Nice real beer and food. Cosy and friendly. Not quite as good under Buxton Brewery cut good to see it re-open. 04-07-24 Sadly closed again with stripped out fittings and furniture with a sad now on the window from Buxton Brewery saying we tried 😥

The Treacle Tap was sadly disappointing. We went into the bar and waited a few minutes before a member of staff appeared. The young man finally arrived, no smile, no eye contact just looking down and muttered what I think was an apology for keeping us waiting. The bar had a few people in it but didn't feel welcoming. Not in a 'you're not local' way but just felt......odd. We didn't even finish our drinks before we moved in. It's such a shame because it's nice inside but we won't be returning.

Cosy, little bar selling a great selection of bottled beers, particularly Belgian. Decent food available if you like pie peas and mash and deli style platters with cold meats. Games and books available as well as regular social events. Worth noting location is on a street affected by anti social drivers, so do take care.

There are about 10 keg taps, and three of four cask beer to choose from most of the time, and they have a good selection of Belgian and German beers in the fridge. Sean, the new manager, has started to build a really good vibe arena for both fine ales and good food, although we are aware that he doesn’t create the gastronomical delights they are now serving, his service to drinkers and eaters alike is faultless! I've visited The Treacle Tap on a number of occasions and dropped in there again last Friday with a couple of friends.Unfortunately we were disappointed for the following reasons:1) The live music was loud and did not allow us to talk to each other easily -- is an amplifier really necessary in a small bar like this ? Due to the noise we left after 1 drink.2) There were 3 beers on draught but each was a variant on pale ale -- more variety would be good.3) We asked to taste a couple of the beers before buying and a small sample was provided but only 1 glass, which we shared -- surely the bar can allow all interested parties to taste the beers ?

Used to love this hidden little gem on Sunderland Street In Macclesfield when John and Aran ran the place. Since the new manager took over, he’s hardly around, they run out of food, they run out of ale, the bar man walks round with his underwear hanging out , it’s more empty than usual and the toilets run out of toilet paper and/ or they’ve run out of paper towels etc, etc...

Visited this lovely little real ale pub on a Sunday lunch time as a group of four and what a fantastic find this was. Will, the barman was riding solo but he couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The real ales were well explained and his wine knowledge was very good. We ordered four pies, mash and peas which Will cooked and served and everyone really enjoyed their meal. I had the chicken and Stornoway black pudding pie which was very very tasty and supplied by an artisan pie maker. I would highly recommend the Treacle Tap as it has really friendly atmosphere and excellent staff. If we're ever in Macclesfield again we will definitely pay the Tap a visit.

Has a good selection of local brewery beers and you can also get tea and coffee.Nice, clean surroundings.and can be family orientated in the day but more of a drinkers pub at night as can get quite crowded. .Situated on a busy road but there is a public car park at the back of the premises .Worth a try if you like a pub with a nice atmosphere and no telly blaring out while you are trying to talk.

A group of 23 of us booked for the Christmas 3 course meal. The booking was for 7pm and it took the staff until after 8 pm to start bringing the Starters to us in dribs and Drabs. We were advised the Vegetable soup was not available and we're offered 3 alternatives. One of which turned out to be not available. 1 person did not like the alternatives to the soup but was not offered anything else or her money back for this. The main courses arrived again after the staff not clearing the tables and again in dribs and drabs. The cranberry sauce arrived after most people had finished there meals. The Turkey was beautifully cooked but the Salmon was overcooked, Some of the vegetables were more than slightly Al dente and some cold. Again the tables were not cleared properly and the sweets arrived again in dribs and drabs. We were not offered the option of brandy sauce for the Christmas puddings and the pitiful amount of Custard that was to shared between everyone was very disappointing. The overall experience ended around 10.30 meaning it had taken 3 and a half hours to serve 3 courses if food. There were only 3 staff we could see in the premises and they seemed to be trying to cook and serve at the same time. They appear to be prioritising walk in customers and blamed this partially on the poor service and lack of staff allowed to work by the management. Finally the Cheese and biscuits ordered specially for two people and confirmed the day before were not brought out and we were told that was only available on Christmas day. We shall not be booking this again! Please think carefully before booking a large party for a meal.
