What a great place to stay honestly couldn’t have been better,management was definitely 5 stars couldn’t do enough for us,room was clean food was amazing and beer was good l would honestly stay here again

Amazing find, little gem. Great for exploring The Lakes. Host and staff were very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. Food was great, room cozy and clean. Pet friendly. 10/10 already booked to go back.

Just been for our 2nd Sunday Dinner in the last few weeks as we were craving the first one! Beef,ham and lamb all tenderly cooked with tradition veg and a lovely rich gravy. Lovely old pub with friendly staff. Will be back again soon.

Tried the Sunday Lunch. It was fantastic. The beef was perfectly cooked as was the honey roast ham. Served with roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, carrot and swede mash side serving dish with another 4 vegetables. I thought I made the best gravy I have ever had, I accepted yesterday that I am now only in second place to the gravy that chef and his term served with the roast dinner. This gravy should be on prescription. There was also a choice of 3 starters and 3 desserts. Very fairly priced at any 2 courses for £15. Before and after a very good pint of ale was enjoyed. Great host , clever chef and attentive kitchen staff. In the tidy village of Brampton try the New Inn 1730 you will not be disappointed. Northwestnige

High quality roast enjoyed by all the family. Generous portion of sliced beef accompanied by delicious mixed veg and rich gravy, every plate was left clean ! Peter and the team offer a warm and friendly welcome in a cosy setting , steeped in history. The kids enjoyed a good game of dominos by the fire. We really enjoyed our visit and will certainly be back to try the weekend menu very soon.

A very characterful pub. We had a very tasty meal here. It was also excellent value, the only fault being the food was a little too salty. The choice of music was also good. The pub is very friendly and welcoming and could have been very cosy if the open fire had been lit as it was a chilly evening. I would fully recommend a visit to the pub

Had a lovely early evening meal here. The service is great with friendly Landlord and staff. The Lamb dish was delicious, served piping hot and the sticky toffee pudding with custard was just divine.

I love this place most as a pub. It has retained such rich historic detail. I love the wood, stone, flags, old oven and pots. I can imagine coming in from a cold wet wild Cumbrian winter and being welcome with sodden garments and sodden dog. Sitting here is like sitting with the locals in their front rooms. I'm puzzled by the bar closing at 9pm, and hope this is not a signal that the pub will soon only do food. The food is great value with £15 for two courses. There is something for everyone from mushroom packed soup to antipasti and always a vegetarian option. I particularly like that you can get an organic drink here, with organic prosecco on the menu last time. The family enjoyed their Sunday Roasts today.

Great to see the New Inn back open again after a break caused by all the disruption that came with Covid. Their traditional Sunday lunches are the best in the area - a range of meat (and a veggie option), all of it cooked perfectly, and plenty of vegetables. Decent price, too - recently it's been £15 for two courses, with excellent starters plus desserts if you want them. Usually a couple of real ales and wine that is reasonably priced. Best to check opening times.

Recently stayed at a nearby campsite and decided to try out the new inn for Sunday lunch. The pub has had a change of use in recent months and gone back to a pub doing food and drink , well it was excellent the food was delicious and will definitely be returning when next in the area . Dropped in for a beer and a sample of the food. This is a historic and beautiful pub. The staff were really friendly, the soundtrack familiar to 1980s music lovers and great food to boot. Great pub, great British pub.

So The New Inn is now a venue that you can hire that offers the pub and dining area downstairs, and accomodation above. We stayed for a weekend for my mother's 60th birthday celebrations and it was fantastic weekend. The pub and dining area are very traditional, and a great area for socialising. The bedrooms upstairs are very modern with various bathrooms, and very comfortable beds. The site itself is very large with a commercial catering sized kitchen, so perfect for a group of 14 adults. Overall I would certainly recommend this place to anyone looking for somewhere to stay for a large group of people!

Best pub I've ever owned for a week.

Went on Saturday 22nd May at 5 30pm door was open so I entered to see if dog's were allowed. No one in the bar which was very messy so i called hello. I heard voices from room to the left and saw 7 or 8 men at a table, one of whom got up and actually pushed me back towards the door saying it was a private party and closed for weekend gave me a final shove and slammed the door shut

When I made the booking for this hotel, I knew it was good find. The lovely gentleman who took our booking was so kind and went out of his way to accommodate us. And thankfully he proved me right. I recently stayed here with my family, including 2 young children. Never have my children (and the rest of us) felt so at home in a b&b. The property itself is obviously old and has retained many of its original features, it feels like stepping back in time with low beams and roaring fires. Nevertheless the ample size rooms that accommodated 3 adults and 2 children were cosy and had incredibly comfy beds. The best thing about the hotel I’d say, is the wonderful welcome we received from the hostess. She did everything within her power to make us feel at home and couldn’t do enough to please. Including a delicious and overly generous breakfast. They’re definitely feeders here. The location is breathtaking, the food outstanding and the staff exceed themselves, what more could you ask for?

This pub is now a self catering party hub. "rescued" from its sad role as a traditional village inn. Please be aware if you are rambling or cycling in the area.

First time visit we were not disappointed

Attractive pub with gorgeous open fire and impressive selection of beers. Friendly staff and they do a proper vegan burger.

We were staying in the village for a week and ate here a few times. The food is excellent and they had veggie/vegan options for someone in our group. The food and drink is prices are reasonable too. All the staff are very friendly.

Went for opening day advertised as 2 for 1 on selected beers(note plural)...only one real ale which was not good so had to settle for inferior creamflow which they would not offer on the promotion. Till not able to offer a tab. No card payments. Very very cold inside. At about 1.30 fire lit with bellows of smoke into pub....a smokehouse and not pleasant...fire should have been on well before opening to air rooms especially as Saturday night had been down to minus 5 or more. Carvery would have been reasonable had the vegetables been kept hot and the Yorkshire Puddings not been dry and burnt. Would have returned this week but will give the place a miss and go to other more welcoming and warm places. Clear just not ready to properly open after closure and to fail to comply with offer might be viewed as contavening Trading Standards Regulations.

It's December 1st. First day serving a carvery. Choice of meats, Roast Beef, Roast Turkey and Roast Pork also a vegetarian option But Roast. Choice of 8 vegetables Leek and Bacon being particularly delicious. Without doubt the best Carvery that I have ever attended. All meats were succulent and perfectly cooked. VERY highly recommended. Just got home after an evening out at the New Inn at Hoff near Appleby-in-Westmorland with friends. Had some brilliant home cooked food in a very hospitable inn. Well worth a visit for good food and hospitality by Arron and Carolyn.

One of our party inadvertently left the gate open upon entering the grounds of the pub. None of us saw the small sign on the gate asking for the gate to be closed. On entering the pub, what transpired to be the owner's puppy shot out of the door and bolted through the gate. The landlady literally pushed one of our party out of the way and berated us for leaving the gate open. The puppy was brought back into the pub, unharmed. The atmosphere was frosty, but we (foolishly in hindsight) decided to order a drink from the bar. The landlord was pleasant, and all seemed OK, although his wife was obviously upset and was stomping around the pub with a face like thunder. We sat down to have our drink, and were immediately told in a rather instructional manner to use the coasters on the table. Obviously the main topic of our conversation during our short stay was the rather brusque manner with which we had been dealt with so far, and how we as customers had been made to feel we were to blame for their puppy running out of the pub. Realistically, how are first time visitors supposed to know that there is a dog waiting to run out into the road? The landlord came over at one point and asked us what we had planned for the weekend. It was quite a pleasant exchange to be fair. We finished our drinks, taking our glasses to the bar as a parting good will gesture. One of our party needed to visit the bathroom before leaving, the rest of us exited and made our way across the road to the car park. As our friend made his way from the toilet to the exit of the pub he could hear the landlord telling other customers how ignorant we were, so he made his presence known and told the landlord to shut up. The first time I become aware of this development is when I saw our friend walking out from the pub followed by the landlord and landlady who were shouting abuse at him. The situation escalated when the landlord threatened physical violence towards our friend, and the landlady attempted to throw a punch at my wife. We were told we were 'up ourselves' and we were told not to visit their pub again. One of our party had the presence of mind to record the fracas outside the pub on their phone. We didn't want this experience to spoil our weekend, so have not taken this serious matter any further as yet.

Called in for lunch as we were passing .the menu seemed very appealing with good choices. I was then told there was a special ready , a slow cooked beef casserole with peppers .It sounded delicious so I ordered it . On its arrival I could not believe what I had been served! A few strips of pre cooked sliced beef and peppers in a thick gelatinous gravy that I wouldn’t even give Bisto the blame for ! This had no way been prepared as a casserole but thrown together some scraps of pre cooked beef and a pepper and a thick packet gravy added ! It was terrible !

Very friendly pub, dogs welcome. Definitely not a chain as all food is cooked to order so they can run out - a v good sign. 3 local beers on draught. Warm, toasty fire, really nice calm atmosphere.

We were staying in a holiday cottage in the village and this pub had been recommended by the owners so we tried it on our first night. We had a drink in the cosy bar first which has a good range of local and craft beers, and a nice selection of gins. We ate in the dining room but you can also eat in the bar area which is more relaxed. I had the Cumberland sausages and my husband had the weekly pie special. Both were excellent, good value and the portions were generous so we weren’t able to manage a dessert although they looked tempting. The staff were very friendly and welcoming despite the fact that the pub was busy with locals as it was also quiz night. We returned late in the week as we enjoyed it so much. To be recommended if you’re staying in the area.

We ate here on our first night in the area after it was recommended to us by the owners of our holiday accommodation.We found it after a short stroll down a bridle path from our cottage, which brought us out at the back of the pub.It was quiet when we arrived but some other families soon arrived. The service was efficient and there was lots to choose from on the menu. Myself and my husband shared the meat platter and our daughter had a burger from the children's menu. We all really enjoyed our food. It was delicious. Somehow we found room for dessert. There was something to suit all tastes. We would definitely come back if we are in the area again. Thanks for a lovely meal!

Since the newest owners took over this place has been great! The food that comes out the kitchen is really good, the price isn't awful and the atmosphere is lovely. Brilliant for a nice, relaxing family meal with good food and nice people.

great sunday dinner ,i had roast beef, my partner had the raost turkey,which came with stuffing .pigs in blanket and yorkshie, quick service , lovely brownie for dessert,must mention,the beer was excellant ,enjoyed it all.we hadnt booked and we were lucky to get a table as it was very busy.Definately come again, 5 stars

On Sunday I rang and booked to reserve a table, the man on the phone was very helpful. On arrival the staff were wonderful, friendly and very professional, we sat down straight away after we had our drinks order taken.... the Sunday dinners we had were lovely, perfectly portioned... lovely puddings. Over all it was a really positive father’s Day experience and a superb and quality dinner to go with it.

Been here a couple of times before, once to see what's what when the pub reopened and again with our daughter and her family (including three perpetually hungry growing boys).

We live in Appleby and we visited this great pub/restaurant for the second time last week. Our daughter, son-in-law and 3 grandsons ( who have very good appetites) were visiting us unexpectedly so this was a last minute plan.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our food at the New Inn, Brampton. The lamb shank, succulent; guinea fowl, tender. Mashed potato, warming. Steamed vegetables, cooked and crisp...Then the apple crumble and custard, with cinnamon - excellent. Thankyou very much

So pleased we tried this place after it being recommended. The staff were lovely & very welcoming. The food was fabulous & the kids menu great too. Loved the fact our 6 year old could get a small portion of the Sunday roast beef with trimmings. Definitely worth a visit.

called in sunday night, was quite busy but we got a table for 4 , all had real ales ,all spot on. ordered our food and it came in good time, lovely presentation and all tasted great, the young waitress looked after us and we all had a great meal. my recommendation would be the lamb shank, so tasty and a really good portion .all in all a cracking country pub and we will be back

Both had seabass fillets with risotto fabulous! Then sticky toffee pud and waffle with butterscotch sauce gorgeous.Beer was great as was the service and hospitality! Well done guys!

Once again, the hosts, Carolyn and Arron, excelled. Having enjoyed many a five star Sunday lunch at this ‘gem’ in The Eden Valley, I approached them with a view to preparing a special menu for my wife’s birthday. The effort, consideration, attention to detail, the excellent food and hosting deserves a well earned five stars. Highly recommended. We will be back, again and again.

Knowing that The New Inn was under new management we waited a short while and visited for lunch. Chris and Chloe arrived from their previous establishment with a good reputation, so we were confident that we wouldn't be disappointed.

Cosy old Inn on edge of North Pennine AONB. Good selection of real ales and fresh home cooked meals. The Fish and Chips were especially good and the lamb shank melted off the bone. Lovely relaxed atmosphere to chill out in, dog friendly too..recommend trying out if staying in the area or want a break from traffic on A66. The New landlords are very welcoming.

staying in the village for wk end - this is only pub.(300 yrs old) believed new owners only been in for 2 weeks , however clean + tidy with real log fire. small ,but varied beer /ciders choice . .food menu nice selection + home sourced / cooked......very nice. real olde world eating area - relaxing-. overhaull we were impressed + will return. good for walkers

Just reopened with new landlords, visited with a group of friends for a meal which was excellent. We had one vegetarian with us and she enjoyed the choices as well. Good prices and good quantities and would recommend visiting.

I went for sunday lunch on easter sunday with a family group, the Turkey was to die for, all of our group really enjoyed the meal and I must also mention the sticky toffee pudding which was amazing. I would definatly recommend anyone to call in if they are close by. You won't be disappointed.

This pub has very recently reopened under new owners so we gave it a try. We both went for Chris’s ‘almost legendary’ fish and chips and boy we were not disappointed! Excellent quality and lots of it too! All desserts were home made (sticky toffee pudding to die for) and great beer and draught cider to accompany. Very friendly staff made for a really pleasant evening.

Visitamos aquí durante un viaje de geocaching. Parecía que el medio de la nada, pero como entramos nos recibió una encantadora pareja que también hizo un alboroto de nuestro perro. Estaba muy tranquilo, así que teníamos un montón de conversación con ambos. Que hambre y me hicieron un buen almuerzo con el tamaño de las porciones y productos frescos, nos quedamos muy impresionados, bien merece una visita :).

We booked a B & B in this village as we didn't want to be in the ccentre of Appleby and it had a pub. Unfortunately it was never open. We were there Friday and Saturday nights?

We have visited the New inn three times this month - twice to eat. The food is excellent and plentiful and the company is very welcoming. It is certainly a pub restaurant that we will visit regularly. Keep up the good work.

A typical country pub nothing exotic, the staff were friendly and they did a good Sunday lunch but they only did meals Sunday and curry night on a Wednesday, they only opened at night so no lunches available

Mis padres, sobrino y yo fuimos para el almuerzo este domingo. Encontré este lugar en Tripadvisor y pensamos que nos daría una oportunidad. No nos decepcionó, estaba delicioso. Yo aconsejaría reservar ya que no es un lugar enorme. Es un encantador pub antiguo con comidas caseras. Teníamos la opción de cerdo y carne de cordero y entre todos nosotros probamos cada uno. Mi sobrino tenía parte de los niños, que era la mitad de precio, pero todavía era de un buen tamaño. Todas las verduras frescas y 2 budines caseros con cada también encendida con el cerdo. Tuvimos que pedir patatas puré y pagamos extra ya que se trata de un indispensable para mi padre y yo en nuestro almuerzo de domingo. Precioso salsa también. En general, una cena aunque el relleno hubiera sido agradable. Sin duda volveremos

Mi pareja y yo visitamos el New Inn el domingo 5 de julio. . Nos recibió el personal no sólo pero también la gente. El asado del domingo era para morirse, era absolutamente delicioso! ! El personal no podía hacer más por ti, te llevaban bebidas, y también se aseguró de que no requiere nada más. No podría recomendar este restaurante acogedor poco más! Bien merece una visita! !

I have been several times over the last few months both with family and friends, always a warm welcome from Flash. The food has never disappointed having dined both Sunday lunchtimes and evenings. The curry night is a hit, food prices are reasonable given the quality. The beer is good and a small selection of reasonable priced wines. Would recommend.

Splendid menu and daily specials. Fresh homely meals cooked to a very high standard served by friendly welcoming staff who are aways attentive. Open fires add to the wonderful atmosphere - a must if you are in the area.

We first visited this country pub in January this year and loved the Sunday lunch we had there. We are two couples who had spent the last few days visiting my relatives in Scotland. We all decided that an ideal way to round off the weekend would be to stop at the New Inn for a traditional Sunday roast. We arrived at about 2pm and the locals were enjoying the food. We were given a warm welcome and ordered drinks the locally brewed beer is partially good. Beef, Lamb & Pork were the choices but we found that the pork had sold out but we could have crackling if we wished with the Lamb or Beef.2 Beef and 2 lamb formed our order after a short wait the food arrived and we were not disappointed. Generous portions of well cooked meat, great Yorkshire puddings and wonderful veg (cabbage,carrots, courgettes and lovely roast potatoes) accompanied by delicious gravy. All for just £10 a head. If you are travelling on the A66 give this place a try, its the best Sunday lunch you will get anywhere.

We have a seasonal caravan in dufton and we were told about the nice food in this little pub. We got the choice of pork Beef or Lamb and we chose beef , It was beautiful and tender with red cabbage cauliflower and courgettes and seasoned roast potatoes . The portions were huge , Well done we will be back.

We were actually staying at a hotel about 15 minutes up the road but after reading the reviews for this place we wanted to try it and we were not disappointed!! We went in without a reservation but was told not to worry. We sat at the bar and had a drink until we were shown to our table. There was only one poor waitress who remained happy and polite the whole evening serving every table that was packed. Our food was so delicious we ordered three courses and I think for everything it was just under £50. Its hidden out the way but I would make it my first port of call if you're down that way!

We stopped off at The New Inn on our way back to our holiday cottage in Long Marton. Warm welcome for us and the dogs as soon as we arrived, the dogs even got their own water and a treat. It was Monday fish and chip night so we decided to stay for food as well as sampling some locally brewed ale. Big portions and really tasty. We ate in the bar with the dogs but the restaurant looked nice too. Plenty of people in from locals to visitors to the area, really friendly atmosphere.

I enquired about booking a table for 7...only to be turned away at the door! The guy watering the plants outside stated that his wife who would doing the cooking would be stuck in the kitchen for over an hour cooking our food which ment she wouldn't be able to deal with any other orders! I've never heard of something so crazy in my life....do they not need customers? Obviously not if they can afford to turn them away!! Disappointed the say the least!

Had a great night here following a mystery tour for a 70th birthday. The entire bus load of friends and relatives were fed and watered with fabulous food and drink. Chris the chef, Flash the barman and their staff were brilliant. Excellent braised beef and chicken in white wine, plus Vegetable pie for the veggies which by all accounts was fabulous. Good Tirril ale rounded off the meal perfectly. 10 out of 10 for this brilliant country pub in Brampton.

Initial impression was worrying. Barman explaining to other customers that no salad was available. It was 8pm Friday and the place was not full. Local beer was good. Offered a free round of drinks because of the very slow service. When we eventually were served, the food was tasty. Not quite Fawlty Towers!

read the reviews on tripadvisor so thought would try. I had phoned on an earlier date to see if they could deal with coeliac and they said they could but were booked that night. On arriving we were told that part of the menu was not on Sunday night. My husband coeliac had a few choices but thought the beef would be the safest. when it came it was swimming in gravy didnt look very attractive. would have been better in a gravy boat. veg and roast potatoes. Two of had chips which looked burnt they actually didnt taste as burnt as they looked. sweets only two of us opted for creme brulle worst i have ever seen. Loads of white sugar on the top not brulled much bits of it were but I had to take all the undone sugar off. the white choc underneath was not as light as i would expect. so dissapointed. If i get any feedback from the pub about not saying anything at the time really should i have to the chef could see what was coming to the table.

We visited on a Wednesday night whilst on holiday in nearby Dufton, it was curry night. We had very tasty Thai beef and lamb curry and fab Tirril ales including a lovely Pilsner

All pubs should be like this. Excellent ales and wonderful meals along with thoughtful, friendly staff. Locals love it and you can see why. Ambience is terrific - just like a film set. Larger than life host 'Flash' is the icing on the cake.

Were there for dinner last Saturday visitng from London. Best pub meal we've had in a long time. Locally sourced meat was particularly impressive and beer was fresh as could be. Service couldn't be bettered. Absolute gem of a place.

This was our first visit since the pub has undergone some changes and we were very impressed. The food was excellent, quite reasonable and very tasty. The locally sourced meat is exceptional. There is a choice of home made chips or mash and either salad or vegetables, and the portion sizes are very generous. The only thing that could have been improved was if there had been a selection of starters on the menu. There were a couple on the specials board but not a great choice. The staff were friendly and efficient.

We were staying in Kirby Thore, myself , wife, 2 daughters and son in law + our dog. My wife telephoned them midweek before our visit on Sat 9 April to confirm they were dog friendly & if we needed to book as we did not wish to commit to a time due to being out walking during the day. We were told we should be ok. So arrived around 7.45pm. I entered with the dog in to a bar which would not be suitable for eating, it had a pool table in a prominent position, suitable only to have a drink, so turned left to the eating area. " You can't go in there with the dog" the barmaid said to me in the most unfriendly manner. I asked if food would be available for 5 people and again in a most sharp unfriendly tone she said she would check with the chef as they had a party of 9 in. The rest of my party then joined me and agreed it was not a suitable room in which to have a meal so we told the man who had come out to confirm that food was available that we had changed our mind partly due to the barmaid's attitude. We have been to many pubs where there is a suitable eating area where dogs are allowed but in no way did this apply here.

The Appleby Tourist Info Centre recommended visiting the New Inn - we'd spotted the blackboard on the roadside already - so we popped over for a Wednesday curry night. What a lovely welcome! Such a great atmosphere with a mixture of locals and visitors, cosy fires and a pool table, and fab selection of Tirril ales. The kids opted for a korma while the adults went for medium-spicy lamb, and everyone was thoroughly impressed - best pub curry we've ever eaten, at excellent value, and we keep telling everyone about it! We only stumbled on this pub, during a walk from Rutter Falls. Only having drinks. But we were pleasantly welcomed. I imagine a lovely winters evening in this pub with a warm cola fire to keep you warm

What a fantastic transformation! A great deal of effort and attention must have gone into creating this place. The décor and styling within the property appears retro and stripped back. I loved the cosy lit fireplaces, helping to create a warm village pub atmosphere. Bar and waiting on Staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. I can fully recommend the food, simply the best lamb and rosemary pie I've ever tasted, served with a choice of either mash or chips and veg or salad. I chose the chips and veg and wasn't disappointed. Good selection of wine and spirits. A nice variety of vodka and gin on offer. Didn't have room for a dessert - although will return very soon to sample the cheesecake!

Visited this pub recently on recommendation of friends we were visiting and we were not disappointed. The roast dinner was one of the best I have ever eaten. Generous portion size and served piping hot with all the works including boiled red cabbage which I had never eaten before but was delicious. Other people in our party had the lasagne and the salmon and enjoyed it thoroughly. The New Inn is a really quaint village pub and I highly recommend it even just for a drink. There is also a pool table there (50p a game) which kept our 9 year old occupied!

Six of us spent all of Sunday Evening here and enjoyed some excellent food and ale in traditional surrounding with roaring wood fires. The Steak was Lamb were super tender and our vegetarian friend loved his baked veggie pie. Tirril Brewery own and run this gem of a pub selling their own excellent ales to accompany the meals cooked by their own master chef. Front of house we were looked after by 'Flash' who keeps a lovely pint - the Red Barn was our favourite. Lovely sauces, Yorkshires and vegetables all cooked to perfection - loved it!

Great food, nice beer, open fires and the world's best chips.
