Distinctly average. Visited over the bank holiday weekend, the place was not busy in the slightest. Food was ok but over priced for what it was, service was slow and lack lustre and despite there only being two of us dining a 10% gratuity was automatically added to our bill. No one I’d hurry back to as there are plenty of other spots in the area with better service, pricing and atmosphere

Fantastic steak pie available on a Sunday. The most tender meat you can imagine and all the trimmings, it was a lovely meal.

Brilliant place to eat. There were 13 of us ,with prebooked food. Service and food was excellent. Could not fault it.

Never worth the money and then to add a service charge to the bill £9.75,for a large wine. The meal was OK but really expensive for a pub . One to be missed.

Me and my wife have been coming to the Royal Oak for quite a while now as it’s only around the corner from our kids school. It’s an amazing atmosphere, staff are really friendly and helpful and the food is some of the nicest food you will ever eat. For what you pay, the portion sizes are huge, so you definitely get your money’s worth, and everything is delicious! I had the chicken and chorizo linguine and my wife had the steak pie - both were unbelievably delicious! If you’re passing through Tickhill or the surrounding areas at any point, it’s definitely a place to visit!

Can't think of anything bad, the Yorkshire puddings are the best I have had in any place out, tasty gravy, and perfectly cooked meat and veg. Ps, apple sauce should be assumed on a pork dinner.)

The food was absolutely lovely .. I had the steak pie and mash with mushy peas. They brought an extra jug of gravy without even asking. The pie was absolutely full of meat and the mash was beaut. All in all it was one of the best pub grub meals I've had in ages.

Great food we love going here we have never been disappointed no matter what we have off the menu its always been spot on Looking forward to next time.

Great food, really enjoyed it but they seemed short staffed. Never sure if the drinks are table or bar service, seems a mixture of both but staff didn’t offer table ‘top ups’. Asked about desserts but never got the menu.

Mid afternoon, so not much atmosphere. Food did seem a good choice but a tad on the expensive side. The servers were nice and hospitable. Will no doubt be back once the weather is warmer.

Today myself, mum and grandma visited the Pilgrim Fathers location in scrooby. Unfortunately the food wasn't the best and one of the dishes we ordered was wrong, my mum ordered a vegetarian dish but it came with meat. This was not intentional by the chefs. Despite the above, Josh (the manager) was absolutely amazing. We couldn't have asked for better service. He looked after us well and comped 2 of the dishes! Super friendly guy. We all left beaming

I absolutely love it at Royal Oak! It’s my favourite place to visit for a meal out with family and friends! We recently visited on the 4th January and I’d happily give it 5 stars 🌟 The food is beautiful and not to mention the fact I’m gluten free which they cater for well and truly! There’s so much option and choice! They never felt to disappoint! Always a pleasant and friendly atmosphere and the staff are lovely! You always feel welcomed and they can never do enough for you! I’ll be back again for sure ✨

Thought we would give this place a go as recently moved to nearby Conisbrough. Started off very well being shown to our table on arrival and our drinks order taken at same time. When drinks arrived we were asked whether we had decided our mains, which we had, so order placed with the lady serving. The mains arrived very quickly and the food was absolutely lovely, could not fault it. Our table was cleared quickly after our mains and then it went downhill. This is the second time in a short space of time at two different eateries where we have waited and waited to be offered a dessert menu. The lady that cleared our mains should perhaps have offered a dessert menu, but did not, straightaway this puts us on warning that we will not get a dessert for a second time. After some time it did appear we had been forgotten so decided to just pay for what we had and left. Why is it that so many establishments fall down on desserts, I could easily name three places where we have left before getting a dessert menu. Big shame! We have since dined here again and everything was spot on. The food was as good as ever, and we had a dessert.🤣 Service really quick and warrants 5 stars on this visit. Thank you.

The reason for the 3 star was that when you advertise food served between certain times, you should expect customers coming off the street without a booking. When we arrived and asked for food, you could not accommodate as you were on your own and already had a few bookings to attend to. I fully understand, but make this apparent to non table reservations. Regards

I don't eat out for lunch very often. The pub was busy. Ordered the steak pie. Very tasty and plenty of it. If the other food is as good as the the pie you'll not be disappointed.

Fabulous Pie!! Seriously, best I’ve had in a long long time. Perfectly seasoned, delicious buttery mash. Amazing!

Only in for a drink but place was very busy with locals ordering food which is always a good sign. Shame that cocktails are premade, no IPA on tap.Asides from those minor points a very nice place to visit

We always go to the black lion in Firbeck, when we heard that Harper inns had taken over the royal oak we thought we’d give it a go. We found it distinctly average in comparison. The entrance to the pub looked untidy and cluttered with high chairs. Not a lot of atmosphere and the food was poor. We won’t be visiting again unfortunately.

Never had a bad meal here and we've been going for years. Food is lovely and service fast and efficient. We booked a table for 7 people and couldn't fault anything. Great value for money too.

Very, very small portions. Smallest bowl. of soup, although it was tasty. Small cup of coffee, and it was black. Poor value for money

Friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere on a midweek visit. Good solid lunchtime pub food menu and our order arrived quickly. Quality tunes being played as the ambient music too! Will definitely return.

Great 2nd visit after a disappointing first time. The owner contacted me privately and made amends from a previous experience. The food was superb, the service was top notch and the restaurant was busy at 8pm on a week night. Now I can say I'd definitely recommend the place and the food.

I asked for three normal cokes and one diet, the bar man clearly misheard but I explained my sister in law was pregnant so I needed to differentiate the diet from the normal with a straw in the diet. I held my fingers up 3 and 1. He poured them wrong and I explained I said “im so sorry but that’s the wrong way around”. He told me he wasn’t pouring them again and slammed the straw down. He said I would have to pay for them. He then said I was wrong and I said I was sure what I said because of my sister in law and he became so rude and angry I told him we would be leaving. It escalated so quickly. Do not come here if you want human treatment. He was bald, and angry because he was “the only one on shift” so clearly in a bad mood and felt it was ok to speak to me rudely. He had been sharp to my partner who asked if dogs were ok to come in previously so we sat outside because the atmosphere was horrendous. (We had the intention of ordering food) UPDATE: we went to a nearby DIFFERENT pub and my sister in law ordered the drinks, 3 normal one diet. The bar man at that pub also got it the wrong way. We told him and he laughed and replaced the drinks. I would like the manager to contact me as I told him as I left it was absolutely appalling behaviour.

Sunday dinner was superb. Portion sizes perfect and the loyalty card is an added bonus. The extra gravy jug is an idea all restaurants should copy.

The best Sunday dinner & steak pie! We have been been once before and knew the food was amazing, this time we decided to take our doggy and how attentive they were! He had his own mini Sunday roast and plenty of fusses and treats. A new tradition for us I think🐾

Me and my friend recently came in for food at the Royal Oak. We were greeted by a young genteleman called Cameron. We had a pie and a dessert each. The pie was delicious, and was obviously homemade. Cameron, our waiter, was polite and friendly, enhancing our overall visit. To conclude the Royal Oak was a great place for a satisfying meal with excellent service!

Lovely pub, staff very friendly. The food was great although the wife's food could have done with being a bit hotter.

Cold food, I had liver pate, we which was fine, chips were awful, stone ,awful meal

So my wife and I popped in for a quick drink and was absolutely gob smacked at the pricing structure. £4.95 for a pot of tea where the tea bag costs no more than 5p! Which in publican terms is 96% profit. It was more expensive than a John smiths which was also pricy at £4.90. Avoid this place at all costs as you need a mortgage to drink here. I will tell everyone about this place and to avoid at all costs.

First time visiting this pub, was greeted with a warm welcome and bar manager set us up on a tab straight away. Ordered some food and drinks which was bought out promptly and steaming hot. Lovely pub food and generous helping (the steak pie was amazing!) Service was fantastic and this is what will be bringing us back. Lovely to find a pub that was so welcoming.

From the outside it looks like a welcoming establishment. However, once i went in I instantly realised the opposite. Walked in with my wife and 2 young children and asked if they were still serving food. Their response was “we are fully booked” but as I looked around the place was completely empty and had so many tables available. And this was 4pm on a Saturday. So without questioning I walked out and started to question whether they were actually fully booked or denied us a table because of the colour of our skin.

Menu offering variations of dishes available for all. We had the Proper Steak Pie and Hunters chicken which both were amazing! Service was a tad slow but was busy which is understandable - well worth the wait and reasonable priced! Definitely recommend to friends and family!

Unfriendly staff turned up at 12:30 for lunch was turned away and said they had no bookings all day, when I could clearly see several open tables. Didn't even ask if we were willing to wait. Wouldn't bother.

I've been a few times in recent years (I grew up in Tickhill and know the pub from when it was a drinkers pub), the service was great. I had the Steak Pie, nice but slightly over cooked and also left under a heat lamp for too long sadly.

First time going and could not fault it one bit! Amazing food, big portions!

Excellent food ie Sunday roast gluten free with everything thing on the plate the same as a normal one brilliant service from entry to exit good atmosphere and vibe the only thing I could mention is perhaps better signage for disabled access to the premises would be helpful ie to use front door and not side door with steps otherwise keep doing things the same well done thanks for a good experience 👍🏻😊

1st time customers for Sunday lunch & the meal was absolutely beautiful & tasty roast beef family had turkey too. Great staff welcoming friendly and polite and attentive, but not over the top attentive, just the right balance. Will definitely return. Thank you, The Royal Oak. 10/10.

Very disappointed been before midweek excellent food went Sunday 6 o'clock different menu to midweek,meal cool looked like it had been reheated

Had an early Sunday roast at the weekend. Meat was lovely. Roast veg was burnt and old. Must have been leftover from Saturday. The steamed veg was very sparse and it was cold. Cauliflower cheese at an extra £4.50 was raw. Not going again.

What a place I'm gluten and dairy free, and to find some where that catered for you is great, the food is out standing now I find it I will be going back .

Went out with friends it the first time we been and it will not be the last its a wonderful place to eat and catch up with friends and best of all they gluten and dairy free for my wife.

We arrived on spec sometime after 2 on a Saturday afternoon and were surprised to find the place full of diners and only one table available. We were glad we took it as the meal was delicious, beautifully presented, and with quick, friendly and efficient service. We rounded it off with excellent coffee served in attractive stoneware cups and saucers - a nice, extra touch. My husband enjoyed his pint of Timothy Taylor's too. Altogether the Royal Oak was a great find. Thank you.

Lunch with former colleagues. Good food, served promptly. Good gluten free selection. Obliging host and server. Music rather loud given that it was lunchtime and clientele not noisy, but volume lowered without demur when asked. Will definitely visit again.

Chose food from the lunchtime menu which is cheaper than main menu but cheaper with slightly less options. However the food was well cooked and hot and served very quickly by friendly staff. Other diners appeared to be happy with their choices also. I would recommend to friends and family.
