Second visit to the Tudor Rose for dinner and not disappointed this time either. My wife had the mince & dumplings with mash & veg. Her verdict, perfect! Special mention was made for the veg. High praise indeed from Christine who is a bit of a gourmet when it comes to brassicas. My choice was chicken wing roulette with fries and salad. A novel idea of five chicken wings of varying degrees of spiciness. The wings were cooked to perfection, the meat just dropping off the bones. A bit more chilli at the top end of the scale wouldn't have come amiss for my taste but that's just personal taste. The desserts are humongous so if you are with a partner order one and ask for two spoons. We had one each last visit and consequently I couldn't finish my pint. The menu is limited because of the small kitchen, but what we've sampled so far is cooked to perfection. The chef changes the choices every day so a decent variety is available throughout the week. Every meal is priced under a tenner so two huge plates of bait for under twenty quid is definitely a bargain. All in all do yourself a favour and give the Tudor Rose a visit for a 'bit of bait and a gargle'. As they say "use it or lose it". Did I mention they keep a grand drop o' Guinness.

We called in on our walk to the end of Hadrians Wall. We wanted a drink and a rest! The landlady was so welcoming and friendly. She has only been there for three months and we wish her every success in her new venture. Served a great pint!

This is our local where we used to go for a few pints after work or sit out on the patio in the summer, but since it’s been taken over, it’s gone way downhill. It seems to be the new management’s mates that are always there and they’re all loud, brash chavs. I used to like this place, but having a few surrounded by people that have no social etiquette is not for me. Poor show, new management. Poor show.

Absolute JOKE of a pub. NEVER open between 12 noon and 1pm on a Saturday. Turned up 3 times on a Saturday lunchtime to find the door LOCKED, apparently because its WINDY! Limited food menu these days when they are open. Would NEVER go back. Hope they go BUST. Bring back the old landlord, who didn`t LIE to you on the phone, saying they open at 12, when they don`t!

I have been three times in a row and told there is no food on for one pathetic reason or another. My strong feeling is that it was during the very quiet off peak times and the manageress just couldn't be bothered to cook. It doesn't seem welcoming at all and the music was blasted right up when her daughter arrives from school so not good if you want a conversation. Locals seem to be treated okay though so if you are local enjoy!!!!

Absolutely appalling customer service! I suffer from IBS and needed to use the toilet approx 20 mins ago but got turned away by the lady behind the bar and told I had to buy a drink before I could use the toilet! To say I am angry is an understatement, would you turn away a young child with there parent or an old person for that matter! Disgusting service and I will be spreading the word!

If I could give this place a zero - I would. I can't express my shock that my husband (who has a serious medical condition) was turned away from using a TOILET (a basic human necessity) by a very rude member of staff causing him great distress. Not only was he turned away but was told in the process (and whilst in excruciating pain) that he must buy a drink if he wanted to use the facilities. DISGUSTING.Would a child or elderly person be forced to part with money if they were in the same predicament? I highly doubt it.I seriously suggest the member of staff in question receive some customer service training to learn some skills in basic human empathy.

Just enjoyed one of the tastiest Sunday pub lunches I’ve had in a while. After having read previous reviews I thought I would ask about takeaway as wife just out of hospital, very friendly lady on phone told me that was fine and to bring with me my own plates and something for the gravy. After a 5-10 min wait out came two hot plates of food (chef had heated up plates to keep dinner warm) and my jug of gravy. Pub has a nice welcoming feel once inside and staff are very friendly and chatty. Now to the food, beef that melted in the mouth, 2 puds, roasties, mash and plenty of fresh veg what more could you ask for. Looking forward to when wife is back on her feet so we can visit again.

I go to the Tudor for a pint and some craic and it ticks all the boxes. Recently refurbished it's warm, welcoming and friendly. The quiz night is fabulous and the Quiz Mistress, Anne, is a star. The curries are sumptuous and the range of drinks second to none. If karaoke floats your boat you're well catered for by the hilarious and engaging Graeme. And if you like a bit of Americana....well there's the Ginger Elvis. What's not to like?

My brother in law loves a quiz night when he comes to England so we headed to Tudor Rose as Tuesday night is £4.95 for curry & a drink followed by the quiz at 9.Previous reviews fairly slated the place but I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered chicken passanda, beef madras and I had chicken jalfrezi, meals arrived promptly were extremely good value for money and full of flavour. The bar staff were helpful and polite, next time my brother in law is home we will be heading back. Can't comment on the quiz yet!

Went tonight for a quick and cheap meal. Wish we hadn't bothered.Between 3 we ordered a starter platter, and 3 mains. After 10mins my friends main arrived? But no starter platter? I complained and was told Oh it's just being made- an hour after we ordered we received the starter platter. And I asked where the mains were- to be told "Oh we thought you wanted the starter first"-erm yes an hour ago and ideally before my friend had finished her main! Main courses came 1hr10mins after we ordered-and missing half of what we ordered. The waitresses haven't got a clue. There was only two tables in and 90% of the food is fried. Everything was just vile. I don't know what the chef is on but its not this planet. And obviously doesn't know how to run a kitchen. Never again!!!

We've lived locally for years and used to enjoy the cheap and cheerful vibe.Sadly after it was taken over the service and food is appalling. No customer service. Food is bad. I miss Giovanni! A group of us - (10 students) were in the area, hungry after a round of go karting at the local track and in desperate search of a pub lunch on a drizzly Tuesday afternoon. The Tudor Rose came recommended and what a find! The pub was almost empty and the staff were quick to accommodate our request for pushing some tables together. The waiter / chef at the restaurant is a wonderfully friendly Italian man who introduced himself and was very patient with our order. We all designed from the amazing value set menu - £6.45 for a 2 course lunch. The food is great, well seasoned, fresh Italian food. The portion sizes are very generous indeed and for such a large order the food did not take too long. We were all too full for pudding but if we are ever in the area again we will certainly be returning - thanks for a great afternoon!

Regularly eat here due to the great personal service from the staff and food that surpasses some of the more expensive traditional Italian restaurants in the locality in terms of quality. A genuine, experienced chef who puts a lot of care and effort into every dish.

this pub/restaurant came as quite a surprise we were warmly greeted and served by the owner who is genuinely an Italian chef and has quite a line of patter. as we called in on a Sunday we decided to have the Sunday roast which was very nice lots of thick sliced meat and a big bowl of veg piping hot and nicely cooked to accompany it. an absolute bargain at the price. we did not intend to have a pudding for afters but the meal was so nice we decided to have a sweet to finish it off. now my wife must be an expert on sticky toffee pudding having consumed heaven knows how many in loads of restaurants and the one presented to her was declared" the best ever" and having had the fudge cake I have too agree that the deserts here are brilliant. no mass produced freeze dried product here these are made by the owners wife who he proudly informed us is a pastry chef. for a local pub this really came as a surprise to us a warm welcome nice food and a nice crowd of locals made what was just a quick lunch into an occasion

If you like your pizza to be thin, crispy and full of flavour then Mamma Rosa is the place to eat. None of the gimmicks of the American pizza chains, just authentic Italian pizza done to perfection and served with a smile. The Tudor could do with a bit of a make-over, but the food, a separate business run by an Italian chef, is excellent.

Not good, first time myself and my wife visited and the only thing that was ok was the pot of tea I made myself. Seabass meal was Luke warm and my wife's ended up with the stomach cramps and made her break wind for the rest of the evening which was embarrassing. My chicken Milanese was laughable in the that it was burnt rock hard and tasted like a cheap chicken mcnuggett! not that I know what that is like and a few McDonalds type fries with scabby bit of dried lettuce. I can only compare it to cheap fast food. It was obvious to me that it was just straight from the freezer or something that was left previous and used on my plate . No way was it fresh at all. I just left it paid the ridiculous overprice bill and left. I should of said something but I didn't want to make a scene. Don't go and go elsewhere, Will not visit again.
