This place is an absolute gem. During the day there is also a beautiful view to enjoy Food is simply delicious and the service is 5+. I would be definitely back.

This place is really lovely to come for meals out, even just for a coffee with friends. The atmosphere is lovely. Our waitress Cecilia was very attentive and very friendly. She made our time there extremely comfortable! I ordered a hot chocolate with oat milk and it cane with a nice little biscuit on the side which made me so happy. It was delicious! Definitely recommend and will come again!

Tollhouse is our favourite place to go for a special occasion. We very much enjoy introducing friends and family to the restaurant. The food is always quality and the staff professional but friendly. Excellent value for money.

Popped in for a quick bite after a visit to the botanics. Very welcoming staff, beautiful atmosphere & delicious food! The manager, Denzia, offered great advice on the menu options. We absolutely loved the deserts! We also appreciated our dietary needs catered to! And thank you to our server, Loretta, for a lovely lunch at Tollhouse. We will definitely be back next time we are in Edinburgh.

They cancelled the night before saying they couldn’t accommodate us with wheelchair. Disappointing they didn’t give us more notice as we are now struggling to get another booking elsewhere. So not able to tell you how the food is unfortunately. ***** Following on from this review the owner contacted me to apologise for this happening and to try make up for it has invited us to come along for a complimentary meal at one of the groups restaurants. I was very touched how apologetic and the gesture.

Great food, service is excellent, staff have ben very, very well trained. Only complaint: roof is wrong and the sound in the restaurant is odd, and you have to shout to be heard. The Dine family never give you a bad meal, the gravadlax starter was amazing!

The food was very good, we tried the pastrami, the chicken breast and the pork and all 3 of them were incredibly good. Cecilia, our waiter, made us feel comfortable. the restaurant feels elegant and was very well decorated. worth a visit

First proper meal at Edinburgh, The Tollhouse, lunch by the river, the cosy vibe coupled with the immaculate service is the reason for this to be our first stop, starters were not bad, prawns could be made better, more crunchy, mains were average, steak is acceptable but the fries was good. You can skip the desserts. Overall, it is very comfortable place for friends gathering with fantastic service but quality of the food are just average

I was at the Tollhouse yesterday after a wedding and had been stressed out prior to someone letting me down in relation to the wedding. The staff at the Tollhouse were so attentive and their attention to detail was impressive, we never had an empty glass of water and we were treated as such VIPs. The food was amazing, incredible portion sizes and the presentation was fantastic. All in all, I’m so happy that we went there for food as we were all treated as people and not just money bags. Would definitely recommend going there for an important meal as they will make you feel as equally important.

We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the Water of Leith, the food was delicious and the staff were extremely friendly and efficient. The fixed price menu was really good value. Definitely a place we will visit again and again.

Visited for my husband’s birthday. We had the table downstairs next to the open kitchen. The food atmosphere and service was absolutely first class. A perfect celebration.

Went for Sunday Roast. Beef was nice. Roast Chicken excellent. Primarily attended to by Cecilia who was lovely. Rest of staff also very welcoming and attentive. Plan to return for full menu dinner.

Tollhouse made us feel very welcome and relaxed. Our waiter, Cameron, was just GREAT from start to finish. Just the right amount of attention and input. We never felt rushed. We had tried several other venues prior to discovering Tollhouse. The contrast in the willingness to accommodate us was stark, making us all feel very special. What a find!

Excellent restaurant with interesting menu food was flavourful and nicely presented. Scallops were excellent and the chicken good. Offered a nice option when we discovered the nearby restaurant was closed on a Wednesday, staff was very accommodating.

Nibbles, gravadlax and ice cream were excellent. However same cannot be said of beef shin which was very tough and did not fall apart. It was removed from our bill. This was also to compensate for fact that I was first brought lamb in error. Service was good other than this error.

Amazing experience for my birthday. They put us right by the windows so we could overlook the river and bridge. Wine tasting, great food and amazing service (thank you Loreta!). We Calle din last minute after a wonderful day in the Botanical Gardens… we were hungry! Had walked passed the Toll House earlier and though wow this places looks so amazing. What a very memorable experience! Free parking all day Sat and Sunday and after 6:30pm in week days.

We went there for our last dinner in Edinburgh. Me and my friends really enjoyed our meal as it had everything a good dinner need to have: perfect service, really good quality food and a beautiful location. If you want to to end your trip with a good meal this is the place.

We visit The Tollhouse pretty frequently and always have a fantastic time. Accessible but thoughtful menu, interesting and varied wine list and excellently made house cocktails. We always leave smiling and tonight was no exception. Thoroughly recommend to everyone.

Really very nice restaurant, an old customs house renovated with a very high roof! And adjacent to the river and the bridge. Very polite and intelligent waiter. Dinner started very well with two spectacular starters. But then there was a sensational failure both on the wine (they served a different and lower quality Barolo than the one ordered on the wine list; they didn't change it but discounted it from the bill) The meat, requested A rare and was instead served overcooked. The side chips were of poor quality and fried in very used oil! Sin! Expectations were very high but the chef, I think Genoese (given the pesto and other Ligurian dishes on the menu) should have taken better care of at least the focaccia which seemed sadly reheated! Medium-high account. Service could be improved. For example: the cutlery placed on the table without any tablecloth certainly did not give the impression of good overall hygiene the final score is rather generous but I think it is appreciated as an incentive to improve

We discovered this restaurant in Edinburgh after a long day of walking around the sights, the place is lovely located along the river full of vegetation, the truly exceptional dishes prepared in international style but the influence of Italian cuisine was evident (see aubergine caponata ). To conclude, impeccable service 10/10!

My partner and I regularly come here for drinks and nibbles, and the staff are always excellent; good natured and attentive.The quality of food and drinks are great and are very well priced as well. The balcony at the Tollhouse is also a favourite of ours, through all seasons as the staff also provide blankets and there are heaters for the colder months. Highly recommend a visit!

Reserved a window seat, got it⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Service was exceptional. Loretta was a great hostess, very observent as was Kevin. Dishes were served in appropriate timings. All staff were pleased to serve & with a smile. Restaurant was beautifully set out. Toilets were clean & tidy. The whole menu looked delicious, so hard to chose. Wish I lived nearer. Defo recommend

We have tried many restaurants in Edinburgh over the last 3 days, and this was whim to come here. This was probably the best choice we have made over the weekend. By far the tastiest food, well presented and the service was second to none. Try the secret garden rose gin cocktail if you have the chance. This is a true hidden gem. Ps smitten on the terrace of the weather permits over the river is a real bonus.

Absolutely faultless. The service was fab, food absolutely incredible, actually said ‘god this is so good’ out loud to nobody, as I was dining alone! Recommend the asparagus highly. Liked the experience so much I rebooked to come back at 5 the same day and order the other things I couldn’t choose between. Staff SO attentive, remembering I liked ice in my drink and bringing it without being asked, gorgeous location being sat on the terrace. Never ever write reviews but my experience there meant I couldn’t not share. Can’t wait to return - thank you!

I saw the café on my way to the Royal Botanic Garden, and I liked its location and its beautiful view of the River Leith, especially the outdoor seating, so I decided to allocate a special visit to it in the next day’s schedule. In fact, I arrived the next day at 1 p.m. after walking for 35 minutes, only to be surprised by the receptionist apologizing for not receiving us due to the presence of customers who had completely blocked the outdoor seating, and she told me that we could enter the place at 2 p.m., that is, after a full hour. She advised me that we could call before arriving to confirm whether the place was available or not. We felt frustrated at the time and it fell into our hands, but we replaced this restaurant with the café next to it called Petty & Grorge, which was no less than it in terms of location and quality of place.

Wow. After visiting the botanical garden, walked a short way to Tollhouse, and enjoyed a drink overlooking the water. We started with a Scots Negroni and Champ de Fleur. Both were exceptional and beautifully presented. Then moved on to the meal. The weather was perfect as was the food and service. Braised lamb shank, perfectly prepared, was one of the best meals I've ever had. Likewise, the Burrata was excellent. Cocktails were exceptional enough to have a rare second after the meal. Most highly recommend Tollhouse, it's worth a ride even if you are in the heart of the city.

We had a fabulous relaxed lunch in the Edinburgh sunshine with delicious food and fabulous service. We were attended to perfectly for the 2.5hrs we were there - with a window seat so we could watch the world go by. My partner and I had a 3-course set menu at The Tollhouse, and our experience was fantastic. The waiter Kevin was pleasant from the beginning, and made sure our lunch went smoothly. The food was tasty and really interesting, and the flavours were subtle yet really enjoyable. We can definitely recommend The Tollhouse to anyone looking for a great place to eat great food.

this is one of our favourite spots in Edinburgh. Here this time for a belated birthday, we do like the sunday lunch, and this is what we had. Great food. Staff were very helpful and on top of their game. I do think the wine is getting a bit on the expensive side, but then maybe I just don't get out often enough being a pensioner!

The Tollhouse is a fantastic restaurant for an occasion or fancier date night. The food is the highlight here! The menu is varied, original with some of its ideas, and executed very well. Everything was delicious and all plates were cleared! The service from the staff was very professional - attentive and friendly without being overbearing. The star off for atmosphere is 2-fold: the prime tables are next to the river view and next time I would definitely request one of these in advance, the alternative is a view of the main road junction which doesn't have the same romantic beauty. The other comes from the space being quite high and a tad echoey with some louder patrons dominating the room with their chat. The setting is otherwise lovely with simple decor and a nice Edinburgh map theme around the room.

Do not miss this restaurant when in Edinburgh! Casual atmosphere, yet epicurean menu, with an extensive wine menu to pair with all of your courses. My husband had the venison and I had the eggplant both dishes were delicious and seasoned to perfection. Cameron and team, the service staff was on top of assuring our last meal in Scotland before returning to the US was an enjoyable experience. Don’t miss this diamond of a restaurant with such positive energy and equally delightful food and spirits!

The restaurant design is a balance of dark wood and large windows. Great menu. A fixed priced option for early diners. Ingenious flavour combinations. Request a window table overlooking the water - it’s a lovely view.

A modern restaurant located directly on the River Leith and far away from the usual tourist fare. The dishes were cleverly prepared and tasted of high quality. The service is extremely friendly and accommodating. It is the right location to spend a cozy evening. Compliments to the kitchen and thank you for the lovely evening. We will definitely go back. This place is stunning. Truly unlike any other restaurant we have visited while in Edinburg. The food, drinks, atmosphere and staff were all 10/10. We came here to celebrate my husband birthday and it was just such a great experience. Only thing I wish we were able to visit more than once in our stay. The food was well thought out. I ate completely vegetarian and didn’t feel I was missing any meats/ fish

We went this evening for a dinner - what a gem of a place! The food was fantastic, every dish was perfection, could not fault a thing. A lot of thought in each dish. The staff were very attentive and very kind, they could not be more helpful. Beautiful setting and a very calm atmosphere. We will be back for sure and will recommend to others!!

I can only be lyrical about The Tollhouse, The staff at the restaurant were proactive and very friendly. The food was fresh and delicious. We started with soup and for our main course, I ordered the risotto while my girlfriend had the chicken which was also very tasty. One of the staff members recommended a wine that paired perfectly with our main course. The Tollhouse is not cheap, but for finer wining and dining it is good value for money. Overall, it was a great experience. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant.

We visited the Christmas Market, and we were looking for some sort of fine dining. This place came up, the reviews were great, and it was kids friendly as they had a children menu. Book in advance if u like to eat early. The food we had was delicious, tasked great. The quantity looked small, but I was full after my main. Service was beautiful. I will go there again.
