpful. Meat, 3 choices, lots of vegetables, all piping hot and tasty. My husband had parmo , which he said was delicious, and home made chips, with salad. Was surprised to see flight of stairs to access carvery, as one of us disabled, but all help was given by staff, who offered to carry all meals downstairs! If you are thinking of going, then do!!!!!!! Overall opinion is excellent. Wouldn't change a thing.

Four of us went here today for the carvery, and I can honestly say it’s was the best I have had for many years. Plenty of vegetables and cauliflower cheese to die for. The staff were really friendly too, all in all a great package. We will be going back again soon

Only one member of staff on behind the bar and the pub was reasonably busy. After placing our order we were told after 5 minutes that two of our choices were unavailable. The member of staff was incredibly helpful, polite and very kind in altering our order at no extra cost.

So disappointed very over cooked bland meat and the veg was so over cooked it was mushy texture- as a family we spent quite a lot 5 meals 2 bottles of wine 4 pints beer and 2 juices - don’t know who’s now cooking the food but obviously don’t care what they’re giving out!

Haven't met the landlady but the bar staff are wonderful and can garentee a great pint. haven't tried the food but I've seen lots of empty plates returning.

Went upstairs in vic today for a carvery with my husband. The best we have had,beer is good and the staff are really good. We will be going again next Wednesday.thank you

We tried here, after calling in for a cheeky drink and seeing the food and the menu. We were not disappointed, the grandkids ate off the children’s menu and it was good to see that the chips were homemade and we had the half parmo. Plenty of homemade food. Brilliant

Went today for lunch , seen stuff on Facebook and photos so thought we would try it . So glad we did it was absolutely delicious . I had the steak pie which was a big square with chips peas and carrots . And lovely...

No coma aquí, sólo parado por unos pintas cuando pasé una noche en Saltburn. Como su nombre lo indica, es muy de estilo victoriano, un adecuado estilo antiguo boozer. Parece que no tienen una gran selección de cervezas, pero lo que tenían era buena. Tiene...

Esta era la primera vez que visitamos este lugar. En esta ocasión estábamos comiendo con la familia al llegar entramos desde el lado del pub estaba muy lleno y sin asientos, así que estábamos a punto de salir cuando fuera notado otra puerta (muy mal firmado). Fuimos y fue otra puerta a una parte diferente del pub con una mesa de billar y estar con ambos lados comparten una barra en el medio. No era nadie en este lado tuvimos un poco de esperar en el bar para pedir y no se informó de ningún retraso. Antes de visitar habíamos mirado el menú en su sitio, que a su llegada no era el menú. Tardaron bastante para que nuestras comidas se trajo a nosotros, y cuando lo hicieron todas las comidas no fueron llevados juntos era bastante un retraso para las dos últimas comidas (lo que no es muy buena cuando ll por una comida juntos). No nos dio ninguna cubiertos ni condimentos o recomienda tenía para ellos hasta que tuve que ir al bar (en espera) y me dijeron que ellos allí. La última comida para salir no era muy cálido y no muy contento con las comidas. Cuando cena como un grupo que siento que es una prioridad clave para asegurar que todos comer al mismo tiempo.

Aquí en 21 llamado/4/17 para el almuerzo. Ambos tuvimos un sandwich de atún y compartió algunas patatas fritas cortadas a mano. Gran servicio y comida a un precio razonable. Sin duda recomendaría este pub para el almuerzo.

Poor service ! waited over an hour for jacket potato, and a sandwich, though it was not at all busy , other people grumbling about the wait to , staff at the bar not very attentive on there mobile phones hiden out the back most of the time, can only think the boss is away and and the mice will play, Needs to have more hands on I think or they won't have a business to come back to .

We have visited here a few times now..for Lunch on a Saturday. The Staff are really friendly and the food is Freshly cooked and delicious.I had the Mince with the Dumplings...good hearty food with fresh veg..and very tasty...can recommend it!We have been as a couple and with our daughter and granddaughter and the staff have always helped with a high-chair ect.....its a little gem!

Visited this pub for a lunchtime meal with a friend. I ordered mince with dumplings which arrived quite quickly. The mince was well flavoured with plenty of gravy and well cooked veg. The cheese and leek dumpling was the best I have tasted. Grudgingly have to say better than I've made at home! All in all an excellent meal for the price. Will certainly return.

Staff very nice but overun with work the food was cold and a bit tasteless the tables left dirty for a long time asked for a large meal charged for one but given a medium also we had the same ammount of vegtables (table of 3) as a table of 2. Overall venue nice staff nice let down by good quality

Called in for the 1st time for a late lunch. Good selection af drinks to choose from & a lovely British type traditional bar. Friendly service. Food was great, I had half a parmo, homemade chips & salad, the wife had mince & dumpings with mash. We both thoroughly enjoyed it and at just £8 for the 2 meals :-)

We were waiting for our hosts to get home from work so spent an hour or so in this friendly local pub. It is very much a local, nothing up-market about it, but people seem to know one another and to welcome visitors. We didn't try the food but it looks appetising and extremely good value. The pub is dog-friendly and television screens show sky sports.o The landlady was friendly and welcoming.

Had sunday lunch here for the first time. its a cheap eat so i wasnt expecting the works.meat, yorkshire pud and potatoes on plate, veg served separately which i liked. along with help yourself gravy and sauces. it was all fine (although potatoes were luke warm and needed reheating). turkey was nice and moist. fair price for a fair meal.
