Although the food was amazing it’s more the FOH staff i have the issue with unfortunately. Stood a good 5/10mins before anyone noticed us and then to see then stood at the bar? The servers all looked about 14 and didn't look they knew what they were doing? Rushing around, jumping table to table with orders, i’m surprised the kitchen could keep up! They didn't know which beers/ales/ lagers they were selling. Staff standing around bar area chatting in a group not very clear who were the managers out of the older staff as they all looked a bit lost and flustered to honest! Oh and tall muscular bald guy stomping almost throwing his weight around looking very unapproachable serving the meals was something else, maybe he was the manager he looked stressed. Struggled to get their attention for bill but eventually got it and they had the cheek to put a service charge on! I don't mind leaving a tip but i decide how much and when deserved, based on the food alone 100% deserved the amount they were asking but the service is the deal breaker, i paid it purely for the chefs they outshone the front and we didn’t even see them

I wish we could rate this as 5/5 given how nice the staff were. But the pub offers poor food and atmosphere, despite its high profile. It has a brewery, and yet on the evening that we just wished to drink their beer, we were only allowed to sit outside, and on a chilly evening. We ate in the pub twice, and had some meals that were fairly nice (there were 5 in our party), but most didn’t come up to scratch. As we encountered overseas tourists walking a leg of Hadrian’s Wall, and heading for Twice Brewed for the night, I winced at the thought of the English fare they would encounter. Disappointing, almost an exploitation of the captive audience. Other pubs in prime locations do better.

We (4 couples) stayed here two nights while hiking Hadrian's Wall Path (booked by Hillwalk Tours). The staff was very accommodating allowing us to use their laundry facilities. We enjoyed two breakfasts and dinners here and all were excellent. They also prepared bag lunches for our walk. Their brewery was very good. A great stop for our rest day on our walk and very close to Vindolanda Roman Fort.

Stayed here for a night as part of the star gazing event (excellent). The rooms are very comfortable, with a warm and welcoming appearance. Lovely bathroom products and excellent shortbread! The food in the restaurant was absolutely fantastic; I had their famous pie and it was honestly the best pie I have ever eaten. Clearly home made and utterly delicious; the beef was so tender, perfect pastry and amazing gravy. I had with skinny fries, which again were absolutely perfect. Faultless. The desserts were utterly divine too. Service was excellent - the staff were very friendly and were clearly working their socks off in a full restaurant, hats off to them. Had an excellent full breakfast the following morning; there was also fruit, yoghurt, pastries, cereal and toast on offer. Once again, wonderful staff who were very friendly, such a warm Northumbrian welcome. I wouldn’t hesitate staying here again; an excellent location and wonderful, friendly service; what’s not to love.

What a warm welcome on a wet day. We popped in with our dogs after a walk on a rain swept afternoon for late lunch. We received a very warm welcome from the staff, who throughout our visit were thoughtful and friendly. We ordered Cumberland sausage with mash and a trio of pork for mains. Both dishes were beautiful and skillfully made. Desert was just as special, their divine pecan pie with ice-cream was superb. What a fantastic place, the food, wonderful staff and service, what more needs said.

We stayed here with our dog for 3 nights to do a little hiking in the area. We were greeted very warmly at check-in and small questions were answered promptly and nicely. The rooms are well equipped for a B&B and are also reasonably large. We had a small problem with the TV, which was resolved very quickly on our first evening out with the dog. 👍 The breakfast and dinner at the B&B is excellent. The price for the room and the food is reasonable. Thank you for your hospitality during our visit.

We’ve been here before quite a few years ago, it was pretty rough and ready then, not so now! Lovely food in a smart restaurant, great beers from their own brewery. Not sure about the atmosphere now, big television kills conversation, staff putting chairs upside down on tables at 10.20pm when the website says 11pm closing not very good.

Appalling attitude and lack of customer service! We walked for several hours along Hadrian's wall in the rain and popped in here to escape the rain, hoping for some food and a drink. It was around 1pm on a Sunday so we knew it might be busy. When we got there we were told they were fully booked. We noticed only 4 or 5 tables taken and dozens empty. We were told we could have a drink 'outside' but they wouldn't serve food. We asked several members of staff, including the assistant manager if we could just sit inside at an empty table until the bookings arrived but were told quite sternly NO. We had two drinks, so were there for about an hour and a half. When we walked back through the bar we found it was as empty as when we first arrived. When we asked again, we were told they had over 100 people in the restaurant. We popped into the shop to buy some of their locally brewed beer. You can see into the restaurant from there. We noticed about 20 people. Such a shame. Its the only pub around and a perfect spot for visitors to the wall, especially Sycamore Gap but don't waste your time and money. They don't deserve your custom. We left still wet, hungry and very disappointed.

We stayed one night on our way West on Hadrian's Wall. The rooms were very small but adequate and served us well. The staff was super friendly and seemed genuinely interested in our experience. Breakfast was fast, delicious, and suited our needs for the hiking very well. The 5th review star is withheld because we had a 1+ hour wait for dinner and seemed abandoned throughout. The dining room and/or kitchen seemed understaffed. After 20 minutes, we decided to go and get our own drink at the bar, even as dining staff stood around and chatted (surely kitchen staff don't go fetch beers?) We were footsore and tired, so perhaps our patience was limited. So... visit the bar and get our own drink and take it to the table.

Table booked for 8pm - ordered American Burger and the trio of pork, 2 glasses of red. If you wanted veg with the pork that was an additional £4.95 Given no choice on size of wine required- they were large. Food not served until 8.50 pm, but it was very welcome and tasty when it arrived. Shocked upon paying to discover the wine was £9 per glass and a service charge of 10% automatically added to the bill. Sad no apology forthcoming for the delay in service - only told they had a big party in the room next door - so that supposedly explained it all.

I'm local to this place. Been going here for years as a treat; even before it had all the new interior, and way before the new brewery bit was added. This used to be a nice wee local establishment. Over the years, it's become more and more pretentious. I mean PRETENTIOUS. It is now a restaurant-hotel catering to what can only be described as the newly arrived rich and gullible in the area. Put it this way: I've taken a picture of every meal I've ever had there, and the portions have indeed become smaller and smaller. The quality used to be incredible too, but now it all tastes perfectly average. Those in my party also share the same opinions. We are only being honest about our experiences both past and present, and none of us are impressed. As such, this is not a pub for locals at all anymore. This is something akin to 'a quaint northern countryside pub with fine-dining experience.' If that's your thing, you'll love this place! If what you want is a decent pub with decent fresh local grub, this isn't your environment. Personally, our latest visit was the last from all of us. Thank you to all of the staff and management who used to make Twice Brewed Inn what it was: a place for everyone. Oh, and that "service tax" isn't a tax at all, its a covert, cheeky AF tipping system. We're actually really angry about that the very most. Don't sneak a tip into your customers' bill and call it a "tax". That's disgusting. We don't do that here.

Iconic isolated Inn just off Hadrians Wall. Serve a good selection of home brewed ales that are well kept. Food was nice, nothing outstanding but did the job after a hard day's walking. Nice atmosphere in the bar, very relaxing and warm. Just make sure that you bring a torch if stopping at the nearby youth hostel as it gets very dark on the walk back.

Shocking meal. The roast beef was tough as old boots. Husband had the Roast Beef sandwich which was impossible to eat. The bun was crumbly and had a very unpleasant taste, the beef was so tough he could not cut it, tear it or chew through it. Veggies in the party happy with their veg loaf but very small portions. An expensive disappointment for a family get together. Desserts saved the meal from being a total disaster but the portion sizes varied so much it was ridiculous . One of us had large portion of sticky toffee pudding, 2 others were less than half the size. Service was slow and intermittent. So disappointed.

Such a warm and friendly place and … the food!! Superb portions and the BEST steak pie I’ve ever had!! I might even travel hundreds of miles to go back for that pie; it was that good! I was stranded here for hours waiting for my family out on a walk and I couldn’t have been happier.

Great beer, and even though busy we were seated in a relatively quiet area able to chat easily.

A fantastic night at Twice Brewed Stargazing event with Neill Sanders and Thea Willis. A clear night and loads of time using the telescopes and lots of information on the stars and galaxies.. the planetarium was fantastic, well worth a visit.. Twice Brewed also do a graze and gaze.. book in advance, the events fill up quickly.
