Went for a Stargazing weekend. Positives: excellent food and accommodation. Location is ideal for walking Hadrian's wall/ visiting Sycamore Gap. Brilliant little microbrewery and tap room. Bar staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Negatives: very awkward interaction with one restaurant waitress on the first evening. Seen to the table but only 3 menus for 4 of us. She said she would get one but didn't. My wife went up to get it after some time only for the waitress to say " I can get that for you"! A bit late. Followed by no-one coming to take a drink or food order for over 20 minutes so we had to attract her attention. She did not apologise for the delay butclaimed to have been busy. We had watched her setting up tables for breakfast instead yet this was around 7.40 pm. When challenged on this she became aggressive rather than apologetic. She took the order but when asked for a jug of water, she ignored the request and stormed off. (the water did arrive, she just failed to acknowledge the request. This put our group at unease as we had 2 more breakfast and 1 dinner service to go! This may seem petty but it reaput a dampener on the weekend. Her customer service skills were non existent. All the other servers were polite, frank attentive. The bar seems to discourage later evening drinks as all the chairs/stools get put up on the tables as people leave, well before last orders. After coming in from the stargazing event around 10pm on a Sunday night, we weren't even sure that the bar was open. It was and the team were friendly but it just wasn't a welcoming environment to see the place ready for hoovering! Finally, the stargazing event was badly organised. There was no information at check in. We got most info from one of the waitresses and even then the directions weren't clear. We have been to an event down south before which had better presented information. The actual set up is very good with a great guest speaker. Unfortunately for us, rain and cloud stopped us from using the telescopes outside. The planetarium was an excellent facility. It is a shame that these issues affected what promised to be a great visit to a lovely pub.

Very disappointing. Came here during Covid and was really looking forward to a return visit. Food was distinctly average and nowhere near in line with the price charged. At nearly £18 for some chewy pasta with squares of squash and cold feta, it felt like a total rip off. Felt telling that the staff never enquired if everything was alright for us. And to top it off we waited ages to pay the bill - being told “I’m serving” when we eventually managed to get someone’s attention. I don’t know that they’d have noticed if we’d just got up and left.

We went for dinner and breakfast the following morning as we were staying at a local campsite. Dinner was LUSH! Really tasty, well presented with a great choice of their own brewed beer. The service team were really friendly. I'd recommend booking ahead as it was really busy. Breakfast was disappointing though, which was such a shame. Tiny portions of everything in the full english breakfast, plus it had all been clearly sitting around for a bit under heat lamps as the bacon and sausage in particular was really hard and chewy. Didn't set us up well for a day on the wall I'm afraid, but we cycled on with the memory of our great dinner the night before and got a pastie for elevenses.

Trading on location, service was okay but not great, the food was good but all the menu options came without a proper portion of veg so had to add a side (nearly £5) and the beer I tried was okay. I had the trio of pork which was good with a side of seasonal veg with a pint of IPA which came to £42. Not exactly pub prices! Didn’t help that there were families with rowdy kids which certainly didn’t add to the ambience. The seating was basic & suited a cafe rather than a bar or upmarket restaurant. Have been wanting to visit this place for years. Disappointing and won’t return. Left feeling pretty ripped off tbh.

Although the food was amazing it’s more the FOH staff i have the issue with unfortunately. Stood a good 5/10mins before anyone noticed us and then to see then stood at the bar? The servers all looked about 14 and didn't look they knew what they were doing? Rushing around, jumping table to table with orders, i’m surprised the kitchen could keep up! They didn't know which beers/ales/ lagers they were selling. Staff standing around bar area chatting in a group not very clear who were the managers out of the older staff as they all looked a bit lost and flustered to honest! Oh and tall muscular bald guy stomping almost throwing his weight around looking very unapproachable serving the meals was something else, maybe he was the manager he looked stressed. Struggled to get their attention for bill but eventually got it and they had the cheek to put a service charge on! I don't mind leaving a tip but i decide how much and when deserved, based on the food alone 100% deserved the amount they were asking but the service is the deal breaker, i paid it purely for the chefs they outshone the front and we didn’t even see them

Bit disappointed here. Had heard a lot about this place and it's "famous" Steak and Ale pies. Unfortunately this was the most disappointing pie of our Hadrian's Wall tour. (With 3 dinners all being steak and ale pie) Pastry was overcooked/burnt, meat quantity sub-par and gravy just "average" not really worth the hype. Service was less than expected and required prompting for service (even though we were at a booked dinner table) little interaction with staff when looking for recommendations for beers etc. Wouldn't recommend.

I wish we could rate this as 5/5 given how nice the staff were. But the pub offers poor food and atmosphere, despite its high profile. It has a brewery, and yet on the evening that we just wished to drink their beer, we were only allowed to sit outside, and on a chilly evening. We ate in the pub twice, and had some meals that were fairly nice (there were 5 in our party), but most didn’t come up to scratch. As we encountered overseas tourists walking a leg of Hadrian’s Wall, and heading for Twice Brewed for the night, I winced at the thought of the English fare they would encounter. Disappointing, almost an exploitation of the captive audience. Other pubs in prime locations do better.

Stayed here for a night as part of the star gazing event (excellent). The rooms are very comfortable, with a warm and welcoming appearance. Lovely bathroom products and excellent shortbread! The food in the restaurant was absolutely fantastic; I had their famous pie and it was honestly the best pie I have ever eaten. Clearly home made and utterly delicious; the beef was so tender, perfect pastry and amazing gravy. I had with skinny fries, which again were absolutely perfect. Faultless. The desserts were utterly divine too. Service was excellent - the staff were very friendly and were clearly working their socks off in a full restaurant, hats off to them. Had an excellent full breakfast the following morning; there was also fruit, yoghurt, pastries, cereal and toast on offer. Once again, wonderful staff who were very friendly, such a warm Northumbrian welcome. I wouldn’t hesitate staying here again; an excellent location and wonderful, friendly service; what’s not to love.

Firstly- who picks the music? A very weird and obtrusive 80s playlist completely out of step with the environment. The food - your Cumberland sausage is very bland and tasteless not matching the description. Seemed like a cheap catering company job not hand-made. No seasoning and only just cooked enough with no charring or flavour to the outside. This was my second choice as you only had one steak left at 6.30pm on a Saturday. The bhaji burger was overcooked. We sent the cheesecake back as it had blue spots which looked like mould which the chef denied but it put my wife off and neither of the portions were finished (just swap it regardless of the chef's ego). The steak was ordered medium rare and came out medium well. I can do way better with a trip to Aldi and cooking at home. The environment itself was so untidy. Junk electricals just dumped on the shelf and the floor. An antler decoration looked like it had come off the wall and just dumped on top of a high chair. Boxes of deliveries and packs of salt lying around. Cardboard box of polystyrene behind one of our seats belonged in the bin. You must have a store room somewhere and it would take less than 5 minutes to tidy these out of your front-of-house before service. Sloppy. The table (between the toilets) was wobbly and needs fixing or chucking out. The waiters were v slow to come back to check or clear the table (we had to ask). You can do much better than this. We're local (Tow House) and dont often go out Saturday night but we'll be going into Hexham or Haltwhistle to try many other places before we ever come back to you for an evening meal. Shame as the Sunday roast we had a few weeks back was pretty good. We had friends staying with us from down south and built your place up as a meal to look forward to and they were really disappointed. I get it you may be busy and short of staff but if you can't do the basics and make an experience which is superior to eating and drinking at home, people won't come back.

Appalling attitude and lack of customer service! We walked for several hours along Hadrian's wall in the rain and popped in here to escape the rain, hoping for some food and a drink. It was around 1pm on a Sunday so we knew it might be busy. When we got there we were told they were fully booked. We noticed only 4 or 5 tables taken and dozens empty. We were told we could have a drink 'outside' but they wouldn't serve food. We asked several members of staff, including the assistant manager if we could just sit inside at an empty table until the bookings arrived but were told quite sternly NO. We had two drinks, so were there for about an hour and a half. When we walked back through the bar we found it was as empty as when we first arrived. When we asked again, we were told they had over 100 people in the restaurant. We popped into the shop to buy some of their locally brewed beer. You can see into the restaurant from there. We noticed about 20 people. Such a shame. Its the only pub around and a perfect spot for visitors to the wall, especially Sycamore Gap but don't waste your time and money. They don't deserve your custom. We left still wet, hungry and very disappointed.

Visited after walking from Steel Rigg over to Sycamore Gap (which was very emotional to see with the tree not there). After visiting Sycamore Gap we carried on to Crag Loch and walked on to visit this wonderful establishment. There were quite a lot in our group all ordering different drinks and meals and all came out really quickly. The food was lovely and really generous portions. Staff we all friendly and very professional. The shop on site sells all the attached brewery's produce and so we have taken a couple of souvenirs home. Would highly recommend anyone in the area visit, you won't be disappointed!!

Great brewery, great ale, lovely food, VERY busy (but dealt with it amazingly), feels somewhat less personable service given the busy-ness for food, but worked well. Excellent (proper) pies too!

We stayed one night on our way West on Hadrian's Wall. The rooms were very small but adequate and served us well. The staff was super friendly and seemed genuinely interested in our experience. Breakfast was fast, delicious, and suited our needs for the hiking very well. The 5th review star is withheld because we had a 1+ hour wait for dinner and seemed abandoned throughout. The dining room and/or kitchen seemed understaffed. After 20 minutes, we decided to go and get our own drink at the bar, even as dining staff stood around and chatted (surely kitchen staff don't go fetch beers?) We were footsore and tired, so perhaps our patience was limited. So... visit the bar and get our own drink and take it to the table.

I came to Twice Brewed already fallen in love with cask ales. I had the Sycamore Gap pale ale. It was the PERFECT beer! Being 66, I've had many beers in my day. And my search for the perfect beer ended at Twice Brewed. (I also had a burger, which was excellent, and the service is awesome!) Oh may the day come when I can return to Twice Brewed and taste perfection...again.

A wonderful old pub and brewery on Hadrians Wall, just opposite the now sadly demised Sycamore Gap. This is a haven for trekkers, locals, passers by, and whoever likes old fashioned quality with upgraded facilities. Great range of beers, accommodation apparently and also true pub food. Highly recommended.

Table booked for 8pm - ordered American Burger and the trio of pork, 2 glasses of red. If you wanted veg with the pork that was an additional £4.95 Given no choice on size of wine required- they were large. Food not served until 8.50 pm, but it was very welcome and tasty when it arrived. Shocked upon paying to discover the wine was £9 per glass and a service charge of 10% automatically added to the bill. Sad no apology forthcoming for the delay in service - only told they had a big party in the room next door - so that supposedly explained it all.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff and an amazing selection of their own beers on tap and in the shop. Their homemade Steak and Ale pie was delicious. Dog Friendly

Guy brought the food without any cutlery, a little arrogant with it, we had to walk back up to get it, no offer or apology, not great

Always a great selection of real ales, often stuck for choice after sampling a few. Always a warm welcome, it's always comfortable and always look forward to grabbing a drink or two after a day climbing on Peel Crag. Perfect way to finish the day.

Great pub and good outside area, too. Management MUST spend time training and developing young workers. Our young waitress was very nice but lost work wise. Needs an experienced person near her to guide and support. Give her the confidence to develop. We need locals in the workplace!!! Cheers

Friendly pub next to the beach. Good selection of beers including their own . I think their food offering is more snacks than main meal...so it's really about the beer.. TT likes the place.
