Azotea.

Food was uninspired (no garnish, no seasoning), but I simply cannot fathom how, when we were the only people there, it took 45 minutes to make egg on toast. Seriously.

Patatas cocidas, no par no crujiente. Verdes y el brócoli tenía demasiado ajo. Tuvimos que pedir sal y pimienta, aparentemente solo una serie en la planta! Luz wc en hombres va después de unos 3-5 minutos, así que dejamos en la oscuridad.

Prior to visiting London I did some research on restaurants offering more remarkable gluten free dining options and came upon Truscott Arms. I haven't been able to have fish and chips for several years due to the batter, and was excited to add this to our dining list.My husband and I trekked over from South Kensington on a rainy Monday evening and it was worth the trip. We chose to sit downstairs in the pub, as the upstairs was rather quiet. The pub trivia kept us entertained and the staff was personable through the meal.We both ordered the fish and chips, him a beer and a cider for me. It was very reassuring that the standard batter used was gluten free - really eliminates the concern of a mix up. The fish was crispy and nicely cooked and the chips perfectly done, but found the mushy peas rather bland.Overall, we enjoyed our meals and would return again.

Very easy to book online with immediate confirmation and a follow up email the day before the booking. You are allocated 2 hours which as a party of 5 was spot on. The food was really good and the food was served on big platters except for the gluten free which was already plated up. The food was great and the gluten free was great too. The portions were very generous so much so they packed up a doggie bag for us. The staff were very friendly, helpful and service was very prompt. The dining area is upstairs. Overall a great place to eat and no issues if you need gluten free as the menu is clearly marked and there is a good choice.

So I researched and researched the best place for a roast and finally I've found it! The place is welcoming, staff are sooooo helpful and made my boyfriends birthday really special! We have the lamb and the pork and it was GIGANTIC! There is no way anyone could complain about the portion size. There is nothing worse that when you want more roast potatoes and there are none! The roast is served on a platter and so you feel like you are a home as it has to be served. Feel so happy after a fab roast and definitely will be going back. Make sure you book and I would advise a table upstairs as its more atmospheric and it's a beautiful room. So mission accomplished! The Truscott Arms is the best roast in town!!!

We went to the Truscott Arms for Father's Day Sunday roast. The beef was super chewy. To make it worse, they gave everyone the bluntest cutlery to try and get through it and the potatoes were undercooked. Not what you expect for £18 in a place that has the feel of any given local pub.Having been given warning by my brother that the vegetarian option was previously not recommended by a friend, I went for a salmon, cucumber and horseradish starter. This was quite literally the most tasteless thing I have ever eaten. The salmon was Luke-warm and the horseradish had the texture of flour.Because I asked for the salmon starter as a main, the staff put two starters to the bill, making it almost as much as everyone else's sub-standard roast. The only reason I didn't complain was because my dad was there and it was Father's Day.Serious disappointing and eye wateringly over priced, avoid at all costs!

Came in with a group of friends on a warm Wednesday night. Absolutely loved the beers, but that's about it! The service was slow, only one team member serving, being the only customer on the bar, had to wait about 10mins while the barman did a few dispense orders... Ordered some snacks, which were pretty quick to arrive at the table, but lacked seasoning, we didn't get any condiments not cutlery! All in all a bit disappointed by my recent visit, the place didn't live up to its reputation!

In London you often seem to either get extremely friendly service but lacking in quality or rude service but at least they're efficient and attentive. At The Truscott Arms you shouldn't expect overly polite waiters, but you should expect having drinks, food and your bill on time.Twice now we have been for their roast dinner. The first time it was just me and my partner, the roast was delicious. The second was a large table of 5 and the roast was still lovely. They do give you a bit of an overload on the vegetables but they are incredibly flavoursome and the meat is cooked so well. I especially love how it is served; a large platter for you to pick and choose what you want on your plate.

I live near the Truscott and whilst I'd been before I hadn't tried the Sunday roast so booked the family in last Sunday. We arrived on time; there were 6-7 staff members behind the bar; only a couple were occupied but we were ignored anyway - we asked about the reservation to be told someone would be with us (this was all conducted in a pretty charmless if not rude manner - the bar staff don't smile; I think they think they're too cool.....). There was no table available as the earlier party were "taking their time". We were seated in the bar which didn't bother us; the table wasn't set and we had to ask for menus and ask to order. We ordered two beef roasts which arrived quickly (served on a shared platter). The meat was very good - very little marl and served with a lovely helping of pulled beef. The roast potatoes had been deep fried and were delicious - floury and tasty. The veg was below average; watery dark green cabbage served sloppily, some ok broccoli and a lot of carrot chunks (only way to describe them!). Dessert was not good; I ordered a warm white chocolate moose; it was a not warm loose foam served in a flat bowl; the texture was revolting and it didn't match the description at all. A very professional American member of staff replaced it with the cream doughnuts - these were tasty (no cream in one and a squirt on the edge of the other) but mis-paired with apple sauce. On a positive note it's a great looking spot, they have a good selection of on tap beers (best in area), the G&Ts are good as is the tea. The quality of the Sunday lunch food and service need work but both are very resolvable; that wouldn't bother me if it wasn't for the attitude of the bar staff - they're the face of the place - they need to work on their attitude. I would have no inclination to return there again.

The food when it arrived was great, but it did take a long time to arrive. The gazpacho I had was absolutely delicious. The roasts are served on big platters, instead of individual plates. While this makes it look great it can bring some confusion. There was lamb, pork and beef on one big platter. People had ordered beef medium rare, rare etc and it wasn't immediately obvious which was which. While we sought confirmation from the waiters the food just sat there going cold. It's a lovely building, numerous floors, all light, airy and inviting. Would I go there again - yes, but not in a big group and not if I had any time constraints.

Fantastic food and setting, whether you choose the quieter upstairs dining area (reservations recommended) or the energetic pub you see upon entering. We ate upstairs in the beautifully decorated 2nd floor dining room. Stars of the night included the asparagus with hen's egg, the pigeon (delish!) and the sole. This is the 2nd time I've eaten at the pub and both times I've been extremely pleased. The GF fish and chips are flakey, melt in your mouth wonderful and the mashed peas are a surprisingly good accompaniment to both. Out in Maida Vale, this pub is gorgeous, stretching over 5 floors, all packed with character. We initially chose this place as we had a coeliac in our group - almost every item on the menu comes with a gluten free option.Staff were attentive, and food was unlike any pub food I've had before - small but tasty portions, dressed up very nicely. It must also be added that they offer a wide range of craft beers - not uncommon for a pub, but perhaps an unexpected combination with such quality food. With the emphasis on gastronomy, whilst maintaining its pubby character, I'm looking forward to heading back.

Delicious meal. We ordered the three meats: pork, beef, and lamb. They were presented together on a large platter with copious portions o potatoes, vegetables, and Yorkshire pudding. Fantastic! A friend of mine with coeliac's was visiting over a weekend so we decided to head out in search of gluten free fish & chips, and I found numerous recommendations online for this place. Unfortunately when we arrived we were told they had run out of the GF flour. I was able to get normal fish & chips, and my friend ordered just a bowl of chips. The batter was flavourless, genuinely the blandest fish batter I have ever tasted, and the fish was over cooked and dry, so luckily my friend didn't miss out on anything. The chips are enormous, way too big to be nice even in theory, just gimmicky and different at the expense of taste. And this plate of disappointment comes at an extortionate price of £16.50.The staff were nice and helpful, pointed us to a table where a group were waiting to get seated in the upstairs restaurant when we arrived and the pub was full so we were able to grab their seats within minutes, and the drinks were fine (can't easily mess up a G&T) but that didn't help much when the food was sub-standard even for a pub.

Both visits we have spent an afternoon in the pub area on the ground floor, having lunch and a beer or two and then a coffee afterwards.I can't fault the service and food. In particular the attention to detail in the menu for gluten free diners (and drinkers). Fish and chips were lovely, as was a quinoa salad, that was adapted slightly for my friend, with no hassle at all. How this place can be called a gastropub is beyond me. The menu is small, not very inventive and the kitchen is not really good at all. I ordered fish and chips and had to send it back. The panage was so hard that it was impossible to cut, the fish inside was dry and the chunky fries must have been refried. Apparently this gastropub is one of Britain's best. We went there as we had seen the place from walking by many times before and it was always quite busy. I guess the busy comes from the drinking/pub downstairs - but definitely NOT from the kitchen. The facilities and rooms are very nice, but the service team is not coordinated well. We were asked about allergies twice (well, i personally think it's pretentious anyway to ask about allergies as I know what I'm allergic to, and once we chose dishes they didn't even say "that is compatible with your allergies...so the question is just facade...). The menu is very short, and we were told the menu downstairs and upstairs is the same. All dishes, and there aren't many, are pseudo-gastro noveau-hip "conventional" dishes - simple stuff made sounding fancy with some trendy ingredients. Not what I personally like and not what I'd expect from a "regular" gastro pub. Anyway,We had a potatoe soup (which was cold), and a egg-esparagues (main portion, not starter portion). The olives with the drinks were a whopping 3 GBP (way too expensive), and the egg-esparagus was brought as a starter portion. It was: (hold on!!!) - 3 esparagus and a poached egg, for something like 16 GBP. CRAZY. I complained, and the first waitress couldn't give me an answer. the second waitress then came and said they sent a starter portion. (apart from the mistake - how could they serve 3 esp and a poached egg for something like 6 or 8 gbp as a starter!!). They then said they'd bring me another portion - so I had something like 7 esparagues and two poached eggs (no bred served along to eat the spilled poached egg) for 16 GBP. Crazy! We did get a desert for free, but the desert was decorated on a huge plate and was quite literally 1.5 strawberries chopped up with some meringue and a small ice cream. Also disappointing - if I had to pay for it. Will not go back again for food, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. sorry! One of my worst dining experiences. My suggestion to the team: Halve your prices, and double your portions, and get your cooking right. sorry!

Fancied a Sunday lunch out with a friend, and checked there were veggie options available. Firstly, there was training going on and nobody to seat us. We got a drink and found a table downstairs, nothing too painful. Then we had to wait to be served, during which time we had seen the huge plates of veg and yorkshires and thought we were in for a good, hearty meal. When we were finally served I selected the veggie option from the same roast mains list, which was baked aubergine. When it arrived, I was horrified - the portion was priced at 12 pounds and was not much bigger than a 50p piece and cold. I was absolutely disgusted!! On paying, I made my feelings clear and was told I should have picked a main as the chef can be quite creative?! This WAS on the mains list! Eating out with food intolerances can be stressful at the best of times. Finding this gem in Maida Vale thanks to an article about eating GF in London was a real treat. I met with a friend for dinner, and having so many options on a menu was a delight. The waitress was really helpful in checking with the chef about the presence of a few other foods I am intolerant to, and made ordering stress-free and easy. I highly enjoyed the grilled mackerel salad, and my friend's chicken salad looked equally tasty. Not only could I eat it, but it was a surprising and refreshing combination of flavours that were truly original. We both enjoyed the chocolate mousse with icecream for dessert - not technically a mousse as the French would define it, as it was a bit denser, but delicious nonetheless. Their wine list was excellent and I was delighted to be able to recommend a Waipara Pinot Noir to my French friend.

It is really surprising to see the mixed reviews about The Truscott Arms and goes to show that opinions are truly subjective.I ate here this weekend. I thought the service was nigh on impeccable. From the minute we walked in the door till the minute we left. The service was unfussy yet attentive and very accommodating. We had the roast and it was a decent roast. The bonus here is that the restaurant makes the effort to make gluten free options available. They also have a wide range of gluten free beers which, for my dining partner who is coeliac, was refreshing to see. It has been a while since we sat down to a meal without the worry of being ill afterwards. I commend the Truscott Arms for making so many gluten free options available. If only other bars/restaurants could made this effort. It wasn't the cheapest roast I have had but it was great and I liked the fact they served my lamb up two-ways. It is quite a trendy place but the staff were down to earth and there were no airs and graces. First of all, the menu. £59 for four courses. You have to have four courses. Or six courses for £79. It's like a Swiss hotel in 1985. Second, the food. Where to begin...it takes a special kind of talent to turn delicious creatures such as quail, mackerel and so forth into artfully arranged plates of utter horror. From the outset we were unsettled by amuse-bouches that were not actually very nice, and thereafter it got worse. Half cooked duck egg in an artichoke soup with parsnip crisps. A mushroom creation that was the stuff of nightmares. The mackerel, ye gods, the mackerel. Neither raw nor cooked, an oily strip of fish on a plate. It was like being a judge on a very expensive episode of Master Chef. The staff were nice, the booze was fine, but this ranks as one of the worst meals I have had in living memory. Awful.

The Truscott Arms takes great pride in it's Best Roast award however it failed to ring any bells for me. I love a good Sunday roast and for the price and acclaim, it just didn't deliver. You can't fault the presentation - it looks great however when compared to a lot of roasts out there - it doesn't offer great value for money (£18pp). I've had better roast potatoes from Aunt Bessie and the vegetables were poor. Gravy very watery. Meat was well cooked and tasted great. Asked for service charge to be removed due to waiting 10 mins for our drinks, in fact the food arrived first. Service was below average and there wasn't much of an atmosphere. A shame. I was so excited to visit after visiting for lunch last year and having a good experience. My advice - get back onto Google and find a better roast offering.

The food at the Truscott Arms just gets better and better. To be fair, the food has always been good but it has gone from good gastro pub to fine dining without a massive hike in prices. Historically, the service had been a little slow but they seemed to have upped their game both on the food and service. The waiters were very attentive and the courses were well paced. If this place was in Mayfair you would probably have to wait 5 months for a reservation. I can't wait to return and hope they keep the menu fresh by changing the dishes for us regulars. Good range of gluten free bottled beers too.Cannot fault this place in any way. Will definitely come again next time we're in London.

Really like this pub. I was taken here for a Valentines day lunch and it was very good. The starters were tasty but not over-bearing in size whereas the roast dinners were huge but totally yummy! We have only eaten in the pub bit downstairs rather than the proper restaurant but if that is anything to go by then it will be very good too.

Friday night you walk in and your senses are bombarded with every positive feature a pub should possess! Laughter, chatter, staff hustling and buzzing around, pretty young things celebrating the end of a pointless week! The euro-friendly waitress greets you and when checking the reservations gets your irish hosts name wrong.....apparently she never read Death of A Naturalist and calls him SEEmus. Expectations of a similarly buzzing dining room are dashed instantly as there is only 1 other table occupied. It doesn't get any better I'm afraid.I'm not a fan of pubs with restaurants....they're confusing. Pubs in restaurants yes but pubs with separate restaurants are infuriating. How should you dress, what should you drink, is it OK to slouch because you're tired at the end of what seemed like the busiest week of the year? The Truscott Arms is similarly confused. Even the name on door is confusing. Born 1983. What does it mean? It used to be one of the few pubs with a restaurant which wasn't confused but a recent overhaul has left it peddling white table-cloths, leather armchairs and canapés. Who goes to a pub for amuse bouche? The room was not how I remembered it from 2 years ago when it just felt cosy and welcoming.... like a slightly calmer extension of the pub so that you could eat and talk at the same time. Nope...they've gone all highbrow. The staff were attentive and very friendly but somewhat aloof. I didnt want my sauce brought to the table in a separate jug and then poured over the dish. I just wanted it served in one go and plenty of it to make me feel satisfied. I didn't want to feel like I was in an episode of masterchef and I certainly am not Marcus Wareing. In fact, the owners should take a leaf out of Greg's book and at this time of year, give their customers a a great big foodie cuddle....not a tickle! The menu reads well but ultimately the dishes lack depth. You don't have much choice... either pay for 4 courses or 6 and when they arrive and you've eaten them down in one mouthful, be prepared to go home hungry. If I'd wanted fine dining I'd have gone into town and I'm sure I would have been a lot happier. There's nothing wrong with the restaurant, there's nothing wrong with the dining room and there's nothing wrong with the food. You just might not find anything right!

I'm used to getting a slab of meat and some watery veg for Sunday Roasts at pubs/ restaurants etc. so this was a great treat. I had the Roast beef which was beautifully cooked - all the trimmings including gluten free gravy and Yorkshire pudding. The general menu also looked great. The waiting staff were very attentive and the atmosphere was great. I went with someone who is not coeliac and they thought everything was of a high standard, too. Highly recommended!

Very dissapointing experience. We had our table at the bar area and it was absolutely hectic with everyone waiting for a table standing behind you with prams and dogs and waiter pushing you trying to squeeze between prams and trying to step over dog's leads. I couldn't hear anything it was so noisy! The roast was average, pork was just pure fat, potatoes hard to bite in. Next time I want to dish up for myself I'll eat at home. £18 for a roast where you have to dish up yourself!!!! There was 5 of us and the roast arrived in two platters, one for 2 people(gluten free) and one for 3 people but the size of them was exactly the same. So it's extremely overpriced considering we only got 4 roast worth of food but paid for 5.

The food is good but tiny portions and very expensive. Dining with friends we ordered a bottle of white with our starter. It was warm. By the time it came back from the freezer we had been seated for half an hour ! Half way through our main I ordered a bottle of red which turned up 10 minutes later when we had finished. The staff were insensitive to my obvious frustration. Oh and we had to ask for bread despite all having empty side plates. The staff are just not that interested. If you have the appetite of a mouse and don't like wine then this restaurant is perfect.

The food is great! The Truscott Arms really is a nice place to go and eat. This was my second visit, we had breakfast/brunch on our minds (which they serve until 2pm). We had eggs Benedict and Florentine and Gluten Free sausages with coffee for around £10 per person. The Food was great, however,This is my only criticism I know it was a Saturday morning, but the place was full of unmanaged children, not crying just playing and screaming (just like when you go past a playground). It was just so noisy, and as the noise increased everyone had to speak louder, even the waiters had to shout to take our orders. The food and venue deserves a 'very good/Excellent' but this visit was so stressful due to the noise. I will of course, definitely go back again, maybe at night where children's parties are few and far between. Just to mention, amazingly The Truscott Arms offers a mind-blowing amount of Gluten Free food and beers Brilliant!

I had wanted to visit the truscott arms for some time as i heard it had many gluten free dishes and i wasn't disappointed!! As a coeliac i find it a struggle to find food that is suitable in restaurants but nearly every item listed on the bar menu is marked gluten free. I decided to choose the gluten free fish and chips as finding somewhere that does this is very difficult in London. When the dish came out it looked like a small portion but when tasting it its so rich and tasty that it was the right amount; the batter was lovely and crispy and the chips were delicious, the pea and mint puree was lovely too, it cost £14 for that dish but it was a lovely treat and was fantastic quality and was assembled with care and attention. Definitely worth a visit for a treat and i will be visiting again.

I lived around the corner from this pub for many years but had never visited - the competition used to be high in this corner of Maida Vale.A friend booked a table for 6 of us & I arrived a little early. Staff were immediately attentive even though our table wasn't ready. It was busy with ladies lunching, couples, friends and young families. I had a drink at the bar until my friends arrived. The set-up in this pub - certainly on a Sunday lunchtime - is definitely for dining rather than drinking.I watched giant platters of yorkshire puddings, slabs of beef and perfectly cooked vegetables float by.Once we'd all arrived we were shown to our table on the 3rd floor! 5 of us ordered the beef and one the lamb - full Sunday roast. Thankfully we skipped starters as our huge platters arrived c.20 mins later (we assumed cooked to order), everything was perfectly cooked. The yorkshires were big, crisp and fluffy, the vegetables tasty and still had the right amount of bite & the beef was perfectly cooked, rare and gererously sliced. It was a small beef mountain - with more than enough for 4 slices each! All served with generous jugs of proper tasty homemade gravy (no bisto here!).We're all big foodies and have eaten at many top restaurants all over the world but all agreed - this was probably the best Sunday roast we'd ever eaten. We all had desserts, which included apple crumble, panna cotta and a chocolate mousse type thing (sadly desserts didn't live up to the main). Total cost £45 each. This included tip, several drinks at the bar prior to lunch and several bottles of decent wine with lunch.Service was attentive and pleasant.I'm going back very soon.

The food upstairs is incredibly pretentious. Which chef still uses foam today? The restaurant is called 1983 but I was around in '83 and recall eating delicious food at that time Also very expensive as you are forced to eat 3 courses. I sense there was more pride in the plating of the food than actual cooking. Food all tepid. Wake up chef, we want to eat real food. 1983 or 2016Never again!

Heard The Truscott had won an award for its Sunday lunch and for various other things like staff training so for our anniversary we checked in at an upstairs table by the window. They management went to a lot of trouble when they took the place over to restore the historic features and atmosphere, which is enhanced somehow by leaving the decorative plasterwork overhead unpainted. Loved the cold meat and pickles plate and we had the lamb and the beef to follow then apple crumble. The roast comes on an enormous silver salver with a heap of cooked veg and the *best* roast potatoes ever. Impressed that they bothered with two different gravies. We stayed with a couple of pints of well-kept real ale which seemed a mistake when the suggested wines were good and imaginative. Service contrived to be both professional and friendly. Cracking. Returning tomorrow evening to check out the proper dinner menu and to see whether those wines are as good as they sound....... . Cheers!

The first time I dined here it was for a sunday dinner with a group. The food was excellent and the service was very good.I was disappointed when I came for my second visit this week. We were seated and waited about 10 minutes to be presented with menus- yes if you're busy I understand, but in this case the delay appeared to be due to three stuff members having a good old chat. Then when someone came to finely take our orders she told us the lamb was not available, not their fault but given its probably one of the most ordered dishes and half our table were planning on ordering it I feel it would have been nice if we were told when they gave us the menus. They also didn't have the wine we ordered and our server did not really know anything about their wines, it might have been nice if she offered to get someone who could help us. The food was nice but the roast lamb is definitely better than the roast beef we had to order. Finally when we ordered dessert again one of the two we ordered was not available-.All in all I have had one excellent visit and one average, hence the 4/5. Nice place for a roast but for the price their service needs to improve a lot.

This gastropub is within walking distance of Paddington but you will need to book if you want a table in the ornate first floor dining area. Dinner is amazingly good value at £32 for 2 courses and £37 for 3 courses. The drinks list is both interesting and enormous and there are even gluten-free beers. We had scallops with pork shoulder that were beautifully cooked, followed by Ballindalloch beef with turnips and potatoes. All the presentation was excellent and the vegetables were well roasted and generous portions. For dessert we had poached pink lady, which is an apple sorbet with a lovely black pepper crumble. The chef has made great efforts to provide gluten free food throughout the menu. We intend coming back for the Tasting Menu. The food was delicious and we could find no fault with it but only 4 stars overall, because the service was very slow.

Located near Little Venice and a good place to meet up with friends, particularly if central London is busy -as it is in the Christmas run-up). We spent a wintry afternoon in the ground floor pub, had lunch and tried some different ales (good selection) then went to on to dessert and coffee. Fish and chips from bar menu highly recommended, also wagyu burger. Good selection of food and drinks, including gluten free. Great surroundings and very good service. Also excellent value for London- bar food is reasonably priced. We will definitely be back.

Booked a table for me and my boyfriend as have wanted to go to the Truscott for ages! We were seated in the dining room by the window and quickly realised that although it looked like a lovely spot it was freezing!! The draft from the window was really noticeable. We did ask if the heating could be turned up but the waiter informed me there was nothing they could do and the Windows needed doing. Anyway - we asked for some bread (twice) and were given a plate of a few slices of very dry bread and then asked if we wanted any butter with it??? Yes please! :-) For the roast I chose the pork and my boyfriend the beef. Great portions of food which was all cooked lovely if slightly on the warm rather than hot side. The gravy was luke warm so we asked for it to be heated up. The waitress came back with two fresh servings but they were exactly the same temperature!! We couldn't be bothered to ask again. Service could definitely be improved here. Staff could be more attentive. Desert was nice and no problem with temperature! We did order a lovely bottle of red but it actually became really cold on the table because of the draft and air temp. I definitely would want to give the Truscott another go but maybe in the summer on a hot summers day!

Visited for Sunday lunch, the quality of the food was good although certainly not the best Sunday roast in the UK (one of the awards they have won). The good food was let down by the poor service however, in particular inefficient bar staff. Every visit to the bar took ten minutes, and empty glasses were rarely, if ever, cleared from tables. We ended up taking empties back to the bar ourselves. Dirty plates were also left on the table for an hour after we'd finished eating.Didn't live up to the high expectations and perhaps a victim of it's own success

Went for a birthday Sunday lunch for three last Sunday. Booked for the restaurant the day before. On arrival was told that we had been booked in the pub and were shown to a makeshift small table in the corner. The type of table normally meant for two but when perched into a corner with a bench round you can squeeze three on.Waited a while to order drinks which again took a while to arrive.Ordered the food at the same time as the delay meant we had been waiting a while. After about half an hour we chased our starters. Ten minutes later 1 of the 2 starters arrived and we had to chase these nod 15 minutes later. The mains again took nearly 45 minutes to arrive. The waiter offered us extra sauces and then forgot to get them when requested. The standard of the food was spot on but the delays and mistakes mean the lunch was far from pleasant. The waiter brought two drinks on the house to apologise missing out the person who had actually booked. The staff were very nice but said that they were struggling with 70 people upstairs. That I can understand but overall my first visit to the pub to eat was verging on a disaster because of this.

This pub is renowned for it's Sunday roasts and being a vegetarian never usually prevents me from enjoying one. However this Sunday's was worth complaining about. On offer was a risotto. I am not the richest person nor do I go out very often so to spend £14 on a standard risotto (a very lazy vegetarian option) when I came in for Sunday Lunch was rather disappointing. Especially as their online menu offered roasted palenta. I asked the waiter what else was on offer and he suggested 'A Vegetarian Roast'. After some initial excitement, disappointment again prevailed. I was given a plate of an ungodly amount of boiled cabbage, three roasted potatoes and some diced swede and carrots. They didn't have any vegetarian gravy and the Yorkshire pudding on the platter was covered in meat gravy. My friends were embarrassed for me and we did the best that we could to ignore the fact my lunch was exceptionally poor. One of my friends asked if they had standard veggy bistro gravy in the back - they didn't. For this experience I paid £11.00 - bitterly disappointing.

Service was amateur, felt like the place was run by kids. Had to wait ages for food and they got some of our orders wrong so they had to be re-made. They ended up giving us a free bottle of wine to compensate which, while a nice gesture, doesn't really make up for a bad evening. When it finally arrived, my main course (the barely risotto dish) was so salty it was indelible. Other dishes on the table were embarrassingly bad - raw potatoes, cold food... etc. Do not understand the good reputation this place has. Will not return. Sorry!

I had a superb mackerel salad and while it looked quite simple, it was delicious! Overall, I was very pleased with the food and service that I returned to enjoy a full three course meal with wine, picked by our waiter Andrew. We attended Sunday for a roast there was 8 of us in total we had pre booked the table and were sat out in the garden part, which was beautiful even given blankets too keep us warm. We ordered our food and waited 1hr 15mins for it too arrive, the beef was not well done as a few people had specifically asked for and we didn't receive Yorkshire puddings until we asked, which we were then asked if we wanted more? we explained we had not received the first batch never mind the second. The food i thoroughly enjoyed and we were offered a round of drinks on the house to apologize for the delay which was a nice touch. It's such a shame as it was a birthday meal and a treat, but waiting for that long it was tempting to leave and go else where. It's not a cheap roast and the delay ruined our experience but as for the atmosphere and their wine it was lovely.
