The Table in Edinburgh, City of

We've been coming to our favourite Edinburgh place since it opened in 2015 and looking back I couldn't believe my only review of it was 7 years ago. Chef Sean continues to innovate and delight in equal measure, as is clear from the proliferation of 5* reviews - don't hesitate to ask anything about the food or the wine, he is rarely happier than when describing the provenance of the cheese or veal.. or the terroir of his new favourite wine... I rarely go for restaurant wine pairings but wouldn't hesitate to recommend the offerings here. You won't be disappointed by the quality, value or attention to detail! I've posted the current menu below - you'll get a copy in your goody-bag when you leave. And I can't leave without mentioning Keith - Sean's brother and head of music production at The Table. The place wouldn't be the same without you, Keith. Look forward to seeing you both again, soon! And next year is the 10th Anniversary! Can't wait for that..

There are not enough stars... What a fabulous dining experience! I love the concept, and the execution. Sean and Keith have created something which feels unique and special - a fine dining experience which is relaxed and unpretentious, and fun! The concept: one long table which seats up to 10, in front of the kitchen, where you can watch and interact with the two chefs as they go about their business. The execution: ... And what business! Michelin star level food, all freshly prepared and dished out in front of you. It's fun - lots of fun - to watch how they efficiently and masterfully run their kitchen, dovetailing and complementing each other. They have perfected the timing of the evening - 7+ dishes over 4 hours, and it all just... Flows. Not rushed, not slow, just perfect. The food: next level. A riot of flavour, colour, and presentation. Every dish is distinctly different from the last, and the flavours... I don't have the words. Absolutely delicious from start to finish. (Note: there are no allowances for allergies / dislikes, so if you can't eat what is put in front of you this is not the restaurant for you.) I wanted to wipe every plate with my finger, it was hard letting even a sliver of the fabulous flavours return to the kitchen. I had the standard wine pairing, and it's a delight as Sean introduces you to each: the region, the grape, the vineyard, and the notes and tastes to expect. I'm not a seasoned expert, but each seemed perfectly paired with the dish it was matched to, and every wine was delicious. Excellent value for money. Sincere compliments and thanks to Sean and Keith, not just for the food but the entire experience. They are wonderful hosts, and create a real down-to-earth, relaxed atmosphere which enhances the evening. And they genuinely seem to be having fun while they do it! Embarrassing end note: I had the wine pairing, wifey did not. Yet somehow she left me to pay. No problem: take machine, enter tip, tap card. Only... Tip enters as pence, not pounds. Shambles. Sean, lovely bloke that he is, had the good grace not to react and acted like nothing had happened. Hopefully the 5 star review is small recompense - I'll make it up the next time I'm in town! Cannot recommend The Table highly enough. Everyone should try to experience it at least once. Might become an annual tradition for us!

Loved the well thought out details of the whole evening. Loved the chef and his knowledge for food and wine. Loved the people sitting next to me on both sides. A real treat.

Many hanks to brothers Shaun and Keith, who prepared a fabulous set of 7 highly creative courses, exquisitely presented, while answering questions from guests about their kit and techniques as desired. Flavours were innumerable, often juxtaposed or inside-out takes on the expected, all wonderful food experiences. Shaun's knowledge of paired wines was beautifully shared as were Keith's musical selections, sometimes accompanied by his very well tuned, hums whistles and voice. A memorable and highly recommended 8 thumbs up dining experience for 2 Canadian couples and 6 new friends! Well done!!

Full disclosure, we did not eat at The Table. We are staying at the AirBNB next door and got locked out. While we waited to get into our building, Sean from The Table and walked outside and talked to us about the restaurant and Edinburgh while we waited. He asked if we liked gin, and we said yes and he brought us out a round of gin drinks while we waited. The restaurant is clearly not just about the food, but also about service and hospitality. Which I truly appreciate. I won’t get to eat at The Table on this trip to Edinburgh but I will 100% make sure I do the next time I visit.

We had a great evening at The Table. The dishes were varied, delicious and beautifully presented.The wine pairings were great. And Sean's introductions about each dish and the wine were interesting and informative. The whole atmosphere was friendly, relaxed informal and welcoming.

Went here for a treat with my partner and couldn’t of had a better night! A perfect mix of incredible / inspired / fun / creative /cooked to perfection food, matched with the perfect wines, every time, in an easy and chilled out atmosphere. No pretentiousness just incredible skill, knowledge and service. Even the music takes you to places you never expected. 😁 would recommend - go right now. Chat to people!

"The table" is a surprise tasting menu for 10 guests (?) a night where there is only one seating. So, please respect the arrangement and be on time... allowing 10 mins at least for a settling down period. This is an interesting experience as the menu is only given out at the end of the meal (that's why it is very important to inform the restaurant any allergies you have) and you get to interact with other guests as its such an intimate and small seating layout. I would think most guests choosing this restaurant have similar dining experiences and expectations, very often similar interests as well, so, it is good to mingle with others. You will also get to see the chef in action throughout the evening and there is only one assistant (extremely cool guy with character!). Most of the courses/ingredients are almost fully prepared in advance (obviously a lot of work and effort have been put into the menu) and during the dinner, it is mainly the heating up, food construction and presentation that is done. Obviously, the chef will also interact with the guests as part of the experience. I will not reveal too much on the exact courses (as it is a surprise menu) but I am sure the focus will change as the seasonal ingredients become available. I am particularly impressed with the names/title of the courses and I was particularly surprised to see frog's legs in the menu. At times, I also felt like I was having a molecular cuisine which was so popular a decade ago. In every course, I was trying to work out what was put together and why it tasted like it was. Wine list was not too extensive as the focus was on the creative dishes. We chose an 2018 Italian Tenuta Olim Bauda Nizza as our bottle for the night. Overall, it was a very interesting and enjoyable dinner, with good music as well!

Extraordinary experience. Open kitchen format, small group (10?) seated in front of the prep/cooking area. Each course and wine pairing explained by the chef with detail, deep knowledge, and genuine, infectious enthusiasm and love of good food. Sean clearly cares deeply about the food and wine he serves (yes, you get to engage with the chef!), and he sources, preps, and prepares it with a level of integrity I thought had disappeared in the world. Each course, each bite even - it’s hard to put into words how legitimately incredible both the food and the wine were As an experience, wonderful - I went solo and by the end of the night was talking with the Scottish couple to my left and laughing with the American group of four friends to my right. Hands down a highlight of my time in Scotland. Do this, it will blow your mind!

This is a a great neighbourhood restaurant with delicious food, great ambiance and an affordable cocktail and wine list. Very happy that is has opened in the New Town.

A totally under the radar restaurant. My son booked this three years plus ago, and in the meantime, they'd updated their booking system and lost his. The chef sorted it personally and phoned him to confirm everything was OK. It's an auspicious start. We turned up outside the door with very discretion signage and were surprised to find it shut. Not to worry, it opened up on time, and we were invited in by the chef, Sean. It is a long, breakfast bar style eatery with only 10 customers per night, and the food is cooked right in front of you. Sean and his co-worker Keith got us in and settled down, then explained what would be happening, offering us drinks menus to choose from Once we had our drinks, the magic began. They started making the meal before us, Sean speaking with the customers and Keith quietly getting on, doning a white glove to set the cutlery and keeping everything running smoothly. They play a wide selection of music from the 50's through to the nineties while cooking as well. Sean explained what each course was as it was served and some background details about the food. Which is sublime. A very quick summary of our menu, it's highly likely yours will not be the same, but the quality will be. 1  canopes, minin madelime whisky cheese Deep fried olive hw 2 Starter frogs leg,pear garlic 3 biased ox cheek and polenta.  Melt in mouth 4 Haddock 5 guinea fowl 6 chicken liver cherry parfait and french toast/brioche cream 7  powdered caram1  canopes, minin madelime whisky cheese 1. Canapés. Deep fried olive with haggis was my favourite. 2 Starter frogs legs with pear and garlic 3 Braised ox cheek and polenta.  Melt in mouth 4 Haddock, it's not octopus in the photo but creamed Haddock. Sublime. 5 Guinea fowl 6 chicken liver cherry pate and french toast/brioche cream 7  Powdered caramel - a total Willy Wonka experience. 8  Eastern med.  Cinnamon cream,  pistachio coconut Turkish delight, filo pastry and sorbet Borghetti coffee liqueur, lovely. 9  Madeline, marshmallow raspberry,  gran mariner truffle 8  Eastern med.  Cinnamon cream,  pistachio coconut Turkish delight filo pastry and sorbet Borghetti coffee liqueur 9  Madeline, marshmallow raspberry,  grans mariner truffle. Once the meal is finished, the two guys are happy to chat while tidying up. Overall, it was an absolutely incredible eating experience. If you are in the happy position of being able to afford it, this is an absolute must if you are visiting Edinburgh. If, like me, you live here, then this is a bucket list restaurant for food lovers. They also have a new bistro just opened called "Under the table," which is directly underneath. Bookings open on the first of each month for the following month.

Wow, what an outstanding the place. As soon as you walk it the interior is welcoming and so are the wonderful staff. Thats just the beginning, the food is unreal, not one bad dish and between 5 of us, we tried them all. What I really couldn't believe was the price. You are not going to get that level of service, food and wine for that price anywhere else in Edinburgh. Also I am one for the odd long dinner, but that was in and out in less than two hours, and never felt rushed. Booked again for two days time. Highly recommend!

Superb, mesmerising, outstanding, wonderful - I could go on. From the canapés to dessert not a single off note - and mentioning notes, the music playlist is equally enticing. Dining out should be an experience, and this truly was one of the most memorable I've had. The team clearly have a great love and enthusiasm for what they do and it comes across. I really rather liked it.

An absolute must as a treat in Edinburgh! Went for a birthday meal and WOW! The atmosphere is just perfect with laid back music and everyone sat at bar style seating. Then the food - just AMAZING! It’s a 7 (but really 9) course menu - we got crab curry, salt stew, Mexican style pork, cheese course, Turkish inspired dessert; I’m doing none of these dishes justice as they were absolutely delicious & indescribable! Service is friendly & attentive thanks to Paul - great wine & whisky recommendations. Food & explaining your dishes from two talented chefs Sean and Keith. Honestly can’t recommend enough for a fine dining experience without the pomp but with all the deliciousness!

Food was outstanding, the guys are great fun and talked us through each course, good music, pairing wines were lovely and each one was explained in great detail.

Second time around for me and it did not disappoint. In fact, they have upped the ante with the addition of a wine guy, Paul. Very exciting to hear about the wine selection for each course from such a knowledgeable person. The chef, Sean, continues to amaze me. Add Keith who is so sweet and knows the words to every song and voila, you’ve got a trio that is an extremely well oiled machine. The interesting configuration of this restaurant guarantees that you are able to interact with this trio, all of good humor and you’re guaranteed to have one fun time and eat amazing, creative food. Don’t miss this place, it is an experience like no other.

Absolutely amazing experience! Left with not only with fully satisfied taste puds and a full belly but feeling utterly spoilt and entertained. 100% recommend and have already rebooked! Only place that I could think for room for improvement would be to have little more variety for non alcoholic drinks.

We booked for our dad's 70th, and had a great time. Such a different experience to any other place in Edinburgh because of the intimacy and interaction with the team. Food was excellent and very interesting. I am not a regular eater of this calibre of food but the thought and preparation that goes into each dish was very impressive and has made me want to go back again. I have reviewed The Table many times and sound a bit like a broken record as my reviews are consistently very good; this was no exception. We visited The Table just before Christmas as an early treat for ourselves. It had been a while since we were there but it hasn’t missed a beat. The ambience, welcome and food were just exceptional. This was the first time we had met Paul the sommelier, who clearly knows his stuff and further strengthens the team. I took the wine flight which matched the tasting menu perfectly. As a picture paints a thousand words I have attached pictures of the various courses. Everything was delicious and we particularly liked the Thai crab dish. Hopefully it won’t be too long until we return. Thanks to Sean, Keith and Paul for a lovely evening.

I honestly don’t know what to say. Fantastic from start to finish. The is so much knowledge shared from Paul about the wine and Sean about the food and both seem really passionate about what they are doing. The food was absolutely fantastic I cannot fault it in anyway and the experience as a whole was up there with one of my favourite evenings ever. We had lots of laughs, some lovely wine - although I didn’t do the wine pairing my partner did and said it was amazing - and some absolutely fantastic food that I didn’t want to end. The evening lasted around 4 hours in total. I would comment on my stand out course, but everything was amazing. Even the things I wouldn’t normally eat! Will return to Edinburgh purely to experience the Table again. It was an absolutely outstanding night. Thank you!

Really fantastic experience. The food was amazing - and suprisingly I ate everything even though I'm a bit of a picky eater and there are no menu choices. I was also very full going home, rare for fine dining experiences. Really nice, relaxed vibe, and the playlist was immaculate!

Wow, absolutely impressed. I had no idea food could taste that good! I travel a lot and always try to make it to the local Michelin star rated restaurants in the area. This was by far the best dinning experience I have had. The food was mind blowing, service was amazing and atmosphere was terrific. Watching the chef and his crew work was highly entertaining. Only thing to be aware of is that this 7+ course meal is served over a 4 hour dining experience. It is well worth the time, just be prepared to budget the time.

By far, the best dining experience not to be missed. Sean and his team have created the perfect evening of stunning, revelatory cooking, pared with gorgeous drinks, great conversation, beautiful setting and cooked with a healthy dollop of rock and roll. Loved it!

We had the best experience last night! So glad I booked this as a treat for my husband on our first wedding anniversary. Sean, Keith and Paul were amazing; such a wonderful presentation and intimate atmosphere. Something we couldn’t really afford but I’m glad we pushed the boat out… we consumed 3 bottles of wine between us so the ending of the night is pretty hazy! I wasn’t full up but the food was delicious and excellently executed. Such great characters. Something we will always remember. Cheers guys!

Went to this restaurant last night and booked a month in advance since there are only 10 people allowed to dine. This was my birthday celebration and it was one of the best meals and experiences. Chef Sean and Paul were great hosts and each dish and wine pairing was amazing-we even received a goodie bag to take home with us! Everyone was so welcoming and friendly too. This was a memorable experience and a highlight to our trip in beautiful Scotland!

We loved everything about our evening at The Table. So much fun to watch the chefs work, sip wine, listen to great tunes, chat with the host/chefs and fellow guests, and of course enjoy delicious and beautifully-presented food. 11/10 from us!

Wow! Sean, Paul and Keith are immensely talented. We are so glad that we were able to spend an evening at The Table on our recent trip to Edinburgh. It was by far the best food we had in Europe, but it is more that that. It is truly an experience. We enjoyed talking to Sean about the food preparation and his background with the restaurant. Paul, who we mistakenly confused for a Frenchman, which was found to be widely humorous, is superbly knowledge about the wine and seems to sincerely enjoy what he does. Bonus - The music was great. Eclectic variety of songs that complimented the atmosphere, at least for us. We would most certainly dine here again if back in Edinburgh. One of a kind meal!

Last night was the fanciest dinner I’ve ever been to. Which is ironic, because it was also the most low-key. I could have worn jeans. I think that’s a sign of true class and quality-the absence of pretension. Anyways, it was an absolutely fabulous, intimate meal cooked right in front of us, in a restaurant that only seats 10, and was fully staffed with 3. The bar where everyone sits overlooked the entire kitchen down to the dishwasher. The music was wonderful and the atmosphere was perfect. The chef was gifted, the sous chef was hilarious, and the waiter was accommodating of our sober lifestyle while making sure we were included and happy. We felt like a king and queen but family at the same time. An experience we’ll never forget.

Came here from the States on our honeymoon. This was some of the most delicious food I’ve ever had in my life. The music was amazing, the atmosphere was unpretentious, and you could fell the chef’s passion for each creation.

We so enjoyed our night at “The Table”. It was a menu perfectly curated and delivered with top notch ingredients, culinary wizardry and a true delight to the senses. We enjoyed every course! It is accompanied by an amazing music playlist, that saw the chefs singing and quite possibly swaying to the music while cooking. The venue is intimate and if you are lucky you meet some fantastic people enjoying the experience as well. Go, do this…you will never regret it.

Absolutely brilliant experience tonight with Sean and his brother, who cooked all the courses in front of us. The food prepared was absolutely spectacular, we enjoyed every course and the explanations of the food preparation before each course was equally interesting. Thoroughly enjoyed our night.

Words can’t describe this dining experience, you just need to visit! The food is a flavour sensation from start to finish and the interaction with Sean is amazing. Keith and Paul are superb co-hosts and the eclectic musical soundtrack makes for a totally relaxed evening....

Great evening to enjoy an intimate dinner with 10 people and have a lot of interaction with the chef and sommelier. All were very interesting and knowledge able about food, wine and spirits. The food was an interesting mix of local foods with modern twists....

The Table is a solidly good time. Most every dish is delightful, some fail, the premium wine pairing is very well done and chef/owner Sean Clark is both talented and entertaining. The added delight might be the paired musical playlist that adds an additional element of fun. I recommend booking a group of friends for this experience and interact as much as you can.

The Table was a truly fantastic dining experience. The doors opened at 7 and every moment for the next 3 and a half hours was incredible. The service, wine and atmosphere were all spot on but the food was the real star. Fine dining food...

Rates as one of the best meals we have ever had and the overall experience is the best we have had. The food and matching wines were described in passionate detail, this man knows his stuff. In a line THE best dinning experience I've had. The food was excellent as we're the wine pairings, the atmosphere, conversation and the service. Having eaten at other Michelin rated restaurants The Table is easily top of my list! I'll definately be telling everyone to visit.

We found this place after searching for a tasting menu and certainly weren’t disappointed. Both Sean and Keith were knowledgeable and polite. Been a while ago, and what an experience. Great relaxed atmosphere and chatting with the chefs. Food was surprising, inventive, resourceful and a joy to eat. Setting is unusual but works well and is a bit of an event (but not pretentious). Will book again if I manage to get in!

Absolutely loved our evening. This quirky restaurant has everything you could want for a special night out. The food is an absolute treat, it's innovative, delicious and made by the most talented chefs. Decor, service and music were all spot on. And we were even given a little treat bag when we left! Highly recommended!

I had one of the best meals of my life here. The first course consisted of three small surprisingly delicious inventions, and the meal continued to get better from there. I particularly liked the artichoke in the fish course (who knew artichoke could taste like that!), and the pork course was excellent. When we got to the final dessert course, I almost cried because of how good the chocolate-and-fruit-based dish tasted. The meal took around 4 hours. The food and experience was extraordinary.

**I HAVE NOT EATEN HERE!**I found this restaurant online while searching for restaurants in Edinburgh to take my mother in law on her birthday. She would love this. I was so excited when I saw there was still space for us and went to book immediately. Thankfully, I double-checked the website before I booked. My 3-star rating is to express my disappointment that in 2022, there is no option for a vegetarian... I understand that this is a small restaurant but it seems that with advance notice and the small number of people it would be simple enough to offer meatless alternatives 😔

One of the best meals I've eaten in Edinburgh, a small and cozy venue and watching the chef's prep and serve the food was a real treat. Also we had the wine flight and every wine was delicious, I'd recommend the pairing and Sean really knows his stuff. Would go back there in a heartbeat if we can get a space!

We have been so excited to get a table this January. We had tried before but had to postpone during the pandemic, so our anticipation had built for nearly two years - and we were not disappointed. The experience (and it is that) is incredible. You will not just be treated to one of the best meals in your life, but have a long evening filled with joy and deliciousness. The food was phenomenal - including one the best dishes I have ever eaten (a venison dish). Excellent wine pairings as well that really worked so well with the food. We loved it! Thank you!

Another great visit to The Table with friends. I have reviewed this restaurant several times but this time in particular the food was outstanding. A copy of the menu and pictures of the courses are attached. The highlight was the risotto which was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere created in this intimate format is second to none. Highly recommended.

Absolutely one of my best dining experiences ever. My wife and I demolished every dish with a wide smile! We’ve experienced tastes here, that we’ve never experienced before. Our pallets are more experienced now than ever before. Also, do the wine pairing flights. You get a story with each one!

Superb experience - only 10 covers, all eating at one sitting along a bar in front of the kitchen….only one chef plus sous doing the prep, cooking, plating, serving.Excellent food, well prepared with interesting interactions with the kitchen.Not stupidly priced either for such good food. Hard earned cash for the staff!Food is full on fine dining - appropriate to the price point. Too many tasting courses to explain, but I loved them all.It’s a difficult place to get a booking and it’s understandable why!
