My husband and I have eaten breakfast a fews times at The Vaults so decided to treat my brother and his wife for breakfast today. Greeted by the lovely Katie and Henry who took our orders of avocado and poached eggs and full English breakfast with flat whites. Food cooked beautifully and flat whites are lovely. Love the friendly atmosphere at the Vaults and the staff are a credit to them. Thank you Katie and Henry for providing a fantastic service! Highly recommended 😊

Landlord was extremely welcoming the moment we opened the door. Had a lovely meal, two of us sharing tapas and others had the falafel salad. Everyone in pub was also given a free tray of amazing hot King prawns with bread, which was so nice. Very friendly atmosphere.

Visited The Vaults Pub last Monday at the beginning of our Rutland venture. The venue is both gorgeous and clean, however the general staffing is problematic and unfortunately quite rude. I had been informed via instagram that the pub offered cocktails and wished to try them. However when greeted by the bartender he refused to make them and hurled what seemed to be insults under his breath. Me and my husband were taken quite aback by this and made me feel quite upset being confronted by someone in such a lovely place with such poor customer service skills. We left feeling unwelcome and disappointed. Fortunately we happened to walk by a few days later and was greeted by a lovely blonde lad who apologised profusely for his colleague’s behaviour and was more than happy to make us some drinks. When it came to paying he’d already put it in the house and claimed to be part of the management team, glad that someone knows what they’re doing in this place. Wouldn’t advise coming in when the tall dark haired chap is in.

It is bad if you thank the bartender and he doesn't even say something like thanks for your custom have a good day. . No hello, no thank you, What do you want? 9.50. I don't think they want new customers here. Sad because it is nice and clean inside.

Situated in the market square of Uppingham you’ll find this charming Inn. It is very much a true traditional Inn, and not a modern revamped establishment. It may look as if it needs a refurb, but it still gives that cosy feel . The staff were pleasant and I couldn’t fault the drinks.

I am a local and regular at this fine establishment and don't dine here often enough, to my chagrin! I really should (order one of their stone baked pizza's next time you are in and you'll know why!) Anyway, due to unforeseen circumstances I found myself catering for one so decided to order a roast beef lunch (and blooming heck I could have so easily ordered the pork with crackling [yum!], the chicken or even the vegetarian roast, but decided to save them for other visits) and a glass of Malbec. Even though I'm a cheeky regular the staff served me as if I was their most valued diner, a cordiality they show to everyone, and a place was set for me and lunch duly arrived. And what a feast! The vegetables were perfectly cooked, down to the buttered green beans, crisp roasties, red cabbage, cauli cheese and traditional trimmings! Such good value too! I wish to commend all the staff, front of house and behind the scenes for not only creating such a great venue for locals and travellers to mingle and make friends alike, but for the top-notch service and excellent value of their offering. A huge thanks for a great Sunday afternoon! To be fair, only last week a chap said to me whilst waiting for his lift outside...."My goodness, they do the best Sunday lunch in there!" Well, now I can agree on that!

Sometimes things just work. I know this pub well . Two of us need uncomplicated Food -but we are discerning (well we think so) . So last night ,on a whim, lets eat here without moving. So we are indeed fortunate . The admirable Will Lammie is serving us - efficient on the ball as ever . Well able to cope with fussy people . And Luke is in the Kitchen . This is an opportunity not to be missed , Someone to take an order and a good chef to execute it. (They have at least two good chefs here ) Two fabulous Burgers- fine quality ground beef- none of that soggy patty stuff- real beef that is cooked perfectly . It will break apart with a fork. Off piste Skinny fries . Chillies different Cheeses etc - Fresh Salad . Perfection. And affordable . 10/10 those Burgers .

Came here on a Saturday because I saw they had a vegan menu online, went into the bar area around 2:10, place was full and busy so we waited for a table. Finally sat down at about 2:25, looked at the menu and went to the bar to order at 2:29 (only wanted a vegan antipasti sharer and chips) - we were refused service because they only serve food 12-2:30, however on a Saturday they serve sandwiches 2:30-5:30. We were refused any kind of service the guy behind the bar did not even ask what we wanted, said we couldn’t have anything!!! Not even a sandwich as advertised. Rude awful service.. will not return. Clearly don’t want our business. False advertisement, maybe print new menus. Thanks.

I usually try to avoid reviewing places I use regularly but decided to just drop a quick line. My children (grown up) came to visit for lunch as. So we had lunch here. So fish, chips etc were ordered, along with chicken carbonara, fajitas, and pulled pork quesidillas. All demolished in silence. The little salsa on my little side salad with the quesidilla packed a mean punch for size. Then choc fudge cake for the girls, and as the had run out of the maple pecan tart with salted caramel ice cream (please note I have had this yummy) it was lemon posset with a crunchy brulee topping with raspberry sorbet. Oh my yum. Along with the lovely service from Joe, Piers, Sammi, and Johnathon on a very busy rugby/football day. A lovely family meal.

Newly resident in Uppingham I was seeking a dog friendly local from a choice of six pubs in the area. I would only return if there was a good Champions League match on, likely to be the 2020 final. Charged over £3 for a pint of Diet Coke, which is outrageous. I also asked for a little ice and a larger portion reduced the volume of coke even further. Service was non existent. No eye contact , no welcome. I was made to feel uncomfortable. Plus point is dog friendly . They own Don Paddy’s which I have also reviewed. Similar poor vibe . Just does not feel right which is a shame.

Called in for a beer and a look at the menu as we were thinking of eating there the next evening. Lively pub in the centre of the market place. Seemed very popular with the locals and the helpful barmaid suggested we book as it would be busy. So we did. Beer selection good, friendly staff. One of our party had the chicken and chorizo skewers with sweet chilli dipping sauce. It looked lovely and he said tasted delicious. Damn! I thought. However my selected main course was no longer available so I asked if I could have the skewers as a main with fries and salad. No problem they said. When it arrived there was 4 skewers and they were great, I think they may become a regular on the mains. No room for desert. Great place. Would be more than happy to return next time.

Haven’t been in here for years but it was nice to see a traditional pub that hasn’t been sanitised and given the same Farrow & Ball grey makeover that 50% of Britain’s pubs seem to have had. Horse brasses on the walls, comfy seating and groups of people standing chatting at the bar. Good atmosphere & very few folk sat just staring mindlessly into their phones. The food looked your standard, overpriced average ‘ping and ding” catering fayre however and they need to get the awful Greene King beers that are IPA & Abbot Ale off the bar. This place is far better than that.

What a great pub! We stayed at The Falcon and opted not to eat because they were playing some live music and we'd just arrived after a long and weary drive from the south coast. We sat outside because the pub was full. But we didn't mind. The umbrellas outside had heat lamps and it was a warm night. We were one of many with dogs and the locals were very welcoming. Such a lovely group of people. We opted for pie and mash (an odd choice for a summers eve, but definitely needed with a rotten cold and tired limbs) and fish and chips .... how very English of us. Both meals were amazing and very generous on portion sizes. The pie was a proper one! No sign of a "modern-pastry lid only"... this was all encompassing buttery puff pastry with the best chicken and ham filling I think I've ever had!!! Fantastic meal. We had such a good dinner that night, that we actually returned for lunch the following day. My fiancé didn't feel so well and requested that the chef make scrambled eggs on toast- he duly obliged. I had sausages and mash - I still wasn't feeling 100% ... another great meal! Well done chef! Our little dog was always welcomed by the staff. Thank you - your pub is lovely. Popped in here twice lately whilst visiting my daughter. The first time this place was second choice as our first choice was not serving food at the time we arrived mid-afternoon.We ordered from the quick bites menu at the Vaults as their main menu ended at 2.30pm. This was fine as we were only peckish. We had a fish cujon baguette and a cheese and ham baguette, with chips on the side. The baguettes were large and we had to cut in half and take half home for later. Really pleasant place,we sat upstairs, nice view of the village square. nice staff, great value for our money, hence the second trip back and I would now make The Vaults my first choice when visiting Uppingham.

Arrived in Uppingham and we were really really hungry, after a quick look at the menu we went inside, we were welcomed in and we're told we could sit downstairs or upstairs, as it was busy downstairs we chose upstairs, I fancied a bitter shandy and was recommended by the barman to try ipa OK I said and it was brilliant, quickly followed by another. Staff great, food fantastic, clean and tidy and good toilets a really great pub. Will aim straight to there the next time we are that way.

We ate here Saturday evening they were busy but made us feel welcome and found us a table upstairs. We needed a gluten free option and the staff were knowledgeable and helpful. We had the chilli and ham egg and 'chips' though the chips were changed for a jacket potato to ensure gluten free. Portions were generous it was served quickly, simply presented but well cooked. Good honest pub grub at a reasonable price.

I really don't understand how this pub has received the reviews it has ? I can only assume it is due to the low competition in the area. Myself & my father were feeling hungry passing through Uppingham & decided to pull in to the main square where we saw this pub directly facing us.It looked quite busy so we popped in & had a look at the menu. My father decided to have the ham, egg & chips (which is a usual of his). I felt like something spicy & spotted the Chilli Con Carne. I asked the barmaid if it was spicy to which she replied"I'm not sure but I can ask Chef to spice it up a bit". Great I thought & ordered a pint of Guinness & waited. The service was good & it came to our table in a reasonable time.My fathers ham, egg & chips looked okay, well let's face it what could go wrong with ham, egg & chips ?As soon as I looked at my Chilli I could see straight away that something was wrong. Now for me a really good chilli should have a bit of sauce, maybe not as much as a bolognaise ( although I would like the saucier version as I love a good tasty sauce). It didn't really look like minced beef (although I'm sure it was) & it was so dry. It looked like red small bits of meat that had been fried dry & the sauce had all dried out or been absorbed.I thought, oh well it's not saucy but give it a try it might be really tasty. OH MY WORD ! ! ! I promise you I have never in my life tasted a more bland & dry meat dish ! It was absolutely AWFUL ! ! !It didn't really taste of anything, you knew you were chewing small bits of meat but it actually did taste like it looked, dry red small pieces of meat. It's hard to get across to the followers of Trip Advisor how dry, bland & tasteless this dish was. I was hungry & it was that bad I really couldn't have this in my mouth.I took one mouthful & put my knife & fork down & asked the barmaid to come to a quiet corner. I really don't like creating a scene in public. I told her in a polite manner (which I'm sure she will agree) what I thought of the food. I asked her to look at it & without even tasting it you could see how dry it was.I really wish I would have taken a picture of this as you would have been able to see first hand how dry it looked. She looked quite embarrassed & said would I like to choose something else to which I replied no thank you, can I just have the bill please. She did look a bit flustered & didn't know what to do & eventually asked if I wanted to have the chilli deducted from my bill. I said no, I'll just pay for it. I'm not someone who wants to go around complaining, taking one small mouthful of food & then walk out without paying, it really isn't about the money with me.If it was of an average standard I would have eaten it because I was hungry. I have never had bolognaise from a tin/can but I would imagine if I were to try one it would at least have some kind of tomato/chilli taste to it & some flavour.I use Trip Advisor all of the time & I never seem to put down pubs or restaurants that the meal has just been okay. It is always when I have had a good meal & the place deserves a recommendation or a bad meal to warn people away from somewhere I have had a bad experience meal.I am always truthful & very fair. To be honest the waitress shouldn't have asked me if I wanted a refund she should have insisted & not charged me. I had a third of a pint of my Guinness & one small mouthful of red beef.I'm looking forward to seeing if the proprietor takes this as a true & honest opinion or goes on the defensive. My Father did say his ham, egg & chips were okay so it would be safe to say I would stick to the safe bets if you were to choose to dine here. I then carried on my journey to Stamford where I live & ordered battered Pollock, chips & minted mushy peas which were gorgeous. I am just about to write a recommendation to this place. I'm fairly sure I am not allowed to mention it on this review. All in all, a rather expensive night.

We called in for lunch on a busy market day but didn't wait long for a downstairs table. Good menu choice plus specials board. We only wanted a light lunch and my veggie burger was an excellent choice, very tasty accompanied by wonderful coleslaw and onion rings (both home made)' The staff were friendly and welcoming on a miserable damp day and it would have been easy to have spent longer there. On our next visit we will return to sample the evening menu.

Here with friends from France and they wanted a full English . We went to the pub in the High St which was empty and the miserable boss refused to consider a late breakfast at 11.45 and just snugged ! Her loss as the Vaults came up trumps !Lovely understanding staff and great chef who went out of his way to show my friends good old English hospitality and food at a decent price !

The Vaults is owned by the same management team as the Falcon Hotel on the oppoosite site of the square and shares a similar ethos to good quality food, a good choice of wines and beer that the Falcon does. I have been here several times and it is well frequented by the locals, with the food and drink being not too pricey.

A lovely pint and also delightful to sit outside in the town square, watching the evening pass. I have not eaten here nor have I sat inside - it looks fine (but there s a TV). But it's perfect for a warm evening and a drink.
