An excellent pub meal - we were a party of 4 and everyone enjoyed their dinner (Cheese Souffle/Steak & Ale Pie/Cumberland Sausage & Mash) along with the pubs own craft beer. The historical décor and ambiance was much appreciated too. We included a Stargazing Event which was awesome, making a really fabulous whole evening combined experience. Thank you to the staff of The Twice Brewed Inn for being so friendly too.

If you are walking Hadrians wall, chances are you'll stay here, it's almost halfway and close to the "former" sycamore gap, the crime might have hurt them, but they were still very busy and I'd recommend booking for dinner, they brew their own beer "sycamore gap" what else. But they have used their location well, we found it efficient, clean and friendly, good breakfast. If you want to stay it's pretty much the only place but expect a good experience..

Lovely pub but…. Had Sunday lunch which was nice but swimming in gravy (not everyone likes gravy on their meal!!) and veg came in a small dish to share with my husband, is this really necessary? especially when the portion doesn’t reflect for 2 meals! I had a larger shandy and was charged for a pint of larger! 2 alchohol free drinks for just under £13 bit steep!! And a tip was automatically added to the bill. Unfortunately my husband paid the bill and didn’t have his specs on so didn’t check before paying, our fault but very cheeky to automatically add a service charge and not ask if this is ok. Won’t be going back.

A very nice meal with very well cooked lamb. The only thing I didn't like, and was a complete surprise to us, was the service charge. I know they're not obligatory but you feel uncomfortable and embarrassed by not paying it. Still, it was a nice meal.

Food was truly awful. Chicken literally too tough too eat. Weird watery, flavorless sauce for pasta. No apology when I complained. There's nowhere else to eat closeby if you're on foot. Very disappointing, especially after a long day's walking. I ate a lot of crisps and drank beer (their beer was nice at least - just don't eat there if you can avoid it!).

Dreadful food. So disappointing. Was looking forward on splashing out on a decent meal after a long day's walking (staying locally and there are no other food options in walking distance). Ordered a pasta dish with butternut squash, spinach and extra chicken. (Not cheap). Chicken was so tough it was literally inedible. The rest of it was also grim - a watery, odd tasting sauce, a few tiny bits if flavorless squash and a bit of slimy spinach. Staff unconcerned when I complained. I did not receive an apology. Just grim. Beer was good though!

Visited this weekend as we were staying in the area for a couple of nights and I had high hopes based on reviews and recommendations - sadly it didn't quite live up to expectations for me. It is a lovely pub and the garden is lovely to have a drink in the sun. The food however was a bit of a let down. My partner had the steak and ale pie with chips - he said the pie was good but the chips were so heavily salted they were difficult to eat. I had the squash rigatoni - the pasta itself was undercooked and chewy, rather than al dente, and the sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste. Both main courses were just a bit disappointing for the price. Desserts were nice, thankfully - would recommend the pecan pie and the white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake.

The food and drinks (beer brewed on site) is great, the bar and rooms are warm and inviting, and the surrounding environment - and especially the excellent beer garden, complete with stargazing pods and a winding brook - are all wonderful. The beer selection was also very good. Our room was a bit on the small side but did have everything you needed, was comfortable and very clean. The shower over bath was excellent and towel were of good quality. The only issue we had with our room was that the walls between rooms were paper thin as we could clearly hear the occupants of the adjoining room talking and snoring throughout the night. We ate in the restaurant on the evening and had breakfast in the morning there. Overall the food was good and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would I stay there again…….. most definitely YES.

We had a very good time, the service was impeccable and all the staff managed to be available to all the tables. Wide range of beers and spirits, good menu. The restaurant is very close to the crossroads that leads to the Roman fort of Vindolanda, therefore in the high tourist season it may be difficult to find a place both at the table and in the adjacent car park, I would therefore recommend booking in advance. We were seated next to a fire (which was incredibly welcome as it was -5 outside). Someone came and took our drinks order and we were served them in under 10 minutes. Our food order was taken and we were served within 25 minutes, the pub was approximately half full and this was around 1.30pm. My daughter spilled her lemonade but this was dealt with kindly by the staff and her lemonade was replaced without extra charge which was great! Our thanks to Holly who engaged with out little one well. Food quality was great for us, plenty of vegetarian/vegan options and everything was clearly labelled. Looks like this will be my last review of 2024, the venue, The Twice Brewed Inn up on Hadrian’s Wall just off the Military Road or the B6318 to some? Out with the lady friend and her dogs up on Hadrian’s Wall trying to explain to her about my anger over the demise of the Sycamore Gap tree in 2023 as we made to our table for two booked for Sunday lunch at The Twice Brewed Inn. Special shout out to Judith who served/dealt with us, great service, I think she’d sussed out I was the type to do a food review so quickly laughed along with my incredibly crap and unfunny banter. The Twice Brewed Inn was already very busy on arrival, we were shown to quite a nice cosy little table at the top end of the dining area close to the toilets, this can be a bonus in some ways but also a hindrance in others, thankfully we were surrounded by people who clearly had strong bowels and bladders so passing traffic was pretty minimal. Ambiance good, decor fine, people chattering, a baby crying, the odd dog occasionally barking and a distinct lack of music, almost sheer bliss but clearly a tourist hotspot. Service polite and efficient, I ordered in a couple of pints of alcohol free beer along with our food orders, starters being the cheese soufflé, a large lamb dinner for the lady and me being me requested a large three meats dinner with beef, lamb and chicken. Food came within good time, the cheese soufflé starters were actually very good, probably the highlight of what I had there. I think opting for the soufflés was definitely a good choice as other starters I clocked arriving on the other tables didn’t look as interesting or impressive. Our main courses followed up within good time of finishing our starters, they’re certainly not shy of a bit of gravy on the plate at The Twice Brewed Inn that’s for sure, I’m delighted to say my fellow diner thoroughly enjoyed her dinner. Don’t get me wrong I think the food was good after self-applying some black pepper to the very plain beef, lamb and chicken and another roast potato on the plate certainly wouldn’t have hurt matters but everything else, it was ok, spot on. Desserts, we both opted for some rum and raisin ice-cream, my three scoops to her one but sadly these were tiny in my book, I must have got the scoops with no rum flavouring too? Coffee was nice but no biscuit, not even a cheap and nasty Lotus speculoos? Tut tut tut… Ok, I’m happy enough to recommend The Twice Brewed Inn, it was a nice Sunday out, the food ok, the venue busy and pleasant.

TL:DR Overpriced for what it is but given its location it's not surprising. There was an issue with the pay machine for parking being out of order that we raised with staff which was surprising to them saying "it has been fine all day". We were told it should be fine but normally we would need to pay which wasn't very reassuring we wouldn't get a ticket and no one went out to check. The food was nice and arrived quickly but was expensive for what it was and a service charge added on that we were unaware of, which is unusual for a table of two in a pub, the service was fine.

Busy! So best book if you want lunch. Dogs I think are allowed. I first drank there in 1984 doing the Pennine Way.

This restaurant was amazing from start to finish. We received the best service from all the lovely staff and our food arrived within a short amount of time. Such a great Sunday lunch. I would highly recommend this place, if I didn’t live so far away this would be a staple for Sunday lunches.

Lovely big, clean and comfortable room. Efficient and friendly staff. Great breakfast - and we were very pleasantly surprised to find that the breakfast was included in the reasonable rate for the room. When we returned to the room at night, after eating in a local restaurant, there was quite loud music and singing in the pub downstairs - yet we heard none of this from our room upstairs, so don't let any pub noise put you off at all. Instead, it's a sign of a friendly, popular place and none of it carries to the bedrooms upstairs. Highly recommended, and thank you for a great stay!

Who could not enjoy a hot drink and delicious cake outside on the cobbles at this lovely cafe? Highly enjoyable!
