My partner and I came here to check out the Detroit pizza and cocktails. The service was fast and super friendly, plus they catered for my nut allergy really well. Being dog friendly, we took out 12 yo labrador Alffi who had fun, plus and Utterly Mutterly ice-cream! We had the 1/2 and 1/2 Detroit pizza, a mix of Bloody Mary and the porcini mushrooms. It was DELISH, the portion was also massive meaning we took half home for tea, making it 2 meals in 1. My partner had the Detroit IPA which was hoppy and fresh. I had the Shepherd and Welsh Wanderer cocktails. Very strong, delicious and well presented. We have friends that live locally and will absolutely be back to check out the Sunday slices, bring our dogs and have some more pizza and cocktails. Thanks Lee & co for fab hospitality.

We only stopped for a cup of coffee at an establishment that calls itself a pub and coffee house! The cappuccino was small, served in a chipped enamel beaker and too strong. I assume it was just made by an automated machine. However to top it all we were charge £4 each. Probably the most expensive coffee I have had and one of the worst. Should not be allowed.

Lovely pub in a stunning location, our second visit here, our first visit was just for drinks a few weeks back & then we spotted the tasty looking pizzas authenticity cooked & decided to return Ordered a pepperoni deep pan & a tuna & red onion thin based, both had a good amount of toppings & the tomato base was delicious. Also like the fact they have a really good variety of drinks here & the mock tails are also nice. Would like to mention the staff and can see from others reviews some have been disappointed but yes they are in main a young team but they have on both visits been friendly, accommodating and hard working, serving and cleaning tables as quickly as possible to accommodate more customers in the busy summer season. Will be back again for more pizza soon 🍕

We booked a table for 16:30, but had to wait for 15 mins at the bar to know which table we were sat at as there are no front of house staff. Bar staff were polite but seemed very overstretched. We ordered the detroit style pizza - it was okay but massively overpriced for what it was (was mostly dough). Besides ordering at the bar we didn’t receive any service (waiter never came to ask how food was). The website makes out that it’s fully booked but there were few empty tables while we were inside and loads of empty tables outside - shame we didn’t realise these tables were free as we would have much preferred to sit outside along the canal. We visited as we saw a good review on instagram hyping it up - but it’s really not worth your money - my partner likes to call it the hipster tax.

We booked 2 weeks ago online and detailed on our booking that we had a young child that required a high chair. When we arrived we had to ask for the high chair, we were told the only two high chairs they had were all being used by other families, leaving our 18 month child with nowhere to sit. We were also told the two families had also booked their high chairs, my immediate question is, if this was actually the case, why were we not emailed or contacted before to be told this so we could have put alternative measures in like bringing a booster seat? We spoke to two members of staff regarding this, and the second spoke to the manager; making it apparent that the manager clearly lacked the competence to speak to us in person. I was effectively in ear shot of the message being passed on to deliver which was: “tell them first come first serve”. Not a good look when you’re making your young waitress staff have the difficult and unprofessional response that you’re paid to do… (we’ll ignore the eye roll she gave us when we responded with the fact we were disappointed with this.) Needless to say we instantly regretted giving any form of custom by buying drinks before getting our seats. As the ever growing demand for restaurants to establish a niche selling point in a troubling and unstable industry, accommodating more than two families would be a great starting point for this business. Left with no instagramable snaps but a lingering bitter taste in our mouths. The Kings Arms in Abergavenny saved the day!

I’ll definitely recommend and visit again. Great staff and great food. The pizzas are made in a pizza oven and the ingredients are really fresh and tasted amazing.

We booked a table for 1730 and had to queue for 10 minutes at the bar to even be seated, then queued another 10 minutes to order only to be told they had run out of dough and only had 3 individual slices left so we paid over the odds for them. When it arrived it was margarita not pepperoni and the waitress didn’t apologise or offer any solution except “you’ll have to go back to the bar but it’ll probably be a long wait we’re busy” and as we didn’t fancy another 10 minute wait at the bar we just ate it but weren’t offered any money back. How can you run out of dough at 5pm?? Pizza was average at best and certainly not worth the price even if they had managed to get our order right.

Terrible! Ordered two Detroit pizzas, pepperoni and spicy Nduja sausage! The pepperoni was great but the spicy sausage pizza wasn’t what we expected! Didn’t realize it was spreadable sausage covered in chili flakes and jalapeños, there were no pictures on the menu, internet access to look it up or no description - completely accept we had ordered the wrong pizza but when speaking to the waitress, we was given evil stares from the chef and told we’ll get another pepperoni pizza as we had only 1 slice of the spicy spreadable sauage pizza. Time went by and the chef had come to us and asked again what was wrong with the pizza, we expressed it wasn’t want we expected and was told to not order a pizza with spicy sausage if we didn’t know what spicy sausage was in a very patronizing and aggressive manor - he had boxed up the spicy spreadable pizza and told us to find another person who likes spice and to heat it up on the air fryer. When explaining we don’t want to take it home and that the waitress asked us if we wanted another pepperoni, the chef replied with ‘if the waiter was young, she’s just doing tables’. So after this we asked for a refund to which he huffed and stormed off, he said he’d take off 50% but only gave us back £7 which for a £25 pizza, is defiantly not 50%. Overall not a great experience and I’m not sure if this is to do with the fact that when on our arrival, a couple had complained they hadn’t had there drinks yet after waiting for a long time and requested a refund - either way, this was such a let down and response and service wasn’t great, such a shame as we saw this on TikTok and looked amazing.. I guess we will have to know what spicy sausage is and for the chef, please don’t take things personally and maybe give a bit more description to you serve

Popped in for a quick drink after a walk and wasn’t aware of the fact they did pizza … opted for a Detroit style pizza with fennel and sausage and blown away by the quality of the food and service . Chef took time to explain the ingredients etc and ended up taking home most of it as it was so good . Definitely go back and highly recommended- this place is a hidden gem

First class pizzas here at the towpath. Around £25 each but enough for a generous lunch for 4. Great beer, friendly service and plenty of outdoor seating. Probably the best pub in Gilwern.

We stopped on the last night of our canal holiday on the Mon & Brec canal. It just happened to be Japanese food evening with food supplied by "Mitsuki" Pop-ip Takeaway food. We booked a table inside the pub so that we could eat and drin in comfort. The Towpath Inn is open from Wednesday every week and has different types of food each evening. E.g. Burgers (Beefy Boys), Wood Fired Pizza and Japanese. (as above). Excellent range of real Ales too ! Well worth a visit. Just remember to book a table - it gets busy !

This is a lovely, friendly and characterful little inn with canal and outside seating as well as a cosy inside space. I have visited several times at the weekend and have sampled a different type of food every time. It's always exciting to discover what the offer is for that weekend and I have yet to be disappointed. The staff work hard and it's always an enjoyable experience at the Tow Path. I am already looking forward to my next visit.

This is one of our local pubs, and our favourite in the neighbourhood. Lee & his team work hard to create a welcoming, friendly environment for locals and visitors, and they really care about the quality of the food and drink. The beer is well-chosen and well-kept, and they offer a great selection of wine, cocktails and mocktails if you're feeling fancy. But the food is the star of the show: they have an ever-changing variety of street food, and although it's a cut above your standard pub grub, it's still accessible and doesn't overcomplicate things.

Recently refurbished and Rebranded as "Fire & Fork" promising a " a traditional American barbecue experience". No Bread available before Starters. - Pork Burnt Ends - Mixture of under and over cooked chunks of pork in a sickly sweet, slightly spicy smoked sauce. Need something acidic to cut through all the fat came with "Texas "Toast", Stale slice of bloomer spread with an unidentifiable substance. Beef Cigars - Lovely shredded beef in a crispy pancake style roll with a rich, smoked Garlic Mayo. Mains - XL Short Ribs not available so both ordered the 10 Hour Smoked Brisket. Served as described on menu. No discernable smoked crust or flavour to the Brisket. No mustard available at this restaurant. No Napkins provided, asked twice, got some from another table. we dealt with our cutlery shortage similarly. No water provided when requested. Inexperience of the staff evident but more than made up for by their enthusiasm and wish to please. Two Starters, Two Mains, Three pints and a Short / Mixer - £92. Option to add tip to card payment. Cash tip direct to server. This place has lots of potential but needs to overcome teething problems before one will consider a return
