The Triton Inn in East Riding of Yorkshire

Came in with my husband for a meal last week, service was ok, young waitress was pleasant but needed training and management seemed lacking. Food was not up to standard especially for the price. I had the chicken Kiev, it was soggy and so were the fries. Wouldn't go back

Saturday lunchtime visit. Staff helpful but seemed a bit awkward with themselves, maybe on a trial shift? There was a wedding on next door so maybe they had been drafted in to help just for the day. Anyway, wines pleasant….as are the surroundings. I like the fact they automatically give you bottles of tap water too without having to ask. Unfortunately food was not great. We had steak (very hard to cut & chewy, despite being filet) with fries (undercooked) and chimichurri sauce (VERY badly made. Just a tasteless oil slick and I normally love chimichurri) £180 for 2 of us for lunch.

What a wonderful meal we enjoyed. prawn cocktails were fab and a full glass charged with them, The fish was a superb whale and i finished it , the pie was packed to the gunnels, Great food all round. our younger waitress was very friendly and very efficient , the service realy prompt she was on it! I was really impressed as there was a wedding on in the function room at the same time and they looked afetr all their customers . Well done

Being Sunday we as a family of 3 went for a walk in this beautiful village after a walk we went for lunch at The Triton Inn. I asked the staff for a table for 3 to sit inside. They refused to allow us to sit in and when asked can we please sit outside they were not willing to welcome us. Felt like discrimated because of our ethnicity.

A very busy Sunday, but the young serving staff were rude, bordering on aggressive. They are not well trained - reaching in front of people to put food & drinks on the table; banging them down really hard! Delivered our food intermittently; didn't ask if we had what we needed (condiments etc). We're not happy when we asked for things to be brought to us. Did not come back to check on us. Weren't forthcoming with the bill, we had to ask several times. Food ranged from average to ok. Chairs very rickety!!

Called in here after a rather stressful hospital appointment and was immediately de stressed by the warm and friendly welcome at this popular gastro pub. We found a lovely protected outdoor seating area, perfect for a lazy, sunny lunch. The menu offers something for everyone apart from sandwiches on a weekend lunch time which I found slightly disappointing, however the service, food quality, presentation and service more than made up for it. My steak pie was absolutely delicious and a good generous portion. A reasonably priced and well chosen wine list also added to the enjoyment. Overall a fabulous experience, highly recommended.

Had a meal early evening on Bank Holiday Monday with my wife and four friends. Food was very average and my burger was well over cooked. Will not be rushing back.

A group of four of us who are now retired meet up every two weeks to enjoy walking the Wolds followed by a meal in a local pub. Too often the meal can be disappointing. Not the case at the Triton Inn yesterday. Impeccable fast service from really pleasant staff. Two of us had steak pie one had risotto and I had seafood linguine. All of us were highly satisfied with every meal. My linguine was the best meal I have had when eating out for years. Compared to the many pubs we have been to over the years the Triton Inn is by far the best. We will be returning very soon.

We were really looking forward to celebrating my dad’s birthday at The Triton however, our experience was disappointing to say the least. The Sunday lunch menu was limited, especially as a pescatarian, we were told that it had been so busy the day before they had run out of a lot of the choices they should have had. Not great! The food we did order was unremarkable, certainly not worthy of the prices. The staff contributed to our bad experience, no cheery smiles or attentive service, nothing to help make my Dad’s celebration special. Some of the chairs were thread bare and when anyone sat on them they sank down to a level too low to eat at the table. I love old furniture but if this is what is going to be used then please keep up to the basic maintenance of them. We had wanted to sit outside after our meal and enjoy a couple of hours with a drink or two outside in the sun but, we couldn’t wait to get away, we certainly won’t be returning.

Service charge? Lovely food, good service, beautiful pub. But, a northern pub with a service chrge, not really on, the waitress informed me I could take it off if I wanted! most polite British people would feel embarassed to ask for it to be removed, having it forced upon you is not acceptable in my opinion, a tip is earned and should not be a given! This was enough to put me off going again, which is a great shame.

Too busy, unable to serve food unless you have a reservation, queued at the bar for ages. Be helpful to let people know they can't order before letting them queue

We had a large table and they served us very well. Starters such as scallops with black pudding and apple puree are excellent. The fillet steak was one of the best I have ever had. We were looked after all night and food and drinks served in a timely and friendly manner. Brilliant place.

Went for lunch with friends, The experience was marked by the absolutely disgusting practise of the management seemingly being happy to allow dogs to sit on the furniture whilst other diners are eating lunch. Whilst I don’t have a problem with dogs I do have a problem with them sitting on seats that humans sit on, when going out for lunch I tend to wear nice clothes and don’t expect to sit on seats where animals have been, it's unhygienic, dogs have worms, fleas and dirty bottoms! When we brought this issue to the attention of the waitress she seems disinterested and weakly said “ I know what you mean”! No apology, no hint of taking on board what to me is an obvious hygiene issue. Also the meal we ate was mediocre and expensive, a real letdown. Not a good experience, so consequently we won’t be going there again! I Wonder what environmental health inspectors take would be on this practice?

Excellent tasty food and friendly, helpful staff. It was “Pie Night” and we hadn’t realised when we ordered our drinks that if a pie was ordered a pint (coca cola in our case) was included in the price. As my husband had ordered a half for me the staff informed us that my next one would be free. They didn’t have to let us know but did so without prompting. Will definitely be returning.

We are so glad a friend recommended this palace. Short drive, amazing food and excellent service. Will definitely be our new local eatery. Well done to all the people that make it a gem to visit

Went here as a group of 5 adults and 1 toddler. Food was average for the price and I didn't like the 10% "optional" service charge being added to the bill which I did ask to be removed.

Eleven of our family dined at The Triton Inn. The children loved the play area. The meals all arrived at the same time. The food was exceptional and the staff very attentive. A special mention to Claire who ensured everything went well and was super friendly. We will definitely be back. Thank you

Ordered chicken curry. It was the worst curry/meal I have ever had. Two pieces of chicken covered in lukewarm tinned or jarred curry sauce. I should have complained but I didn’t, don’t know why, don’t like to, but I’m going to in future (not that I’ll be going there again) But we didn’t pay the service charge

Just moved to the area so was really looking forward to eating at The Triton as eat out regularly. Booked for Sunday lunch. The carpark was almost full which I thought was a very good sign. We were greeted at the door and taken through to a room next to a function room, which I think there was a children's party or Christening on. We ordered a roast port and roast beef lunch. The food appeared within 5-10 minutes of ordering which was okay but we hadn't even received our drinks! There was a bit of confusion with the meals as the waiter though the beef was chicken only to return with it and it was the beef. The meat was the same colour as the pork which was a little odd. Not seen that colour beef before! The cauliflower cheese was overcooked and luke warm, not very good as cost £5 extra. The guy on the mext table said he had been given the wrong meat and his childs meal was not what they had ordered. The pork dinner was nice but I was not happy with the beef. Didn't complain about the meat as I looked at a few others and they looked exactly the same. They cleared our plates away, they didn't ask if we wanted any more drinks or a desert. Felt like we were in a canteen at soft play with the noise from the function room. I had to go to the bar to ask for the bill, to find someone complaining. I will not be returning. Very disappointed as could have been our local.

Terrible experience. Walked into no welcome asking if we’d booked or direction, just joined a confused queue at the bar. People not knowing what to do as its normal to greet guests as they come in. Utter chaos running round like headless chickens. Woman that came to our table to bring menus was cold and immediately stated what wasnt available including the roast which was what we’d gone for! No apology with it. Walked out and will never return again.

Our friends arrived at the table before us and ordered drinks that never came. When we joined them nobody served us so we all went upto to the bar to order. We ordered the breads and olives to start but the girl serving didn't know what the flavours of the butter were and after making another 2 trips back to the kitchen to ask she still didn't know. There was little choice on the menu and it was overpriced. After ordering we were told they didn't have any burgers or the duck so all ended up having to go for fish and chips which nobody really wanted. We didn't enjoy the meal and nobody finished it. Nobody checked in on us whilst we were eating or ask how the food was when taking away plates with not much eaten. When the bill came there was a 10% service charge on there which we asked to be taken off due to lack of service. There are alot of lovely places to eat in the area and we eat out alot to be able to say this place isn't great and we won't be returning. It was expensive for very basic food and poor service.

Wouldn’t bother. Overpriced very average food, a family of 5 adults and 3 children and I can honestly say it was garbage! I ordered the Turkey Ballotine they were advertising on their Instagram page as it looked wonderful. it came and I just had I just had slices of turkey. My partner got the scallops starter and when asked how was they he said ‘how would I know I only got 2’ Hugely disappointing. I also left my girls little bunny, I sent them a message about it and they didn’t even bother to get back to me. Wouldn’t waste the journey to them

So disappointing …asked to preorder for our group of 12,starters did not arrive together ( 3 hot starters were finished before the rest arrived ,one order was missed off the main course order and when rectified was served cold .The food was not up the standard expected of the cost for the meal.

Had our annual Boxing Day meal at this lovely pub, got sat down straight away and it was a pleasant surprise to see a fairly standard menu available, not just a set Christmas one, the haddock fish cakes went down very well and the Asian duck salad was a delight, everyone enjoyed their mains but the standouts were the spiced pork belly and what was one if the best steak pies I’ve ever tasted, portions were a good size and we will 100% return in the future

We visited a few times whilst staying in the village and enjoyed a tasty meal on Saturday evening. It was very busy but lots of friendly young attentive staff on hand. Love that they brought the food out on large trays so it's all served at the same time. My husband had the burger which he said was delicious, I had the steak pie which was disappointing, meat was very tasty but the pastry was rock hard and inedible. I didn't complain as everything else was delicious, but the lady who collected our plates, possibly a manager noticed I hadn't eaten the pie and kindly removed it from the bill. Visited a few more times over the week for a drink and luckily it was warm enough to sit outside. On one occasion we did ask if we could pop inside for a drink, the lady who I think is the manager looked quite shocked and had to check the booking diary to see if she could accommodate us. This was 5pm and only two tables were occupied. Such a shame as this is described as a beautiful country pub but in my opinion it's more of a restaurant. There were no comfy fireside/bar chairs to enjoy a drink, no locals at the bar, too many bright lights and all the tables set up for dinner service.

We live locally and after a long walk decided to pop in for a lunch . Super clean restaurant and bar . Friendly staff great choice of beer . Just a tad over priced once the service charge was added . Maybe make the sour dough toast a little thicker to enjoy the delicious mushrooms on toast . Maybe mention that the fish finger sandwich is batter not breadcrumbs. No offence just honest opinion Thank you

Ordered the roast dinner and had much better elsewhere. Some of the vegetables were raw and the Yorkshire puddings were full of grease. Another family member ordered the pie which was very dry. Not up to the standards you would expect for the price. The service staff were lovely however.

My 4 th visit in past 3 weeks ! Absolutely amazing. Home away from home. Absolutely fab fish...batter so light and crispy ! The pattie was delicious.... Claire and her team are just so so amazing ! Thankyou Claire and Team Triton. Chefs you are amazing. See you next year again.

Steak pie had a "rock hard" crust which (literally) was impossible to cut through with a knife. Mentioned it to a very condescending waitress who abruptly said she "would mention it to the kitchen". No further response and no apology. Shame because the pub has a nice atmosphere but for the prices they charge you would expect better

Been to The Triton many times over the years and always been very impressed but something has slipped. I did send them a message through their website rather than posting a review but they didn’t respond. The specials board had a white wine on it but they couldn’t tell us anything about it. In the end had to get up and go to the bar to read bottle label. It wasn’t opened at the table, no cork was left so couldn’t seal the bottle once finished with and no napkin was left with the ice bucket so water dripping everywhere. The pork bellies are served in three pieces. Two were perfectly cooked while the other one was dry and overcooked. Can’t understand how this can happen. The desserts were served without forks. This wasn’t ice cream and they need both utensils and had to use fingers. You’re pay a premium at the Triton and as such, you expect a premium service. Others have posted about this not being a restaurant. We’ll like a lot of pubs, it’s more of a restaurant than it is a pub.
