This used to be my favourite pizza place. All seems to have changed. A 40 minute wait after starters is not acceptable. Slowest service ever. Not enough serving staff and those who were there didn't care. Pizza toppings were scare . You shouldn't be allowed to charge £16.00 for a pizza that has the smallest amount of topping ever. Won't be back.

I came here yesterday for lunch. I got the Florentina pizza. I now have food poisoning (salmonella) which i can only put down to the egg on my pizza. My boyfriend had a pepperoni pizza and was fine, just me poorly. I would recommend checking the products that are served so nobody else has to cope with getting sick. Servers are welcoming but wouldn’t return to any pizza express now after having to go doctors after eating here.

Excellent lunch yesterday in Pizza Express Metrocentre. Served by Eva Who was really welcoming, very efficient and gave great advice on the menu.

Staff chatting not aware of customers standing . Asked for all ordered food to come at the same time didn’t happen . Had to ask for cutlery . The large pizza ordered was very dry . Was not worth the money at all .

Food cold when it arrived, the 4 dips had spilled all over the food and leaked through the bag

Extremely late and arrived extremely cold. Very little topping on pizza. Won’t order again.

Great place for lunch whilst shopping. Book a table before and you will not have to wait. Service was friendly and efficient; food was excellent. Pay on the app and it's really quick to leave to get back to the shops! Don't understand the low rating, it is a nice place to eat.

We brought a Year 6 class to Pizza Express as a treat and it couldn't have been any nicer! Neil and his team were so efficient and helpful, and the food was delicious!

Brought our school for a Pizza making experience. The manager (Neil) and head chef (Patrick) were absolutely amazing, so helpful and friendly. Thank you so much to all at Pizza Express from Harry Watts Academy Harraton.

Booked a table for l.30 for lunch , arrived five minutes early and we were shown to our table straight away the waitress took our orders and was very polite and gave good service, unfortunately when our Pizzas arrived they were cold , my wife had half eaten her pizza and I had eaten three quarters of my pizza ,and I complained to the manager and even asked him to feel how cold it was he agreed , my in-laws had only eaten a small amount of theirs due to the fact that they were not enjoying them as they were cold . The manager did not seem to care and offered no apology , he did warm my in-laws pizza up and they were better . As for customer service the manager needs to go on a training course, he offered no apology , and just ignored us when we were leaving. Clearly our waitress who was good had not been trained by this ignorant manager.

Once again the food was amazing and the staff were brilliant. Lovely chat and they always remember your face! This place always has and always will be a favourite for me 😊

Love this branch, Neil and the staff always look after us They make sure they have fresh chocolate fudge cake for us every friday as they make us an off menu dessert. The best service, great food and environment for the family

Fantastic food and atmosphere as always. Superb value for money and really friendly staff. A little gem of a restaurant. We'll be back again very soon and always recommend it to our family and friends for it's relaxed atmosphere. Overall, a great eating experience.

Ordered gluten free pasta and dough balls for our son, he thoroughly enjoyed it. The waitress was super helpful too as she was also coeliac. Thank you for making our first meal out since diagnosis, easy and relaxed.

Lovely atmosphere, we’ve not been to a pizza express in a while and thought we’d try again, definitely did not disappoint, we had a lovely welcome upon arrival by the managers Neil and Rebecca and was seated straight away with no trouble, our food was lovely and hot, quick and attentive service by our server Ruby! Will definitely be returning to this pizza express when visiting the metro centre again in the near future!

Came in for my son's 7th birthday. Manager Neil couldn't have been more helpful or amazing!! He made everything so special for my son, and was so incredible to help organise it all. Thank you to all the staff!! And food as always was amazing!!

Lovely service and amazing food too

First time eating, couldn't have asked for a better experience. Neil, our server made us feel welcome and confortable. My partner with severe anxiety whilst out eating had the easiest experience. Very appreciated and will 100% be back.

Ease of ordering, paying ect. Was super simple to add additional toppings to my pizza, effective app as it automatically add the £10 of pizza.

After shopping on a Saturday evening we decided to get some what we thought would be ‘quick’ food as the restaurant name would suggest, before heading home so chose to eat at pizza express as it also looked quite quiet, maybe 6 or so tables filled. As we were waiting to be seated a Deliveroo driver pushed in front of us and the member of staff rushed over to serve them first and ignored us standing there and then walked away without asking if we wanted a table. We were eventually seated at a table with no cutlery and with rubbish all over the floor under our feet. After ordering two pizzas and a kids meal, the food proceeded to take 50 minutes to come to the table! The portions were absolutely tiny and we left feeling barely less hungry than when we went in! It was also very expensive for what you’re actually getting. The food took so long to come out that we had to leave before my son’s dessert came because it was getting too close to his bed time. It was also very hard to catch any waiters attention and they didn’t smile once. Overall a very poor experience that has made sure I won’t be going to a pizza express ever again.

Pizza Express is the most overpriced pizza restaurant we have ever been to! How can they even justify charging those prices for a thin base made of flour, and an even thinner covering of tomato sauce and almost invisible toppings! Not worth the money. We left feeling almost as hungry as we were when we arrived! (This review isn't just about this particular branch of Pizza Express or about the lovely staff - it is Pizza Express prices everywhere.)

The food was ok however not filling and very expensive! The soft drinks price Vs what other venues offer is shocking for the amount you get here. The gluten free portions are not fit for an adult to consume and this is simply unacceptable... The food was very expensive and not particularly impressive. The bathroom was not the cleanest either. It is nice you can pay through the app. Not the best atmosphere. It was empty and the upstairs portion of the restaurant was closed.

Brilliant service and food was up to the roof in quality I recommend for family and friends very nice staff!

All cold, £45 for an order that all needed reheating.

Ordered food at 16:40 didn’t arrive till after 7 food was stone cold and vegan pizza was put in wrong box . For the price it’s definitely not worth it

The delivery was over an hour late. The food was cold. After I ate a dough ball (which I ordered gluten free) it was quite obvious it wasn’t gluten free, so was poisoned too! The guy I spoke to from the restaurant was very friendly but couldn’t help much. Not a great experience to be honest

We took a large group of Brownies today and it was fantastic. Neil was so helpful from when I first emailed to book right through to everything today. The food was great and all the other staff were lovely too. The girls and leaders all had a brilliant time!

Me and my husband visited during our Christmas shopping day. Seemed relatively quiet so thought it would be ideal for a quick lunch. Another 2 groups of people and ourselves waited in the entrance for quite some time, I initially thought people were debating wether to go in, however it transpired they were waiting to be seated. We were seated quite abruptly, menus slapped down on the table and that was that. Ordering was straightforward and fairly prompt. We ordered starters and a pizza to share. Food arrived in good time. Wasn't overly impressed with the food but it is what it is. The service was where the main issue lay. Having already witnessed another table complain I gave the benefit of the doubt. Our original waiter left and we were then served by someone else. We sat with empty glasses for the duration of our visit, waited for extras that we never received and in the end asked for the bill, again something we never received. Luckily my husband downloaded the app and managed to access our bill which we paid remotely. I'm not even sure anyone noticed us leaving. People were being turned away even though it was half empty. Tables were left dirty throughout the visit. All in all not the best experience

Lovely lunch. Great place to take young kids, the staff are great with them and the changing facilities are good. There's always a deal in the app so make sure you have that too

Didnt receive order - still waiting for response/refund after 3day was "at restaurant" but when I was calling they kept saying the driver had left, I was told to contact Just Eat as it wasnt their responsibility after it had left restaurant!

We waited outside for around 15 minutes. When the waitress finally came over she told us that they weren’t taking any more tables due to being understaffed. Fair enough but why make us wait so long before telling us? Someone could’ve ran over and let us know or even put a sign up at the front

We called into pizza express in the metro centre on our way to Newcastle airport and my husband was welcomed extremely well by Shabba - a super, enthusiastic, chatty and knowledgeable about his job, menu, pizza express app waiter. We love going to pizza express all over the country, food is always reliable and great quality, today Shabba made it even better - just couldn't be more helpful, well done, we will be back!

Me and my ‘situation ship’ went for lunch today and it was great, the two main people serving us were so friendly, efficient, and catering to any needs we had. Don’t be put off at all by these harsh reviews, we had nduja and normal dough balls for starter, and two romana pizzas (which were huge!!) and both were great tasting. Would recommend!!!

Came to Pizza express for a quick lunch with my mam and 2 year old daughter. An ideal choice for us as a family. Food for me and my mam was excellent, Francesca our waitress was super helpful with my mam helping her food recommendations. She was also great with my little one, brought her colouring stuff and the food came nice and quick for her too! My daughter loved the babichinno and brownie, 3 courses for £7.75 and it kept her entertained! Ideal little family lunch out!

No discount lunch menu or anything, pizzas were basic and expensive at about £15-£17+ a normal sized thin base pizza, pasta dishes of which there was only a few were also about £13-£15. Absolute madness, the bill for a couple with 2 starters (a bruschetta and dough balls) and a pasta and pizza cost £60+. Absolute rip off, go somewhere else. You can recreate the food experience by buying a frozen pizza, running it over in your car, overcooking some pasta and drowning it in cream then set fire to your wallet.
