The Turnpike in Doncaster

A great pub, full of characters and the added bonus of being able to see a TV screen showing sport wherever you’re sat in the place. The Thursday night quiz is a staple of local life and the bubbly Georgia serving behind the bar and chatting to regulars and strangers alike gives it extra kudos, she even agrees with me that my feet are the best she’s seen!! 😂

Visited here on Sunday for lunch and it was very quiet. The food was okay (I had the 'BBQ Mac Burger + Chips') and the staff were friendly enough, but the place just had no atmosphere. Decent pricing at £15.49 for the meal and a drink.

Lovely little pub with great staff. Met friends there all had different meal. Beautiful presented by the chef Corey and Antonio's. Even better when we got the bill, £4.99 off each meal as a summer special. Will definitely go again.

Great spot in Bawtry for lunch, service was lovely, food was great. Curtis & Beck were superstars. They had a good deal on too which is helpful for a quick midweek stop

Came in for a bite to eat, the new Beef Chilli was great and so was the Cheese & Beans toastie. The team were polite and attentive, which helps make the visit memorable. Would definitely recommend!

Don't have the lasagne.. Or if you do take a straw!! The bar lady in fairness offered to swap it (I declined as another lasagne looked the same) so she went off to talk to her manager. However.. she didn't come back. She was seen sitting on the outside step, probably recovering from the shock that I complained. To be fair, ignoring an issue is usually the best way to deal with things though!! Maybe they were worried I wanted a refund but they really needed that money to buy actual pasta to put in the next batch of lasagne for the freezer. Anyway, enjoy if you still decide to go for it. Mmmmm soup!! And enjoy the experience of the fantastic service...... I certainly did 🤔!!!!!

Enjoyed an afternoon out meeting some friends for a drink. We had cocktails which were 2-4-1! The team behind the bar were lovely and really helpful with my awkward allergy to pineapple! Got a bit peckish and had one of their “big plates” which are definitely big but shared between 2 people, they’re a great choice. We had the Taste of The Deep South. Definitely recommend!

Lovely friendly service from Curtis and our food was really good from Corey the chef! Wasn’t a long wait at all but the food was perfect. Vegan bombay burger was banging and the lasagna very good too. Definitely will come again for it - Thankyou!

Woeful. Clueless staff and a completely poor service with food service. Whoever has voted this as No 1 in Bawtry must be taking bribes. It’s an average pub with third rate service. We won’t be back. A horror show. Avoid.

Really lovely decor, great staff and quality food. We felt really welcome from the minute we walked in to the minute we left. The service was very fast and extremely polite. Food was Delicious and plenty, It was our first visit here and we cant wait to return. Thanks.

My wife and I called at the Turnpike pub at Bawtry on evening 11/03/2024. We had a very pleasant reception, say we called with no previous reservation. The staff was very professional and friendly - the meal was prompt and presentation excellent and tasty. Thank you to all involved. Mr J Clayton

Came in valentine’s day for food with the girl friend was excellent, it came out fast and was well priced. Great customer service from the bar staff, would definitely visit again.

Went for a few drinks Sunday afternoon with my partner, sports was available on TV. Good range of drinks got one free for downloading the mixr app Tyler told us about. Will come again

Very bad the meat was so bad it was like plastic. Iv eating in high end and low end places but this was terrible and really expensive. Very disappointed

Came in with some pals to watch the Rugby and had this lad called Tyler helping with suggestions on what to drink and eat, was very good service and help.

Driving through the little village in Doncaster with my family and thought we would stop off and grab a bite to eat at the turnpike pub. We ordered at the bar and served by a lovely lady named Emma. She made sure we had everything we needed. top service would definitely pop in next time we drive through Bawtry.

Nice food and a nice atmosphere. Went for Lunch on a Saturday. Prices ok. Barmaid Emma was very courteous. Would go back again.

First time in the pub. Meeting a friend for lunch! Great January offer £7menu and half price drinks until 4pm. We had fish and chips from January special offer menu! Was delicious and plentiful for lunch! The ladies who served us (sorry didnt catch the names)were very friendly and accommodating! The place was tidy and clean. All in all great experience.

Very good food. Pie was lovely. Veg was nice and fresh. Nice selection of lagers. Nothing to fault. Just a good quality everyday pub. Will come again! Bar staff, Esmina and Emma were great.

The husband and I popped in Saturday (29th Feb) for a quick drink on our way home. The atmosphere was very welcoming. The young lady behind the bar was very pleasant, she couldn't do enough for us. I enjoyed talking to her. The food that was coming out was beautifully present so we decide to try it for ourselves. I'm glad we did. We honestly couldn't fault it. We'll defiantly be back.

My wife and I called in at Bawtry for a lunch break Saturday 29th, we were very lucky to park on the main road just outside The Turnpike. We went in and was greeted with a lovely smile from the lady behind the bar, we ordered the soup of the day which was cauliflower. This was served with beautiful fresh bread and delicious butter, for drinks we chose half of beer each. All this was enjoyed sat at a table in the window, there was other people in the restaurant having a variety of freshly cooked food which looked very nice. so to sum up our visit to The Turnpike was a most enjoyable experience, and we are pleased to recommend it. ( a lovely find)

What a great pub, found on 1st visit to Bawtry. Nice atmosphere, great reasonably priced food and really friendly staff, would highly recommend this pub and Wednesday night pub quiz was lots of fun. I’m sure we’ll be back

Was charged over £6 for a gin and tonic that had one ice cube and no fruit. Unbelievable rip off. A shame as the Turnpike always used to be good value for money compared to other bars in Bawtry.

Rude and arrogant bar staff.. looks like a cross between my grandmothers dining room and a school canteen.. ignored by bar staff and just needs a glass collector and tables wiping.. What is this place?? Bar.. Pub.. Club.. Brasserie.. or just a queuing system.. avoid..

Went here for Sunday lunch 01-09.19. Was very disappointed. Was just adequate. The veg were over boiled and tasteless. Had the garlic creamy mushrooms for starter nothing to rave about. Shame as they have done lots of work to make the place look really nice.

Called in for a pre dinner drink place clean but seemed a little dark, man behind the bar very friendly.Feel the drinks are overpriced or I was overcharged.On the board behind the bar it was wrote on to try a raspberry bicardi for £2 so I ordered this and a cider which was on draft and my bill was £8.50 only had a splash of draft lemonade so I was charged 6.50 for a draft cider and a splash of lemonade. As it happens the cider was very flat and as you got to the bottom alot of sticky syrup, will try somewhere else for pre drinks next time.Going abit downhill

It is many many years since I last visited this pub and what a face-lift. We called in for a lovely lunch and what a lovely atmosphere. Table cloths flowers on the tables. Lovely bar staff and waitress. Had a fab steak and cheese sandwich with homemade chips and my husband had beef in ale gravy sandwich. Both well presented and very enjoyable.We were stopping the night in Bawtry so we called in later on for drinks. We enjoyed the atmosphere so much we stopped for a few. It was a Saturday night and the music was great.Can't wait till our next stop over.

What a surprise, must be 6 years since I was last in the Turnpike, called for lunch today, was a set 3 course, not something we normally have, but we had it and it was delicious. Well presented, plenty of vegetables, good food and the waiting staff couldn’t have been lovelier.Fabulous we will definitely be back for the normal menu, checked it on line and most impressive.Oh and so much better than a carvery lunch where you just pile everything on a plate, so nice to have it in a serving dish to just add as you want.Recommended .

I was worried from the outside that it would be your typical blokes pub but I couldn't be more wrong. The atmosphere in here is amazing and it is for all ages!

Enjoyed some very good fish and chips with mushy peas and Ruddles ale for a late lunch. The cod was perfectly cooked with its skin in a light but crisp batter and served on a bed of delightful chips. The Ruddles ale was at a perfect cellar temperature and of good taste and quality.

This pub has everything, atmosphere, position, beer garden and excellent food! it is in the centre of a very busy tourist place so you can't miss it. The hosts and staff are very helpful and pleasant. I loved the decor and when we went back at night, it was buzzing! everyone was partying and dancing, thoroughly recommend this place.

We visited on Saturday; sat at a table for ten minutes waiting for some waiter service.

Had a great night last Friday as always at The Turnpike in Bawtry. Real friendly atmosphere and great laugh. Definitely be back again soon .

What a fantastic place, the food is delicious served by friendly helpful staff, and the atmosphere is amazing especially on disco nights,. Mark the manager is particularly friendly and makes you feel welcome from the minute you walk in.. a fun, friendly place with great food what more could you want.. definitely THE PLACE TO BE..

Have been here a couple of times - on each occasion as a starting point for a quick drink for other places in Bawtry. I have to say the atmosphere is brilliant, the welcome is warm and the IPA in particular is very very good.

Had Sunday lunch here before which was delicious but decided to try the afternoon menu. So glad we did, the food was amazing! Homemade pie was to die for and the service was great. Would definitely recommend.

Met by a very helpful waitress, drinks served promptly and food order taken. So far so good. Then a wait of over 40 mins for simple starters and even then only after we had chased them up. Asked if they could make sure our mains would be served as soon as our starters were finished as due to the delay with the starters we were now under time pressure. Starters finished and ....... long wait so had to get up to find someone to get our mains. Mains arrived but it was 5 mins before the veg came to accompany it.

Lovely pub with a great atmosphere, definitely worth going in for a drink. Decor is better too since it’s been renovated!

Visited with disabled wife. Very helpful and accommodating staff. The building was not built as disabled friendly but front access for a wheelchair was fine. Toilets are a challenge. Overall pleased that staff and owner made every effort to make us feel welcome and brought our drinks over to us.

Always been one of my favourite venues in Bawtry - and now even more so. We were in on Saturday night and the music, atmosphere and service was excellent so we did not leave till 1am!!

Good food and service at a great price.

Called into Bawtry to see what the turnpike was like after all the good comments I have seen and heard. Must admit they were not wrong the food is delicious you can tell it's cooked from scratch that's why a little wait. But didn't mind at least it wasn't a microwave meal. Company was next to none. Would recommend to anyone

Me and my family recently visited Bawtry and decided on The Turnpike, this proved to be a fantastic choice as the decor is beautiful - homely with a touch of class that leaves you feeling relaxed and very welcome! The food was delicious my partner had a burger and I had the Steak which was a very nice cut of meat - the staff were very attentive and great with our children and priced very competitive for Bawtry. We will without doubt be returning and would definitely recommend it as a place to visit if your in Bawtry!

Well as you can see from my previous review that we attend this bar when we are in bawtry the bar and atmosphere is excellent the staff are friendly and polite. But we were told to try the food it was very disappointing the burger we had was over cooked and dry the fish and chips was absolutely rubbish there are far better places to eat in bawtry.just call in for a drink forget about ordering food.

Lovely decor, poor customer service. Took 35 minuets for a lasagne and baked potato to come to the table, there was only our table of two in.Looked nice but lasagne really dry, no one came and asked how our food was. Told waitress that food was dry, only half eaten and she said "oh it might need more tomatoes" expensive for what we had.

After seeing the turnpike advertise a Valentines meal I booked myself and my partner in for a meal tonight, the food was amazing, great portion size, amazing price, the atmosphere was fantastic, couldn't of asked for a more perfect way to spend the night with my partner, looking forward to returning to sample more from the menu

Love this pub and at this time of year they put up outstanding Christmas decorations. We have never eaten here but always pop in for a drink before going to a restaurant. Always a friendly welcome, we'll be back!

Popped in here after shopping and was pleasantly surprised. Greeted with delicious scents and tasteful decor our hopes were high. We opted for homemade lasagne and steak sandwich. The only criticism I have is that the music was just a tad too loud for my taste and where we were sat ( near the entrance ) there was a carriage type light behind my partner that was far too bright for comfort. A lower wattage bulb would be great. The cruet was elegant and the overall feel of the place was warm and welcoming. Complete with real fires and spotlessly clean toilets.

Went for lunch after reading a few reviews my husband ordered chicken wings which was well worth it I ordered the spicy prawns which was very poor no spice at all and the prawns over cooked waited quite a while for our mains I ordered hunters chicken half way through eating it was red vains and the chicken wasn’t cooked properly the waiting staff looked miserable didn’t once come and ask how the food was and we also had to ask for sauces not many people in won’t be going back.

It’s seems the turnpike has had a makeover and now does a lunch menu. I ordered a steak sandwich which came with salad and chips. It’s was very tasty and the chips were nice.

Called at the Turnpike for an early tea drink with friends as we had heard it had changed hands and things had improved. Very friendly staff and quite a few changes made to the inside with more to come we understand. Served at the bar quickly and told of special offer on the white wine which was good. Great seating area and we had a couple of bottles and thoroughly enjoyed passing some time here. It is definitely on our list of places to go to in Bawtry and it looks like getting even better in the very near future. Can recommend it.

I think we arrived on a bad day. There was a bit of a arguement going on which was a bit off putting. We were going to have food but ended up just having a quick drink and left.

We were a large mixed group and the staff were very friendly and efficient. The place is very clean with different seating. We didn’t eat here but the food looked good

Having visited one Sunday just my husband and I we were so impressed we came back as a family with our two children. We have tried many places for Sunday lunch but they never compare to my own!! Until now, the roast dinners here are wonderful and great value for money and the staff are lovely xx

We dropped by for a drink which was our first visit, the Pub is situated in the Market Town of Bawtry.

Went in here a while back and it was quiz night!! had to be super quiet and sit in a corner where some eye balled like we had 3 heads, we drank up and left ! won't be back, this used to be a good pub with good music and lively but now? not good!

Have only recently started doing food again. Went in for Sunday lunch today with my partner and two friends. Starters were excellent and very tasty. Man course was served with fresh vegetables and great choice of meats. Sorry but we couldn't manage desserts! Chef came out to check everything was good for us. Very, very pleased

used to love going in but boy wont go in again. Theres a new manager and what a horrible person she is. Walks round slagging the customers off and then started slagging staff off, in front of customers Get a new manager in before she drives all the customers away. Staff are lovely especially the weekday day staff (the one that's been there for years and the tiny one)

Wife's birthday so called in for a drink, Oh Joy Stella Artois on tap!! Town very quiet on Monday only half a dozen customers so had comfortable window seat and watched world go by!!

Tuve una visita rápida a lo que era una antigua belleza. Estaba muy decepcionado, para ser honesto. Ahora parece aburrido y no hay ambiente. Tenía una copa rápida y a la izquierda. Uso de visitar hace años y el pub era siempre próspera el uso personal a ser genial, pero no lo siento visita otra vez.

Excellent entertainment on in this bar .The staff are very efficient and polite.a great place to visit if you are out and about in Bawtry.can only be beaten in my opinion by the crown hotel.

Very clean and friendly staff, toilets very clean. even though very busy you were not stood about waiting to be served staff very on the ball. Bit more smiling from 1 or 2 of the staff, even the bouncer had a chat .

El problema con la Turnpike es que realmente no sé lo que es. Es un pub? Usted encontrará que en la izquierda cuando entras en de la ajetreada calle exterior. Es un chi-chi, tarted bar a la de estilo moderno? Que es de la derecha. Este lugar, con sus suelos de piedra, es el sufrimiento de señas empelado esquizofrenia. Dieron una renovación en los últimos años, parte de parece un louche boudoir (luz desagradables - accesorios y muebles y accesorios incluso nastier) y el otro es el escenario para un pub tradicional, tal y como se preveía por un diseñador de la televisión que nunca ha viajado más allá de Belgravia. No tienen ninguna comida, porque no podía ser molestado a vagar por más de la quaff de pinta. Un solo ale, dos sonriente barman, que no podía pedir cualquier cosa como un amable saludo, y que añadió a una atmósfera de inminente melancólico. Una cerveza pequeña "jardín" en la parte trasera, que es más como un patio de fumador, y estar al frente, lo cual es bastante agradable - si te gusta el humo de escape de la principal carretera norte-sur. Hay algunos, que fuera cestas colgantes son pintadas de llamativos y hecho por una empresa local, y no el propietario o su personal. Bawtry se merece algo mejor. Pero, sabiendo bawtry, tiene lo que se merece. Simplemente mediocre. Un objetivo de perder, y luego por una milla.

Always like to pop here when i am in bawtry as its very friendly and a great atmosphere, however i have knocked off a star for my visit yesterday as i feel the lady who served me was moody and snappish.

Yo entramos en la autopista, mientras que en Bawtry y había sido una larga caminata barro en las cercanías de bosques. Tuve mis dos Newfoundlands conmigo que eran muy embarrados y húmeda. No podría haber sido más recibieron una cálida bienvenida y quedé muy impresionado por la acogida, amabilidad y complaciente super. El pub era cálida y tenía vino rojo. El personal incluso un espacio para que nos trajo regalos y agua para los perros. No puedo esperar a volver. Muchas gracias Linda

Estábamos en nuestro camino hacia el sur que quiera un sitio para comer cuando el tráfico era redirigido a través de Bawtry. Llamamos a un pub en la calle que nos dijo el almuerzo era así salimos y en la Turnpike. A pesar de que el lugar estaba lleno, el personal nos aseguraban y nos hizo sentir muy bienvenidos, así que nos sentamos y pedimos nuestras bebidas. Las bebidas eran entregados a nuestra mesa y me sugirieron una litebite 'sus sándwiches con Turquía, carne, pollo, etc. Pedimos. Cuando los bocadillos vinieron, eran más un plato con patatas fritas, salsas y guarnición, y todos los barcos se completa con una salsa. El sabor era tan buena como la presentación fabulosa. Muy pronto en nuestro camino hacia el sur, pero nunca olvidaré la bienvenida en el Turnpike. Vamos a tener que desviar de nuevo.

First timer, lovely staff. Ordered 2 grey goose and tonic but they had run out of grey goose. Rather than disappoint the lovely man ran to the shop and bought a bottle.10/10 for customer service. Will be back when we can stay longer. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Getting better with age as they say. The kitchen now seems to be in parr with other bars in the area and the food was well presented, tasty and hot. Staff have upped their game with a warm welcome and efficient service. Try it out as its one of the best locals in Bawtry - live music is always great too!

Only ever been here to meet friends for a pre dinner drink before, pub always seemed busy but very dated and not in a good way! Just passing with my son ( a big real ale fan) before Christmas, and decided on a quick bite for lunch... wow, what a surprise! New young couple have taken it over, smartened the place up, very stylish! Both had fish and chips with homemade tartare sauce, and was absolutely perfect.. manager behind the bar was very friendly and informative, lunch menu quite limited but food was cooked to perfection. Will definitely return...

We visited The Turnpike last night for drinks and was pleased to see that the previously remodelled area that had been turned (badly) in to a kind of tacky champagne lounge has been redecorated and is now more in-line with the rest of the pub. Seems like the owner finally saw sense.

I meet up ever year with former workmates in different places, this time we selected Bawtry, near Doncaster, South Yorkshire.We called in the Turnpike public house first, where has I am a real ale drinker, my 2 former workmates being lager drinkers.On offer was a few real ales, I tried the Green Goose 3.8%, brewed by Hook Norton, was not to my liking, so had a pint of Christmas Ale 3.8%, brewed by Exmoor, not bad but would like to stay in a pub & drink this beer all night.A good welcome by the publicans of the Turnpike, so on to another venue.

Been here a few times, great food staff are great especially Antonia who goes the extra mile and always has a smile on your face so makes you feel welcome

First visit to the Turnpike, so pretty inside. Staff absolutely fantastic, helpful and the food delicious. Great value. Had Xmas dinner in a brioche roll and really enjoyed it. Atmosphere second to none, all in all a joyful experience and will be calling in again. Highly recommend.

We popped in for a drink Friday, saw the menu on the bar and decided to have a little snack. 2 burgers. Absolutely delicious. Excellent value, and the girl behind the bar was friendly and helpful too. Looking forward to trying the Sunday lunch!

Have used The Turnpike several times and always been impressed with the food and service, the pub has a friendly feeling and serves some excellent beers, quiz nights are on Wednesdays and Thursday is live music nights which has some of the top local talent which are quite impressive.Recently attended a bistro night which was a chance for the resident chef to impress with a different and varied choice which was very impressive. Overall a likeable venue, good food, good beer and good music .

We stopped en route for lunch and chose this full of character pub in the centre of Bawtry. Good ale was followed by a sandwich between the two of us for a snack. The freshly cooked peri-peri chicken was well worth waiting for. Great staff too!We will certainly return!

A group of us had some Business at Doncaster Airport. We drove through Bawtry and found this Pub. Looked inviting and it turned out to be exactly that. Great staff, especially Charlotte, who looked after us during the meal. Great Menu, the Steak sandwich was a "melt in your mouth" experience! The others had Fish 'n' chips which looked great too. A pleasure to eat and drink here, looking forward to visit again! Thanks!

Came here for Sunday roast, friendly and helpful staff and food was great. Nice choice and good value for money. Service was prompt and the atmosphere relaxing. Beef was succulent and tender. Ate there for the first time couple of weeks ago, Sun was shining so sat outside, we had soup to Start, I could have ate that till I popped ha ha, it was delicious, as I am vegetarian I chose the Sunday lunch vegi option. We were very impressed. Will be going again

I found the pub very comfortable food very good the staff very helpful and welcoming a good choice of real ales and other beers soft drinks and tea & coffee served and it's situated in the centre of town
