Food was great, couldn't fault the service either. They are dog friendly, we called ahead to make sure and they gave us a table in the bar area with a window. Chef even made a burger for our two small dogs to share. Chicken supreme was incredible, could have eaten another plate. Would definitely come back next time we visit, thanks for a lovely evening.

We had a fabulous meal, we had the chicken and it was really good.

15 years ago this place was amazing, we would visit at least twice a month. Unfortunately the food is now very average masquerading as something better, and consequently overpriced....... It's very sad because The Toad was a much loved place to both eat and drink especially at weekends for locals, I suspect there has been a change of ownership and/or management. Sadly we won't be eating there again, but fondly remember how it used to be. ADDITION TO REVIEW: Peter you knew us.....we tipped you extremely well every visit, we brought all our family, friends and business acquaintances to eat at The Toad. Your passive aggressive response to my review is childish and doesn't paint you in a good light, that isn't how I remember you. You weren't present on the evening we visited (16.02.23) and I think you may have been shocked yourself if you had been sitting where we were.....my "vague" review was because I wanted to be honest but not personal. You had a great product, I miss it that's all......Good luck moving forward.

We were visiting colwyn bay and googled places to eat, the photos and reviews here looked amazing but I can assure you the food was nothing like !! Having been a chef for 30 years myself it was another typical overpriced “ gastro pub “ promising restaurant food but not living up to the mark - the wild mushrooms on the chicken dish were deep fried and chewy , nice produce ruined !!! No potato included in the dish just a celeriac fondant vegetable claiming to be a carb!! Veg over cooked and not great selection , all this for £18 per head - the best thing about the meal was the dessert to be honest !

Had a Valentines day lunch and it was fabulous. Great food and great service. Chocolate brownie desert was the best I've had. An excellent range of food and drinks on menu. Been going to The Toad for over 35 years. Never been disappointed.

Lovely Sunday lunch. Decent portions. Both had Roast beef. Friendly and attentive staff. Good location. Clean, and nice cosy decor If you have poor mobility the steps up are quite steep, so please bare this in mind, if you cant get up stairs.

Had my second meal here on New Year's Eve, very good food, atmosphere and service, the downside was it stated it would be open until 7pm when we received our sweet which took a while to arrive and only brought 1 instead of two at 5.55pm to be told they was closing at 6pm, we hurried our sweet and drinks because we was the only customers left and didn't want to hold the staff up from tiding up.

Highly recommend this restaurant. What a first class meal we had today at The Toad, totally impromptu and ticked all the boxes. Great service from our waiter Aaron - we will definitely be calling in again soon. What a hidden gem we have on our doorstep. Thank you.

Food so good I had the vegan option with cauliflower steak . It’s was really tasty and the presentation excellent . They have recently renovated inside and it’s look really lovely . We sat by the window with a lovely view out to sea .

Called in for lunch after a visit to the beach. Modern pub with lovely views over the sea front. We ordered fish and chips which were delicious and reasonably priced. Service was good and our dog was made welcome. Best pub we found within the local area, would recommend.

The Toad does food brilliantly these days. My wife and I have been a few times since the relaunch and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Service is top notch too. Can't really pick out a specific dish as they're all nice and well done. Staff are great too. Will be returning in the new year with my brother and sister in law (who'll be reading this! Hello Mark!).

We have always loved the food here but since been taken over and re -decorated etc it’s just perfect! The ambience, staff and food is 10/10

Went for Christmas day dinner with family.The food was absolutely stunning.Arrived hot,sooooo tasty and just the right timing between courses.Staff were very friendly and attentive.Lovely,relaxed atmosphere.We all enjoyed it(even the Northern soul background music).Couldn't fault a thing and can't wait to go back.You all did yourselves proud.Will be looking out for next years booking times for sure.Loved,loved,loved it.Compliments to the Chef/chefs.Thank you all for making my Christmas special.

Lovely place but service was a bit slow

Just wanted to say thank you for a lovely meal. We enjoyed one of the nicest Sunday roasts ever, this evening. Everything was perfectly cooked, hot and very tasty. Fabulous Yorkshires ! The staff were very friendly & helpful. Will definitely be back soon.

Great food, good service and friendly

Went for a Sunday lunch. Had the beef. This was possibly the best beef dinner I have ever had. Everything on the plate was good by itself, but together was so so delicious. Small inside and I would recommend making a reservation. Very comfortable with great sea views.

Stopped on a whim for a Sunday roast and so glad we did! Best pub roast I've had in years - all the veg, all the trimmings and giant Yorkshires to boot. Great service too. We'll be back!

This was our first visit to The Toad. The service and food was amazing and the food was piping hot. I had the crispy pork belly, lovely crispy crackling meat was so soft and the pickled red cabbage was gorgeous. (I need the recipe for Christmas Day) 😂. My husband had the Toad steak pie, he said it was delicious. Would definitely recommend this pub

Group party , 23 of us, starters served then mains, timing was brilliant in between starters and main course, all food was amazing, asked around the whole group how was the food and service all answered amazing and they would come again. The food was amazing as was the service, we will 100% be returning ❤️ when we next visit Wales in December. The meal for 3 including drinks £115 very reasonable.

Had the most amazing meal, well presented, staff were courteous, attentive without being intrusive. I had the sea bass hubby had the belly pork. We will definitely be back !

We were squeezed in at the last minute and got the best service. Despite one of our party arriving an hour late, we were still greeted with smiles all round. Fantastic location, free street parking, sea views and a great atmosphere! The Sunday lunch was fantastic, the lamb was amazing! We couldn’t recommend this place enough. Thank you, we will be back!

The food on Saturday evening was excellent, and great service. Sitting in the large bay window it wasn't the warmest, but they had blankets available!

The starters were ok, the main was an extremely dry welsh beef pie. It tasted like chicken, I couldn’t finish the meal, unfortunately.

Called here for lunch without any preconceived notion of what was to come. Great location beautiful food and good service from very friendly staff. A great introduction to a visit to Colwyn Bay in a very relaxed atmosphere.

Dined here twice and couldn't fault the food or service. The setting is perfect and some tables have fabulous views over Rhos-on-sea beach. One day I ordered the Sea Bass main course which was cooked perfectly; the fish was moist and tasted fresh. The choclate and orange cheesecake was delicious and presented to a very high standard. The second day I ordered the steak pie which was also tasty. Quite a dry filling but the quantity of jus was just right to help allieviate any perceived dryness. The sticky toffee pudding (STP) was served with a delicious date purée. If you're looking to dine in the area I would highly reccommend booking in advance as it seems to get busy.

Food was lovely, party of 5 and we all agreed, menu was different, cooked and served well. I had the roasted garlic mushrooms, orange infused pesto, sourdough toast to start, tasty, and the beef cooked two ways for my main. The steak on it was just how I asked for it, beautiful. Staff were pleasant and attentive, atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. The decor makes you want to stay a while. Toilets are clean, always a good sign! I have booked to go again.

Service and food was excellent, we both had the beef two ways and it was fabulous. My only observation would be that in a gastropub there is always a place for a simple steak and chips.!!

Came at about 4pm on a Sunday, took a chance on trying to dine and the manger did everything in his power to get us a table, booked us a table for 5 and as we waited outside for a drink let us know a table had become available. We all had the beef sunday dinner and it was amazing. One of the best sunday dinners we’ve had and will definitely be back :)

Amazing spot for some really nice food and great views

Good food with varied menu. Pleasant atmosphere with good views out to sea. Access up steps so may be difficult for disabled. Small car park but plenty on street of parking nearby. Many gluten free options.

First time back herd following it's closure due to Las year's fire. The decor is superb 👌 and the food was delicious 😋 . We all had the Welsh Lamb which melted in the mouth and the accompaniments were delicious. ❤️❤️ The only niggle was thd staff only addressed we "guys" and not the girls. Please drop this Yankee annoyance, we're male and female.

On our recent visit to the toad We walked in at 650pm asked for a table for two ! The menu for food looked amazing The young lady behind the bar was nice and friendly offers us a table At 5 to 7 we tried to order some food and was told by the chap they stop serving at 7 🤔 but we could by drinks ! It wasn’t 7 ?? I left this place just asking myself what time they actually stop serving ?? Maybe they should have a sign outside that’s clear and states what time they actually stop taking orders for food The refurnished pub looks great just a shame it wasn’t busy ! With attitude like the one we was presented with it’s no wonder the place was empty Very disappointed

Stopped by for a light bite and a pint of Orchard Cider (after seeing the umbrellas outside). Interior looks great after the post fire redurb. Far more room than the outside might imply. Main menu looked like standard fste so we decided to go for 3 lite bites to share as they looked far more promising. We had battered sausage with a mustard sauce, an excellent chopped battered squid with a katsu curry drizzle and a scotch egg with mackerel instead of sausage meat. All £7ish each, cider was £5, Cruscampo about the same. There is also a popup takeaway about to open below (at street level) which holds further promise of lite bites to go.

Hmm, on the whole I am going to say disappointing. The Toad has been refurbished well, and the staff were attentive but the menu is uninspiring and there are issues. Let's start with the positives. Hubbie said his carrot aand orange soup was a bit strange, but OK. Portion size was generous. 3x fried chips were soft in the middle, crunchy on the outside so, good. At £18 the haddock was overpriced! The tartar sauce wasn't. Tartar contains capers, tick, but also boiled egg yolk, gherkin, parsley and lemon juice and certainly no red onion. This 'home made' creation just tasted of onion in mayonnaise. But at least it tasted of something. When the food arrived, it was on a cold plate, and was completely unseasoned. The fish batter, tasteless. The pea puree had a mild background hint of raw pea, no miso hit as promised. Generally poor! Loos are clean, views are good but so, so really. We won't be back.

Disappointed! Bland food served on a cold plate. Staff were friendly and a good job has been done refurbing the place since the arson attack last year but it isn't a pub anymore but a restaurant with a bar, and the restaurant isn't great! Uninspiring menu. Advertises home made tartar, but served sliced onion in mayonnaise with a little caper. Lose the onion, put in the parsley, gherkin, egg yolk and lemon juice chef! Miso pea puree was bland and tasted raw. Chips were good!

We had dinner here the evening of 21st Sept 2023 while visiting Rhos. The whole experience was excellent, a great mix of informality of people at the bar and diner's such as us. We paid £36 for two delicious main courses of chicken supreme and belly pork. Swift response when I asked for a sharper knife for al dente veg.

Overall Experience - great place for takeaway 1. Crispy pork with couscous - couscous cooked well with curry, pork is succulent, skin is crispy, highly recommended, portion is a bit small 2. Fish bites - abit blend in the inside 3. Service - very friendly staff 4. Serving time - 20 mins 5. Affordability - £7.50 for most items 6. Atmosphere - sunny and clean

I rang this place having got a phone number for a pizza place online. I wanted to book, so rang the number on Google and then was told in a very blunt fashion that I’d got the wrong number before the phone was slammed down. I rang back to say that this was very rude and once again had the phone put down on me. The next time round, this person started making excuses saying it was a bad line. She then went silent before again, putting the phone down. Courtesy costs nothing. Manners cost nothing. If the food is as good as their attitude, I’d probably not bother.

We were a little reluctant to ask about taking the dog in for an evening meal here as when we walked in the decor didn’t look like a place that allowed dogs. Called for a drink first and a few items caught our eye, so asked if we could come the following evening for a meal ( it was our anniversary, and usually we are on holiday abroad at this time and we don’t have the dog with us, so we were resigned to a pub type lunch rather than an evening meal). The staff explained that dogs were allowed, and yes we could go the following evening, but they had a very large party so we would have to come early, agreed 1830. On arrival we were given a table in the bar area which was a great space for the whippet (who likes to stand up all the time and nosey at everyone when in a pub). I had starter, Tracey opted for desert…. Garlic mushrooms for my starter, one Pan fried Chicken supreme, and the Beef two ways were both excellent …. Both of us had plenty, good quality too. Strawberry cheesecake for Tracey’s starter…. Very good. I would most definitely Recommend the Mini Mi Rose’….. could possibly have drunk 2 bottles…..great wine! Service was good too. A large party did arrive ( possibly 20?) yet it didn’t affect the service we received. The owner/manager was very busy,, yet neither he nor the staff were “invisible, or over fussy” perfect!. A good choice of beer, Lager….. and Blue Moon! (Just perfect!). The outside area was busy when we walked past most days, and has a small Deli/tapas type outlet alongside (May not be owned by the Toad) Most certainly will return here. Will most definitely return.

We went to this pub while staying in Colwyn bay… there is a lovely sitting area on the beach front which was very pleasant.. The food was actually gorgeous.. we have had. Few hit and miss meals in pubs during our visit to Wales. This one was by far the best … I had the belly pork and my husband had the chicken supreme… both where absolutely delicious.. fresh perfectly cooked grey pub food.. I would most definitely return…

Popped in for a late lunch and The Toad was up to its usual high standard. Great food, good service. There is nothing run of the mill here. Everything fresh and well seasoned.

Lovely pint at lunchtime today in the sunshine. Brilliant young waitress definitely coming back again next week. The Shack food looks amazing. As husband can’t walk far, an idea for the future maybe to have a minibus shuttle service from Rhos to Toad. More people will spend money on drinks and then food. Thank you.

Lovely interior and decor but the welcome and service from staff didn’t match the restored Toad . We are a family of 6 including two young children and had requested high chairs in our booking request , this appeared to be the first challenge for...

Poor food, ordered fish and chips… batter was very oily and fish was tiny and no taste whatsoever , Hubbie ordered chicken burger… bland served with frozen AAAchips, , never a gastric pub in a million years. Sorry will never go back

Food was nice but stop serving 8.30pm. Staff were friendly and place was clean and situated on the sea front. There is seating outside for a drink in the sun.

Slow service, lukewarm good and frosty reception when I reported my food being cold. Once reheated and brought back food was nice but overall not what I would expect from somewhere charging those prices
