Service was incredibly. I was served by Georgia and she was amazing!! So attentive and kind. Food was good but made even better by our waitress!

The pub looks great inside and the food was lovely the team were all nice and friendly the chefs were good had a chat with me and my friend

The food was great all hot my children had pizza thay were very impressed I must say the team were great and the chef mat was chatty while he cared the meat

Very disappointed with breakfast this morning Friday 16th August. Got to the tollgate about 9:10 just 10 minutes after opening. We ordered breakfast and everything was cold. Must have been cooked really early that morning.

Had Carvery with 2 of my sons staff were friendly & helpful and the Food was excellent & delicious the meats were cooked to perfection really enjoyed it

The restaurant or bar wasn't too busy but we decided to stay + have dinner. Grace, behind the bar was extremely helpful with my app for 'stone house'. Emily, cooked our food which was very well presented & fresh. All-in-all a very enjoyable experience. A☆☆☆☆

We were having a carvery and we’re in the vicinity of the tollgate it was very quiet inside but the staff were welcoming . We went to get our carvery and he cut some beef for us but the vegetables looked very dry and certainly not appetising! Then there was a fly going in and off the food which I brought to the chefs attention . I know he can’t control when a fly comes in but perhaps should have covered the food . The food was just about warm so not so good . 3 out of 10 Won’t be returning .

Very nice meal. Server, Paula, was very helpful and polite and Justin serving food was very professional. The food was good and good value for money.

We often come here after a busy day for a hearty , good value carvery. For the price, I can’t fault it. You can also often find some sort of deal online - so check before you visit. They also do nice pizzas. The decor has been significantly updated in recent years so it’s a pleasant, modern environment compared to how I remember it from years gone by. The staff are always kind.

Amazing pizza and carvery and staff were so accommodating! Recommend to anyone staying nearby, takeaway is an option also!

Just had a takeaway delivery of 1 turkey and 1 beef Sunday lunches both dinners had 4 burnt roast potatoes black.turkey dinner 1 piece of turkey beef dinner had 3 small fatty bits of beef and 2 big pots of gravy both only a quarter full and all food was cold

What a fabulous breakfast you get here. I have written many reviews about this restaurant in the past and it is a consistently good place to eat. The food, parking, staff and ambience is just perfect. I would recommend the breakfast her to anyone!

Absolutely awful experience, very little food items ready and what was there was either cold or dregs. Worst breakfast we have had. Staff were not at all friendly or welcoming, no hospitality at all.

Would not recommend at all and not SEN child friendly!! Went with my sister ,my daughter and my nephew 3 rude ignorant old ladies sat mumbling amongst themselves about our children after finishing their dinner for about 30 minutes obviously nothing better to do on an Sunday afternoon who then left the manager then come storming in shouting to me and my sister about our kids so the whole restaurant could hear may I add that people were leaving because of our children and then spoke to our children in a vile matter that we would be kicked out if they didn’t sit down and shut up! My sister said well I will be asking for a refund since I’ve paid the manager then replied in a rude sarcastic tone ‘that’s fine’ disgraceful customer service may I add the waitress Yaa was so so lovely throughout our meal coming over trying to interact with our children giving them colouring books and pencils

Homely and comfortable. Came for lunch time carvery which was great and even pushed out the boat and went for the large lol. Head chef mat and his team make you feel welcome and go out there way to ensure you enjoy your experience.

11 family members arrived for sunday lunch,waited a long time for drinks to arrive.while waiting in the carvery que we noticed the chef kept dissapearing for minutes on end..ran out of roast potatoes twice and cauliflower cheese before we were even served.then the chef dissapeared for over 15 minutes leaving a very angry que of familys with children..then the roast pits ran out again(another 9 minute wait). We complained to a very rude and un-interested manager who just said ‘were understaffed’ meal was cold and greasy..we will never go again…find somewhere/anywhere else to go if i were you

Lovely food we had carvery and desserts jade was very helpful and suggested a pudding the salted caramel sunday and it was lovely will deffo come back again.

We went for breakfast yesterday. What can I say, it was SO good. The food was cooked to perfection and was simply gorgeous - a huge well done to the Chef. Those sausages were absolutely awesome! Plenty of parking, seats, hot drinks, gorgeous sausages, bacon, eggs, tonatos, beans, waffles, black pudding, breakfast pizza and a choice of breads for toasting, even a choice of butter or margarine! Try it

Haven’t been to the tollgate for some time as it had gone downhill with food quality, cleanliness, and slow staff. Thought we’d give it a try today for a Sunday carvery. The drinks came. Ginger ale ordered . Neither bottle opened. Lemonade and orange came unstirred . Today there were more staff and it definitely looks cleaner, but the food was poor. I had beef which was stringy and grisly. The sprouts were rock hard and the food looked like and tasted that it had been there for a week. In addition to that it was cold . Nil points from us. We won’t be going again .

The Breakfast at the Tollgate never fails to amaze me. We vote with our feet and we come for the perfect start to our weekend every Saturday. The food is always gorgeous, the staff are attentive and courteous, the parking is plentiful and free, there is a relaxed atmosphere that is not present in other venues. Matt and Paula run a wonderful venue and it is a pleasure to come here at the weekend. I don't want to single out any one member of staff as such but Justin does cook such amazing sausages and bacon.

We come here quite a lot for a carvery, usually on a Sunday. There is one particular waitress called Caz who is very accommodating. Nothing is too much trouble and she is always very polite and welcoming.

We walked into the the tollgate, and was greeted with do you know what you want, and told to find a table, I asked for the manager as we couldn't believe how we had been greeted, the manager June came over, she wasn't really bothered either, she did say that she would be dealing with us, she never came to you, so we left, disgusting service

Cheap and cheerful. Tasty and does the job. Staff are what make it..friendly..attentive and do anything for you. Meat was delicious..I prefer my food warmer bit at quiet periods I know this must be tricky to achieve as it sits under heat lamps..cheese sauce dries up on cauliflower..my favourite..so I would appreciate it if that could somehow be sorted but other than that, I love it here!

Went for a quick nearby drink. The lady that was serving my sisters left midway through them enquiring whether they could order drinks, to rudely and arrogantly attend to something more pressing, which defies the mind that they're was something to do as the place was empty, actually empty. Anyway, another member of staff then came to the bar who was about as welcoming as a brick in the face, to coldly advise that they no longer served shots as there was no demand any longer (we'd have happily had a different drink but fancied an xmas shot, but we were made to feel very unwelcome) - no sh@t, this place was empty, the staff were so cold and so unwelcoming and no wonder no one ever drinks here as the bar staff just didn't want to serve drinks, be welcoming or do anything that might make us want to have a drink here. Worse place I've ever been to and I've known some horrible places. Avoid this place at all costs unless you like rude staff, empty and unatmospheric bars and the feeling that you are just not welcome.

Came here for a Christmas lunch with a large group of friends. I have to say my expectations weren’t high. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Service was good and food also and nothing was too much trouble. We were seated in a room away from the Main pub and it was festively decorated. Staff were really accommodating and friendly and for the price we paid I could not fault it.

Ate at this restaurant 4 days ago. Left this long to review to calm down when I think of the experience. At the outset I will say the food is very good - when (if)you get it, and therein lies the problem. Booked for 13:00, arrived 15 minutes early. Order placed off the 'Festive Menu' for starters (which needed to be explained to the waiter) at 13:04. 1 x Prawn Cocktail, 5 soups (3 vegetarian - with mozzarella pinwheels, 2 vegan with brown bread) with the traditional carvery for mains. Chased the waiter for the starters for 40 minutes before the first 3 soups arrived, followed by the prawn cocktail a few minutes later. The vegan soups arrived after another 5 - 10 minutes without the bread (but with mozzarella pinwheels). The bread never arrived. Then queued for the carvery - a queue of about 15 people took 20 minutes or more.Reason for such slow and awful service? We were told the restaurant was prioritising Online delivery orders, ignoring the customers in the restaurant sat at the tables (same went for carvery). Presumably because we were already trapped and couldn't go elsewhere. We didn't have time for desserts, so the restaurant also lost further revenue (we got a refund on our starters). It would be good if the restaurant realised that they pay rates on the tables. If people using them realise they are second class citizens and just start ordering on line for delivery, they wont buy drinks or pay those rates.

This is the complaint/observation sent to Stonehouse (slightly edited). Whether a response is received I'm not holding my breath.The Sunday meal was booked as a culmination of a family weekend when the family came together for Christmas, and the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic - the Festive 3-course menu. We arrived, then the problems began:1. Despite booking a table for 6, on arrival one wasn't prepared and tables were joined accordingly2. Having been seated we were told that someone would be along to take a drinks order - they never arrived. The first person came to take the food order - 15 mins plus after sitting down3. Starters were ordered, Tomato soup x5 and 1x Prawn Cocktail. Despite several approaches, including to the Manager, these didn't arrive for 1/2 hour, and were then not correct. When questioning the delay we were told the 'chef is prioritising the Online delivery orders'4. We decided not to wait for the puddings As a restaurant, also doing deliveries, I was surprised that online deliveries were taking precedence over seated customers especially having booked, and that this seems to be the norm. To finish on a positive, the food - one received - was really good: well cooked, tasty and plenty of choice and quality. Just a pity the service let the whole thing down.

Had a few breakfasts here. Never been disappointed met up with old workmates great time had by all. I made a point of congratulating the chef, great value, great food.

We went there last night for a 40th birthday meal. The service was poor, they'd 'ran out of burgers' apparently, hmm.... I ordered fish and chips and waited for nearly an hour to be served an awful 'meal' of burnt horrible fish that looked like it was an Iceland frozen one, horrendous oven chips but at least the mushy peas were ok. as for our drinks, the cup of tea was stone cold, the squash was weak and watery, my beer was undrinkable, the worst pint I've ever had in fact. We had to make the best of a really bad night, despite the awful food and drink.The Toll Gate used to be alright but now it's terrible. We were the last ones to leave the pub at 8P.M and the place was empty apart from the staff. That says a lot.Avoid this pub at all costs.

Arrived expecting the usual new restaurant experienced staff, but shocked when we were asked to decide and pay immediately without even seeing a menu!!! We got there early at 6pm and we’re told that they only had gammon left!! Absolutely no charge to the old restaurant, pay and help yourself..The worst experience and couldn’t wait to leave..

In a nutshell this is how are visit went. Went up to get the kids first, waited 15minutes for someone to acknowledge us, then said that we needed to wait for the sausages to be cooked. Waited for said sausages to be cooked and went up to be told sorry you’ll have to wait longer because now the chef is making 5 pizzas. Eventually got the kids dinners after 45mins. Then we, the adults went up for ours. Was charged for a full carvery and then extra for pigs in blankets for there to be no roast potatoes and no pigs in blankets also no gravy only vegetable gravy. Vegetables had seen better days too. No apology or explanation. Avoid this place at all cost.

Carvery was recommended to me so decided to visit today. In a nut shell the only bit of my food that was hot was the roast potatoes. Cold turkey cold gravy cold vegetables. Never again.

This place just gets better and better. We visited this morning for breakfast, 4 of us and the 4 of us loved it. The food is amazing, the staff are a delight and there is plenty of parking and is Covid secure. Self service is back which made a nice change and is another step nearer to normality. I visit here twice a week and always bring a group of friends or family and they always leave satisfied.

Lovely meal the roast beef and turkey were delicious roast potatoes were lovely and crispy definitely have the cavery again.

I feel sad leaving this reveiw but I have never had such terrible service or disgusting food .a table of 6 quickly seated waited 15 minutes for some one to take our drink order a further 10 minutes to receive them .the place was so hot when asked about opening a window was told only 1 opens .we asked several times when can we get our food please to which each time was told when chief says its our turn 1 hour exactly after our booked in time was we allowed to get food guy carving the meat nice and friendly move on to the veg etc the server was shocking he literally slopped our food on the plate the food was mostly empty so scrapping round the edge I asked for gravey and again slopped on absolutely shocking service which was the same for the other 5 of my party .The food well where to start carrots tasted weird mash was lumpy roast potatoes bunt sausage like rubber cauliflower undercooked and a splash of gravey .the meat was lovely .I have ate here several times although most weeks we use the walsgrave where its excellent service&food .then we needed to pay but none of the servers new where we are to pay!!!! After walking around the pub looking for anyone who new what they were doing a poor pregnant girl carrying a stack of plates said she would find someone to help us we eventually went to the bar then the server said oh no your paying cash we need to go the other till .honestly it was shambolic you either need a customer service course for them to attend and maybe a cookery course also .shambolic was the politest word I can use

We arrived at 3 but didnt get seen till 3:30 and the place was dead . A women took our order for drinks but then left them on the bar so we had to go down and ask for them in the end . The women gave a rude remark when asked if i could get my food for the kids so they could start eatting as we where waiting for food to be cooked this took an hour in the end . The amazing manger on shift stepped in and really was helpful he really did change the experiance for us as we where reluctant about coming back again . Well done to the manager he was fantastic :)

Arrived at 6.30 pm on Monday 17 May and had our meal delivered at 7.20 pm. not very hot. Beef very poor. The salad was quite small and my chips were cold. We decided to have a pudding offered on the specials at £1.99. However when my husband went to pay the bill he was charged £4 25 for his trifle. When he asked about this he was told that they had taken if off the menu (how come it was still on!. The crust on the apple pie was very stodgy and the apple was uncooked. One of our guests strawberry sponge was burnt in one corner. We were not happy with our meals, and will not be visiting you again.

The Tollgate breakfast is back! Four of us went this morning and all were so impressed. The food was delicious and the hot drinks unlimited, the service was first class and the staff were so friendly and accommodating. This wonderful place has been in lockdown and it was so good to visit again, done me a power of good. Do yourself a favour and go get a breakfast there and set yourself up for the whole day. Heartily recommended.

Booked a family meal on lockdown eve and appreciate the problems that establishments are going through at the moment. However, after attempting to order on three separate occasions we were repeatedly informed that items were not available-why not tell us what is and what is not available to start off with. Very frustrating which ended up with leaving the premises.
