My friends and I went to the Putney restaurant for a birthday meal. Two of us both ordered the lobster roll and a side of chips. When the food came out we were shocked by the lack food. The chips came in a tiny bucket yet still cost me £3 and the lobster roll was delicious but consisted of little lobster and I was eating a lot of bread that hadn't been filled which cost me £14.95!When we spoke to the manager she was pleasant however couldn't do anything about the size or cost of our meals and sent us away with a free milkshake. I understand lobster is expensive however there wasn't enough of it for it to cost so much, and I would have never ordered chips at that price if I new I'd be getting less than a hand full.I will not be visiting here again.

Had a family meal here that left us feeling unsatisfied. It started great with the pulled pork bruschetta, which were fantastic. My wife went for stuffed peppers which lacked any real flavour or bite.We shared some ribs for the main. The sauce was really tasty and there was plenty of it, but it was really just trying to hide the fact the meat had no taste at all. It should have have been cooked for longer as was also tough to get off the bone. The service was fine but we left unsatisfied from the food.

Nice set up and a tasty menu. Been here a number of times and the food is always good. One thing though is that the service quality has dropped recently - we sat outside it took nearly 15 minutes to get offered menus and a drink. During our meal there was no checking in with us (we only got 1 drink the whole time I would have had 3 so it's just lost business for them), got served toast and asked if I wanted butter for which I then had to wait 5 minutes so toast was cold (just bring butter with the meal!), drinks were wrong, and after waiting for 20 minutes for someone to come to our table to clear plates and offer us the bill (not drinks, you only get 1 it seems) we gave up and luckily for them went inside to pay! Small things that are easily fixed and I do like the place - just need to improve the service, they would make more money!

I agree with others that staff are bored (there are too many of them for small restaurant). They actually need more staff helping in the kitchen as you are kept waiting longer than average. We enjoyed our food but my prawn salad was served in a very odd metal plate where there was not enough room to mix things around. The lighting is too bright and you feel you are being watched by the waiters who had hardly anything to do. They were pleasant though and the service was good. It is only when they stand by the bar and then they hear the bell for service and one of them roles their eyes and goes and gets the food. This place has potential but the atmosphere and staff need an overhaul.

I don't think I've ever felt as frustrated in a restaurant as I did today. Beware of the ladies that work here, especially Beata, who will ruin your experience by ensuring that you don't feel welcome, or by providing the confidence that they've actually asked the kitchen for a breakfast menu item a few minutes before, at and then 4 minutes after the cutoff time. Food OK. The server staff clearly made a great effort and were the only remnant of dignity in this otherwise atrociously executed experience. Never again.

We have frequented this place since it opened. We like the trendy American diner style cuisine - who doesnt love a crab cake or a lobster roll. Sadly the staff mope around like one half the door is already shut. Truly feels like unless some energy and effort is put into this place its not going to last. We like the food but the last few times even the food has lack. It would be a great venue to get on Deliveroo?

My family have passed by many times on our way to the High St and always wanted to try. I had by chance today with a work colleague and was less than impressed!!! The staff were disinterested, not friendly and had minimal knowledge of the menu......they were almost offended when I asked a question about one of the dishes. The food was ok, but expensive for what it is! In summary my family will continue to walk pass, but we won't eat there as I'd prefer to spend my hard earned money elsewhere in Putney!

For my husbands birthday we went to Urban Diner on putney - group of 7. From the door the atmosphere was so friendly and welcome. When the staff find out that is birthday dinner lovely girl organised small gift: bottle of beer with the candle and cocktail umbrella which one gives for our party so much fun :). our cocktails been served very quick -my watermelon martini was delicious!!! When we made the order for food as we didn't want any starters our waitress told to us that it is going to be around 20 min waiting time for our meal and she suggested to take plate of nachos to share before the main course will be ready what was a good choice. For main my husband ordered ribs and I Grand Canyon burger on the end we couldn't decide which dish was better as both of them been fabulous. My first visit at this restaurant I will remember as a great experience and I will definitely come back there soon. I would like to say special thank you for all staff your professional service and the atmosphere which one you created are superb

Walking in for brunch, we were confronted with six pairs of (staff)eyes staring at every move we made. It took the waiter three attempts to get the right smoothie we ordered (simply one from the menu, so shouldn't be too difficult), and another three to get a coffee. No soap in any of the toilets, and after asking for soap I was presented with toilet paper. When I again explained I wanted soap, the member of staff simply pointed at the soap dispenser (it was not working- this is the reason I asked for soap!). After it became clear there was not going to be soap, I walked back into the diner to be greeted again by six pairs of staring eyes. When paying the bill we had to do the math and explain to the waiter how much sum X divided by 4 was per person. All added up we were quite irritated, and definitely will not go back here again. My suggestion for this place is to improve their service and behaviour of staff. Also, soap might be nice.

When my friend booked this restaurant the first thing I did was check trip advisor and once I read the reviews I was not looking forward to going. But I have to say the meal we had was excellent. We got a selection of starters to share and then my friends had burgers whilst I had the ribs. There was so much food that I struggled to eat it all and ended up trying to give my ribs away. I would definitely go back and look forward to trying other things on the menu.

Having not been able to get a table for five as a walk in the evening before, be booked here for lunch the following day and arrived to find the place at about 40% capacity. Having three smallies, we were anxious to keep things moving and confined ourselves to mains and drinks. Unfortunately it took 40 minutes for food to appear as we looked at other tables coming and going. A single request on when we might expect food was politely answered with "they're just plating up now" (burgers, fried chicken strips, and a hot dog).It was tasty, well presented, ...but cold.My final issue, ...and I have seen this with other London resturants, ...what's the story with automatically adding an "optional" 12% tip to the bill. Just build it into the price, or thrust the customer to be appreciative enough to add it themselves.

The first time I visited here back in October, I enjoyed the steak and egg brunch meal. It was great. Easily 5 stars. However, a later visit proved me wrong. I thought it was a 'hidden gem' but I am convinced the chef changed. I ordered the same meal but it was cold (ish) meat. The hollandaise sauce was cold on another's dish. However, the staff were once again extremely helpful and friendly. I would recommend to give it a go, but I doubt I'll be back.

Went to the Urban Diner originally for brunch and had a yummy omelet. I've since been back for lunch as well as appetizers and the food is always delicious! As an American in London, good BBQ is hard to find and I'm pleased to say that the Urban Diner knows how to do BBQ chicken and pulled pork! You also can't go wrong with a place that offers an alcoholic milkshake!

For hearty american food like ribs, burgers and BBQ you expect hearty american portions, unfortunately this is not the case. There were only 5 ribs on the rack I got with very little meat and they came without chips/side (not something the waitress mentioned when I ordered). Although the food it self was not bad I left hungry and therefore won't be going back. If you want a good burger go to Byron or GBK which are nearby, if you want american BBQ then Bodeans in Fullham is nicer and better value.

We saw a lot of people inside one evening so when we were looking for a place for late lunch one Sunday, we decided to come in. Food was ok - a bit hit and miss. Mozzarella sticks were ok, but salsa tasted like ketchup. Meatballs were nice, but a classic cheese burger was quite awful. Whole meal costed wayyy to much (over £40) so we won't be coming back soon.

Came in on whim but wish I hadn't. The service was decent but it was a Tuesday evening.Had the Calamari to start which was ok, nothing to write home about. The burger looked like it was going to be really nice but it broke up with the first bite. It was quite bland and the amount of juice that ran out could fill a shot glass. The place smacked on a 'discretionary' 12 ½ service charge so a diet coke, calamari, burger and chips with service charge cost just under £25. Expensive for what you get...

I loved the girl who served us, really lovely and friendly and easily the best thing about the place. Portion sizes were good. Decor was alright in parts. The food didn't excite me at all, we had some starters and I ended up having a burger for main. Everything was alright but nothing was amazing and although I wouldn't avoid the place, I wouldn't rush back either. I think there are much better places that do similar food around.

Been here twice in the last couple of weeks and on both occasions left feeling well fed and well served. First time I had the steak and eggs for brunch - one of the best steaks I have had and one I am sure to order again. The second time I shared with a couple of friends the sharing platter of ribs, chicken, pulled pork and corn...wow that is a lot of meat and all very good (some of the ribs a little over cooked but in the main very good). On both occasions I have taken my six year old son who loves the hot dogs & chips - just a half on the kids menu but is enough.Worth booking and asking for a booth as these are nice for smaller groups.

Having eaten here before, we expected another good meal but were surprised by the poor food. I know that Hollandaise sauce should be served just above room temperature, but not cold and the pulled pork was in a sauce that was so sweet and sickly it was almost inedible. The only good things were that the service was very good and the staff helpful.

I have heard good things about Urban diner so we decided to visit this place with friends for Sunday brunch. They kept a lot of the old Moomba menu but changed the name and increased the price ie. Full breakfast is now the "Full Urban" but it's was nothing special. The service was even more disappointing when they had so many wait staff standing around doing nothing (joking around) they didn't even help open the door when they saw me pushing a buggy and one waitresses even serve hot coffee above my 10mths old babies head. Utterly disappointed.

Clearly very popular for brunch and its refreshing to find somewhere that opens early on Sundays (9am!). The staff are very friendly and attentive and the decor is consistent with a Texan/ranch theme though this is increasingly common in London. The coffee was weak but the food very good.

I ate there last night, and had the sliders and mozzarella sticks. The service was great and the food cooked well- the mozzarella sticks were crisp and they have a tendency to be soggy. I ate here with my mother, for a birthday lunch. We ordered several small dishes including the voodoo wings, the sliders and the and cheese, all three were very poor. We tried Urban Diner for brunch on Sunday as we had been turned away from Bills round the corner for lack of a reservation (?).When I first arrived I was pretty impressed and it got better when I saw the all American comfort food menu. Very good breakfast/brunch selection including pancakes and various eggs bene (including a pulled pork one with hash browns which was really fantastic). The main issue we had was with the staff, inattentive, uninterested and borderline rude (especially the manager). Don’t get me wrong, the food was GREAT but the experience really was not up to scratch – even putting aside that our order was forgotten for 40 minutes. Also the coffee was seriously bad and not up to current London standards. When we asked to pay the bill without the service charge we weren't asked if everything had been ok. It was just done. To summarize, great food but bad service and staff. A real shame but hopefully easy to fix!

Happened to be shopping in Putney and as the menu looked good, thought we'd give it a whirl. Decor good, clean and welcoming, booths and tables. Playing proper Delta blues music also set the scene for the atmosphere they obviously aim for. Seated straight away despite being 1pm on a Saturday. Staff friendly and welcoming. Extensive menu and it all sounded excellent. Finally decided on a chilli cheese burger which was superb...good size, freshly cooked, not overdone, and the chilli was nicely spicy. Side order of Mac n Cheese was just the business. Burgers don't come with fries though.£32 for two....not cheap for a quick lunch but definitely worth it. Will be going back to try more of the menu.

When I asked for extra coffee she was reluctant to change it as she stated that is the way the coffee is prepared. When the eggs arrived they were over cooked and the bacon was cold. When I complained to the manager her reply was it is her first week. Would not go back. It's a pity as the decor is really nice

As an American living in London for the past 10 years I have become quite judgmental over British restaurants attempting to serve American cuisine. Not only has Urban Diner been the only restaurant that has actually succeeded in its efforts, it has everything that you would hope for in a good American restaurant. From double cocktails (for only 7 pounds!) and American beers to chicken wings (with a good blue cheese sauce), pulled pork, key lime pie and root beer floats, the menu is full of great flavours that you cannot otherwise find outside the States. Sitting in the restaurant makes you feel like you are actually in New York and the owner is personable and very welcoming. This is without a doubt the best American restaurant in London.

Turned up at 19:45. Started looking through the menu but the 5g is terrible so tried to connect to their WiFi (as it’s an app-based menu to order). Switching between 5g and WiFi, I finally put an order together and sent it off - only for the website to reject my order. It was 20:01. At NO point is it clear they stop taking orders from 20:00. I asked a server, whose attitude was basically like “you should have known our orders stop at 8pm on a Sunday”. I’m writing this as I watch my friend drink his beer and eat his food.

So we got seated quite quickly which was good but it was all downhill from there. It took 30 minutes for someone to come over and take our order, when she did she said we better get the whole order in as soon as possible as the kitchen was piling up with Deliveroo orders; why on earth they weren’t prioritising seated customers I’ll never know. When we finally got our food which took an age they got the order wrong. We had to remind them half way through our burgers that we were missing the wings, another 20 minutes later they still hadn’t arrived. We asked to cancel the order of wings as it was just getting ridiculous and it felt like it was an inconvenience to them and no apology was given. If this business is going to survive you need better staff
