Only tried the chips deffo a big thumbs up from me

Just had a delicious takeaway! The haddock was really good and chips were cooked perfectly - not soft or soggy like some places. We also had the chicken strips, mozzarella sticks and cream cheese jalapeños all really tasty!

Disgusting food and terrible customer service. Rubbery chips and a lukewarm savaloy. When i went back in to complain to the manager I was brushed off and ignored. An apology would've been nice.

Hello i went here today and i got large fish and chips and batter sausage it was awful very greasy and chips where cold it went in the bin £18 and half pounds in the bin also if there spent more time cooking instead of on the mobile phones this fish and chip shop would be back to how it used to be

Tiny portion…pic anttached - meant to be a large?! - ordered a large and got this. Mushy / fatty chips as per. And just … dull. Just plain fatty mushy soggy poor quality chips. Sausage was ok but ends rock solid either end?

I remember when this place was worth driving 45 minutes to. It’s gone down hill significantly over the years to the point where I wouldn’t feed their produce to our dogs. We foolishly gave them another shot tonight and I had to stop after a few mouthfuls due to the taste, it being undercooked, chewy texture and a soapy aftertaste. Really dreadful quality fish, batter and chips.

A 6pm pick up .Ordered large cod , and a standard Haddock. The Haddock's batter was crispy enough. But the large cod's battery was rubbery and the fish as dry as a biscuit. Almost like it had been reheated from a previous service. (Surely they wouldn't would they ?) Upshot is ...... I won't be ordering again.

I just got home with my large chips, haddock & a pickled egg. There is no pickled egg, the portion size of chips is for a child. And all for £12. Never again!!

Just tried here for the first time. The batter fell completely off one of the fish and then both fish were chewy and also pretty flavourless. Chips mediocre too.

Disappointing, batter to thick, covering very small fish portion, chips not nice, what's happened used to be very different.

Big portions, really tender fish w nice crispy thin golden batter, good price, quick service. Devoured it all in the park around the corner w a couple San Miguels. Thank you

Good quality well cooked fresh fish with nice thin batter. Good sized portions and reasonable value. Small cod, chips and mushy peas cost £10.40. Unfortunately the chips were a let-down. Soggy texture and all stuck together in a big clump and stuck to the paper. They might have been alright fresh out of the fryer but were too tightly wrapped in paper. Most good fish and chip shops these days use cardboard boxes which keep the food crisp and warm far better.

Very disappointing, chips were a strange colour, tasted like been reheated several times, not nice and crispy, haddock had a thick batter on that wasn't cooked on the inside. Not worth the money ☹️. Really sad to think how good it used to be.

Thought I’d give this place a second chance after a bad experience last year, let’s just say nothings changed, asked for a large portion of chips, got less than a small portion and the burgers were mushy and just awful, and it seems to be run by a bunch of teenagers? Never going there again

Thought I would try as not been in a while, I was disappointed with the batter, which was very soggy. Fish was a bit chewy. Staff were not very welcoming or friendly.

Congratulations! You have the dubious accolade of serving the smallest pieces of plaice I have ever had in all the years I have eaten fish and chips. The two pieces we ordered would have just about made one decent sized bit put together. And then you have the cheek to charge £8 each for them!

I bought cod and chips last night at about 8.15. The chips were like stones, and completely inedible. The cod edible, but only barely. I will never return. ( I am not Lila James, my name is Niall Scott).

We were staying in a hotel in hook. The local fish and chip shop had mixed bag reviews. Hartley's had the better, so went here instead. Ordered fish cake, pea fritter, small chips and curry sauce. All freshly made, not over fried. Not soggy with oil, in fact "perfect." The shop was busy, staff friendly. While waiting I watched staff with other customers, either walk-in or pre-ordered. They were pleasant during each sale, confirmed the order back and ensuring items were wrapped to the customers wishes. I felt a 10% tip was warranted. So all in all, not a bad punt based on the feedback. Maybe the other place same or better. I'll let you makes your choice.

Service is so slow. Ordered two kids meals as a quick stop off on the way home - everything was being cooked to order and yet they were prioritising other customers over ours. Turns out “Kids Cod” isn’t a small piece of cod, but cod bites. So 20 mins to cook some cod bites. Kids upset as they wanted “big fish” and had waited so long just had to take what we had.

Great fish & chips and really tasty kebab! Would definitely recommend the kebab special on a Friday or Saturday, for non-fish-lovers - watch the chilli sauce though, it’ll knock your socks off!

I have been getting my fish and chips from hartleys for years, over the last 6 months the food quality has gone massively down hill. There seems to be the same people working the shop but time and time again I've been very disappointed. Unfortunately I will be going to Oh my cod as its far superior at the moment.

Service was too slow, orders before and after were being completed. They had obviously forgot to put our order on to fry. Mistakes happen and can be understood but no one behind the counter was willing to give any information or apologise. At the end, the order was wrong, badly cooked and really bad service.

I get my fish and chips here frequently and will continue to do so, many reasons for this: - High quality of food. - Excellent portion sizes for the price. - Wide choice of fish options, and alternatives. - App order is simple and has always been ready on time for collection, allowing for planning ahead if travelling. - Great service Thank you very much - keep up the good work!

Awful. On entry told they had no normal size cod but could buy 2 x small cod instead , at a vastly higher price than 1 x normal sized cod! With no alternative we did this but found them completely inedible! Virtually no fish inside burnt over cooked batter and what fish that had started inside was incinerated due to the overcooking. Appeared to be no management but from reading other reviews they probably wouldn’t care anyway. Locals but won’t return. These rip off places should be shut down. No doubt when this happens they will blame Covid and not their dubious and incompetent management!

Excellent large cod. Perfectly cooked and wrapped. Very polite and the order was timed perfectly for collection. Took this home and two of us and shared it with some home made parsnip chips! ZLWH

Terrible The service terrible and staff all miserable. Food terrible and slow for very poorly cooked food. Fish cake nearly raw. Large chips more like a small chips. And let’s not talk about the large cod. And pricey. Can drive 5 minutes down the road for a better meal with change.

I visited on the 21st March in the evening and spent £27 on two large fish, large chips mushy peas curry sauce and 2 battered sausages. The fish was over cooked and chewy the batter was dark from being over cooked, it’s the worst fish I’ve ever had and I’m 53 years old. I threw it in the bin inedible.

Soggy oily chips, the smallest thinnest piece of Haddock barely-coated in a soggy thin batter that fell off the fish as I unwrapped it ... massively disappointing and a complete waste of just over £10. I need to go and buy some decent fish and chips just to wipe this sorry experience from my memory!

Absolutely amazing food, not once have I had a bad meal. Can’t fault them in the slightest, have always been spot on. Will happily return and continue using them in the future. Parking isn’t the best out the front of the shop but can always park round the back if needed. EASILY recommend popping into Hartley’s.

Only go here if your starving the young lad who took order very disinterested and polite but disinterested, food wasn’t great but what can you expect from young college teens Very overpriced and food was appalling

We visit this fish and chip shop when we come to events at Eversley. The food is always cooked fresh and the staff cope very well when we present them with a large order at short notice.

My favourite fish and chip shop. Food is always delicious and reasonably priced. I like being able to preorder for a collection time as well as it is a 15 minute drive for me so it means I can plan ahead. Really enjoyable food.

Just had 2 x small cod, unfortunately the batter was soggy and stuck to the paper. Chips were tepid and this was at 1 O'clock in the afternoon

The food is great here. But tonight they either took my food order wrong, or didn't give me the correct food. Shame because they're normally brilliant. I will be back, food is very good here. They're always busy because it is good, so be prepared to wait. And check your order before leaving!

Purchased pie and chips for a quick meal on way home. Worst I think I have ever had! The chips were ‘scrag end’, all off cuts and bits that should have gone in the bin. The pie had been upturned in the hot cabinet for so long, the chicken and mushroom was almost solid. All round an awful takeaway.

We were driving through the town and spotted this chip shop on the High Street. We ordered a simple portion of cheesy chips to share which came out quickly with lots of cheese. Unfortunately, neither of us liked the chips. Unsure if it was just us but we both agreed the chips just did not taste right.

2nd time I've had a fish dinner from here... 1st time wasn't great but I thought it was time to give it another try, which was a mistake! Ordered haddock and cod with 2 large chip's, plus mushy peas... Got home and both fishes had stuck to the paper, we couldn't tell which was cod or which was haddock, both tasted exactly the same, considering we waited almost 20 mins for it, I was hoping it was fresh and tasty... Sadly not! Last comment, chips absolutely awful, greasy and soggy, this place is not nice, and the food is even worse, wouldn't recommend.. if I could have given a zero, then I would have!! ******* Response to the owner. Thank you for your comments. It was several weeks ago that I visited last. A friend suggested your fish and chips, hence 2nd time, thinking it would be better. Also, please don't insult mine and others comments, by suggesting it was another restaurant!.. You are based on Hartley Wintney High street, close to Tesco's.. Hi, I have used Hartley fish and chip shop for years, I am a local here all my life and always excellent quality. I bought 3 small cod and 1 portion of large chips tonight for me and my elderly parents,,, got home and all the fish was wrapped together,,, stuck and broken in pieces and had to separate as best as possible,,, it was very nice fish and chips but could have been so much better with a little attention to detail and a whole piece of fish together, not mashed as one,, overall the quality was great but the service was poor and I would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for this. Will be back soon and maybe I can have my fish wrapped individually,, everything else was great... 😁

Has had a nice update and revamp since Covid. The fish is great - appreciate the Senior portion and price too.

I will not be going back, after waiting 20 mins which is about right for fresh food to be cooked, I was very disappointed with what I unwrapped when I got home, from chip shop to my home in car, is less than 1 minute 30 seconds, the food was tepid and best, large black spots on most of the chips, and the battered sausage was cold, the fish was was covered in grease

24 minutes to wait for a portion of chips. No organisation in that place and too busy laughing around and not concentrating on the customers. Always hit and miss in that place and never get the orders right.

We used to get fish and chips here years ago, thought we would give it a try, disappointed really, bland flavours for the once a superstar fish and chip shop. Staff not friendly, could do with some customer service training but I guess their new to the hospitality industry.

A friend wanted fish and chips takeaway. Although ordered by telephone, food was not ready for collection. Mid evening service slow, fish moderate only and chips undercooked. No sign of the extras ordered. It might be an idea for management to make up their mind to either provide a takeaway service or cease it.

Drove 12 miles as we do every Friday to get fish and chips from here got home they haven’t put the fish in the bag only chips and won’t answer phone to help very poor customer service and been ripped of for 2 large fish

I use Hartleys on a “VERY” regular basis (my waistline is testament to this!!) but the food is great, always fresh, and ordering ahead is really useful. Occasionally, their ordering system lets them down, which has never been a problem, your details are stored electronically, so a confirmation means that their system knows what you’ve ordered, even if the staff don’t! This has always been rectified quickly once inside the shop. If I had one complaint (and it’s only a minor niggle) is that there is a bit of a gamble in ordering portion sizes of chips. Sometimes a large portion would be enough to feed the village, and sometimes you wonder if you’ve accidentally ordered small??? Overall, our experiences have been positive, and of the various incarnations of our local chippy, this one definitely seems to work. The recent refurbishment has done away with the restaurant aspect, but has left a shiny new shop, which is clean, bright and inviting!!

Hartleys were fantastic in providing a large quantity of great food for a recent school fundraising event, the night was a huge success and the food massively contributed to that. We look forward to using Hartleys again soon!

This chippy is another example of someone's business acumen along with a nice well to do village and good marketing such as their website. However the fish, chips and mushy peas leave an awful lot to be desired. I have just visited Friday 10th September 2021. I asked for a fresh cod and chips along with a small mushy peas. The young man serving turned to look behind him and then told me that he had one up already. I gave him and the shop the benefit of the doubt which was my second mistake. The first was going in there in the first place! I popped next door to the Tesco express for some Fresh orange juice. When I came back some 3 minutes later my order was wrapped on the counter ready. Except for the small mushy peas. Which the young man was trying to remoisten by adding water and stirring and then heating in the microwave wave! I appreciate this practice isn't exclusive to this shop, but it's a poor do really. So how was the fish you may ask? Frankly it should have been binned around 20 minutes beforehand I'd say as clearly had been stood for too long. The chips were old and cold and the peas utterly disgusting just tasted of water. For some unknown reason people in certain parts of the south of England but not all accept this level of mediocre rubbish and that's being kind. The food was oily, greasy, sickly, cold and old for sure. The fish being particularly bad and grey for the most part and not worth £3 let alone the £8.55 that it cost me for small cod, chips and mushy peas! Frankly outrageous and I'm sure anyone with a knowledge and passion for quality fish and chips would say the same. I feel very disappointed in this shop and it's quality was severely lacking. Thinking of quality decent fish and chips? Then drive on by as you won't find them here that's for sure!

Best chip shop around the Hook area. Always busy, best tip is to use their App and pre order.

Husband went to buy fish and chips this evening. Didn’t take too long, portion of chips huge, but very poor quality, lots of them bruised. The fish was dreadful, wafer thin, over cooked and greasy. £14 down the drain! Never again.

Lovely new refurbishment shame the food didn't match , chicken burger was terrible ,rock hard stale burnt bun with brown wilted lettuce , very disappointed won't be returning :(

Had a takeaway from here tonight with the family for the first time in over a year and since there Refurb. And by "COD" (Pun intended) it was worth it everything was fresh, hot and enjoyable to the last bite. Safe to say we are going back. 😀😀

Good selection of food, Decent portions and good prices. App on Android and I os to allow pre-ordering to beat the queues they usually have. Only letdown is the poor parking, but you can park in the doctors car park behind for 35p (Including by Contactless payment) for long enough to grab your food Edit: March 2021. The site has recently been taken over by a new owner, and has been refurbished - Portion sizes have shrunk dramatically - With a large chips being half the size it used to be. Food quality is still good, but quantity has decreased substantially Only Chip shop in the area without going to Hook (Not V Good) or Fleet instead

They seem to concentrate on online orders only. If you walk in off the street you are ignored you may have to wait a while for service. They should have a member of staff looking after walk in customers.
