The Vault Bistro & Speakeasy in Barnsley

First time at the Vault . My only complaint would be, do the customers leaving not know how to close the door. The food was excellent. Tasty , fresh and delicious. A table of four , choosing two bottles of wine, sharing platter for a starter and small plates as tapas etc. the bill was £118 and was well worth it. Customer service was very efficient and friendly . Only three visible staff working to a full restaurant as we arrived and nearly the last table to leave . Will definitely call at the Vault again.

If you're looking for the best food in Penistone, arguably the best in South Yorkshire you need to try this place. Their food is delicious and reasonably priced as well! Highly recommended a visit.

The lamb dish is huge. Thought the tapas/starters expensive. Nice but not that special. Wine is expensive. Hake didn't taste like hake to me. The platter with olives etc wasn't consistent. 2nd visit it was disappointing. Nice place and atmosphere although a bit loud.

We have never eaten here before, so thought we'd give it a go for a birthday celebration. The service we received from the minute we walked through the door was fantastic. As was the food. Everything was absolutely delicious. There is a huge amount of the menu which if GF which is a huge bonus for us, and everything was incredibly tasty. We will definitely be going back.

I came for tea with my son last night. My son had the creamy mushroom Gnocchi from the large plate menu. He throughly enjoyed it and said that it was a really tasty creamy sauce and the chicken tender. I opted for the flat iron steak, Asian broccoli and the Parmesan crusted Hake from small plates. It was all faultless 🤩 The sauce from the broccoli was delicious and the Hake was beautiful. I had a limoncello spritz, refreshing and not too much. We often eat here as it’s great place and Lee is a fab chef. The waitress staff and service is fantastic as well as the ambience. We are really lucky to have this amazing place on our doorstep. The ambiance of this place is perfect. It looks beautiful, everything about it is spot on. The staff are amazing too. Excellent service. The food is good quality, well made and exactly the right price for it. Love this place and can't wait to go back. Had a perfect Sunday lunch. I've recently been to The Dunkirk which everyone raves about, seriously I thought this place is way better.

The restaurant has a lovely decor and atmosphere, we really wanted to give it five stars as it’s a restaurant that is unique to Penistone and on our doorstep. Service was excellent, very attentive and knowledgable staff. I ordered Ribeye steak, it was good, and cooked to to my liking, it was served with tired looking fries and half a plateful of rocket (why so much rocket?). My wife ordered the lamb, it came with a very rich red cabbage side which completely overpowered the taste of the lamb. We have dined here on a number of occasions but unfortunately tonight was the best.

Booked here last minute and I am very happy we did, delicious food the small plates still had plenty on me and my partner shared 3 with some fries and were stuffed!! We also had two cocktails each which were fantastic. The price was also very reasonable would definitely go back if I was in the area (:

Went for a meal on Friday for my birthday not having been before. We were in the upstairs room which was beautiful, a lovely atmosphere. Excellent service from the waitresses. We decided to have the tapas and chose 6 dishes between us, we do like our food but actually 5 would have been enough. All the food was delicious and so very tasty, my favourites were the broccoli, cod taco and the the Korean sticky chicken. Although full we couldn’t resist a pudding, the panna cotta was gorgeous so creamy. Would definitely go again for a meal, I want to try the hanging kebabs next time as the ones the table next to us had looked amazing. Well worth a visit.

We came in on a Friday night with our slightly aging father in law who was visiting. Had a selection of small dishes; prawns, bao buns, Korean chicken and arancini. Everything was hot, fresh and tasty. Couldn’t have asked for more Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Spot on for us. And the slightly aging father in law loved his first experience of something that wasn’t meat and veg. We’ll definitely be back when he next visits; and before.

Lovely local restaurant with good food and good atmosphere

Rude staff, only 2 hour slot allowed. How can you have a 3 course meal, wine, coffee in this time. Wasn't told this on arrival. Was literally thrown out after 1 HR and 50 , with no flexibility. Just asked to leave. Very restrictive. Short sighted and dealt with in an in professional and rude manner. I guess it's ok if you just want a quick snack, coffee and cake etc. Not for a nice meal or evening out. Warning! Set your alarm clock and eat very quickly.

Visited for Sunday dinner at the weekend, but half of food was missing. First of all we arrived and everyone was seated next to eachother when half of the place was empty, we could have been spread out so we didnt all feel so close to each other! We all ordered Sunday dinner and on the menu it states all the items it comes with, the meat was great (Beef) so I cannot fault that. But we were missing half the vegetables and instead given a dish of courgette. None of us were told about the missing veg we had to ask where it was, they said they had 'run out'. This was only at 3.30PM so no hope for anyone after us. Annoyed we wasn't told that half our food would be missing. Also ran out of mint sauce, there is a co op across the road I'm sure many pubs run out to get something a lot of people have! We then asked for a drink which never arrived to the table, but was charged on our bill at the end. It doesn't seem to be managed that well and has very young inexperienced staff working here. Wouldn't come again for Sunday dinner

We had a really lovely evening dinner for seven of us at this fab restaurant! The place is stylish with a nice vibe to it. All the staff were helpful, warm & welcoming. Our various dishes, including starters, mains & desserts, were all delicious, beautifully cooked, presented & served at a nice speed.

My wife, stepdaughter and I were first time visitors to the Vault last Sunday having booked a table at 4-30 for a Sunday lunch that was advertised as being available until 8.00pm. Despite the menu stating “when it’s gone it’s gone” we thought this wouldn’t be an issue at 4-30, but sadly it was. We all ordered Roast beef dinners (we were told prior to ordering that pork options weren’t available, which was fine) and when they arrived they were all minus the mash, broccoli and cauliflower cheese. In hindsight I wish I had mentioned this to the waitress at the time but to be honest I couldn’t remember exactly what should have accompanied the roast as the menus had been taken upon placing our order. The waitress made no mention of which items were no longer available and hence no offer of alternatives were made nor of a reduction in price to reflect the fact that items were missing either of which I would have expected to be the case. To add to what was a disappointing initial experience of The Vault the food that did arrive wasn’t particularly hot and the length of time it took to serve 2 courses (2 hours) was excessive and so we currently sit in the undecided camp as regards whether or not to make a second visit because we do frequent Penistone reasonably often.

The staff were really friendly and accommodating. We went for brunch and the food was amazing. We had some pancakes as a dessert which were delicious and the presentation was fantastic.

Found this fantastic spot whilst staying in Penistone, had a quick coffee on the Saturday (could've done with some cake) returned on Sunday for a fabulous brunch, a memory that will linger - nicely presented by a happy and helpful team it's a shame its a weekend only offering!

We had a really lovely meal here last night . We had the chicken skewers and Fries which were delicious ! The ambience was just right , the staff were all lovely , friendly and polite . I finished the night off with an amazing cocktail , probably the best pornstar martini I’d ever had !

Tapas, blues cellist and singer at our first visit to the Vault. Very good value (priced very reasonably). The food was good and the staff were really friendly. I hope they do events like this again.

My husband and I booked dinner here during a weekend stay. We arrived a little early for our booking, but we're seated immediately. The server apologised that it would be quiet tonight as the heavy snowfall meant a lot of tables had cancelled. Even so, the ambiance if the restaurant was relaxed and welcoming, and I can imagine being livelier would only enhance that. We ordered from the small dishes menu, and ate tapas style. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection, had bags of flavour, and were portioned wonderfully, though do go hungry! We had six items between us and were stuffed by the end of it! We couldn't decide what we would have dropped, with hindsight, as everything was so delicious. The waiting staff were really attentive, appeared to actually care about whether we were happy, and were chatty, but not in an intrusive way. If we're back this way again, would definitely come back, and would highly recommend it.

Came for breakfast on sat morning before heading out mountain biking. Went to the bar, wasn't acknowledged so sat down for 10 minutes, no one came to serve so went back to the bar and asked if anyone was serving. She then took my order. Was given tea with a tea pot with no lid then waited half an hour for breakfast and nothing arrived. I then went to the bar to ask if they had forgotten about me, they said it was on the way. 5 mins later the young waitress came to my table to say there was a shortage, which was a lie as she had given my breakfast to someone else which I pointed out to her and she agreed, so I walked out. Absolutely awful experience and will never return .

Friendly staff and good drinks. My brunch was very nice but the rest of my party didn't have such a nice meal. The food was just barely cooked and served luke warm at best. Food was no more than average ....fillet steak was very over cooked and tuff....then once bill was split it turned out short because on our £236 bill there was a hidden service charged of £24 .... Which should be our option not compulsory!!!! When we arrived we were advised we could sit in the window or downstairs, we chose downstairs. there were a couple of bottomless brunch tables and a couple of normal tables. We had our drinks order taken, but waited at least 15 mins for our drinks to arrive. In that time 2 other members of staff came to take our order, to which we had advised had already been taken. Eventually we got our drinks after about 15 to 20 mins.(a very long wait. )We felt to bottomless brunch table orders had been prioritised as orders taken after ours were served first) the drinks tasted very strong so we questioned if they were doubles. The waitress checked and confirmed they were singles, and brought us an extra mixer) me and my partner both agreed they still didn’t taste anything like makers mark, but never saw another waitress to make them aware. We opted to go to the bar, pay and leave. That’s when we got the bill and realised the reason the drinks didn’t taste right, was because we were given Jamesons, instead of makers mark. Not the best service, and to be given the wrong drinks after 15 mins of being messed around, I don’t think we’d return.

The Vault is becoming our favourite place for breakfast. There is a lovely vibe, with beautiful decor and very pleasant attentive staff. The coffee is very good, the food is nice and is well cooked. I feel the pricing is right too, reflective of the environment and food on offer.

Visited here recently with friends. The restaurant had just launched a brand new menu and I can honestly say that’s it’s the first restaurant I’ve been to where I would eat everything on the menu. There was four of us and we all had different dishes which was as tasty as each other’s. The only thing I would say is pricey is the desserts just under £7 which I think is a tad to much . Overall it’s a lovely place to have a nice meal and the staff were excellent friendly and gave you time and space to relax. We will be returning.

The staff were magnificent, very helpful in trying to arrange a taxi for us. The food was delicious, the vegan gnocchi was so creamy and cheesy that you'd never know it was vegan. Delicious desert too, and great wine to accompany.

I called here this afternoon to have lunch with 3 friends. We haven’t seen each other in a while so it was nice to catch up. On arriving here we were treat really well, the staff are really friendly, happy and willing to help in anyway they could. My friends and I all had the Beef Sunday lunch, well what can I say it was absolutely fantastic, it’s the very best Sunday lunch I’ve had in years. A big thank you to all the staff for making our visit so lovely, and also to the catering staff for the beautiful meal!!!

Don't bother trying to get in here as no one can be bothered to answer the phone. Called over two days and either got ringing tone where no one answered to immediate engaged (like they took the phone off the hook). Called when they were open (late on) and also in the hour before they opened so cannot use the excuse they were busy. Tried over 70 times and it's just not worth it. These people really are not interested in customers.

It's a charming little bistro. The chicken milanese was very lightly breaded. My mate had the Sunday Roast, and it was quite sizeable. The staff were very friendly.

Had a great meal here at the start of entering into level 3. Felt quite safe with screens up between tables and good distance from each other. Nice beers on tap and a great choice for carnivores and vegetarians alike. My partner and I shared a few tapas items (4) for our mains and left satisfied with regards to our hunger needs.
