Pizza express in Gateshead

My daughter and 6 of her friends went for a birthday meal. I pre booked over the phone with Neil who was extremely helpful. My daughter and her friends had a fab time. Pizzas, dough balls and desserts were delicious she said. Top class service from start to finish. Thank you to all staff at pizza express in the metrocentre.

Came for dinner last night, the manager was so genuinely kind and accommodating, it was a really delightful experience. It was so busy as well but he made a fuss of our kids and was just lovely.

Lovely meal here tonight. Amazing service from Neil who was friendly and attentive, plus great with our little one. Delicious pizzas and nice relaxed atmosphere, 10/10 all round.

Absolutely amazing service from Neil! Went through everything in the allergy process and made sure I was comfortable with how it worked. Very attentive and always checking each part of our meal was good. Amazing pizza on the gluten free romana base too. All in all I couldn't have faulted the service or food in Pizza Express Metrocentre and we will definitely be back!

We absolutely understand that places are busy however we stood for 15 min totally ignored then the waiter finally half bothered walked past and said no tables for 45 min. How about a sign?! However what annoyed us was as we walked away the people behind us asked the same thing and he sat them down. We assume because there was two of us and four of them they would buy more.

Annual Post Christmas Shopping trip and a lovely visit to pizza express. Fabulous experience with fantastic service off Neil. He was very attentive and lovely with our children asking them all about there Christmas, thanks again ☺️

Terrible service terrible food terrible restaurant!!!! Felt like I was eating in Ian beales greasy spoon! Took them 10 minutes to acknowledge us and we had pre booked the table! Starter was laughable pizza dough not fresh and in general a load oh rubbish. Save yourself some money and get a McDonald’s

Totally robbed..£7.50 for two mini cokes,I would never ever go back..lure you in with pizza offer then stung for cokes x2 which more than the food..Not good, rip off..very very disappointing

Visited as saw a special offer board outside which said pizza and drink for £12 lunch offer. Reply good value although the can of coke poured into glass would have been nicer than just giving the can. Server was really friendly and really happy this restaurant did not add a service charge to the actual bill unlike Bella Italia did last week, so we tipped out of want not need! Pizza was really nice - restaurant was a little cold I think they turned the air con up as lot of people were sitting with coats on. Will definitely be back if the offer is on.

Had the pleasure of meeting Mark, the regional manager, today! He was very prompt in sitting us down, friendly and quite funny too. He served us throughout, could tell he was a bit rusty in serving as he didn’t check back or ask if we wanted any more drinks. Stick to management Mark, Emma & the team have it covered 🤭 Only joking, fabulous meal with my sister and niece, nothing is a bother when we go and they’re all so accommodating. Lovely staff every time. Food is always 10/10. I’m sure we’ll be back soon. Thanks Gateshead ☺️

Just had a terrible experience at this pizza express, we had a table booked for 2pm for 8 adults and 3 children, after ordering our meal we waited over 40mins for the food to arrive, when they finally brought meals to the table it was for the adults with two of the youngest left waiting, after another 5mins one childs meal arrived but still one missing, the young waitress was full of apologies and said they had taken this meal off the bill, this did not help the little one as by the time the meal finally arrived she was falling asleep, definitely will not be going back,

Popped in today at the metro centre for a break from the Christmas shopping. There was a queue but it didn’t take long to get a table. We had the burnt bbq ends on pizza and the hottest American as well as a Caesar salad. The pizzas were recommended by Joe our server who was very friendly, efficient and helpful, the pizzas were amazing. The Caesar salad was a little small for £15 and the Caesar sauce tasted just like salad cream, the pizzas were fantastic though!

Neil looked after us so well from start to finish. Really attentive service but unobtrusive and professional. Food delicious. Our favorite place to eat in the Metrocentre.

Pizza express is a joke! Express! Far from it, took over 40 mins wait for pizzas to come out, there was plenty staff around pizza ovens...wondered if they were mostly for delivery. Pizzas mediocre standard and too pricey. Waiter was very friendly but will not be returning anytime soon

What a fantastic visit a friend and I had to the restaurant today. We both had babies in prams with us, and the staff carefully considered the best place to seat us to make this work for us. The staff went out of their way to provide things for the babies and made me feel really comfortable when feeding my baby (basically by not addressing it at all and continuing the great service!). When my friend got her baby’s bottle out, a member of staff came straight over to offer to warm it, which was greatly appreciated. The baby changing station was great, too. We loved our sloppy giuseppe pizza and the new crispy potatoes, too! All in all, two very happy customers!

School visit carried out today, friendly staff, great atmosphere, wonderful with our children. Thank you very much for your time spent in your restaurant greatly appreciated. Hadrian school 😊

Came in for an evening meal and the service was amazing. Our server Izzy was bubbly, very welcoming and accommodating to all our requests. The food was lovely and we didn’t have to wait long at all.

Joe was fantastic even though they were very busy! His service was absolutely spot on! Food was great and really enjoyed everything about it.

Soggy - slow - not trustworthy It’s called pizza express but we had to wait for more than 30mins for the pizza although the store was not busy. So if you are not having ample of time, this might not be the place for you. I ordered a romana pizza which is supposed to be a thin and crispy crust but it was soggy and the toppings were rare. When leaving the restaurant, we saw that there’s a promotion on going but were not informed and was charged the full price despite meeting the criteria. So make sure you look at the signs if you were to come.

My family & I had a really enjoyable time at Pizza Express this evening! Food was lovely and the staff were very attentive. Thank you.

I had a pizza last Friday and it was horrible . Slow service. The mixed up my pizza with a different one and I told them about it and it took them ages to bring the pizza I ordered and it is absolutely disgusting and irating Will never go there again

i am someone who also works in the centre, stopped in with a colleague for our lunch break, served by a lovely gentleman called Joe, excellent service food was delectable would 100% visit again

We had a birthday celebration for my brother and were very kindly accommodated in a quiet area, so that sensory overload issues did not arise. Food as ever, top notch, and so reliable on gluten-free. Love the localised loo signs too. Thank you team Gateshead. 👍

Being my order the starter was forgotten. The pizza wasn't exactly big and had few toppings. The whole thing with a drink costs 12 pounds. Too much in my opinion. Given that Pizza Express is a restaurant chain in England, I expect better standards and better service. Completely different at Pizzahut in England. There is a buffet at lunchtime with a drink.

Visited on Saturday 14/9 with my wife we where seated and left menus then completely ingnored at least two other tables off 4 came in after us they got drink and orders taken ! We got up and left terrible customer service

This used to be my favourite pizza place. All seems to have changed. A 40 minute wait after starters is not acceptable. Slowest service ever. Not enough serving staff and those who were there didn't care. Pizza toppings were scare . You shouldn't be allowed to charge £16.00 for a pizza that has the smallest amount of topping ever. Won't be back.

I came here yesterday for lunch. I got the Florentina pizza. I now have food poisoning (salmonella) which i can only put down to the egg on my pizza. My boyfriend had a pepperoni pizza and was fine, just me poorly. I would recommend checking the products that are served so nobody else has to cope with getting sick. Servers are welcoming but wouldn’t return to any pizza express now after having to go doctors after eating here.

Excellent lunch yesterday in Pizza Express Metrocentre. Served by Eva Who was really welcoming, very efficient and gave great advice on the menu.

Staff chatting not aware of customers standing . Asked for all ordered food to come at the same time didn’t happen . Had to ask for cutlery . The large pizza ordered was very dry . Was not worth the money at all .

Great place for lunch whilst shopping. Book a table before and you will not have to wait. Service was friendly and efficient; food was excellent. Pay on the app and it's really quick to leave to get back to the shops! Don't understand the low rating, it is a nice place to eat.

We brought a Year 6 class to Pizza Express as a treat and it couldn't have been any nicer! Neil and his team were so efficient and helpful, and the food was delicious!

Brought our school for a Pizza making experience. The manager (Neil) and head chef (Patrick) were absolutely amazing, so helpful and friendly. Thank you so much to all at Pizza Express from Harry Watts Academy Harraton.

Booked a table for l.30 for lunch , arrived five minutes early and we were shown to our table straight away the waitress took our orders and was very polite and gave good service, unfortunately when our Pizzas arrived they were cold , my wife had half eaten her pizza and I had eaten three quarters of my pizza ,and I complained to the manager and even asked him to feel how cold it was he agreed , my in-laws had only eaten a small amount of theirs due to the fact that they were not enjoying them as they were cold . The manager did not seem to care and offered no apology , he did warm my in-laws pizza up and they were better . As for customer service the manager needs to go on a training course, he offered no apology , and just ignored us when we were leaving. Clearly our waitress who was good had not been trained by this ignorant manager.

Once again the food was amazing and the staff were brilliant. Lovely chat and they always remember your face! This place always has and always will be a favourite for me 😊

Love this branch, Neil and the staff always look after us They make sure they have fresh chocolate fudge cake for us every friday as they make us an off menu dessert. The best service, great food and environment for the family

Ordered gluten free pasta and dough balls for our son, he thoroughly enjoyed it. The waitress was super helpful too as she was also coeliac. Thank you for making our first meal out since diagnosis, easy and relaxed.

Lovely atmosphere, we’ve not been to a pizza express in a while and thought we’d try again, definitely did not disappoint, we had a lovely welcome upon arrival by the managers Neil and Rebecca and was seated straight away with no trouble, our food was lovely and hot, quick and attentive service by our server Ruby! Will definitely be returning to this pizza express when visiting the metro centre again in the near future!

Fantastic food and we were so well looked after. Nothing was a problem even though we were a party of 20. Will be back!

First time eating, couldn't have asked for a better experience. Neil, our server made us feel welcome and confortable. My partner with severe anxiety whilst out eating had the easiest experience. Very appreciated and will 100% be back.

After shopping on a Saturday evening we decided to get some what we thought would be ‘quick’ food as the restaurant name would suggest, before heading home so chose to eat at pizza express as it also looked quite quiet, maybe 6 or so tables filled. As we were waiting to be seated a Deliveroo driver pushed in front of us and the member of staff rushed over to serve them first and ignored us standing there and then walked away without asking if we wanted a table. We were eventually seated at a table with no cutlery and with rubbish all over the floor under our feet. After ordering two pizzas and a kids meal, the food proceeded to take 50 minutes to come to the table! The portions were absolutely tiny and we left feeling barely less hungry than when we went in! It was also very expensive for what you’re actually getting. The food took so long to come out that we had to leave before my son’s dessert came because it was getting too close to his bed time. It was also very hard to catch any waiters attention and they didn’t smile once. Overall a very poor experience that has made sure I won’t be going to a pizza express ever again.

Pizza Express is the most overpriced pizza restaurant we have ever been to! How can they even justify charging those prices for a thin base made of flour, and an even thinner covering of tomato sauce and almost invisible toppings! Not worth the money. We left feeling almost as hungry as we were when we arrived! (This review isn't just about this particular branch of Pizza Express or about the lovely staff - it is Pizza Express prices everywhere.)

The food was ok however not filling and very expensive! The soft drinks price Vs what other venues offer is shocking for the amount you get here. The gluten free portions are not fit for an adult to consume and this is simply unacceptable... The food was very expensive and not particularly impressive. The bathroom was not the cleanest either. It is nice you can pay through the app. Not the best atmosphere. It was empty and the upstairs portion of the restaurant was closed.

Brilliant service and food was up to the roof in quality I recommend for family and friends very nice staff!
