A fantastic location for this award winning pub, there was a warm welcome and kids activity pack when we arrived which our 8 year old loved. We were seated next to a fire (which was incredibly welcome as it was -5 outside). Someone came and took our drinks order and we were served them in under 10 minutes. Our food order was taken and we were served within 25 minutes, the pub was approximately half full and this was around 1.30pm. My daughter spilled her lemonade but this was dealt with kindly by the staff and her lemonade was replaced without extra charge which was great! Our thanks to Holly who engaged with out little one well. Food quality was great for us, plenty of vegetarian/vegan options and everything was clearly labelled. Great choice of beer but the highest of recommendations to their Juno beer which we went and bought some to bring home with us from their shop! Overall 5 stars.

Booked a table for dinner while staying at the yha. Booking was handled effectively and the service was good. Asked the waitress what the signature dish was and she recommended the pie. I Enjoyed the sycamore gap beer but the steak and ale pie wasn’t outstanding. Too much soggy pastry and a huge pile of chips. The gravy was a bit watery but thankfully there was a nice mix of veg too. So in summary. Great that there’s a pub here doing food. But it’s just average food.

A really wonderful place - super friendly, modest rooms but very comfortable, well located and the staff are so attentive. Beer and gin also made onsite, which is always welcome. Looks like this will be my last review of 2024, the venue, The Twice Brewed Inn up on Hadrian’s Wall just off the Military Road or the B6318 to some? Out with the lady friend and her dogs up on Hadrian’s Wall trying to explain to her about my anger over the demise of the Sycamore Gap tree in 2023 as we made to our table for two booked for Sunday lunch at The Twice Brewed Inn. Special shout out to Judith who served/dealt with us, great service, I think she’d sussed out I was the type to do a food review so quickly laughed along with my incredibly crap and unfunny banter. The Twice Brewed Inn was already very busy on arrival, we were shown to quite a nice cosy little table at the top end of the dining area close to the toilets, this can be a bonus in some ways but also a hindrance in others, thankfully we were surrounded by people who clearly had strong bowels and bladders so passing traffic was pretty minimal. Ambiance good, decor fine, people chattering, a baby crying, the odd dog occasionally barking and a distinct lack of music, almost sheer bliss but clearly a tourist hotspot. Service polite and efficient, I ordered in a couple of pints of alcohol free beer along with our food orders, starters being the cheese soufflé, a large lamb dinner for the lady and me being me requested a large three meats dinner with beef, lamb and chicken. Food came within good time, the cheese soufflé starters were actually very good, probably the highlight of what I had there. I think opting for the soufflés was definitely a good choice as other starters I clocked arriving on the other tables didn’t look as interesting or impressive. Our main courses followed up within good time of finishing our starters, they’re certainly not shy of a bit of gravy on the plate at The Twice Brewed Inn that’s for sure, I’m delighted to say my fellow diner thoroughly enjoyed her dinner. Don’t get me wrong I think the food was good after self-applying some black pepper to the very plain beef, lamb and chicken and another roast potato on the plate certainly wouldn’t have hurt matters but everything else, it was ok, spot on. Desserts, we both opted for some rum and raisin ice-cream, my three scoops to her one but sadly these were tiny in my book, I must have got the scoops with no rum flavouring too? Coffee was nice but no biscuit, not even a cheap and nasty Lotus speculoos? Tut tut tut… Ok, I’m happy enough to recommend The Twice Brewed Inn, it was a nice Sunday out, the food ok, the venue busy and pleasant.

TL:DR Overpriced for what it is but given its location it's not surprising. There was an issue with the pay machine for parking being out of order that we raised with staff which was surprising to them saying "it has been fine all day". We were told it should be fine but normally we would need to pay which wasn't very reassuring we wouldn't get a ticket and no one went out to check. The food was nice and arrived quickly but was expensive for what it was and a service charge added on that we were unaware of, which is unusual for a table of two in a pub, the service was fine.

Awful food, poor service but they brew good beer. Booked for lunch ordered then waited an hour. There was a sudden flurry of orders brought out but staff not aware that all accompaniment’s missing (chips, veg etc) Having pointed this out waited another 10minutes while those were obviously cooked and served after mains eaten. Low quality food poorly made. Whole raw garlic cloves in a very limp salad? Their IPA provide a liquid lunch for the non drivers.

I cannot rate this place highly enough for their amazing hospitality. My mother and I turned up here one evening, 15 minutes before their closing time, we were soaking wet and covered in mud as we had just come off the Hadrians wall path and it had been raining. We were greeted instantly by a very pleasant young lady (name may have been Jess but don’t fully remember as it was a few months back) who politely explained it was close to closing time but then proceeded to grab us a couple of menus and inform the kitchen team that that we wanted to order. We were most grateful. We had to quickly decide what to order but then the food came quickly and it was great quality. They also managed to find us a room to stay in at short notice. They really saved our bacon that day. Excellent. Thank you. The fact that I’m posting this a little while should reflect how much we appreciated this!

I am from Canada and our group stayed here for 4 nights. It had the most comfortable, homey feeling. I love the way I could come downstairs in the morning to the friendly faces of the staff in the dining room. They were genuinely happy to see us and went over and above the call of duty. I really got the feeling that it’s a positive place to work. The staff seemed genuinely upbeat and happy to be working with one another. The food was incredible too! An absolutely stunning pub a short walk from Hadrians Wall and Sycamore Gap. The food was delicious, well priced and very good portions. The staff were friendly and helpful, there was a log fire burning in the wood burner (just what you want after a cold walk along the wall) and the whole place is dog friendly. We stopped to grab a takeaway coffee for our walk and then headed for lunch after with a quick stop at the micro brewery for good measure (the spiced rum is divine!) It's worth being aware the car park is a cash only pay and display but it's reasonable enough (£1 per hour or £5 for the whole day) I just didn't have cash, luckily my partner did. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.

Stayed overnight so that we could take part in the stargazing event. Made to feel very welcome when we arrived and quickly booked in. The rooms are still wonderfully quirky but have been refurbished to a high standard since we last stayed. A table had already been reserved for us for the evening meal. There was a great selection of dishes to choose from and the food was excellent. (Both evening meal and the breakfast!) The stargazing was informative and lively. The evening was matched to the weather, we were taken outside when the skies cleared and the talk continued later. We had a telescope just for the two of us so we had plenty of time to view the skies. Wil was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable and we were directed to so many exciting stars, planets and galaxies. He even helped us take photographs through the telescope lenses. A great evening, we'll definitely be going back again!

Went for a Stargazing weekend. Positives: excellent food and accommodation. Location is ideal for walking Hadrian's wall/ visiting Sycamore Gap. Brilliant little microbrewery and tap room. Bar staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Negatives: very awkward interaction with one restaurant waitress on the first evening. Seen to the table but only 3 menus for 4 of us. She said she would get one but didn't. My wife went up to get it after some time only for the waitress to say " I can get that for you"! A bit late. Followed by no-one coming to take a drink or food order for over 20 minutes so we had to attract her attention. She did not apologise for the delay butclaimed to have been busy. We had watched her setting up tables for breakfast instead yet this was around 7.40 pm. When challenged on this she became aggressive rather than apologetic. She took the order but when asked for a jug of water, she ignored the request and stormed off. (the water did arrive, she just failed to acknowledge the request. This put our group at unease as we had 2 more breakfast and 1 dinner service to go! This may seem petty but it reaput a dampener on the weekend. Her customer service skills were non existent. All the other servers were polite, frank attentive. The bar seems to discourage later evening drinks as all the chairs/stools get put up on the tables as people leave, well before last orders. After coming in from the stargazing event around 10pm on a Sunday night, we weren't even sure that the bar was open. It was and the team were friendly but it just wasn't a welcoming environment to see the place ready for hoovering! Finally, the stargazing event was badly organised. There was no information at check in. We got most info from one of the waitresses and even then the directions weren't clear. We have been to an event down south before which had better presented information. The actual set up is very good with a great guest speaker. Unfortunately for us, rain and cloud stopped us from using the telescopes outside. The planetarium was an excellent facility. It is a shame that these issues affected what promised to be a great visit to a lovely pub.

Very disappointing. Came here during Covid and was really looking forward to a return visit. Food was distinctly average and nowhere near in line with the price charged. At nearly £18 for some chewy pasta with squares of squash and cold feta, it felt like a total rip off. Felt telling that the staff never enquired if everything was alright for us. And to top it off we waited ages to pay the bill - being told “I’m serving” when we eventually managed to get someone’s attention. I don’t know that they’d have noticed if we’d just got up and left.

Trading on location, service was okay but not great, the food was good but all the menu options came without a proper portion of veg so had to add a side (nearly £5) and the beer I tried was okay. I had the trio of pork which was good with a side of seasonal veg with a pint of IPA which came to £42. Not exactly pub prices! Didn’t help that there were families with rowdy kids which certainly didn’t add to the ambience. The seating was basic & suited a cafe rather than a bar or upmarket restaurant. Have been wanting to visit this place for years. Disappointing and won’t return. Left feeling pretty ripped off tbh.

The service team were really friendly. I'd recommend booking ahead as it was really busy. Breakfast was disappointing though, which was such a shame. Tiny portions of everything in the full english breakfast, plus it had all been clearly sitting around for a bit under heat lamps as the bacon and sausage in particular was really hard and chewy. Didn't set us up well for a day on the wall I'm afraid, but we cycled on with the memory of our great dinner the night before and got a pastie for elevenses.

Although the food was amazing it’s more the FOH staff i have the issue with unfortunately. Stood a good 5/10mins before anyone noticed us and then to see then stood at the bar? The servers all looked about 14 and didn't look they knew what they were doing? Rushing around, jumping table to table with orders, i’m surprised the kitchen could keep up! They didn't know which beers/ales/ lagers they were selling. Staff standing around bar area chatting in a group not very clear who were the managers out of the older staff as they all looked a bit lost and flustered to honest! Oh and tall muscular bald guy stomping almost throwing his weight around looking very unapproachable serving the meals was something else, maybe he was the manager he looked stressed. Struggled to get their attention for bill but eventually got it and they had the cheek to put a service charge on! I don't mind leaving a tip but i decide how much and when deserved, based on the food alone 100% deserved the amount they were asking but the service is the deal breaker, i paid it purely for the chefs they outshone the front and we didn’t even see them

Bit disappointed here. Had heard a lot about this place and it's "famous" Steak and Ale pies. Unfortunately this was the most disappointing pie of our Hadrian's Wall tour. (With 3 dinners all being steak and ale pie) Pastry was overcooked/burnt, meat quantity sub-par and gravy just "average" not really worth the hype. I wish we could rate this as 5/5 given how nice the staff were. But the pub offers poor food and atmosphere, despite its high profile. It has a brewery, and yet on the evening that we just wished to drink their beer, we were only allowed to sit outside, and on a chilly evening. We ate in the pub twice, and had some meals that were fairly nice (there were 5 in our party), but most didn’t come up to scratch. As we encountered overseas tourists walking a leg of Hadrian’s Wall, and heading for Twice Brewed for the night, I winced at the thought of the English fare they would encounter. Disappointing, almost an exploitation of the captive audience. Other pubs in prime locations do better.

The food in the restaurant was absolutely fantastic; I had their famous pie and it was honestly the best pie I have ever eaten. Clearly home made and utterly delicious; the beef was so tender, perfect pastry and amazing gravy. I had with skinny fries, which again were absolutely perfect. Faultless. The desserts were utterly divine too. Service was excellent - the staff were very friendly and were clearly working their socks off in a full restaurant, hats off to them. Had an excellent full breakfast the following morning; there was also fruit, yoghurt, pastries, cereal and toast on offer. Once again, wonderful staff who were very friendly, such a warm Northumbrian welcome. I wouldn’t hesitate staying here again; an excellent location and wonderful, friendly service; what’s not to love.

Great food, great atmosphere and service. Lucky to get a table according to the lady whom seated me as it was a busy Sunday. Got the lamb Sunday roast with mint sauce. Great meal and didn't need to add Salt. Not expensive either

Beers are great. But We ordered loaded chips which were not given to the table until we asked were they were, about 30minutes late. The food came out a minute later or so later but tasted as if they had sat for a bit and then were microwaved. Staff did not seem that friendly, no question of how everything was, just pay the bill and go. I'd save your money and time and go elsewhere unless you are just getting beer.

Stayed at Twice Brewed Inn for a long weekend whilst attending family wedding in the area. Everyone of the staff we met was friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We stayed in one of the cabins which had everything we needed and was expertly cleaned by Angela and the ladies. Couldn't find fault with any of the food we had, the breakfast was huge - I didn't need to eat at lunchtime!! Lots of choice for evening meal and beautifully cooked. I loved the smoked haddock in a cream sauce. Would we stay there again? Most certainly.

Nice atmosphere. Nice chips. The fish and chips seemed good. Dogs welcomed. My scampi seemed to be big beautiful king prawns but the tails were in the batter which I accidentally ate part of. My son rated his burger 8.5/10, and he has eaten many from around the world!

Worst chilli nachos I've ever had, completely amateur and not cheap. Also had diet coke, clear taste of fluoride so concentrate.. Yechhh.
