We were staying down in Bude for a wedding and had originally booked the Saturday night, but we then decided to come down the evening before and Simon kindly & helpfully arranged the room for us for an additional night, plus set up 3 single beds for us. Dennis was so fun and made us feel so welcome! Parking was free a 2 minute walk away, and access the the hotel was great, especially as we got back later on the Saturday evening. Room was comfortable & big and would definitely recommend staying here for any friends visiting Bude together or attending a wedding. Thanks guys!

Made to feel exceptionally welcome by the really lovely lady behind the bar as well as the very friendly, charming and exceptionally hospitable locals.....then the landlord emerged from whatever dark, moody, cheerless, austere cloud he was lurking under and the mood immediately deteriorated so I beat a hasty retreat to somewhere.....ANYWHERE else! An immense pity that this beautiful, historic and utterly charming coach house Inn should now be in the custody of such a charmless, soulless, glacial gremlin but absolutely full marks to Tony and the other lovely local crowd, who really did make the visit wholly worthwhile.

Simon really bailed us out of the sh#t!! We had booked to stay Saturday night at a different establishment, but on arrival found it was closed down! Cue a number of frantic phone calls and the Tree came up trumps!! Nothing was too much trouble and they were very friendly and welcoming. It was extremely reasonably priced too.. And the bed is one of the comfiest I have ever slept in!!

We visited the pub on our weekend away. Initially the visit started very well, lovely locals and relaxed atmosphere. Unfortunately it transpired that one of the barmen was a racist. Regularly using the N word and relating to black c****s!! Disgusting!! Additionally, the pub was very busy and last orders was called at 23.10. We went outside to finish our drinks and we were sat quietly finishing our drinks. The landlord took it upon himself to become aggressive and confrontational and telling us we were too loud, even though we were sat quietly finishing our drinks. As we left we were called vile and we would not drink in this village again. Disgusting racist and aggressive behaviour from the staff. Such a shame as this was a lovely pub

Found this amazing, quirky pub by chance. Beautiful soundings, stone throw from Bude. We were made very welcome and will definitely be back, wish we could of stayed longer. Dating back to the 13th century and full of history, definitely the oldest by far where we’ve stayed. Loved it!!!!

My husband and i was planning on staying for 1 night and i rung to ask if they would be able to accommodate a late check in. They said that there would be someone there until 9pm. I explained that it may be as late as 11pm. He told me that after working all weekend the staff could bearly stay awake beyound 10pm. He wasnt showing any interest to help me. He then said that he was working and to book on line. I explained that i didnt want to book if a late check in wasnt available. He then said he had customers and that he had to go. VERY RUDE AND OBVIOUSLY DIDNT WANT MY BUSINESS. HE THEN HUNG UP!

I had a wonderful experience at The Tree Inn. Simon was so accommodating for me as my flights were cancelled at first and I was a few days late getting in to the UK and then to my room. I was out all day so was really only there to sleep and shower. There is a lively group working in the pub and I was made to feel very welcome! Good location, good people, and I'd absolutely stay here again!

Booked via buyagift for a one night stay. On arrival the gentleman was very friendly. Showed us to our room . Room very clean but very basic. Went to the bar to have a drink . Had a gin & lemonade . Lemonade was very flat so spoilt the drink. Bed was comfortable. Shower was good but the shower enclosure wasn't clean. Lots of damp in there. Just not very inviting. Went to breakfast kitchen wasn't very clean . Went there about 8.30 no fresh bread. Not enough for two of us to have toast. Doesn't state in website you have to cook your own breakfast. There was fruit but the bananas were gone over. There was cereal. Wouldn't have wanted to cook in the kitchen. No toilet paper in the toilets. Pretty poor for first thing in the morning.

Myself and may partner stayed on 21st July 2023 for one night in Room 3. What an amazing place so comfortable very clean the best nights sleep we had in ages. So much so we would love to know what make of mattress was on the bed. We were only booked in for one night wishing it was for so much longer. The blonde gentleman behind the bar, sadly we didn't catch his name, was fantastic and such an asset to your team. In the evening we had the pleasure of a live band who were wonderful. We cant wait to return and will be telling family and friends of our experience.

4.5 stars overall, very good. Positives: Very quaint ancient country Inn. Helpful when arrived, showed us around the rooms, etc. Spoke twice on the phone before the visit, again helpful. We booked all rooms for 1 night. Outdoor seating, so as nice weather, we had a drink outdoors as well in the courtyard. Internet in all rooms was ok (and I had EE signal as well in most places). To let you know: No restaurant, could use Breakfast room and Kitchen though (upstairs, so does not disturb the pub), which has oven. hob, microwave, toaster, fridge/freezer. Car Parking is free, but is a few min walk. All rooms upstairs, so not ok for disabled. Being an old building, the floors are uneven and a few steps up, then down etc. Sinks in each room, separate bath/shower/Toilet. Beds are resonable, clean etc. The builing is very old, but clean, and tidy. However, do not expect a posh hotel, this is a country Inn. Quite a way to walk to Bude/Beaches, but not far at all in the car (we had cars, so no issues for us). Negatives (although generally only minor issues): No TV in the rooms. I've not been at an Inn, Hotel etc without a TV, ever, so that is a first. Although, did not need a TV this time, sometimes it is needed on a wet rainy day if you cannot go out. As some lead water pipes, a water filter for drinking water would be nice. Take a 4 way lead with you, as you may need more power sockets in the room, especially if you have a number of gadgets, a fan, then put the kettle on (some sockets did have USB outlets though, so that was good). Some of the key locks on the room doors need some fixing, as they wobble, as does the bolt on the shower door. Overall, very happy, would stay again. Hopefully, the restaurant reopens as well one day, the room was lovely, just empty (we knew no meals as shown on their website, other booking Companies, perhaps need updating). We all helped with a Charity Skinny Dip in Bude for Mind (mental health charity) - so cannot add photos here unfortunately!

A lovely old pub with loads of rustic character. The rooms are clean and adequately furnished with comfortable beds. The shared bathroom facilities are good, but bit dated here and there. Simon was a great host and the selection of beers and ciders were excellent. The shared kitchen is a great idea so you can cook what you like along with the complimentary continental breakfast on offer. Pubs like this need our support even more in these difficult times. I look forward to staying there again soon.

Finally getting around to writing this review which is way overdue. Spent a week at the Tree Inn in July and had a great time. It’s the quirkiest place I have ever stayed and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Simon was a fantastic host and has a story for every occasion. Dennis chipped in with a story or two of his own as well. Felt totally at home and was very welcoming. Real value for money and a great base to travel from. The only downside was the lack of eating establishments in the area especially on a Sunday but once we were aware of that we managed just fine. Definitely go back even just for Simon’s company 😂 Paul & Andrea

Having rang to book a table we were asked if we wanted to eat in the bar as the restaurant was full... fine! From there it went down hill! Not family friendly, every other word from the clientele began with an F, even the bar man/manager joined in at times, at one point I asked someone to curb their language as our 7 year old daughter was eating with us. Various dishes not available on the menu, one of which we were told about long after we had ordered, we chose another, then the waitress came back to say the chef had ‘found’ another steak. My mothers pasta was a ‘special’ but to be very honest I’ve tasted better from a jar. The fish and chips were soggy, my husband left his and he never leaves food. To top this off it was probably one of the most expensive meals we had in Bude and definitely the worst!

We have visited family in Stratton for years but had never been into The Tree. Our son ate there a couple of times in the summer and gave good reports. We were thus looking forward to our visit. We got our menus and were told there was no risotto ( "We don't do it anymore") and no gammon. The latter was a blow as one of our party had their heart set on it.We ordered and the food came and it was good. We went to order dessert and were told there was no apple crumble and no vanilla ice cream. The latter was served with many of the desserts so was quite a major omission. We were told we could have cream or custard and, to be fair, we were given a big helping of cream (custard is not so good with sticky toffee pudding). Our grumbles are;1) We ate early in the evening and they had already run out of dishes.2) It seems amazing that there is a big supermarket less than a mile away. Could they not have got some vanilla ice cream as it was such an integral part of a number of desserts?3) Finally all the information was given as a matter of fact. The "s word " was not used once. Even when I went to pay and was asked "Was everything alright?", I replied "Yes but it was a shame you ran out of things" all I got in response was "Yes it is."I am not sure we will rush back. It was pub grub at restaurant prices.

We decided to start our week away in Bude with a roast dinner. We decided on the Tree Inn after visiting several years ago and it did not disappoint. We sat in the bar to eat as we had dogs with us, it was lovely and cosy. We had to go into the restaurant to help ourselves to the carvery. There were 3 choices of meat, I opted for the vegetarian option of nut roast which was delicious and was served with ots own jug of gravy. There were so many different vegetables to choose from and loaded my plate with potatoes, parsnips, peas, cauliflower cheese, mashed carrot & swede, cabbage etc. After devouring our roasts (clean plates all round) we decided to sample the dessert menu. Most of us chose the sticky toffee pudding which tasted just as delicious as the roast dinner. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed.

We’ve been coming to The Tree for a Friday night treat every month or so for a while now. We fell in love with their delicious rib eyes and cafe de Paris butter. We did have a blip a while ago when they had a different chef on duty and for a while but it seemed back on form. I was really disappointed therefore on Friday night when our steaks arrived. Mine was requested rare but was completely cold and blue. There was no issue with it being whisked off and cooked a little more although it was still pretty blue on its return even though I’d asked for it to be medium this time ( having seen my partners medium steak still bleeding a little). Unfortunately it was quite gristly and fatty and the peppercorn sauce was very thin , watery and bland so I did leave most of it although no one asked me if it was ok. Another shame was that we were left to our own devices and no one checked if we wanted desert. We’ve always ordered desert on our previous visits. We felt the usual warmth and reliably great food was definitely missing. A real shame as this was our favourite place to eat for a date night treat.

We ordered the honey roast ham, eggs and chips & loin of pork with crackling from the specials board. Both meals were very good and the portions impressive - the only reason I marked the Tree Inn down a peg was it was 55 minutes from ordering until we were served. We ate on the 21st August 2019 a party of 6 adults and 3 children. Starters were very good but the mains went a bit pear shaped. A burger should have had no salad, it did, gammon should have had no pineapple, it did, steak should have cheesy chips, it didn’t, but the big fault was that one of three hunters chickens was not cooked through. Inevitably there was then a long wait to replace it. Service was somewhat slow and we weren’t given the option of puddings. However we had a fun evening, nobody seemed to mind that we were quite loud and as it was the waitresses first evening and we were using Meerkat so the bill was reasonable we paid up and moved on.

Complained as soon as meal arrived and was advised another would be cooked. Got to end of meal and complained to the Manager because it did not arrive. What chef could not cook an egg. We decided to go for hubbies birthday dinner. The Tree Inn is somewhere I have been visiting since I was a child visiting Cornwall for our annual camping trip. My siblings and I used to play in the games room and pick songs on the juke box. It’s changed a bit in the last 30 years! We haven’t been for a couple of years. In my opinion the food this time wasn’t up to its usual standard. They were having staff issues so the service was below par, the barmaid/waitress was rushing around like a headless chicken trying to do 101 things, and forgot our garlic bread. The food was ok but nothing special. The wait was long (it was a Friday night). They could do with more variety on the menu.

We stayed a night here and really enjoyed the history of this 13th century Inn. The room with a shared bathroom reflected the age of the building but we never encountered any other guest at the bathroom door. There was a basin in the room. The hallway had a slight slope but this added to the character. We had a meal here at night and a lovely cooked breakfast in the morning. The manager was very welcoming and friendly and full of information about the history. She was a bit of a "machine" as she seemed to be everywhere. In the restaurant at night and at breakfast in the morning. Just a interesting fact. The beams in one restaurant was from a shipwreck.

Three generations of our family returned here as it was the pinnacle of our families holiday many moons ago. Unfortunately, this time it will be remembered in a much more negative way! Seemed to be only 2 people front of house. We had to ask for the menus and had 2 in our family who were gluten free. After waiting over an hour and a half after our arrival, our food arrived (not before the people who ordered after us had been served). My lasagne (£13) consisted of a thick cheese layer, 4 consecutive sheets of lasagne (no sauce or meat) and finally one layer of meat at the bottom, still no white sauce! This was returned to the kitchen and after the already long wait, I did not order more food , so went hungry! Had to ask for the peas to accompany the fish dishes! Front of house were very apologetic and offered a discount to the final bill, but was all very disappointing- particularly as our previous memories were so fond.

Came to the tree inn for dinner with my wife and son, I found the food amazing the atmosphere great and the staff very helpful. We ordered from the daily specials and enjoyed both dishes immensely, the only downside was we came here on our last night of holiday and if we had known how good the place was we would have been back on many occasions definitely the best food in the area

We visited this pub last year and were disappointed with the speed of service. However we decided to visit again this year as we had our dog with us and The Tree is dog friendly. The staff were welcoming and helpful but once again the service was very slow and the food, when it eventually arrived was very average.

Found this place by looking on trip advisor and could not fault it. Lovely old building with beams and the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was incredible and the prices were good too. Bonus for us the took the Meerkat meals voucher. Hoping to go back while we are still in Cornwall.

The restaurant was closing but the chef stayed behind to make us a great pasta dish and rhubarb crumble. They opened the breakfast area early to accommodate us too. Great food, Great selection of beers, wonderful service. Warm and friendly atmosphere. The rooms were clean and tidy and very individual given the age of the building.

we walked here from Bude, not a scenic walk but meant we could have some beer without needing to drive. The food was good and lots of it! Both had the gammon and everything on the plate was well cooked and good quality. would recommend. Nice atmosphere too.

Not a good experience - took us over 2 hours to get served two courses, and it wasn't brilliant when it arrived. Seems they'd had some chef difficulties - but there's still something around managing expectation, keeping guests informed and possibly offering them things like free drinks and even bread rolls when problems are this bad. I'm sure that under different circumstances this would have been fine - but we were the only table of 5 or 6 who actually stayed through the whole farce. Felt so sorry for the staff - but it was a pretty dismal experience.

There’s a new chef at The Tree and we have visited twice now to check out the new menu. For our first visit we decided to just have a load of starters so had the antipasti/charcuterie plate (big, with lots of different meats, cheese, cornichons, olives etc.) spicy breadcrumbed squid, baked Camembert, crispy duck confit, two portions of a superb chicken liver parfait, plus breads served with dipping oil and balsamic vinegar. Everything was just lovely, beautifully presented and fresh. Despite saying we would just have starters, we were tempted by the coconut ice cream, which was also delicious. Our second visit today was for lunch and it was amazing. My husband had pakora vegetables- lightly battered, and served with rice and a gorgeous coconut-ey spicy curry sauce. I was lucky enough to have one of the daily specials - half Bude Bay lobster served with fries, clarified butter, garlic mayonnaise and salad. I haven’t eaten lobster for a while and this was perfectly cooked, and so delicious. Fantastic! Well done The Tree.

This booking for 4 made two weeks ago when having lunch there was to coincide with live music in the courtyard garden. My father is disabled and we checked that a specific table was available that we could assist him to and know that he would be comfortable and be able to see the band from the window, being unable to move around un aided.

My partner and I were staying in the village and had an evening meal at The Tree Inn. Sadly it wasn’t anything special. We had steak but it wasn’t cooked as requested and very fatty. The meal was average, i don’t think I will rush back to eat.

Slow, unattentive service. My daughters burger was burnt. My husbands ribs were also burnt with lots of bits of foil stuck on them. My noodles were at the most luke warm. My husband ordered the mixed italian meats which was served with dipping oil but no bread. We asked for bread and it took around 25mins, we were advised that this starter is not served with bread but still why 25mins to get the bread even though i cant understand what the dipping oil is for! Then the bill had two 0 alcohol beers exactly the same, one at £3 and the other £3.50.

We went for a meal expecting it to be a gastro pub type experience, with really tasty food. We were disappointed. It was edible, but very ordinary indeed. We could have bought the ingredients from Morrisons up the road and knocked it together ourselves with no bother. We had been expecting something a lot more special. I had already chosen the cottage pie from the website menu, but that wasn’t on the menu in the pub, with the choices being... well, yes, ordinary. The service was ok. The surroundings a bit grimy. Won’t be going back.

Came here for our 1st night in Stratton with hubby, our 5 year old & Great Dane. Staff were great & there was an amazing selection of gins to choose from. Most of the tables were booked so we ate in the pool bar side. I had the rib eye steak with peppercorn sauce. Not my 1st pick for steak but wow, it was sublime. Never had such a beautifully cooked & well seasoned steak. It really was exquisite! Hubby had the gammon which was fab. Portions were substantial & service was prompt. Locals were so nice, even offered to look after our dog whilst we ate. Can't wait to go back again, think we'll be regular visitors throughout our stay here. Only criticism was lack of a children's menu as not much choice 4 a picky child.

My wife and I had dinner there last night and were very pleased with the level of service, food and wine. I chose the seared mackerel starter and king prawn noodles main, my wife chose the smoked haddock gratin starter and belly pork main. The food was excellent with large portions served by cheerful helpful staff. The wine selection was also excellent. We have no qualms in highly recommending The Tree Inn and we will certainly return.

I’ve been staying with my sister in Stratton for 5 days and have visited The Tree Inn numerous times. Not only was the service impeccable but the food was out of this world. The gnocchi was perfect and the wine went down a treat. I’d make a special trip purely for this pub. Absolutely 12 out of 10!

My niece and I had lunch here last Sunday. Our table was ready ahead of schedule in a quiet corner of the bar area. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The food on the carvery was fresh and appetising. There was a choice of three different roast meats and very wide range of well cooked vegetables, several in delicious sauces. The Yorkshire puddings were enormous and the stuffing was made to their own recipe. We opted for the 'small' portion but were invited to return for more vegetables if we wanted them. However, we were saving ourselves for the desserts and we weren't disappointed. My niece had the chocolate brownie and I had the Eton mess. Both were attractively served. There was no sense of rush and the staff ensured we had everything we wanted. Parking is not a problem as it is only a short distance from a free public car park. Altogether a very pleasant experience.

The ice creams here are beautiful! Really generous portions and are very well presented. The customer service we received was outstanding, my daughter had a massive meltdown (ASD) and they were nothing but supportive, understanding and helpful. We'd had a very tough day today with meltdowns galore and this one was by far the worst of the day yet I never felt alone or judged. People like you make the biggest difference and I am so very grateful for you going out of your way to help and care. Thank you x
