Fish and chips are excellent, thank you to all the staff who were working really hard to serve all the customers quickly and politely. Would definitely get a meal from there again.

Great fish and chips. Cooked freshly so need to wait about 10 minutes, well worth waiting for! Have been coming for couple years now and cannot fault. Staff always pleasant and efficient.

Not a difficult cuisine to get right, unfortunately on our visit the incorrect change was given, chips were luke warm and old. The average person understands there have been price increases due to inflation, but what isn’t acceptable is poor service and second rate food.

Best fish and chips this side of Fleet. The cod is wonderful in a lovely light batter and the chips are great as well Fantastic quality and service but often busy!

I ordered lunch here for my family via the phone. When we picked it up the service was super speedy, they had everything ready for us. They triple checked how much they were charging, found an error and promptly corrected this by giving us some money back. They were really friendly and the food was great. Just what you would expect from a traditional chippy.

Since the guys from Ancells farm have taken over this Fish and Chip shop the standards have improved considerably and they are now providing great Fish and Chips. Please keep it going.

Staff are brilliant, great ownership, run just as well as its sister company on Ancells Farm. Great to have an option of quality both sides of town.

We have fish & chips every Friday lunch time at work and although there not currently open on a lunchtime because of covid-19 we place our order on a Thursday evening and they make it specially for us on a Friday lunchtime. Food is tasty and portion sizes are generous. Staff are friendly too. Would highly recommend

Friday night dinner for my partner and 2 kids. Fish was cooked to perfection and chips were 'proper' chips and in plentiful supply. Been a couple of times now and must say, the staff are very polite (... And patient with my young kids!)

After moving in August to Church Crookham advised to. Go to the Verne it then was superb well we went on Friday 21/02/20 my wife’s fish hard greasy (cats tea ) mine Cold piece of cheese slapped on a cold and unedable burger lastly must have had bottom of pile chips from lunchtime.the main thing that got fed was the. BIN.Luckily the high st is now the way to get fresh cooked food.SAD AS WAS ONCE ONE OF THE BEST? No longer R.I.P

This shop with its partner, at Ancells Farm, are the best in Fleet. Freshly cooked and decent portions. They don’t only serve fish - it’s all worth a try.

Food always a bit greasy tastes like they warmed it up. The card machine never seems to work so you have to get cash to buy. Not worth the effort.

I have used this takeaway many times now having lived around the corner for a few years.Food was always good and portion size excellent however my last trip was quite frankly awful.The chips were old and recooked, the batter on the fish heavy and greasy.So sad as this used to be my go to fish and chip stop, will have to look elsewhere now.

Good portions but chips are greasy and fish batter is heavy and often hard. Not cheap and quality is not what it was 12 months ago.

I quite often have a fish & chip lunch after golf on a Friday and have never been disappointed. By and large fish cooked to order and comes out steaming hot. I guess at busy times they may have some ready but they do not stand long. Sausages, chicken and pies also available.This shop is twinned with the shop at Ancells Farm and both have a good reputation.Recommended.

Always overcharging but when questioned they come up with right amount straight away so they know what their doing,has happened few times now so this is not a one off, but no sorry from them especially owner who just stares at you as if you're mad for questioning it. Zero customer care but food is good i wonder how many elderly people get done.

Had not been for a while due to some bad experiences. However went yesterday and the fish and chips, and service were first class. Back to its best and I will be returning next week.

We have always had consistently excellent fish and chips from these guys or their other shop at Ancells . The portions are good ,the staff always friendly and it is still the best price takeaway you can get.

I use this chip shop and the in ancells regularly as both are run by the same people and I think both match up in greatness. Staff always polite and helpful and food always a hit

Me sorprendió ver algunas de las críticas negativas abajo, así que tenía que responder como estos peces y patatas fritas siempre han sido consistentemente bueno, recomiendo las frituras de guisante así, son deliciosos. Para ser honesta, las colas de los viernes por la noche en la calle son muy revelador, recomendaría salir un poco más tarde en un viernes a ahorrar hacer colas. Had been chippy of choice in Fleet, but tonight arrived at 2025 and the closed sign was turned as we walked in. Were told we could only have what was left in the cabinet - which was only pies and sausages.

I dont know how they could get fish and chips so wrong, chips over cooked and cold and the fish was dark and dripping with dark oil .

Went the other friday on a recommendation from a friend, and was thoroughly impressed. The frienly staff served me up a great portion of fish and chips delicious crispy batter and perhaps a few too many chips perfect on a chilly night.

I'll be honest - we used to always use the Flying Fish in Fleet town centre, bar far the best fish and chips in the area. But they then changed hands and became a fish and chip and chinese takeway - the fish and chips were NOT good!So since then we have used the Verne Fish and Chips. The food is fine but there are things I don't like and some things that have improved over the last few months. Firstly the chips, they used to be quite thin and usually slightly soggy. Over the last few months they seem to have become more chunky and certainly more crisp than soggy. However its the batter on the fish that annoys me. More often than not it is over crispy, still just about edible, but on a couple of occassions it has been hard (and then the fish is overcooked as well). I'm never able to eat the batter on the bottom as it is so greasy and leaves loads of oil on my plate. It just never seems to be left long enough to drain or its the way the batter is made or its cooked - I don't know - but its always incredibly greasy.Also the price of fish is so expensive, why not offer small portions? Not sure how feasible that is but I end up with my child wanting fish and the normal portion is too much and there is no kid option. Or why not make your own fish fingers and fish cakes? The fish cakes seem to be commercially bought ones and are pretty bad :-(Don't get me wrong I like the food in general but with some adjustments I think they could be really good!

Have visited here many times and it has always been consistently good. Popped in yesterday for fish and chips and was so disappointed they went in the bin. Fish was extremely overcooked and greasy. Batter was so hard, impossible to cut through and the fish was so frazzled. Chips were fine though. You might say that the fish had been sitting for a while but the shop had not been open for 5 minutes. The shop was staffed by two young ladies and I watched while one fixed her hair in a ponytail and then served food without washing her hands. She was also wearing a shirt that looked like she had slept in it for a week. Unimpressed. Fish and chips these days are not a particularly cheap option.

Excellent chips - always hot. Not a massive choice for vegetarians but that is par for the course and it is a fish shop so I'm not complaining - just explaining. Good size chip portions. I've never had anything else from them so can't comment on other foods. Chinese takeaway two doors down, so we tend to order there, get the chips from here and then return to the Chinese to collect my main meal - works a treat !

Always v pleased with service and food here. You usually need to queue for a while on a Friday evening but this demonstrates how popular they are.

This is our regular chippy in Fleet. It's not the very best I've ever been to, but perfectly good. There's usually a short queue (proving the popularity) but they cook constantly and so the food is fresh and well done. Recommended.Take away only.

This was from a number of months ago so it copuld have improved markedly. The staff were less than helpful and the food exceptionally greasy (I know its a chippy but the quality of cooking can manage the amount of residual oil...)

There is nearly always a queue in this fish and chip shop as the quality is unbeatable. Extremely generous portions both on the fish and chips. Chips crisp in the outside, soft and fluffy inside as they should be. The cod is always skinless and boneless, with large soft white flakes and the perfect crisp batter - why would you go anywhere else? Also it is on our doorstep!

We are regular customers at The Verne chippy and the fact we buy there once or twice a month is a good recommendation - so try it.

This fish and chip shop is extremely popular in the area and for good reason. The fish is always beautifully white inside and crispy on the outside. Chicken is cooked to order and very tasty and I really can't fault this place.

We used to travel across town to the sister shop at Ancells Farm. Although the standard there is still excellent this one at the Verne maintains a standard that is just slightly higher. Extremely clean and efficient service with DELICIOUS FISH AND CHIPS and more. Well worth the visit. Please note - there is no seating in the shop - it is a takeaway.You can phone your order through for collection which is a useful addition to the service.
